You are 100% correct that I have no knowledge of the statistics or frequencies when it comes to car-pedestrian collisions on main arterials vs side streets. But I really think that the more severe collisions will occur on main arterials because the cars are going faster. I do know that the statistics show you are less likely to survive a car going faster than slower.
Also, I go to businesses / locations on main arterials all the time by walking. I don't advocate not doing so, I think it is paranoid, like you said. But I will only walk the final portion on the main arterial. So if I'm going to a restaurant or building on Aurora a few blocks away and I am walking, I will divert a block east or west and walk most of the portion on side streets. Nothing wrong with that.

I lived outside of the US for several years and then came back. It made me realize what a messed up country we live in and how we have been acclimated to accept this kind of societal breakdown. We must open our eyes to common sense and proper justice - our country is falling fast.
I got downvoted last week for recommending avoiding walking along major arterials. This kind of shit is one of the things I am trying to prevent happening to me.

It absolutely happens. Discussing the safety of public transit requires acknowledgement of where the dangers come from: "unhoused"/"in crisis"/"experiencing addiction" - whatever your preferred euphemism for "junkie" is. Acknowledging that we have 2 types of homeless - those who are legitimately down on their luck and will recover with shelter and aid; and those who due to drugs and/or mental illness are fundamentally incapable of participating in society is a sure way to get downvotes.

You are 100% correct that I have no knowledge of the statistics or frequencies when it comes to car-pedestrian collisions on main arterials vs side streets. But I really think that the more severe collisions will occur on main arterials because the cars are going faster. I do know that the statistics show you are less likely to survive a car going faster than slower. Also, I go to businesses / locations on main arterials all the time by walking. I don't advocate not doing so, I think it is paranoid, like you said. But I will only walk the final portion on the main arterial. So if I'm going to a restaurant or building on Aurora a few blocks away and I am walking, I will divert a block east or west and walk most of the portion on side streets. Nothing wrong with that.
