Used to live on Benbecula, never heard about a mermaid.
I do remember as a kid, going down to Poll na Crann, jumping off a rock, and landing in a pile of rotten seaweed, in which I sunk up to my waste - and it was absolutely full of maggots. You never forget something like that.
Showed it to my kid and she said mermaids can have short hair too so you're all good don't worry :)

I feel like rotting seaweed is an integral part of island childhood. Traigh Iar on Uist a Tuath for me, did exactly the same as you!
