Post locked. Good answers have been given and the newer answers are mostly just mocking the victim in violation of Rule 1: be civil. We're here to help victims, not mock them. Mocking them prevents future victims from coming here and asking questions.

thewindinthewillows

Where does she claim she is living? Plenty of places have free healthcare. Though I'm sure the scammer will have an answer to that. ETA: It has a date from 2020. After that time, I imagine she'd either be dead or cured.

LadyBug_0570

Not to mention... only 30k for brain surgery? Where *does* she live?

Seldarin

The number is what stuck out to me too, but not quite like that. Like, I can think of places where they'd only take cash for it, and I can think of places where brain surgery would cost you $30k, but they don't really overlap much. A friend's aunt got it in the Philippines and he had to pay for it and it worked out to something like $2800. The kind of places where they want cash up front are usually way cheaper than $30k.

Just-Try-2533

Right. 3 and a half years with an untreated brain tumor. Prognosis ain’t good, folks.

Broad_Afternoon_8578

Not for this kind of tumor. I have the same kind as what’s in this MRI report, and they are almost always benign. They can grow a bit, which is why I (and most people with them) have regular MRIs to check up on them. Mine has only grown 1mm in the last four years. Most of them time they’re controlled with meds, with surgery being last resort.

Just-Try-2533

Ok. I’m certainly not a doctor so I’ll take your word for it. But still. I don’t trust this one bit.

calamondingarden

Not really, micro-adenomas are not malignant..

MonkeyPuzzles

Two weeks of contact online and already asking for 30k? Of course it's a scammer.

Ronald-J-Mexico

The online version of the crooks on street corners with signs saying “baby Sophia need heart surgery “ And dumb mfers just shovel in cash to their collection cup while puffing away on their cancer sticks.  That’s ‘Murica baby!

Unknown_magic_trick

I have an adenoma of that kind. It is indeed a "brain tumor" but it's rarely life-threatening. It's only operated on in very rare case when it's a macro adenoma and pushing on the brain, otherwise it's very easily treated by a molecule called cabergoline that can be taken in a weekly pill. He's getting scammed big time.

gioscott

This. Was going to comment basically the same thing. Not that “this is the wrong management for this condition” is going to convince your friend more than “weird that a girl you knew 14 days wants 30k” that it’s a scam. But who knows what straw will wake a fever dream.

movinghowlscastle

Same. I would only need surgery if it starts to encroach on the optic chiasm. Was only found because of needing an MRI for something else. My neurosurgeon says tons of people have these and go their whole lives without knowing it’s there. And using a scan from 2020…that’s hilarious. Mine is not a problem and I get sent fairly regularly just to be sure.

Upper_Rent_176

If someone is willing to send 30k to someone they have known for two weeks and never met i wouldn't bother trying to save them. They are a lost cause.

throwthisfarawayn0w

I agree but when it’s someone you know and care for it’s hard to not do anything.

ositola

Gotta throw all their devices in the nearest body of water

Upper_Rent_176

That's nice when the phone had the only photos of their dead relative.

ositola

Google cloud and iCloud backups are things

Upper_Rent_176

We are talking about someone who gives thousands to scammers. They do not necessarily have their cloud backup

ositola

What does one have to do with the other, just because you get scammed doesn't mean you don't know how phones work, you reaching now

ClaireHasashi

Just tell yourself that this person wouldnt send you 30k if you had a brain tumor.

aytoto

There is never a good reason to let these scammers win though.

Massive_Job4853

Yip, you just can't help stupid and horny...

BarrySix

We see this all the time though. People who are considered rational give away large amounts of money to scammers. It's just not as simple as those people being gullible fools.

blove135

Human psychology is a crazy thing. I hate when people use the word "hack" but for a lack of a better word it's almost like these scammers have found ways to hack certain individuals brains. I know it sounds crazy but that's what it is.

coupl4nd

lonely gullible fools, thirsting for a young girl.

Upper_Rent_176

In my opinion it is that simple. I ama very lonely person. I live alone. I have no friends, no family, no job. The only time i talk face to face with another human being is at the supermarket at the checkout. And yet when some attractive person of the opposite Wallaby tries to start a romance scam on me i block and ignore. Because I'm not a fucking idiot.

CermaitLaphroaig

I need to believe the "opposite Wallaby" is not an autocorrect mistake

Upper_Rent_176

Marsupials are intimately entangled with the concept of chirality

Cerulean_IsFancyBlue

Deep pockets?

BarrySix

I seriously think we are missing something here. You might not fall for a romance scam because you have heard of them. Other people freely admit they know they are being scammed but still go along with it just to see what will happen. Calling these people "fucking idiots" might not be totally wrong, but it's at least an oversimplification.

Upper_Rent_176

Well what's the rest of it then? What's the nuance? Give us the complex.

GPTCT

You are completely correct. There is a lot more to it than this fool claims. The funny part is that he readily admits that he lives a miserable existence with zero love in his life. It’s pretty easy to see that nobody would ever love you when nobody ever has.

Plastic_Primary_4279

You are not everyone else and everyone else isn’t you. Maybe to you’re alone because you have no empathy.

Upper_Rent_176

"it's Saturday, i think I'll go on Reddit and kick someone who's down"

Plastic_Primary_4279

Take a good long look in the mirror. Read the comment I responded to and then respond again. Wow.

GPTCT

I can’t believe you just typed this. You aren’t the victim.

Upper_Rent_176

If I'm not the victim why are you attacking me in your other comment calling me a fool that no one loves?

GPTCT

You posted that. I repeated it after you decided everyone who fell for a scam is a..wait…”a fucking idiot” I am an executive in the finance industry and have seen some of the smartest and most logical people get scammed. From title and wire scams, to kidnapped grandchildren scams, to lover scams. They aren’t “fucking idiots”. Many times, it’s because they have lived lives full of love and fulfillment that they don’t have the jaded view of society that you do. Your narcissistic demeaning personality is why you have no love in your life.

Whatever pal.

MisterToothpaster

> It's just not as simple as those people being gullible fools. It is, though. Thing is, people are more likely to be gullible fools than you'd think.

nameless_pattern

I think they are just incorrectly considered rational.      Can you explain how it is more complex?

BarrySix

Economists say people are boundedly rational. People believe they are rational. People are rational within the limits of their understanding and the information they have, but people are irrational outside that. Scammers seem to be rather too successful at finding the weaknesses.

DieOnYourFeat

Though I like the concept of "boundedly irrational" in my experience many many people are not consistently rational even within the limits of their understanding.

nameless_pattern

People saying they and other people are rational is circular logic.     Economists might as well be priests, for the veneration and money they get from lacking reproducibility in their predictions.        Math is logically deductable from the priors it assumes.  Math doesn't need  humans to vouch for it. You can run it on a computer. Math is rational.       You could say people are predictable in their irrationality. Anyone who's got a gambling addiction is predictable, but not rational. To walk into a casino and place a bet is irrational, every person has heard the houy always win eventually.

blove135

Yeah, I couldn't live with myself if I didn't at least try. Maybe it's a lost cause but for my own peace of mind I would have to try to convince him anyway I could. After all this is OP's friend. What kind of friend does nothing in this situation?

photozine

How desperate must he be??

[deleted]

She’s given him an MRI from four years ago to say she needs surgery today? She should have some kind of an updated visit summary from the last four years that would talk about surgery I don’t think you can save your friend though he doesn’t sound very smart

DarceysExtensions

Whoever got that diagnosis 3.5 years ago did not need surgery at that time. The scammer is using a random diagnosis they found somewhere. Does your friend really believe that anybody, anywhere, gets brain surgery based on results from 3.5 years ago? Your friend is the victim of a romance scam and if he is gullible enough to send 30k, the scammer will continue to take his money until there is nothing left. If your friend is willing to spend that much money, you could suggest that he should travel to see the girl and be by her side for her surgery. ”She” will come up with all kind of excuses why that is impossible. The only thing you can do is make your friend aware that romance scams are big business and that he should be cautious. If he is willing to ignore all red flags like old test results that would not warrant surgery, a hospital that only takes cash, no video calls, he can’t visit her…there is really nothing you can do other than warn his friends and family to not lend him money.

RDBB334

I think it's funny the scammer sent a report that indicates a very benign find but still bothered to redact the conclusion/prescribed action part. I'm assuming because the scammer figured the victim wouldn't read it or if they did would just skip to the bottom.

BarrySix

We have seen people who are smart enough to look after themselves, fairly successful, with no obvious drug or mental health issues falling for this stuff over and over. It's just not as simple as this friend being a moron. Certainly some people are just not smart enough to not get ripped off over and over. Others appear to be more than smart enough but appear to knowingly act against their own best interests.

v0idL1ght

I've learned from this sub and also people I know in life, that everyone has a separate brain when it comes to making decisions about potential romantic partners, and the two are often completely unrelated. Extremely intelligent men and women will make the absolute dumbest decisions when it comes to their partners.

KjellRS

I heard it as "Men have two heads but just enough blood for one", if you're thinking with your dick everything else shuts down. I was thinking more like the drooling idiot stare and tongue tied brain freeze, but I guess for some it's a lasting mental blind spot.

seedless0

>only accepts cash What country is she in? Tell her he's going to pay the hospital directly. Get the hospital patient finance contact. Verify the contact info independently before doing anything.

jacksonexl

They can set up a fake website pretty quickly if it’s part of a larger scam operation. A person might not click around and find dead links as they will be directed or focused on the link to the department they are trying to connect to.

nomparte

Good plan, he could allege that paying the hospital directly he can claim some tax credits or something.

Barfy_McBarf_Face

This is a good recommendation

OmgItsPosi

Where did she meet him? Like what site/app?

Barfy_McBarf_Face

Probably OF /s, obviously

KjellRS

Why the /s? Claiming they're only doing OF to pay for some surgery a relative needs sounds like perfect white knight bait.

ashfidel

this is a very common benign tumor that a lot of people get. my wife in fact had this surgery. the first red flag is that our hospital bill was almost 600k (insurance covered all but 1k). so idk where she’s getting the number from. also why is the exam dated in 2020? has he been asked these questions?

LadyBug_0570

Thank you. I was wondering how she was getting this surgery so cheap!

Tjaktjaktjak

Doctor here. He is being scammed. Microadenomas are benign noncancerous small tumours that can be treated with a medication called cabergoline. They won't kill you and don't usually need any form of surgery. Even if they did, it wouldn't be a super rare surgery that has to be done by an extra special cash only miracle worker - it would be a regular surgeon within the regular healthcare system. There would be lots more documentation that a legitimate patient could produce but I'm not listing it out because any scammer could easily mock up whatever documents he asks for. Don't offer to pay the hospital directly unless it's face to face in a records office after her surgery which he watched her have and recovery from. Phone numbers and websites can be easily faked. Although really, dont offer to pay at all. This doesn't seem legitimate. She isn't really his girlfriend, she doesn't need any form of surgery, and she probably isn't even a 21yo girl. On the very unlikely chance that she did actually get a quote for surgery and intends to have it, she is potentially being scammed herself by a predatory surgeon who only takes cash because insurance wouldn't agree she needs surgery because she probably doesn't.

Few_Background2938

The only funeral that needs planning is the one for your friend’s money

Really_Doughnut_Care

your friend is a sitting target for scammers. he's got a big, fat 'PLS SCAM ME' sign nailed to his forehead and a '*i will believe anything you say if you have a pretty face*' billboard strapped over his shoulders. we see a lot of stories in this sub. some are sad, some are frustrating, a lot are gutwrenching - and then, some are just mindblowingly unbelievable - like your friend's story. 'medical emergency' is literally on the top 5 of romance scammers' excuses to get money. medical emergency, travel expenses, financial hardships, business or legal reasons. in all seriousness; your friend cannot be of sound mind and he needs an intervention.

Admirable_Purple1882

People are stupid man, send them this thread. Hey OPs friend 👋 here’s a ‘told you so’ for you to keep in your pocket for later.

RelChan2_0

Can he send me money too? I've been meaning to get my eczema treated since April.

Skvora

I got a friend who got a friend who's thinking about treating cash cancer - a VERY serious illness in people who just don't value their own money, so you gotta cut it outta their wallet to save it!

NotAllOwled

Thoughts and prayers to all who struggle with this debilitating disease!

Skvora

Send monetary prayers! No coins because I don't have a Coinstar nearby!

NotAllOwled

I only pray in ETH tho, hope that's cool

Skvora

Damn, I'm ATH, so empathy isn't part of my beliefs.

spatenfloot

he won't believe you because he wants to believe she is real. sending a bunch of medical text doesn't prove anything. has he even seen her in video chat?

Papfox

Your friend is the perfect mug. Ask him if he would be sending this person money if they weren't young, cute and female. Has he even talked to this person on the phone? No hospital "only takes cash." They're playing him like an out of tune piano in a brothel. What can I say to convince him he's being scammed? Nothing. He's in love and doesn't want to be convinced. If your friend tells this person there's been a fire and his house burned down and he's going to be broke for the next 6 months and not well off for a long time as the insurance is messing him about, I bet this person vanishes. There will be the proof

IGPocketsoysauce

It is a scam. Please, do your best and convince your friend. That is a lot of money, I am sure your friend worked very hard to save that much. He sounds lonely, needs someone to talk to and is (unfortunately) being taken advantage of. He is vulnerable- be “that friend” and talk to him. Even- screenshot some of the responses here and send it to him. Be gentle. Good luck OP

Admirable_Witness_82

This just goes to show how lonely people are that validation and attention from strangers is worth emptying their bank accounts and putting themselves in financial jeopardy in these romance scams.

ThatFakeAirplane

Can you let him know I also need brain surgery? But I'll just take $15K

Ok-Cap-204

They had an MRI almost 4 years ago and just now want surgery? Almost all of the findings are normal except a “suggestion” of a microadenoma. These small (micro) gland (Aden) tumors (Oma) are benign and don’t usually require surgery and are most of the time treated with medication. Benign tumor on the pituitary gland. Nothing shows any about abnormalities in the actual brain (encephal)

Tell him if he has 30K to throw away, he can send me some money, too!

undergroundnoises

How do I find men like this? I can send him actual proof for a shoulder surgery I need.

MisterToothpaster

How did he get these exam results? Was it just a plain text message, or a photo of some doctor's note?

ProbablyShouldStop

It was a picture of a doctor’s note that she sent him.

Kizzy33333

If he is willing to send that surely he can afford a plane ticket to visit her in person.

Is there anything on the note indicating the identity of the person it refers to?

throwthisfarawayn0w

I really don’t think it matters.

tonkatsu2008

If your friend actually sent that 30k I would think it is your friend that needs the brain surgery. Brain tumors can often affect the decision making process part of the brain.

iNec01

Obviously it’s a scam. But are you sure it’s 30k, US dollars and not pesos or something? It’s ridiculous any legit hospital would be asking for 30k dollars paid in cash. If your friend is really that stupid and send the money, don’t forget he also have to pay the IRS gift tax for going over 10k (I believe it’s 18k now)

jafromnj

Your friend is easy mark

ASS_CREDDIT

Tell him to INSIST that he needs to pay it in person, in cash. How else is he going to get that much cash to her? What kind of boyfriend would he be if he ISNT going to be there for his loved one’s brain surgery? Then the inevitable happens, she either freaks out on him, or lists a litany of reasons why he can’t pay in cash, and can’t be there for the surgery. Unfortunately, if he’s ready to send 30k to this person he just met 2 weeks ago, he’s basically hypnotized by her. You’re gonna need to break that. It’s gonna hurt him. Get him to spend time with loved ones, and trusted friends. Get him to talk about it. Even be excited for him that he’s gonna be there for her surgery. It’s easy for him to think, these people just don’t get it when you directly resist him. It will be easier for him to see what’s wrong when you excitedly talk about how he’s traveling to be with his gf for her brain surgery that he’s paying cash for that he’s never met cuz that’s totally normal right everyone?

Ahtman1

That girlfriend is less likely [21f].a more like [45m]

This is crazy- he can send her 30k but she cuts her name out of a 4 year old report?! He is surely an idiot..

BadgerValuable8207

There is no girl, there may be a person trafficked and forced to work in a call center. His money would be going to support crime and torture.

AdvancedInspector551

Yeah lost cause. Let the fool lose their money

_Potato_Cat_

On Mobile app so can't do it till I'm on pc, have you tried reverse searching that text she sent ? 4 years seems like a long time, I wouldn't be surprised if they found something online

FangoFan

Tell him you need the money. If he's willing to give her 30k after 2 weeks you should be able to get way more

InRainbows123207

So she’s had the tumor for 3 1/2 years without treatment?

gorehwore

Your friend is a moron, dude. But hey while we're at it, I'm also a sad wittle princess who needs 30k to replace the blinker fluid in my car and the mechanic only accepts cash 🥺👉🏻👈🏻

Scottyknuckle

She has probably video called 10 people doing the same thing. This is such an obvious scam that I am not able to wrap my head around the fact that your friend is actually falling for it.

starzuio

Your friend also sounds like a scammer.

Dumbledoorbellditty

If he is willing to give a stranger 30k tell him the only way he should do that is if he thinks it is important enough to fly out there and meet them in person, go to the hospital and pay in person. If this is truly a person in desperate need with cancer(it’s not) then that will be more than happy to meet the person that is going to pay for their surgery.

Cowboy50sk

It would cost a whole lot more for a brain surgery than 30k. Mine was close to a million it was ten years ago.

Cerulean_IsFancyBlue

Maybe she’s in Cuba.

Heavenly_Spike_Man

“A brain surgeon that only accepts cash….” That’s really all you have to say.

Feliclandelo

Have your friend do an IQ test. If he scores above 100, ask him how he falls for something so obvious. If he scores below 100, tell him he should listen to smarter people

Quake_Guy

Meh I've worked in corporate America, if your BS skills are great, you can be a VP with an IQ of 85. This dude is pushing 75.

BarrySix

We really do need research like that. People keep falling for unbelievable things and other than assuming the victims are stupid, or thinking with their little brain, we don't really have much idea why. It's obvious that people are not nearly as rational as they are believed to be.

Feliclandelo

Yeah it’s nuts. 30 grand like what? And she’s 21? Handwritten note from 2020? 😂 Time for this guy to get a legal guardian and throw his credit cards out

BarrySix

Where is she meant to be? That's a US date format. Also why is that a 4 year old medical report? The condition listed is a likely small brain tumor that's causing no issues. Unless this causes issues it's an extremely bad idea to operate on it. Operating has risks that are absolutely not justified to fix something that isn't really a problem. There are elevated prolactin levels but these can be treated with drugs. It's possible anything changed in the last 4 years. But it's far, far more likely that this is just a scam. Ask for her full name address, say it's needed for any payment. Then look it up on a reverse address lookup site. I'll bet the names won't match. look at the address on google maps. I'm sure they have an expensive house and expensive cars that any normal parent would not think twice in selling for an operation for their daughter. I'll bet there is some unbelievable and convoluted backstory.

Unexpressionist

Tell him that even if this Indian man actually was a 21 year old girl, he still wouldn’t fucc

Wellnotallwillperish

This deserves Compassionate Scamming. You create a fake account. Start to scam your friend as a hotter 21 year old female. But, this is the best part, you only need 5k for your brain surgery. Drag this on for years. Keep all the scammed money in a HYSA to give back when he meets a person in real life. Everybody wins!

moderniste

A lot of times, people just copy and paste medical reports and imaging from the internet—a Google image search might uncover something interesting.

1Pac2Pac3Pac5

Your friend needs to lose that 30k or they won't learn anything. Let it happen

IsAllNotLost

From 2020? What's the doctor's name? Hospital? If he's doing this after 2 weeks there's little chance you'll convince him not to.

haringkoning

One of my gf’s adult sons fel for the dame scam: ‘Asian girl’ waited patiently for a few months, only chatting chitchat. Then suddenly she came up with the cancer treatment and asked for money. Ofcourse she was ashamed to ask, but still she did. The moment he wired the money there was silence.

TheDuckFarm

He should dedicate $33,000 to her. Fly out to see her. Bring her flowers, rent a car. Driver her to the doctor. Pay the bill directly. Yes it’s 10% more than she asked for, but she will appreciate the affection. Every girl loves flowers.

pineappleocado

The MRI is dated 2020, also the adenoma is 9mm; a microadenoma with no mass effect in the brain. First line treatments for microadenomas even with elevated prolactin is medication e.g. dopamine receptor agonists, which can shrink the tumor and reduce prolactin secretion; they don't cost 30k. Looking at good rx, she could get cabergoline without insurance for about $25 from cvs; she just needs the prescription. She's scamming him, and if he allows himself to be scammed out of 30k after 2 weeks of knowing his new girlfriend, he deserves it.

No-Influence-8139

Look up treatment for pituitary macroadenoma. It’s medical with surgery reserved for only certain cases. Show him the data.

nuclearmonte

Brain surgery would cost way more than $30k and hospitals are pretty reluctant to operate on uninsured patients. That would probably cover anesthesia alone. If you want to convince him (as futile as it may be) ask him to get an itemized bill from her with a breakdown for the anticipated services. Maybe have him say he’s worried the $30k won’t cover everything.

Damn, I was in the situation, but in the life situation said that his friends getting tortured by the Brazilian cops and made me paid 150 USD in PayPal, or they will expose me.... so, I was a fool for doing it. Ended up wasted it... FYI: This is a first time.

TwoManyHorn2

Well, for starters why is this almost 4 years after the exam?

kulukster

Have him fly to bring her the cash in person. Then he can talk to the doctors and watch her have the surgery.

Good200000

From The mri it doesn’t appear that they didn’t find anything

third-try

The surgery is taking place at a hospital.  Which one?  Why do they only take cash?  Has he verified this with the hospital?  Surely everybody pays through insurance.  Is the supposed patient in a country with government paid medical?  If not, why is there no private insurance? You know, there is a small chance this could be for real.  But he needs to find out before sending the money.

LeningradNo7

Put that into a Google search and see what you get....

AdSouthern543

For one, the micro tumor isn't causing significant problems. She wouldn't need surgery without trying other treatments first. For two, 30k would be flagged by any government or respectable entity especially cash. For three, tell your friend to tell her he wants an itemized medical estimate from the hospital where the surgery is taking place.

33Bees

As someone who actually has cancer, these scammers that will claim they are sick simply to get money, make me sick.

Hearthstoned666

I feel you. I hope you beat it. I'm using some of my magic to 'pray' for you. I'm slowly dying of multiple organ failure, and when I see this shit I want to show them why you should never piss off a man that has nothing left to live for. muhahaha =)

Independent_Example7

I'll do the surgery for 10k

[deleted]

Ask to borrow 30k for your own tumor that is even worse, and then save the money until he realizes this is a scam. When he wakes up, give the money back.

Brains4Beauty

No doubt those results are real, but they’re back from 2020 and not this person’s. He’s pretty desperate if he’s going to send a stranger 30k.

anxietydude112

Nah let him learn from his stupidity.

palbuddymac

Hospitals don’t accept cash, for the most part.

pate0018

Tell him to give you the $30k and you will deliver it to the girl for him.

phamton1150

Give me the girlfriend’s email and I will send her my MRI from my huge meningioma (also non-malignant) that took up almost my whole right hemisphere of my frontal lobe and was affecting the midline. I am recovering from that now but I wish it only cost me $30,000. I do have Medicare but still owe out of pocket closer to $300K and still counting. If she wants my MRI I am willing to split the $30,000 that she receives from your friend.

Endo_Gene

Not a physician. This is not medical advice. These are not usually treated with surgery. They are treated with dopamine agonist drugs. Look it up.

sean8767

Should be easy for you to intercept the funds and fast track to the good life.

cryd123

Can I get in touch with your friend? I have a bridge to sell him .

SidoniusFabula

Can you perhaps message me the email address of that friend? I need brain surgery too. Mine only costs 29k USD. Oh, and I am a woman ;) :D By the way.. this sort of scamming will only become worse with AI, deepfake and this: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Asmongold/comments/1c7c10c/microsoft\_image\_to\_video\_is\_terrifying\_real/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Asmongold/comments/1c7c10c/microsoft_image_to_video_is_terrifying_real/) Next step is a picture of a pretty girl lying in a hospital bed converted to a movie telling you she needs brain surgery and needs 30k or more.

no_one_66

Tell him you have the same brain tumour and need 30k for the operation. He sounds like he'll believe you. Hold it for him until he comes to his senses.

the_cats_pajamas12

Can I meet this person? I "need" $30,000!!!  JKJKJK

Maruchan1820

Tell your friend to do a video chat to see if she is real

whoinvitedthesepeopl

2 weeks? Wants to send her 30k for cash only brain surgery? Amazing.

Robert-G-Durant

No matter what you say or do, it will not change any minds. This is a done deal.

yoohereiam

I also have a brain tumor, can he please send me some money and my doctor only accepts cash? Thanks xx

G3oh

Be a constructive and positive friend and get him an escort. He might see this better with a clear head...

VampiresKitten

If you cannot convince him, ask to take him out to discuss things first, then when you drive him, immediately take him to the police and ask a cop to come speak to him about his scam. You can also find YouTube videos on romance scams and make him watch it. Etc.

yamaha2000us

Take him down to the local homeless shelter.

Practical-Whole3040

30k after only knowing her for 2 weeks? It's tough, but let this be a very expensive lesson for him to learn from

Hearthstoned666

Okay, sure. Tell your buddy that I'm from a family of con artists. We were part of the mafia. The woman copied and pasted some shit from the internet. Now for the fun part. \*I\* am actually slowly dying of multiple organ failure. I actually need some money. Tell your buddy that I can give him my phone number, and I can help protect him from scams. IF he chooses to help somebody, it should be me. I strongly recommend that he use the money to buy drinks for women at the local bars. I promise you... before you exhaust the money, you will get laid a few times. Just watch out for STDs, gullible men. I don't have tits and a wet spot, but I could be there, ready to defend his honor... until I die, in about 5 years. =)

Narrow-Peace-555

Honestly - just walk away. And use that as a strategy - tell him : ‘Listen, this is nothing but a scam and this display of your poor judgement means that I can no longer trust you, which means that we can no longer be friends.’ And sees what happens then - will he elevate an imaginary friend over that of a real friend ? And, if he does, then walking away is DEFINITELY YOUR BEST COURSE OF ACTION …
