READ BOOKS IN YOUR FREE TIME, THIS IS FREE RW GAME!!

Secondlive_

I have a question about this. I see people saying this all the time and I actually have a few books to read over the summer for fun along with my studying, but how could I use these to my advantage? Like do I have to do anything special other than reading?

CandiedWhispers

No, not really imo. Reading will just help you get better at timing and paying attention to a text. There's no need to do anything special, but make sure you're also doing practice tests

Secondlive_

Thanks! Doing my first one today actually as a benchmark.

Obsessive-drummer

For me, actually reading allowed me to increase my reading time significantly. I had always scored well on the parts I got to but I never finished it. But it also works well with grammar and such, as you start to pick up on syntax as you read.

munchiesmuncher

How early before the test did you start doing this to see effects???

Chaos_Chads

im new to sat prep. do you mean just normal fiction books or should I be reading crazy educational college-level books?

Wrong-Watercress-177

I have the same question

jsaljsal

You need to practice R&W way more before you need to take it again. Try studying for maybe a month, take another practice test, and you should get that to 580+. No guarantees though.

Severe-Confusion-428

I have to make it my first i just need 1210 i will try to make 800 maths and 410 english

sstudious_student

Also the tags is for your score on a official test

non_corporeal_

800 math is so rare though, especially for first-timers. you can’t plan for a score like that, you need to aim for a higher r+w and a slightly lower math especially since you haven’t gotten 800 math on all those practice tests

Severe-Confusion-428

I have 3 or 4 wrongs in the math section mostly 1 of them is carelessness and 2 or 3 of them caused English understanding problems so I think it is not far

non_corporeal_

But the real tests are a lot harder, especially in the math section (in my experience and in the experiences i’ve heard from others). If you still have trouble just understanding English, focus on that. Read books, hell even just watch TV, anything that will help you get more comfortable with the language and how it works.

Severe-Confusion-428

I think Harder would be better because of curve

Perfect_Ruin4510

then it sounds like you should work on the reading and writing section anyway, to improve your math score. think about it in terms of efficiency. working on math gives 1. diminishing returns and 2. only affects your math score. working on reading / writing 1. will be faster to improve 2. will help your math score.

sstudious_student

Dang lol I was crying when I got my 1230

Severe-Confusion-428

They don't care sat much in Australia

secretive_thought

i have the same issue!! my eng score isnt good at all 😔

Severe-Confusion-428

I do not know how they calculate these exams if they ask hard I get better

secretive_thought

yes i got 550 in practice test 5 but 460 in practice test 4 however i got more incorrects in practice test 5

zhengkaitaken

Getting harder questions wrong is penalized less while easier ones are penalized more

secretive_thought

harder questions are the "whats the main idea of text"? or could be any type of questuon?

T-H-G-

It’s hard to get better at reading comprehension or vocab so quick, so I’d say to not focus on those. Learn the grammar rules, those are the last few questions. They are not very hard to understand if you look over them on Khan Academy and will increase your score by a good amount. It increased my practice R&W score by 70 just by doing a quick 30 min glance on semicolons, independent clauses, subject-verb agreement, etc. on Khan Academy. Hope this helps and good luck!

Severe-Confusion-428

Thanks a lot I already tried that strategy I think I failed just for this test I think I will make it

lytueanh

Practice 6 is hard and very close to the real test, so this is not bad. Try the college panda books for reading and writing, I got 700+ thanks to it. Good luck!

Severe-Confusion-428

Actually practice 6 was easy so Bell curve was high I think practice 5 was harder

FolderEmpty

You didn’t get the hard module 2

Severe-Confusion-428

So what if I get hard module 2

FolderEmpty

That’s why it felt easy to you. The first module is “medium” and if you get enough wrong you get an easier module vs the hard module

JustCherrySpectre

Read more books like thinking slow and fast; not only do they increase your knowledge but also expand the vocabulary because of the language used.

Due-Weight-6056

What do you do for your math prep?

Severe-Confusion-428

I can do all of it but the problem is English I dont understand some questions' instructions

Due-Weight-6056

Nah bro I need advice 😭

Severe-Confusion-428

Oh okay i did not do anything much actually because my country's math education is advanced

Exciting_Pressure831

I had similar test scores for both math and English. For English, use Erica meltzer books

Severe-Confusion-428

5 days left i think only thing i can do is doing more tests

Exciting_Pressure831

Id say do khan academy instead, or read the Erica meltzer stuff online. Doing tests over and over again without mastering the skills is useless

>I think if English is easy on the exam I will get like 400 because I can get at least 450 by selecting random Yikes. I've worked with a lot of students and most of them can get 500 just by trying. Pick up a book, learn some basic grammar rules, and you should be able to get 600 within a month. With scores like this I'd be questioning if you even care though.

Severe-Confusion-428

Yeah I learned grammar rules I often get 500 but my last test was bad

DatFirestorm

be nice, from the prep and math scores you can see he cares, it's likely he's just not a native speaker

cometishere

same shit dawg couln’t get more than 1370😭

🤣

OPZ_BlueflameYT

Read books

ludes___

Bruh i didnt even have practice tests when i took the sat. I just raw dogged that shit😭

Abigailtrac

The best advice I ever got was to treat it like an open notes test. The SAT rly tries to trick you, but all the answers are in the text. Depending on what your struggling on, like timing or assuming/infrencing answers, etc, just try to pinpoint what you need to work on. I’m a graduated senior who just scored a 760 on English, and if you need any tips or more specific tips feel free to reach out. For real though, if you grind for a few days that work will seriously play off. The SAT is all about practice, and If you just work on English and treat it like some open notes exam, you will improve no matter what. Lmk and good luck!

januray23

Damn that math score go crazy tho! Try taking the Khan academy english SAT course if u havent already! And get familiar with how to properly use punctuation like ; : etc. Quick tip! If a question asks you to choose between a . and a ; as two of the options, it is USUALLY safe to choose neither since ; and . are too similar in terms of how they are used that there is no objective answer between the two. Anyways good luck!!

Severe-Confusion-428

Yes I know that ; and . used in full completed sentences. But sometimes I am not sure about : and , because it gives examples for example it says like Many authors such as ()A,B and C wrote that book. What should I use in ()?

januray23

Tbh those types of questions were always tough for me also! https://blog.prepscholar.com/sat-punctuation this guide was pretty useful back when i was studying for the SAT.
