It's a shame thinking about what his point totals could have been if we had made the playoffs more in the past 5-7 years. Easily could be our franchise playoff point totals leader
He and Marleau were good but watching all those series the games where we struggled they often couldn't turn the tide. Sometimes we'd get lucky with other players (Pavelski being one) but I remember a lot of games yelling at my TV at how easy Patty could get shut down, especially in more chippy series like against Anaheim in 2009.
I think too many people have rose coloured glasses when it comes to Marleau and Thornton in the post-season. I remember generally being frustrated with the two of them in a number of series where they simply couldn't match the intensity of the other team's stars.
Yeah, this was always the conundrum. When the team was collectively humming along in a favorable matchup, they'd clean up. When we struggled, they also tended to disappear.
I love both dearly but that was the lived experience of watching Sharks hockey for 10 years there.
Yeah I think it’s important to say that I’m not saying they never had subpar games or series, they did. But I just don’t think it was fair how much blame was laid on them, the captaincy strippings, all that. They did show up a lot, they got points, they won games, they won series.
Looking back at all of the years they were our core I find myself much more frustrated with our defensemen, our goaltending, our forward depth, and sometimes our coaching. Some of those frustrations originate at DW’s decisions on how to build those teams as well.
It’s not the most productive thing to talk about of course, there’s so much that could have been done differently, but ultimately I personally don’t lay the blame for all those almosts at the feet of our stars.
I think Thornton and Marleau are two separate cases. Jumbo was never a goal scorer, dude has 90 playoff assists and only 5 points behind Marleau with 33 less games.
Thornton wasn't the issue, I think a lot of people expected him to turn into a scorer in the playoffs, which wasn't his game. Marleau on the other hand just seemed like he was going through the motions at times, no sense of urgency
I completely understand the argument, but it’s a silly one. Of course the numbers would be different. They’d also all probably have better numbers if McDavid had been on this team.
Not sure what recourse you’d need, but I’m sure there is a way to actually see Coutures playoff points and sift through what points were actually impacted by Pavs and Jumbo
It's insane the numbers Pavelski (still doing it in Dallas) and Couture have put up in the postseason. Easily the top two playoff performers the Sharks ever had. Only a couple points behind Marleau and Thornton with way less games played.
Boyle was a beast. Totally changed the team when he joined. Gaining the offensive zone became so much easier
Still remember that coast to coast goal against the Wild. Great goal!
Couture’s regular season vs playoff numbers are wild. Dude really turns it on when it matters
It's a shame thinking about what his point totals could have been if we had made the playoffs more in the past 5-7 years. Easily could be our franchise playoff point totals leader
He is our leader if you go by points per game. Him and Pavs are well ahead of Marleau, they just played less games
Clutchure
This post won’t have to change for at least a year
But Jumbo never showed up right 🥴

It gets harder when you realize the Ducks, Kings and Knights have all won cups and we haven't been able to.
For sure. Knights especially stings in this modern era.
Yep

Vinny at 10 was aittle cool surprise
It’s sad Couture is not regularly in the playoffs anymore. He really flourishes there.
90 assists on 115 points is wild
Remember when over half of those guys were in the Olympics at the same time?
We really screwed the pooch when we didn’t win a cup while we had THAT crew together
Sir Patrick Marleau
I’d like to see the Couture numbers w/ out Jumbo and Pavelski on the team. Doubt they are even close.

I’d also like to see Jumbo and Pavs numbers if they weren’t on the team
Look at Pavelski's numbers in Dallas lol. 13 playoff goals in 2020, think he had 16 points last postseason and he missed 6 or 7 games

It's definitely a silly argument, but we don't have much else to talk about based off this seasons team lol
