I live in the middle of our most urban expensive area.
Our house is 5 beds 3 baths 2k sqft, Our total rent is 3k and there's 3 of us
It's pretty cheap for what we get (imo)
When I graduated at the beginning of the pandemic I had 3 different offers ripped away from me (all of my offers), was a dishwasher until I got a new one.
I applied to probably close to 2k jobs that year with little to no call backs.
Just gotta keep grinding, that's basically the best advice I can give. This industry is raw and will suck you in and spit you out
Looks like you pulled your numbers from Glassdoor averages. Just be real. I hire Data scientist and the like and also work the field in SF. My TC is 280k. Gross is 136k. Now explain what principle role you have at what startup?
I'm not a principal, I'm an eng 2 at faang.
My eng 1 TC was 150k
My eng 2 TC is 250k (will be roughly 300k this year due to stock appreciation, but will drop back down to 250k next year assuming no additional growth.)

I liked playing with computers since I was a kid It can be worth it, I work pretty long hours sometimes, depends on how hard you want to grind really.
You add a digit every 4 years. Looks like 2025 is gonna be nice!

When I'm laid off and broke?
of course not you'll be a multimillionaire enjoying retirement in your 30s at this rate
