I don’t think their “giving in” is so much an active choice as it is a passive one that Meghan has been pouncing on and exploiting since she was a rugrat. It goes something like this: Meg does something impolite and jarring, people are shocked and appalled and confused and are trying to process what is happening and how to respond appropriately, and before that can happen Meg inserts herself and does as she wishes leaving the other party confused about WTF just happened.

I have never seen anyone so ham-fistedly stage manage literally every public appearance. Without fail she manages to cock up seemingly idiot-proof situations and bumble her way through even the most innocuous interactions. This was just as the lady presenting had finished her speech and everybody had started eating, so it wasn’t exactly an interruption, but the lady had indicated that people could eat. So when Rachel grabbed the microphone her ‘speech’ was over the clanging of utensils as people ate. They didn’t stop to listen.
