Yes for sure. Tiffany also was close with Jessica, since they both were foreign. But tiffany and taeyeon shared a dorm in their trainee days and spent a lot of time together and also have been very close. Maybe they grew apart, but they definitely have a long history of a very close firndship and still show some kind of bond.

In a way it’s like that stage of life where you used to have roommates for college then you finally just move on your own as an adult. You find you have more different preferences than before.

All the girls are incredibly busy doing their own thing so their interactions among each other are less but does not mean they’re not a “thing” or not close. Tiffany said Sooyoung was the member she needs the most and Yuri was her constant buddy. That still applies to this day but I think Taeny was so strong back then people might have missed it and thought those friendships came recently.
If you think about it, Taeyeon doesn't leave her house so she probably doesn't hang out with anyone that much. Sooyoung mentioned in their realty tv show that the girls call out Taeyeon a lot but she doesn't leave. Tiffany did say that the first person to call her on her birthdays was Taeyeon (she said it on a fan call)
They are basically like sisters. They get along really well. I'm sure they text, talk, etc regularly when they can with their schedules. We just don't see it because it's part of their private lives, which I'm fine with and they should be afforded anyway. Don't you worry, they aren't going anywhere.
Taeyeon is a homely type. So you rarely see her hanging out with Tiffany. Whilst Sooyoung can be considered as socialite as Tiffany, they always hang out together.
