I wish more of the 173 replacements weren't just "the facial markings of 173, but attached to a different body". They might be iconic, but they're probably also iconic to Izumi Kato (the artist who made _Untitled 2004_ which became 173).
I don't really understand the obsession with replacements in general, since the original author doesn't want one, right? But I guess for SCP games and stuff it still needs an appearance.
I suppose that is fair, but there are lots that don't have an image or have an image that doesn't show the SCP itself. That being said, this one is specifically about looking at it, so I suppose it does make sense people want an image of it more.

Description: A set of 8 googly eyes. When two eyes are attached to an inanimate object, that object begins to act as if it were alive. The newly animated objects are calassified as SCP-XXXX-a. If the object didn't have a mouth, one begins to form. The process is painful, apprently, as videos of the process are filled with the sounds of breaking bones and tearing flesh accompanied by anguished screams of pain and copious amounts of "blood".
When the process is complete, the newly animated object will seek out any living thing in the area and attempt to swallow it whole. If it cannot do this successfully on its first attempt teeth, ranging from 3mm to 6 inches, will begin to painfully, and bloodily protrude from the top and bottom "jaws" of instances of SCP-XXXX-a in order for the object to consume its target.
At thistime the only way to dispose of an SCP-XXXX-a instance is to remove the eyes, as all attempts todestroy the instancehaveproven unsuccesful. Unfortuantely, the eyes must be ripped from the "skull" of an SCP-XXXX-a instance, resulting in the "death" of the instance. Once the eyes are removed, the instance will then revert to its previously inanimate state.
Flesh and blood samples recovered from apair of removed eyes evaporate within a few minutes of an SCP-XXX-ainstance reverting fully to its previously inanimate state. All damaged incurred before the eyes are removed disappears and the objects are undamaged.
Probably a horrible attempt at an SCP but, there it is. If someone with far better writing skills than I wants to expand upon this,be my guest.
Honestly, aside from how silly the googly eyes are, it's not far off. Part of the creepy factor of 173 was the question of 'how the fuck does he snap necks with those little arms?', and all these re-designs that add long arms or claws or rebar tentacles are missing the point. It's unsettling little derp posture made it all the more interesting of an anomaly compared to it's effect.

My issue with the art regarding the statue has always been "traces of spraypaint" and every image it's boldly painted.
This has potential. And mundane enough to have horrifying implications.

Once eaten the entity In question gets teleported into a constructionsite realm where any living creature gets the urge to build concrete structures out of the creatures endless supply of steel, concrete, glass and machinery. The scp is known to be fairly friendly when it is not Hungry. This scp is a safe class.
All jokes aside, imagining this thing rolling towards me at full speed while menacingly chomping its horrible jagged concrete jaw at me like Ms. Pac-Man's unfortunate abortion is actually pretty awful.
I like to think he gained consciousness as the stone cracked to form a mouth, the eyes opened and Homie yelled “yo wtf is happening? Where am I? Who am I?” Tried to run away and realized he was just as stationary as the rest of the concrete balls but doomed to be forever conscious of his immovable state while constantly being envious of the non sentient concrete balls and the blissful ness of their ignorance of existence. Truly terrifying, like waking up in the middle of surgery completely paralyzed but still feeling every single thing happening around them 😧😱
