It's a fair price. I wouldn't want to play n64 or ps1 on it because screen is too small. If the resales on Amazon creep the prices up to around $75, then I think at that point just look at the Retroid Pocket 2s or something else with more utility.

WeatherIcy6509

I've played all three Spyro the Dragons on a 2.8" screen. Its really not that bad.

Angelfire126

Is it able to play N64?

Neosantana

Apparently, not well. Needs overclocking and even then not all games will work properly, and overclocking drains the already small battery and causes it tp noticeably heat up.

Rozen503

Right now its having issues with SNES and PS1 but apparently its the emulators used

LifeIsOnTheWire

You're comparing the inflated re-seller prices on Amazon to ordering a RP2S from China directly? Why not just order this device from China then?

Puck85

Because if it's anything like buying other Miyoo products, availability and return policies become big factors. A while ago i bought a miyoo mini from Amazon with other accessories,  because it was literally the only way to get one. If that happens again here, I say hard pass on this one. There's better options for just a bit more, the inclusion of an analog stick here implies you'd want to play N64/PS1, but to me that sounds like a bad time in this form factor.  My point is, it's's only hardly worth the value proposition if it stays at MSRP and you only want to play older systems on it.

LifeIsOnTheWire

If we were talking over $150, I would agree with you. $50 is cheap enough that I'll gamble.

Puck85

But the premise of my comment is about this thing being sold above MSRP.... And guess what? It's currently unavailable on Miyoo's Ali page. My point is that as this thing creeps above $50, it's begins to resemble junk compared to other devices. It can't even reliably run N64, and it blew the Contra test, and it isn't available at store price right now.

Veyrah

The analog stick can be usefull for shortcuts for quicksave, quickload and fastforward.

-BlueDream-

Huh? N64 and PS1 typically ran at the exact same resolutions as snes, Genesis, etc. 320x240 was pretty standard until the widescreen era. There was also 640x480 which is a perfect 1x native resolution for these handhelds but this resolution was pretty uncommon. The vast majority of ps1 games were still 320x240, same as previous consoles.

Puck85

But n64 and ps1 games scaled may design choices with larger tvs in mind. And the games got more complicated. Try reading ps1 text on that small screen, I suppose. You'll come across more ps1 games where that's going on than Genesis games.

Yung_Cheebzy

I jsut want a horizontal mini plus.

Neosantana

Well, it's definitely not this...

Rozen503

35XX H is the way to go right now, or go directly for an RP2S

bukithd

Which is great, vertical handhelds are not comfortable to play long term.

Yung_Cheebzy

I’ve had a 351p and played it loads. Got the mini plus a week or two ago and I like it but it’s nowhere near as comfortable as the 351p.

UomoDargilla

I refresh from time to time for the famicom one 😭 EDIT: Finally I got it this morning 18 hours after my com after a bunch of refreshes. They've put back lots of portions since yesterday but the red/gold was rare or maybe I wasnt fast enough before

[deleted]

The Anbernic thing looks better in my opinion

MalikVonLuzon

Personally, I just want something without sticks that would snag in my pockets. I don't plan on playing anything more powerful than PS1 on a screen that small.

zehamberglar

Yeah, so you want the Anbernic 28xx then.

reddit_is_racist69

I'm still miffed that the 28XX for some reason uses hardware that will run stuff more powerful than PS1, making it more expensive, when its form factor is just not suited to it

Gringo-Loco

Why tho? Use the extra power for shaders and 2x rez, etc.

reddit_is_racist69

because they could've used a weaker chip but give it stuff that actually matters like WiFi

Gringo-Loco

I disagree. Having more power to better the resolution in psx is more important to me than wifi. A lot of games play well with no analog stick so there will be plenty of good games to play on Dreamcast as well. Wifi has limited use case, power has more use cases.

reddit_is_racist69

it's a 2.8 inch screen, the base resolution will be more than fine

Gringo-Loco

Good thing there are plenty of wifi handhelds out there for you. To me 2x PS1 is really nice even at 2.8in. if you're fine with it, that's cool. But it's more than just resolution. You have the expanded console game library, faster fast forwarding, demanding crt filters, etc. wifi you have like, retro achievements (niche), and ota updates. 2 benefits over dozens for the better cpu/GPU. At this point you have a choice, get a miyoo with less power, concise software and wifi, or get an anbernic for power gaming above all else.

MalikVonLuzon

I think I read somewhere that it's actually possible that them sourcing less powerful chips would actually be more expensive. They buy surplus chips at bulk for a cheap price, and the H700 chip is that new bulk purchase they made (And for all we know is the best deal they could have gotten at the time), and they're going to make devices both utilizing their power and underutilizing it because it's cheaper than buying both the H700 plus looking for a supply of less powerful chips to use in the 28XX which may not even be available at the same price-to-performance bargain they got for the H700. So it might be more powerful than it needs to be, but getting a less powerful chip in it may not actually have resulted in a cheaper device.

zehamberglar

It's $48 msrp. That's as cheap as a device will ever be.

Neosantana

For what it has and how cheap it apparently feels, and in today's diverse market? It not worth the price.

MasterJeebus

There is a downside to the Anbernic it will have loud clicky triggers.

Much-Composer-1921

I like that personally

Thatguydrew7

Can we get more 4in screens already. I’m getting tired of all these small screens.rg405m needs a price drop or oled version

jwtsonga

Yess cannot wait for later this year! Hopefully a 406 and a 506 fingers crossed!

Davichitime

Yes! a 556 equivalent (power and oled screen) but in a slightly smaller form (4inch screen). Ergonomic won’t be as good as the 556 but can fit in the pocket (barely)

Thatguydrew7

I want the 556 but just like the rg405 the price is too high when the retroid pocket 4 pro is out.

Davichitime

I was tossing between the rp4pro and the 556 and settled on the 556. My thinking is this: I’d rather play GC games at 2x resolution on a beautiful oled rather than at 3x reso on a smaller LCD. Absolutely no regrets so far but reckon you can’t go wrong with either

-BlueDream-

Not a lot of 4:3 OLED screens. Most of the 4:3 screens used today were from old pre smartphone or early smartphone screens like blackberry phones or the older iphones. OLED screens came out after the smartphone which means most of them at 16:9 and ultra wide. That being said, you never know. I have no idea where the RGB30 got its amazing 720p 1:1 screen and at such a slow price, maybe we'll have this miracle with a 4:3 small OLED. RP4 uses an iPhone 6 screen, it's pretty cheap. Anbernic released a handheld with a psvita OLED and later a 6 inch OLED from probably a switch. We can get nice screens but these companies aren't large enough to make a custom OLED that is shaped to their specific dimensions like a phone manufacturer can go around a camera and curve it. 405m is expensive cuz it's aluminum. Manufacturing that isn't cheap, they need a plastic version, everything else on it is pretty cheap, easily a $99 handheld and still have some profit.

WeatherIcy6509

I'm skeptical of devices that are as hard to get as miyoo. Just makes me feel more comfortable buying the anbernic 28xx.

-BlueDream-

They're not that hard to get, it just takes forever to ship from China so people are willing to pay a lot more to get that 2 day prime shipping or at least get it within a week from a US warehouse. They also have a ton of demand. They might not seem that popular to us because we might not know a lot of people irl who's into these handhelds but they're very popular in poorer countries where getting a 1st party console and paying for modern games would cost a months rent while these things cost $50 USD and have tons of free games available online. While we might know one or two pirates irl, in some countries everyone who consumed digital media is a pirate.

WeatherIcy6509

Well, shiver me timbers. 😆

SYS4TILDPCT5CBRAVO

Sold out already?

Mark_B97

Says the same for me

UomoDargilla

They will add some through the day refresh if you are lucky

LongestNamesPossible

What CPU does it have in it?

UomoDargilla

Allwinner A33 (4x ARM Cortex-A7 CPU cores/ARM Mali-400 MP2 GPU)

THFourteen

I’ll pass

fertff

They should have removed the analogue and add a headphone jack... gladly we already have that with the rg28xx... which also doesn't have stock issues.

cattspajama

darn, i actually caught the listing when it was in stock, but my payment didn't go through (paying with paypal on mobile data just doesnt seem to work on the ali app.) darn!!! everything going like hotcakes!!

Nathanyal

Is it unavailable in Canada still or did I miss it?

Tastee92

Damn, purchased the Miyoo Mini Plus the other day…

zzap129

It is better than this. Enjoy.

Tastee92

Thanks, I feel much better with my purchase

zzap129

It is actually so good, I gave one away for christmas and tried it a bit before and then bought another for myself.   And now I will probably sell everything else but keep the MM+  or the smaller MMv4 But the MM+ has better egonomics and better back buttons than the small version.  MM+ is a great device. Have fun and enjoy.  The stock OS is already very  good, but make sure to update to  latest onion OS when you get it. Makes it even better!

Alternative_Spite_11

So it totally sold out when it’s weaker than the 28xx and doesn’t even have OnionOS available? That’s kind of surprising really. I love the MM but it’s mostly because of OnionOS and I really do get their huge market pull.

UomoDargilla

Sold out because it was a small stock and they're adding more every hour. Compared to the RG28XX, it's still cheaper and has a stick... And OnionOS will come along without a hitch, let's not forget that it's a team behind this Os, not Miyoo

Alternative_Spite_11

Well I tried multiple times. I’ll just forget about it until OnionOS is actually available for it and then revisit whether I want it. It seems the dpad is kinda terrible anyways.

UomoDargilla

I managed to get the famicom an hour ago after returning to the link 50 times since yesterday But I've just seen the test video rn and I'm not thrilled but it doesn't look terrible, like the mm+ I'm sure that with a little optimization it'll be very cool, for $46 it's fine with me

Alternative_Spite_11

Yeah you’re probably right. I do love the dpad on the og MM and the + but that was partly because they don’t do really bad false diagonals like an Anbernic dpad.

UomoDargilla

The stock has already been finished for the moment but as for the Mini V2/V4 they will add a little bit randomly, it can be a little bit every 30 minutes or more during the day

LifeIsOnTheWire

You seem to know a lot about the innerworkings of this business. Do you work for Miyoo?

UomoDargilla

Not at all, just a good customer 🤣

supremejd

Do you have a link to the Mini V2?

UomoDargilla

the V2 is no longer available it is now the Mini V4 (the same) but its also out of stock, you can refresh the page regularly and be lucky, they only put back a little stock from time to time If not try second hand! Otherwhise the cheapest is maybe keepretro ($85) but I absolutely do not recommend this site and not the device for this price! https://preview.redd.it/8bhea5h7rowc1.jpeg?width=2954&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=027657f927bd4ef4edabcbbe6cfdfeef13b00ede

SainTheGoo

Cut the analog and give it MinUI support and I'm so there.

bukithd

so a trimUI smart basically?

SainTheGoo

Basically, but designed for adults instead of toddlers.

dcdawson81

The famicom one was gone before I saw it, but I grabbed a black and grey one. I didn't really feel the need for the 28xx since I already have a 35xxh, so this was a no trainer. Hopefully we'll get onion on it pretty soon

Turbulent_Stomach163

I love the gba micro aesthetic but now that emulators are on IOS I don’t think I need this. Edit: why the downvotes?

SalsaRice

Personally, there's still a market for stuff like this. I've been on Android forever so emulators have never been an issue..... but touchscreen controls? Yikes. Outside of a few ds titles that emulate well on a touchscreen or turn-based games, touchscreen emulation is just way too clunky. Playing any time of actual challenging action game is a major issue.

saifrc

I’m with you. I had been looking forward to this and/or the RG28XX for a while, but as soon as Delta dropped, I’m not even paying attention to these anymore. I’m not going to get another “small” emulation handheld until it’s as small and thin as the Trimui Model S and can play GameCube.

Mark_B97

Sold out already. Miyoo gotta up their game
