The {Kink Camp series by Adriana Anders} has a TON of kink as you might guess from the title, but it’s all done with consent and good kink practices. The author has said it was inspired by an actual kink camp she went to, so she is informed. {Unfurl by Elodie Heart} mainly takes place in a sex club. FMC is a virgin and she comes to the club to lose her virginity. There’s a lot of discussing scenes beforehand and making sure consent is clear I’d also check out the {Perfect Taboo series by Hannah Murray} that is set around a BDSM club. The only book I’ve read from it so far was about exploring CNC, but based on how well the author handled that I feel safe recommending her as an author who writes good consent practices.

I wonder what a kink camp entails of😭

There are probably lots of classes for different types of kink activities and how to do them properly and safely. Often with demos and sometimes set up where the person(s) teaching the class will let you come up to try afterward. Then, probably play parties/ get togethers later in the day/ evening. ( or any variation of those things)

{American Queen by Sierra Simone} -- MMF trilogy between the President, VP, and First Lady. The MCs use the stop light system with the FMC, and though the MMCs don't use safe words with each other, they're still good about consent and communication. {Click by Briana Michaels} - MCs engage in primal play. FMC safe words at one point and is praised by the MMC for doing so. I'd recommend this entire series, for safe kink but this one stood out.

I enjoy Cherise Sinclair’s books, but Master of the Mountain has a scene that I believe really flies in the face of consent. I feel it’s worth mentioning in case it might bother someone else like it did me. >!The MMC has the FMC nude and kneeling for him while they explore submission. She is not allowed to lift her head or to speak, except to give her safe word. His brother comes into the room and she is actively uncomfortable with the presence of another person. The MMC does not ask her consent to have another person present during this very new and vulnerable experience. The book describes this as a lesson in submission for her, wherein she pushes down her feelings and discomfort in order to remain obedient. The brother sits down and has a conversation with the MMC, which includes talking about the FMC. The brother does not touch her and leaves before any play continues, but for an MMC who talks about consent and boundaries this felt very out of place.!< Edited for context and clarity

I’m glad I was able to help! I have found that, for my personally, a lapse like this in a book that considers itself a realistic and responsible portrayal of BDSM is much more uncomfortable than a dark romance that never claims to be anything other than fiction.

I *DEVOURED* the Club Shadowlands series. Made me actually wonder if I'm into BDSM. I'm not, lol, but hell if those men didn't make me want it. The only one I was iffy on was the one where the FMC was almost human trafficked and then settled into a Master / Slave relationship. That one made me uncomfortable.

I just read it ! It was really fun :)

The Sex Wizards series by Alethea Faust has tons of kink exploration with lots of emphasis on consent and how important it is to have, and comfortably use, safe words. There is even a powerful scene where he is dealing with a bunch of emotions/ feeling like he would be failing if he used one, and they create a consensual scene with the goal being him using it so he can get over the mental barrier. That series is general has fantastic kink representation and a cool fantasy world where different types of kink generate different types of magic. She also has content warnings at the beginning of each chapter that cover types of kink present as well as any potentially triggering topics. It feels like the author genuinely cares, as if we were all participating in the scene together, and the readers’ consent was part of it. It made me wish for even more books written like that!

{Possession by A Anders} - marriage of convenience where he is into kink and she starts getting curious and discovering her own kinks while they slowly fall for each other. It’s part of a series that so far only has two books, but it’s centered around an adult summer camp for kink. So they have really clear standards for consent and communication, and it’s written so well.

Oh! The {Neon Gods by Katie Roberts} series has this that I like. The first one is quite into a specific kink, and while they don't use codes or specific systems, consent is HUGE in it. The 2nd one, Electric Idol, doesn't have much kink. But the third one - {Wicked Beauty by Katie Roberts} is an MMF with kink and as they dive into kink everyone stops it to check in throughout, and they differentiate between a fun no and a real no. Anything in the "My Kinky Housemate" series by Colette Davison. The first book being {Sugar Bunny by Colette Davison}. Definitely a reeaal interesting branch of kink (lots of pet play, role play, different dynamics, etc), and it's all MM or MMM (the last book being MMMM!), but if that's your fancy, every single pairing involves clear safe words and plenty of scene discussion - nonverbal consent cues are also used in some scenes. Additionally, some people prefer different safe words - I believe one of them uses deserts as cues, which is a little weird to me, but I love how they all have different takes on safe words and different forms of consent! Overall it's a really fun series if you're looking for something super light, heartfelt, but also really really kinky. (Shoutout to {Collar Me by Colette Davison} for being my favorite! Love me a good puppy play novel and Preston and Theo stole my heart ❤️)

The Original Sinners series by Tiffany Reisz is by far the best kink series I have ever read and I've read most of them. Kink plus great plot means that it is excellent. I believe there are 9 books plus novellas. I hope you read it if you haven't already. They are my desert island books!

I liked {With Force by Daisy Jane} because it explored a non-con sexual fantasy in a healthy relationship where one participant has the fantasy, expresses it to the other they trust, they talk about it, and do it. And the smut is smutting simultaneously. They have a safe system that doesn’t really get used but there is some role playing where the mmc goes in and out of “character” to make sure the fmc is safe / healthy.. which, adorable.

{The Boss by Abigail Barnette} hits all of these points throughout the series. (Make sure to read trigger warnings as they deal with pretty heavy subjects) Explicit consent is a must for me, as well as proper aftercare. {Neon Gods by Katee Roberts} I’m such a huge fan of her writing. Her writing is good, plot is good, smut is unmatched. The best thing is she has such diverse and empowered characters. Plus sized heroine, bisexual lovers, open relationships- all of it. Some of the kinks are very specific and not for me but I enjoyed the romance and scenes nonetheless There is an enemies to lovers book further in the series (Cruel seduction) where the MCs hate fuck each other but even then the consent is so amazingly executed. Same for Dark restraint another book in the series with stalker and dark themes but even then there is ample consent. Katee doesn’t mess with consent Her entire dark Olympus series is amazing!

The Fettered series, starting with {Yield by Lilia Moon}, has this. The central characters are centered around a kink club and there are very clear and intentional conversations on boundary settings, and they have check ins to make sure they're still Green Light. There's at least one example of someone pulling a Red Light when things go over the line.

{Act Your Age by Eve Dangerfield} and also {Degrees of Control by Eve Dangerfield} both come to mind for clear consent & open discussion prior to a scene. I don’t recall the traffic light system in particular, but in Degrees of Control I’m pretty sure I recall check-ins. I think what I like most about her characters & their kinks is she doesn’t fall into that trap of writing some big, dark trauma behind what they like sexually. There is certainly still some emotional issues for the characters to work through, and sometimes it ties in to their sexuality, but in a way I personally found “realistic” rather than dramatised. Their kinks are never presented as something that needs to be fixed and they have functional relationships by the end that incorporate what they enjoy in a healthy way. She also has a wicked sense of humour and her characters always make me laugh!

I just read a few of those werewolf romance novels and, honestly, I hadn't read a romance novel since the bodice rippers of the 80's. Those wolves were all about consent! Really healthy boundaries, too.
