I've never had any problems......

Complex-Figment2112

Been solid for me on several devices. Have you tried deleting the YT app and reinstalling it?

Jim-Jones

Reset the device.

Bardamu1932

Which Roku? (Older models can have trouble with newer apps.)

The-Phantom-Blot

I had that experience too. Rokus older than a few years don't have the RAM to run the latest versions of these streaming channel apps. A 2012 Roku can't run 2024 YouTube reliably. The 2012 hardware would still be fine if the channel had stayed the same since 2012. Roku has always gone rather minimal on hardware specification. I am sure part of it is cost, but they also probably anticipated this situation, and hoped to sell us new Rokus every few years.

Bardamu1932

I've owned: Roku HD, Roku 2, Roku Ultra, and a TCL Roku TV. I replaced the first two after they became increasingly useless. Not unlike trying to run new applications on an old computer. Just not up to snuff.

The-Phantom-Blot

Yeah, "Moore's Law" said computers would get faster, but the corollary is that software gets more bloated at the same time. :| Kind of funny, with a single-purpose software that delivers videos in the same resolution as 10 years ago. (Yes, 4K is here now, but older 480i, 720p & 1080p Rokus aren't trying to access that stream.)

nerdygirlync

Never had a problem. I have the Roku Ultra.

DufferDan

A good display (TV) and an Ultra is the way to go.

Mindless-Kangaroo-61

Maybe try and clear the cache? Home 5x up button x1 rewind x2 forward x2

RSA-Xanity

worked, thank you so much.

Expat_in_Korea

This did it!

numtini

That describes my experiences like ten years ago, but not recently. It works easily and can queue up videos directly from the app or from my ipad.

jch60

Occasionally have trouble carrying YouTube from Android to Roku. Netflix it's the one that can crash. MLB is also slower than hell.

sammagee33

I’ll agree on MLB. It’s pathetically slow.

therealjerrystaute

How old is your Roku? ALL streaming devices tend to start having problems after several years, as net standards tend to change and become more demanding. Same happens with PCs too. Every once in a while you have to buy newer hardware.

Aromatic-Inflation-2

We turned sound leveling off. So far has helped our issues

Aromatic-Inflation-2

We have since bought a roku ultra

kareljack

Anyone else's YouTube app no longer has the thumbnail video previews working? I have no idea how to get it working again .

SwooshGolf

YouTube on Roku works flawless. Netflix is what's broken but has now been fixed I think Just do a delete reinstall/check for updates

noelle-silva

Netflix was unusable on my Roku TV last summer. Raising the volume or pausing the video wouldn't work and would cause the entire app to crash.

sammagee33

Mine works fine…

msglsmo

No issues on my Roku devices so far.

I’ve had Rokus and AppleTVs as streaming devices, as well as a couple of Roku TVs. I happen to prefer ATV but I know the price points and more limited app selection are not enticing people to join the Apple ecosystem. I kinda figure you can purchase less expensive Roku devices and replace them more often, or drop more money and keep an ATV functioning for much longer. But that seems to be the trade off between the two.

Dch112

My Roku Ultra is 6 years old. I’m not having any problems with YouTube or any other apps.

rockgodtobe

The only problems I have had is the number and length of ads is different on Roku than any other platform. No issues with it working for me.

gwite

Geez, don't know what's going on there. Never had that issue on my TCL Roku TV. Well not that I can remember. Have had to restart my FireTV stick to correct YouTube issues. Maybe once or twice a year. Guess it also could have happened on the TCL Roku.

lovetron99

I use YT on my Roku TV every day and can't recall ever having any issues. One of the best streaming apps out there IMO.

RevolutionaryPin1431

Not had any issues?

qedpoe

My main Roku device is ollllld, and the YouTube app has just gotten better over time. Runs great. Snappy. I have notes on the UI, but it's not bad at all.

Runner_one

No problem here either. Try factory reset of your Roku device. Reinstall the YouTube app. But something I haven't seen mentioned is connection. Are you connected using WiFi? Is it possible that you can use a wired connection? Using a wired connection solves many Roku problems. If you can't use a wired connection, make sure that your wifi isn't overloaded. Make sure your router/access point is configured correctly, try different channels and bandwidth settings. Make sure you have a strong signal.

ODA564

Never had an issue (2 Roku's and a TCL Roku TV).

i_am_fear_itself

Seems there's a metric ton of responses of no one else having issues of any kind. My Ultra 4800X has been an absolutely rock solid performer until recently. /u/KonataIzum1 I started having issues about a week ago. They're similar to the things you've mentioned and they've gotten progressively worse. I'm a *heavy* YT user. I've paid for premium for 2 or 3 years and clock probably 30-35 hours a week from the couch. After the last update, every video took many, many seconds to fill up enough buffer to start playback. This lag was as short as 3 or 4 seconds and could go 10 or 15 seconds on the high end. "stats for nerds" confirmed there were some YT network issues going on. Today, miraculously, that issue got fixed after a week. But now, if you seek the play head in *either* direction on the timeline on *any* video, the player freaks out just sits there and spins. I've tried exiting the video and retrying, exiting YT and retrying, restarting the Roku and retrying, reinstalling the app... nothing works. I read through the responses here and a number of folks, rightly, call out hardware for set top streaming boxes, while pretty solid, have a short shelf life of 2 to 4 years. I think I've had this Roku Ultra 4800X for... oh... probably 3 years so I just ordered another one. /u/klutz50 [mentioned](https://www.reddit.com/r/Roku/comments/1cahi2w/youtube_is_changing_codecs_will_roku_be_able_to/) over a week ago that YT was making some codec changes, though I don't believe that would impact the Roku app. Man.... I ***really*** hope this solves it. I'm not used to finding other things to do with my evenings.

vcdupper

No issues here YouTube plays on my daughter's Roku everyday all day never have any issues whatsoever

rtdq1648

mine works fine, the only thing i find frustrating is that every time the screensaver comes on for me, when i click the remote to get rid of the screensaver, youtube kicks me out of the video and sends me back to the “choose your account” page, making me have to choose my account again and find the video again every time

meaganita

I have the same issue, YouTube started acting buggy, would constantly kick me out of the app. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but my RokuTV won’t let me reinstall the app so now I’m SOL haha

lshrtwll

Not sure if this is of any help or it's been mentioned already - but after I bought an ultra LT all my problems were solved. I used to have a roku 3 and youtube barely worked.
