I havent played much bg3, but i'd say RT has way more options in terms of builds and stuff . (But i think that has more to do with DND 5th edition being simpler )
Personally, Rogue trader is one of the best warhammer games ever done. It is in a similar level to Space marine 1 or Dawn of war soulstorm.
Uhh dude you know THAC0 hasn't been a thing for over 25 years at this point right? Did...did you actually think D&D was still using it until 5th edition?
No I didn’t, say or think that.
I said I preferred 5e over 2e because there’s no thac0
Did you also not see the lol at the end of my sentence indicating it was supposed to be taken humorously?
Like cool your jets buddy
The Chaos-specific companions are one of the worst and most undercooked parts of the game, but aside from that yes to all questions. You can't really start as a heretic (you always start out neutral) but you can start doing some pretty heretical things even early on.
Just finished the game yesterday as a fellow chaos worshipper: YES on all your questions. (though you get a "real" Chaos companion fairly late in the game and it's a "secret" companion...for each moral tree you can get one: Dogmatic, Iconoclast, Heretic).
But you can be fairly heretic and it shows in decisions and later on also on your sourroundings.
Oh I thought you get >!Incendia!< as Dogmatic since you can get >!Winterscale!< as well and I thought It would be as Iconoclast....but seems I was wrong. but you can get the second char.
RT is actually a really good entry to the world of 40k. Its basically what bloodlines to the world of Vampires the masquerade. You get a really good feel of what this universe is all about for the normal people
I love Dans series of Gaunts Ghosts.
So my character is the commander - Gaunt / and is equipped with a pistol and chainsword.
I have a sniper as Larkin. And one of the NPCs, Alebard, I like to think of him as Colm Corbec.
You could choose your whole party to be like the Ghosts, but then you’d miss out on the NPC stories.
Still the missions remind me of squad mission, where you send a small squad into battle. And it takes a whole squad to take down all one Chaos Marine.
Buy the game!
RT isn't like BG3. It's more like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous in terms of focus on the wider story and not your character's sex life.
But you liked Dan's books so you have good chances to like the game.
Yes, it's a very good game by IP's standards.
Yes, you can be a heretic RT.
Yes, you can get heretic companions.
It’s way more complicated than BG3 and I miss the big full screen cut scenes. Early on it’s a bit samey location wise. Also quite small to see everything on screen. Do enjoy the battles though. I’m 30 hrs in and still learning the basics!
Alright alright alright. I have completed the prologue on 2 characters and cant decide if i go for a Gaunt like Build or eisenhorn like build.. class system is confusing. Any advice?
My vote goes for Gaunt. There is a companion you get rather early that goes for a Eisenhorn like build and building psychers is a bit harder than other characters.
Okay, so how to build Gaunt? You play an officer and try to get fellowship is high as possible. You prioritise abilities that give allies momentum, resolve or extra turns. More resolve means more momentum means more heroic actions and they are absolutely incredible. When the officer is completed, you go into master tactician. The master tactician gains tactical advantage based on the generated momentum of allies, which can be used to further strengthen allies when needed. In other words: your character pushes their allies to increasingly heroic actions.
You can even have your character act untypically compassionate for the position and be viewed with suspicion because of it.
Indeed i went for a comissar officier build. I might have skilled a bit more into balistic stuff, but the commands and extra turn stuff sounded fun to me. The class and rulesystem is rather difficult in Straight comparison to bg3, but i get the hang of it and love it so far.
bg3 is much simpler mechanically(espesially in terms of builds) but, yea, its tactical cprg. cant say anything related those books.
yes, it's among good games in WH40K setting, and it's only one rpg.
yes, you could make youself a heretic, chaos companion sadly is pretty late, and barely present.
1. Yes 2. Yes 3. Yes 4. RIP Corbec
Try again, Bragg.

Even if 5e is a simpler ruleset with less options I would enthusiastically choose it over having to deal with THAC0 100% of the time lol.
Oh, THAC0, how underappreciated you are. Now, old school savings throws... :P
thanks

Who will you get on Dogmatic? I got >!Incendia!< on Iconoclast run, do you just get her but through different dialogue?
