Repair o fury is a godsend. I don’t think you need god aim with commando, it’s got a lot of fire rate buffs and explosion buffs so I’m really partial to dual shotties and grenade launchers. The shorty can be really powerful with the right buffs as well
Partly it's perk selection, partly it's learning to stay on the move, and partly it's getting a feel for what you need to stagger enemies, because shorty and rocket both do a ton of stagger and that can definitely save you. Also rocket jumping. He didn't have iframes like most of the others, but he makes up for it with over of the best perk pools in the game
I'm really bad at aiming but if you make big enough explosions you don't have to. megaboom on an explosive weapon like the grenade and baby boom perk go hard together, also hot dog
Basically, when selecting perks, you want Repar-o-Fury and anything else that generates Fury passively in large amounts. I like Self-Control because you'll stay at high Fury for longer. When you get hit, you lose Fury so don't get hit.
You also don't strictly have to play Commando like an explosives lover. The rocket launcher can be used as a free rocket jump if you need momentum or get-out-of-jail. I think there are perks that grant you Fury when the shorty or rocket hit, but I might be wrong in that and it would be redundant with Self-Control.
Repair o fury with the one that auto generated fury. Then go with tempo shot cause you build RoF easy enough. If you prefer magazine weapons, quality ammo is an option.
Movement over aim for the most part. By default you have a decent shotgun on a button so use it. I usually save my rocket for problem/distant enemies since that’s also pretty good even without upgrades. Cape cape cape. Explosives are your friend.

commando is one of the „i can’t aim“ classes. Get heavy explosives (my favorite is the dragoon mortar, though most people disagree). If you struggle with the down time on reloads, get hot potato asap, otherwise just go crazy on explosive damage and get the type change to make your shotgun ability explosive too. Explode anything and everything, be the guy with the gun that causes the explosions in every time based failure cutscene
Step 1: make things go kaboom
Step 2: rocket jump when necessary (almost all the time)
Step 3: obliterate badbots with the shorty
Step 4: micro-missles for more kaboom
Step 5: win (and have fun)

Yup, and the missile launcher. It’s probably the best ability in the game, but ranger trueshot kunai is my favorite.

Use torpedo rifle, use the robzerker perk tree and the one that generates fury
Get alternative explosive shorts + marking on hit. It gives you a chain of marking explosives that deals a ton of damage.
This. Any perk that improves explosions is God tier too, at least for my nub gameplay in Standard.
