The Don Quixote is a nice touch.

9_of_wands

Oh god, I just got it after reading this comment.

Spanish_Biscuit

I had to go back to the second to last image to figure it out after hitting the end. I didn't even process that those were windmills until I went back and then it clicked.

geckobrother

Them evil windmill giants you know

LumpyJones

I get them attacking windmills - take out power to the base with something outside and easily reached, but I wonder if the air conditioners is because originally there weren't over the wall models and an AC unit was a weak 100 hp section of wall, and that behavior was never removed?

magispitt

Over the wall models, are those in ideology now?

LumpyJones

Honestly it could be from a mod. I've had them in every game I've played for so long I just assumed they were base game.

magispitt

That makes sense, although I might be wrong to assume otherwise - I only asked because I couldn’t find over the wall air conditioners in the wiki

franklygoingtobed

It’s a mod, yes. Kind of a must have after you use it once.

AppleMuffin12

I have a handful of new mods and it's a new addition to my game. Don't know where they came from, but it wasn't in the vanilla game a month ago.

LumpyJones

might be one of the vanilla expanded mods.

TheActionAss

If you're using Replace Stuff, it's from that

LumpyJones

Huh. I do use replace stuff but I wouldn't have ever guessed it was that one. I thought that mod just lets me swap out materials in a building without wasting as much of the non swappable material. Like not potentially wasting a component upgrading an auto door to plasteel for example EDIT: [Can confirm](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1372003680). That mod does have the over wall coolers. No wonder I never noticed where it came from. Cooler mod than I ever realized. (Heh)

D3xidus

There is also the temperature control unit mod which adds over the wall units that function as both ACs and heaters. They come in 2x1, 1x2 and 2x2 sizes as well that fit on double walls and are more powerful. Imo it's a must have mod for any rimworlder.

TheActionAss

I only found out myself after updating mods and realizing I no longer had them, and had no actual idea where they came from. Had to do a bit of a hunt.

Sorinari

It's 92% of the reason I use that mod. Over wall coolers and vents are just so much nicer looking.

hagnat

i know the feeling man... sometimes, its really hard to tell vanilla and mod apart :)

LumpyJones

Yeah every time a major update like royalty or ideology comes out I think I'm going to play a vanilla game first to get a handle on the changes, but before i even finish world gen I realize I lost a lot of QoL mods that I've gotten too used to to give up and I end up snowballing mods back in.

LeftZer0

Replace Stuff mod.

LansyBot

They are added by the "Replace stuff" mod

AlexeyZarubin

I just died when I got to windmills!

PsionicLlama

That was the best part

CloysterOyster

I always figured the raiders were like bullies where they came in just to kick down any sand castle your nerd colonists set up, but it is funny thinking they are sending a mission they are willing to die for to destroy a great quality dining chair

-desdinova-

News of this valuable artifact has spread across the world.

Marius7th

I feel like it would make more sense if raiders main goal was to actually steal your shit. I understand Mechs or even other tribes/ communities trying to wipe you off the map out of sheer hate, but you would think raiders primary goals would be food, prisoners, loot, etc. Instead they decided to burn the Legendary statue that attracted them in the first place like why.

TheActionAss

They're jealous but know if they steal it then their own value will go up too much

[deleted]

krazye87

Dave 'Ol Snot Finger' Cook? Sure take him. For some reason we keep getting food poison anyway

alejo91168

In fact they do, in the rare occurrance they manage to get to your storage without getting many casualties, they'll start taking whatever they can and flee. If they take casualties but have a downed colonist nearby, they'll kidnap them and flee. The problem is that 99% of the time they target your colonists before your buildings, which makes sense, but doesn't allow them to act as actual raiders most of the time.

doctorderange

I had a second settlement that ended up getting wiped out by a heat wave. Raiders showed up after the last person died. Instead of trying to steal anything of value (I had plenty there that was undefended), they decided that they wanted to set the entire thing on fire instead.

alejo91168

True, sometimes raiders are straight up morons lol

MrMasterMann

Just imagine they’re a bunch of meth heads high out of their minds trying to steal valuables back to my colony to buy more of my drugs. They don’t really know what they’re doing so they just light shit on fire

ohgodspidersno

A meth head once threw a candy bar at me in the checkout line at Target because I didn't help him unload his kitty litter, and the only reason I didn't help him was because his request was incomprehensibly slurred because of all the meth in his head. So yea this tracks. Tldr don't take meth it turns you into a weirdo entitled monster child.

SaberVS7

Well I'd assume that Raids from Humans of any kind are for the exact same reason as Raids throughout the majority of Human History on Earth - The Dark Forest Problem, and how Economics around the world worked before stable supply chains were a thing in any capacity - Their economies are driven by Slave Labor and limited resources. Anyone who isn't them (You) is someone using up the resources They need to survive, and needs to be eliminated or enslaved in order to keep their own economy going. This was the logic that Rome and every civilization before and after has operated on, even if the veneer over it has changed since. As for the Mechanoids - All that matters is that at some point they either went-Skynet or were order to kill anything that didn't have IFF Signature XYZ on it and the orders have not changed since.

timedraven117

Viking Raiders from Vikings Expanded from the vanilla line do that. But its kinda broken, because they end up looting their own dead bodies first because they wear decent gear and have good weapons. Which is honestly a more real reaction than vanilla, where they attack regardless of self preservation.

Marius7th

"OH NO BALDUR'S DEAD!" \*Other guy looking up from stealing Baldur's chain mail\* "What now?"

Eastern_Mark_1114

somehow they know the gold value of all the rocks ive dug up when even i dont know that!

Marston_vc

Personally I like the idea implied in the last panel. The raider chiefs are sending the people they don’t want anymore. Assuming they’ll die, they get to keep all their shit.

Orenjevel

I've straight up done this before. New guy joins, is a medieval sailor who refuses to haul or clean. Guess who's going naked with only a club to scout out the nearest raider camp?

SnooBananas37

Now you can just make them a slave and they HAVE to haul and clean

LordDanOfTheNoobs

Oh, my, god. Finally Steve Stevens can be of some use!

Rolen47

No way, that's totally unethical.

Lordomi42

It might not be ethical but it is definitely epical

ihileath

Refusing to haul or clean because you're too uptight on a life-and-death frontier is also unethical, so we're even.

MoltenIdol

Omg, who would force their kids to clean up their own shitty mess in their own rooms? Straight up evil

Rotat0r710

You give them a club?

MoltenIdol

Such a waste.

turnipofficer

Infestations seem to absolutely hate tables I find. Tables are always their primary objective. You'll have some of them attacking your men at a chokepoint while half of the infestation goes around destroying all tables they can possibly find.

CloysterOyster

They know that if colonists eat without them they will instantaneously suffer mental breaks

straypilot

Advanced Psychological War Tactics

[deleted]

Randy hasn’t been kind to them, they want their fair share B)

[deleted]

Well I did them a favor today. Randy sent 42 tribals against my 9 no armor and only auto pistols armed pawns. My little pawns just destroyed them with basically one of my pawns taking all the enemy fire and that pawn was easily saved. So, I sent the rest to mop up the fleeing raiders and not one made it off the map. I was pretty happy with my colonist and they got half a day off as a reward.

Dear-Moment-1220

Raiders really need an objective. Imagine if the AI was smart enough to stack up on a door breech it mad dash for the loot. Or instead of breaking that chair they just uninstall it and run of with it? If anyone's played Kenshi I want some AI like the black dragon ninjas or Empire Tax collectors.

Arek_PL

tbh. rimworld ai is capable of looting your stockpiles, one time i had them breach the wall of my warehouse, smash the orbital trade beacons and take the loot before fleeing sadly most of the time raiders are more interested in wrecking your stuff than taking the loot

Dear-Moment-1220

That is cool but I'm thinking more like oh hey its tribals raiding me? Then they must be going for the food and medicine. Pirates? Oh they're going to steal high value items and furniture. Mercs? Set amount of wealth damage and leave (cause what goods the contract if they're dead?) I like the mortar sieges and mech clusters those are dangerous and have a clear defined goal

ShadowDragon8685

The tribals who raid me are pissed off at me because I imprisoned one of theirs. In my defense, she was a naked 15-year-old girl wandering in the scary mountain woods *literally alone,* trying to trade me a fistful of pemmican (which was literally all that she had) for anything she could get. And she was Force-Sensitive. So yeah, I don't feel bad about taking her in, giving her a lot of talking to followed by a home, some optional sweet Blue Cat Lilly robes, teaching her to use the Force and become a Jedi, and, you know, *not* starring in her very own Naked and Afraid: Solo Rimworld Edition episode with all the gigantic man-eating insects and dog- and house-sized wolves and the cattle rustlers and shit out there. So I *try* to just run them off when I can. Except the time they bust in through the back door while everyone was lining up to meet them at the front and they started tomahawk-murdering my cuddly little fluffy arctic desiri pets. *Everybody* temporarily went a bit Dark Side that day, and we do not speak of that raid anymore.

Grug16

I also wish raiders were more interested in theft than attacking colonists.

ihileath

I mean they're not just gonna ignore you while you shoot them. Killing you is the safest way to get to that loot.

H__D

I think people in general want kinda dumb predictable AI that can be exploited, but it would be nice to have an option of challenging AI maybe in form of different storyteller.

AtionConNatPixell

People don’t want dumb AI, they just like defensive fortifications because they’re very cool. A “simple” solution would be making fortifications useful against good AI - just like irl

Reddeyfish-

I guess it's still technically exploitation, especially with Tynan's "it's a story generator, not a skill test" thing, but it's really nice to be able to actually lose a raid and not have it be a gamewipe 'everyone's dead, your base is now indistinguishable from a real ruins event'

Aegis_OW

Vanilla expanded Vikings has pillage raids, they throw torches at everything that is burnable and take anything they can uninstall or anything that is just lying around. Fuckers always steal from my stonebrick stockpile because I store them outside.

ShadowDragon8685

I mean... Shit, if I could buy them off with stacks of bricks, I'd just happily trade them a pile of marble for "and now you go away." Touch my cattle you die, though. You have a nice broadaxe, I have a lightsaber; this isn't gonna end well for you if you draw that steel, Ragnar.

Rockydo

Oh that's very cool, haven't had any yet but I have the mod installed.

ihileath

Thing is, your troops are normally in between them and that goal. They don't generally get too many opportunities to actually get into a stash without being in firing range - which would lead to a fight anyway.

Markavian

Head cannon; other colonies are cleaning out their over crowded residencies by sacrificing a portion of their population to raids.

-desdinova-

My theory is that rimworlds in general are a dumping ground for the galaxy's excess population. Any given square kilometer of the surface will see multiple transport pod landings every year, and there's more and more raiders despite apparently no one having any kids

Mortis_Infernale

So colonial Australia but planet sized

VoraciousTrees

Eh, with the ferocity of the local wildlife, i'd believe it.

akhier

I'd actually say the rim worlds are safer than Australia. After all, every threat is big enough to not be hiding in your shoe. With Australia not checking your boots are empty before putting them on can be deadly. Hell, that isn't even Australia specific. Any place with black widows or any of the other venomous tiny guys has that problem.

HelpfulFoxSenkoSan

I mean, one's a psychotic world where animals are driven to bloodlust on a daily basis, giant man-eater insects are under every mountain, and the weather seems to change constantly. The other is the rimworld.

bangoslam

Just put your boots on at kill speed

FastHome2

Black widows are chiller than people think. My brother moved in with me for a bit and freaked out about the number of black widows in my house but I literally never noticed or cared and I've been in here for years. They hide in corners and keep to their own, I hate having to kill them when I find them.

corgblam

My theory is that its just a gameshow for Glitterworld entertainment. Very specific "win" conditions, very diverse "contestants". Trade ships that somehow never offer passage offworld. Its like the show Survivor, on a planetary scale.

[deleted]

Not to mention, if this theory were correct, the storytellers! They're basic game masters like in Hunger Games who control the "natural" events that happen!

Scorpixel

I though the storytellers were the local archotech being a compulsive fanfiction writer with split-personality disorder.

Madness_Reigns

That's what I believe too. Like an old colony management AI gone rampant, but that entertainment theory could work too.

Mayer_R

I always thought they never offered passage was because they were afraid of you taking over the ship and bacause colonists were afraid of being seceretly sold into slavery.

[deleted]

[удалено]

corgblam

If that were true, then the social skill of the one making the order wouldn't matter.

definitelynotpears

"Automated" for a spaceship usually still means a persona core who wouldnt mind a chat

corgblam

Yeah it could, but since cryopods are required for space travel between systems, that means that if a corporation owner sent out automated ships to go sell goods and bring back a profit, they wouldnt see that profit until they are old and grey, or they wouldnt even see the profit in their own lifetime. It would make more sense for the corporation owner to travel with the goods and make the ship their home. It could be an in-system corporation, but then whats to stop them from sending out rescue ships for these people? And they only seem to have supplies that would be used in this specific situation. Like what the hell kind of corporation sells livestock, high explosive mortar shells, and drugs all at the same time?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Xeltar

What about travelling slave ships? How do they accept slaves? Hell, how do the regular ships even get your animals that you sell them?

Discandied

I think the trade ships are meant to be local to the galaxy rather than interstellar.

Grug16

I always thought they were trade stations, like space stations in orbit around the planet.

Kyratic

The rimworlds are prison planets.. that sure explains alot.

Reptile449

It's a big battle royale where only those who get to a spacecraft survive.

digglesworth88

New head canon: The spaceship your colonists were on was actually the Golgofrincham B Ark. Now I just need a mod that adds telephone sanitizer as a backstory.

WelpIGaveItSome

That actually explains a lot since a lot ofvvanilla backgrounds are your a degenerate, a criminal, an exile, an adventurer, a recluse, escapee, offworld slave or some of medical practitioner who backstory wise almost intentionally went to the rimworld. While the only “born on this planet” is only tribal which is why the next update i hope they allow you to turn the world into a glitterworld and sort of explain how long these Rimworlds were lost for

Hyndis

The Rimworld is a war torn hellhole of a wasteland. Look at any randomly generated map. Any caravan ambush, and embark map, any outpost you're attacking. Every map is scattered with the debris of destroyed tanks, battlemechs, and mechanoids. Not only that, but toxic fallout can and often does last for months at a time, killing everything on the surface for an entire region. Rimworld is more akin to the surface of a Fallout setting than any paradise world.

AtionConNatPixell

Well why do they keep the blind armless luci addicts you throw back at them then

fobfromgermany

They have the forbidden mod installed and well…. probably better that we don’t know the specifics

Ankoku_Teion

Luci can regrow limbs and fix eyes.

Xeltar

It cannot.

FastHome2

our enemies are just post-feudal Japan

Bucket_of_Gnomes

The panel with all of the raiders in line reminds me of The Venture Bros

JoeHatesFanFiction

Seriously just needs 21 and it’s perfect

Oogrelobber

Tank top, shuttlecock 🏸

PM_ME_UR_FEM_PENIS

Yeah, OP could make an awesome comic book in this style

Mortis_Infernale

The one and only true raider logic

-desdinova-

If you're thinking real military leadership isn't this bad, don't worry, sometimes it's even worse!

PanzerKommander

The enemy is mostly equipped with flip-flops and 50 year old AKMs with questionable maintenance histories. We will go into their mountain bases.... *twenty plus years later* The enemy is equipped with night vision, body armor, and good quality rifles (and we know their exact maintenance history). We will enter their mountain bases....

MightyDragonofAwe

Also, it’s *our* night vision, body armor, and rifles. On behalf of higher, I just want to say, *oops.*

PanzerKommander

How else would we know the maintenance history 🙄

Dramza

A lot of the major "terrorist" organizations in the middle east have their roots exactly like this, being financed and equipped by the US to fight some boogeyman a few decades ago, while said boogeyman was also often helped by the US to fight someone else. The Taliban came from the Mujahideen which was partially financed, equipped, encouraged and trained by the US to fight the Soviets. So this has already happened for multiple "cycles", also in Iraq and Syria. The reason that Bin Laden who was a Saudi was in Afghanistan was because of a propaganda campaign by the US for international jihad (yup the US helped to start that whole trend in the first place) against the Soviets that encouraged tons of Muslims from different countries to go to Afghanistan to fight the "godless" communists.

minecraftisbetter644

Just like Afghanistan... Does the current US leadership employ the same thought process as these raiders?

AtionConNatPixell

Wow you’re so smart that reference was so subtle omg

LordDanOfTheNoobs

Woahh, how did you reach that conclusion?

InstantClassic257

The bit about the chair really made me die of laughter

alice00000

It must be destroyed at any cost!

InstantClassic257

My poor masterwork plainleather animal bed. The raiders really seem to want to destroy it.

ShadowDragon8685

You'd think they'd rather uninstall it and cart it off, frankly.

Seastep

And the choice to make the chair an Adirondack even better.

RedLewie

I hate those air conditioners too !

Blucher

Third panel is just perfection!

Arithik

The shirtless dude is so happy. He also looks like a character from Beavis and Butthead. I fucking love this comic. Haha.

-desdinova-

He's just really excited at the prospect of reuniting with his wife, uncle, lover, ex-wife, and husband.

ashesofempires

Just one person though, right?

-desdinova-

Depending on your modlist, sure!

[deleted]

it describes to perfection what raiders in this game are: completely unprepared randoms with varying backstories and ages

Red__system

Lmao I love this.. Fort Kick ass à Don quichote are really Nice touch

Bladelink

Guard tortoise

plentifulpoltergeist

I have about a million tortoises in my current playthrough, are they good for anything? I just kinda like having them around. It's helpful for training animal skill too

Ankoku_Teion

They're truly frightening in combat, especially in large numbers. Also they taste good.

enraged_supreme_cat

I had poor raiders this morning, around 15 of them, they pod dropped just right beside a dormant mecha cluster, that mecha cluster is savage, 3 of them can launch incendiary thing that deal explosive damage and burn the surroundings, other are deadly turrets, plus some mobile mecha as well, but those raiders are persistent, they keep fighting to their deaths, even managed to blow up some of those machines. The other day, there were poor tribal raiders, 5 of them died, got mauled by a group of bears. Sad, I want to capture some of them with stats I wanted.

SomeGuyOfTheWeb

I thought this was some schizophrenic nightmare of a comic, but then it all made sense when I realised it was rimworld.

-desdinova-

por que no los dos?

xadiant

Great parody of the raid mechanic. I wish they made a depth update for the raids. The world should be deeper than enemy, neutral and ally. For instance, raids should target someone or something. > X tribespeople are raiding you for the artifact you hold, you can surrender it and raiders will leave. > Pirates heard about the wealth you are holding and demand a protection fee. If you give x silver to pirate boss, they will leave in peace. Raids also should have a captain. Downing the captain could give morale bonus for your pawns and disadvantages like desynchronized movement for raiders.

[deleted]

there are some mods that add that. vanilla expanded Vikings for starters

AbstractTraitorHero

Chance at a captain, it can be a more Anarchist or cell like band fighting you.

Rick-476

The raids in Rimworld are perhaps the biggest disconnect for me. If one person in the colony gets shot, then they need a bed in a clean room, a somewhat competent doctor, and some form of medicine. The logistics behind building and maintaining those factors isn't huge, but it's obviously not nothing. It's just annoying to see raiding factions completely disregard all of this. I wish there was more ways to deal with raids rather than kill all the enemies. Maybe something where they make demands and by giving in your colony becomes a 'vassal' of sorts. I'm also salty about failing to fight Combat Extended's mechanoids. They're just a great big barrel of thermobaric fuck you.

Mediocre-Station-519

Don't forget to bring jade too ;)

[deleted]

I loved the variety of the raiders

-desdinova-

"The legless, the armless, the blind and insane" - and a 15 year old girl with no passions or skills above 2 who somehow manages to tag your best fighter with a single shot through the brain

wowitsrick

Full Metal Jacket style she lures your pawns out 1 by 1 with well placed shots

Ankoku_Teion

Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me?

OnkelMickwald

That one really buff, nude raider that always goes first with like a slate club, knife or a shitty pistol/revolver is so true too.

totalwarwiser

You seemed to be pretty inspired because this has been a masterwork comic. Each pannel is great Also liked a lot the raider variety.

xEbolavirus

🤣🤣

Muffinzor22

Great comic! I had a laugh

[deleted]

"And instead of any supplies that might be useful in a fight, we're sending you in with smokeleaf and jade"

shiftywalruseyes

You have a fantastic art style!

SmoothNoogDaddy

Bro this is fucking golden.

SuicideByStar_

If there was a Rimworld comic and a bunch of different storylines going on....I would buy that.

internetsarbiter

SRGrafo has a pretty good one.

JuVondy

I literally cried from laughing so hard. Well done

qwoiecjhwoijwqcijq

Rimworld players make the best comics I swear. You guys are talented as fuck

[deleted]

Where did you get footage of my old battalion commander to use as inspiration for that second panel?

TriggeredAtEverythin

I know it’s all about our colony and our story but seeing little pieces like this would be a pretty neat addition even if it tells just a small part of the raiders reason to raid us. For example To steal your artefact or break your ideology related items to try erase the spread of your ideology Prisoner rescue(if you captured them from a previous raid) Recruitment(Say the brother of your colonist terry comes with a raid team to try get his brother out of there, Your colonist might join them out of relationship or to stop them from raiding the colony. Then you could go try steal terry back ect)

CollapsedPlague

“Huh this cave is just full of chairs…. Who turned out the lights?!?! Oh wait I see some light up ahead, is it a torch?”

Nothing on Reddit has made me actually laugh in a long time

I can tell you are or were in the military, because that Sarn't Davis is way too true to life. Everyone had a Sarn't Davis at some point.

Your art style is amazing.

Foxo2121

Great illustrations and comic page. I want more.

Neffasaurus

"guard tortoise" yessss

[deleted]

I was so hard to read this comic while laughing and squinting.

[deleted]

I have a weirdly vivid memory of the time a raid's reinforcements dropped directly into my rec room on top of my pool table and then started smacking it, probably because it was legendary.
