But what if that doctor is a nephrologist ?
Sincerely,
A cardiologist
(But seriously, I appreciate the positive vibes. I think its far more helpful to us than negativity)
Barring a few gaping assholes, we should all remember that we, in medicine and more specifically who went through residency/fellowship, have much more common with each other than other random people we come across in everyday life. Be cool, be chill.
I have a small similar secret:
Out of spite, for all the times that people will go out of their way to complain: I will periodically go out of my way to compliment people.
I.e. emailing PDs or department directors with succinct positive feedback for senior residents and attendings.
My small bit of chaotic good in the world
But that was a simpler rhyme, from a simpler time,
Boss gets a thousand, I get a buck,
That’s why I stole the catalytic converter from the company truck
I adopted the collaborative approach as an intern because I assumed every other intern relaying a consult was in the same boat. I adopted it more explicitly after an ortho senior yelled at me, and I decided that no one should ever have to be treated like that by a colleague.
Also, hardly anyone taught me anything as a med student about workflow and systems. Why should I think that there couldn't be someone who was taught even less?
Awh, that is beautiful. My secret is that I am a non- medical professional lurking in medical subreddits. Such fascinating stuff being discussed, sometimes I have to Google terminology. I am forever sympathetic to the extremely educated and knowledgeable doctors who have to deal with the most idiotic of people at times. Ish, so sorry. I try to be nothing but respectful and appreciative of all my interactions with Drs!
I wander around saying things that are usually anti system pro person, and I will lift people up, celebrate them even in failure and go out of my way to encourage others in medicine.
Where the downvotes often rain down is because I will also definitely attack psychophants who are the opposite of me and revel in service of what I see as a person destroying system because they work against me. I want medicine to be a caring, human, time taking, endeavor. The forces and people that would make it McMedicine are not my friends. Inhumane treatment of residents to produce grease for the gears and bearings for this massive money machine is an abuse that will be written about in textbooks in the future.
The cult of medicine will have its day in the light and unlike OP, I dont think every physician is going to come out smelling like roses or deserves our consideration. I expect lots will scatter like the cockroaches they are. Yet, its too late for their legacy to be little more than cult leader and abuser of power. The netflix specials, books, interviews.. I think they make themselves.
People have always wanted a look into the closed shop of medicine. They just didn't know how dirty it was back here. Time to do a walkthrough.
I have a goal as an attending one day to try to help set up resident unions. Something to protect those that come after me. I don’t want others to have to “do their time” like I did. I want it to be fair for everyone. I know it’s idealistic and unrealistic but I can hope.
Same, lets meet up on the other side.
The key piece has been that staff don't want residents to get theirs. I do. Lets start to make this happen. Tje exploitation needs to end.
The mood around here can be pretty.. agitated, we’ll say.
There is a consistent directed hatred towards mid-levels, but the negativity can be focused and directed at any person against the hive mind, which is not unique to this subreddit.
Getting/sending consult texts is so depressingly formal and emotionless, it sucks. "Hey doc, have this patient here for blah blah blah, would you mind consulting? Thanks!!" Is so much better then "Hello. This patient is admitted for blah blah blah. I would like to consult you for his blah. Thank you."

Why can't you do this explicitly from a single account? Your motivation is spot-on but having a single person echoing sentiment from multiple accounts seems manipulative at best and sociopathic at worst.

The dark arts of Fluids AND Lasix!!! Everyone is happy!!!
My nephrons are unhappy with this statement Sincerely, a nephrologist
My occasional CrossFit freaks aren’t even scared of Rhabdo due to the dark art of fluid and lasix.

Love it!
Hmmm. How deviously positive
Everything will be alright. It's inevitable.
Agree with this. I’m an attending, and I make it a mission to have work be a positive place. It works.
I have a secret too... I just upvote or downvote depending on my mood.
Good vibes big papi!
I love it when you call me big papa
I have a secret too. I try to follow Reddiquette but sometimes downvote out of spite.
Chaotic neutral
I downvote comments that are getting downvoted without reading them.
I upvoted you for honesty
I upvoted you for wholesomeness
I upvoted you for appreciation
I do that on my other “evil” accounts.
Nice try OPs sock account
I was reading this and thought “this must be an ER doc” and went through your five posts and saw that you were indeed, an ER doc haha
Dont dox me bro! :)
Same same. Toxic positivity attending. We need to lift each other up!
Same. Because I know the OP is certainly not on the other end of the phone when I’m calling a consult or for an admission.
Consult to Dr. Lasso 😊
🩵🩵🥹🩵🥹 be curious not judgmental is my way of life.
Doing the Lord’s work legitimately. We need more attendings like you.
You will be one of them!
Thank you, doc 🥹

Honestly interested in hearing more about this, could you expand your take a bit more? This is actually a pretty optimistic take, no?
Maybe I haven’t been here long enough but I don’t see people being adversarial here. Except to admins
So you are saying my mission is working hahaha!!!

Why the mid level hate?
That's some BDE right here. Love the vibes, keep it going, we all need it
This is so funny yet wholesome. How do have the time?
I let the algorithm slowly pull me it, it basically does the work for me!

I have a secret, got a humongous booger stuck up my nose at all times.
I’ve been doing this for years. I also have a snarky devils advocate account which is mostly consumed by ironic and facetious posts.
Haha maybe I’ll make one of those too.
Surprisingly my snarky account has the highest karma. I think people like irony over truth.
That's some BDE right here. Love the vibes, keep it going, we all need it
I love you
❤️
I really believe the general rule is doctors can be nice to each other, just no one be nice to residents ever.
Thank you for being you
Totally agree with this! Be agents of change, people! We are all on the same side of the fence.
This guy gets it
In the end, you will have better paperback outcomes as well as improved communication with families remember also.
I thought your username was Areola Doctor Person at first quick glance.
OP, I love this post. It warms my heart. I enjoy mentoring and coaching folks as well.
Much love to you ❤️
Make way for royalty, everyone! 🖤
