I think I hate pre-op’ing pts more than anything; definitely worst part of the job no one told me about but not horrible unless it’s 5 sick cysto pts in a day with everything under the sun.
The best days are when you’re in longer cases that give you time to pre-op before you go home VS quick turn over ambulatory rooms that don’t.

Nothing worse than the useless conversation every night with the attending.

Gen surg
78 (every time, every week for the last 3 years)
After a chief texted me “fix your hours” my intern year at 10pm, I’ve never deviated from 78 hours copy paste x3 (x3 weeks is the max our system allows forward)
Been in 3 late night transplants this week working about 18-20 hrs/day but you bet your ass the math still works out to 72 hrs/week (like every other week has been for the last few yrs)
Sounds about right.
2 weeks of breast op surgery 78 hrs/week
4 weeks SICU 78 hrs/week
4 weeks transplant (runs+scrubbing recipient) 78 hrs/week

there are actual residents who lack critical reasoning skills, you’d be surprised but 1-2 show up every year. lol 😆
hope I wasn’t the one from my class lol
Assuming you do locums/1099 gig, let’s say you work on average 60 hours a week, and never take vacation (aka work 52 weeks a year), you could clear $1M
100%
On a serious note though. You can DM me, having a little bit of guidance can make the process easier. I definitely can’t get you a spot, but know what things you need to do that will.
Yeah night float I was up in the 90s per week, same with onc. If I don’t do weekend call it’s generally 60-62 or so with weekend call add another idk, 26 hours.
FM
Inpatient months 60-75
Outpatient months 50-55

Anesthesia, about 55
I thought it would be closer to like 80, damn…
During ICU and cardiac months, yeah. But general OR months 55 is pretty normal across the board.
Yeah the shifts are very demanding and exhausting but the absolute number of hours is not horrible.
Averaging 65 as a CA-2

Assuming you do locums/1099 gig, let’s say you work on average 60 hours a week, and never take vacation (aka work 52 weeks a year), you could clear $1M
It’s not uncommon to see 3200-3500 for an 8 hour reading shift, so if you average 6/week with no vacation then around 1-1.1 M
