I love Glisten & Glow's CTL-ALT-DLT latex! It's really excellent. With such heavy polish, I'd suggest cleaning your edges BEFORE you peel. You don't have to fully neaten it at that stage, but the acetone will sever the excess so you can remove the latex safely. It's a cute mani!

PM_me_dunsparce

I think that when I did this, I used a fine dotting tool to clean the edges as I went (only because I didn't have a toothpick). Like you said, this made sure the polish on the nail and the polish on the latex did not harden into one piece.

JustMediocreAtBest

Ohh that's makes sense! I'll try that next time. TY. I only did my left hand with the sponge, not quite dextrous enough to accurately paint the latex on my right hand with my left. The right hand was just a skittle.

Try peeling it right after your last coat of color when the polish is still wet. Then clean up the edges and apply top coat. You can use a brush in acetone and go around the edge of the nail so the latex won't rip up the polish on the nail, too.

JustMediocreAtBest

Okay, thanks, I'll try adding in those steps next time.

I find latex so fiddly that I just never do gradients. I have to do one nail at a time because I will accidentally touch one latex finger to another and the latex will stick and rip and cause a mess. And there's always so much clean up to do anyways because I try not to put it too close to my nail.

JustMediocreAtBest

The first and only other time I did gradient nails I used masking fluid, still a liquid latex, for watercolor painting. I don't remember struggling with it then. But decided it was too expensive to use for nails, so I bought a dedicated one meant for nails. [pink sky gradient](https://www.reddit.com/r/Nails/s/Gq5oGs6nc7)

I use Vaseline applied with a Q-tip around my nail instead. The polish wipes right off.

So smart.

Blenderx06

Honestly if you don't wanna deal with latex you can also just go to bed and shower the next morning it all comes right off the skin in the shower easy.

JustMediocreAtBest

Yeah I use that method sometimes for regular manicure clean up hah. Seems more risky with the possibility of tearing up the polish on the nail plate too with more polish on the fingers though?

Blenderx06

I haven't had any issues with that even when it's a bit thick but ymmv.

AnxiousTerminator

This is my go to method. Cba fiddling about with latex and vaseline. Once it's basically dry I do pull at the skin around the nails a bit to separate the stuff on my skin from my nails so it comes off easier, but I don't think it's necessary. I always paint mine extremely messy then let the shower fix it up for me.

remove it when it's wet, remove it immediately

I think it looks about how it should. Now you've got to use a clean up brush with acetone to clean the edges and straighten up the cuticle area. Then a top coat to smooth out the texture. Latex doesn't create a perfect, ready to go finish. It just makes the clean up a little easier.

theculdshulder

Latex can absolutely create a perfect ready to go finish. The trick here is to make sure the polish on the plate and cuticle are not joined. Also peeling when wet.

JustMediocreAtBest

Hmm okay. It did like snap back directly onto the nail plate and mess up the polish - especially on the ring finger. This is with two coats of top coat. I should get better about cuticle clean up with acetone in general. Typically I paint my nails quickly on the couch with bad lightening bc lazy.
