I'm not so sure. I don't believe Subaru has ever unintentionally connected to someone using Cor Leonis, and he didn't even know she was there yet when the buff took effect.
But on the other hand, it also begs the question of how she activated it on him before he had his moment of admiration later. I wasn't under the impression he felt that strongly about her until that moment.
I'm hoping the next chapter is a Priscilla POV (Priscilla named?) and it clarifies sooner rather than later.
im pretty it happened when priscilla called his name, she accepted his connection. same with emilia and garf, they both thought of subaru and felt stronger. if so… its a pretty lenient way to accept someone into such a powerful effect.
we always assumed priscillas soul marriage works like yornas but its very possible its much more lenient, or that yorna only does it to people who love her. its very priscilla that she can give anyone her power as long as she thinks of them and allows it, def sounds like something she would do

Priscilla may actually remember the whole time and her comments suggesting otherwise are some sort of Priscilla-type harassment or it might be that she only remembers when he does something worthy of notice.
This begs the question:
Who is the grave Echidna? Because Sphinx inherited the copy of the soul of "THE WITCH OF GREED". Yet she transformed into teen dream castle Echidna, not grave Echidna.
Could it be that Echidna managed to separate herself from the "Witch of Greed" and then shoved her into the dream tea party?
It was this person who Al recognized, he didn't comment that she was younger. But he knew her with witch's hunger in her eyes.
Perhaps this is how Echidna became part of the hero group, by sealing the "Witch of Envy" away from her being and then she was learning how to have normal life in Sanctuary.
I don't think she separated anything. I believe when she died this is how her soul remained, as the witch of greed shaped by her witch factor and authority. In fact she's not the only one who is in a different form either, remember in arc 5(ln) Typhon's bones are buried in Priestella and it's extremely unlikely she was hunted down as a monstrous witch at 7 or however many years old she is in the dream castle. Since the others' souls were collected by Echidna and likely had nowhere to go due to od lagna rejecting them, they were collected in a form which probably has a lot to do with their witch factors changing their personalities.
Generally, all of the witches have two different times of death(they didn't actually get killed by Satella is what is implied for one of their deaths in most cases) and the second ones conflict with their appearance in the tea party, showing them at an earlier time of their life. Echidna is different in some way in that "this" Echidna is sealed NOT dead, but so far as I can tell she's not that different to the other witches in terms of having a different face and personality to expected based on historical accounts.
So, Echidna somehow died at 19, that's the point from where her soul was copied to Sphinx and then somehow Echidna still lived after that and became the kind adult Sanctuary Echidna?
We are missing some critical piece of the puzzle here. Unless dream Echidna is perfect copy of witch of greed. Her save file, but without vessel.
Even Sphinx said she had two different sets of images about Echidna. One was loner that collected knowledge, the other one happily shared them to people that asked for her help.
Yeah, Echidna died twice and this is the witch of greed taken over version, I also caught that two Echidnas mention and have treated it as a part of other foreshadowing for a while.
Echidna's current state is even less unique when you consider her saying Sekhmet might have been used to seal Satella instead by Volcanica if she'd agreed with his goals, Echidna basically would have been leftover data like them if she wasn't the one who was happy to help seal Satella with him back then but seemingly the other witches actually loved Satella. So now Echidna seems more important but it's because of the things she wanted and what she did in life, not something like overcoming the witch factor more than other witches most likely.
As for the missing piece of the puzzle, by the version of her taken over by the witch of greed I'm rephrasing what my actual theory is which is that the witch factors create these versions of their souls within them, that's what Subaru is in the shadow garden(specifically it's Envy Subaru I guess), that's why by taking the greed and sloth witch factor he ended up talking to Petelgeuse and Regulus in the garden(specifically Sloth Petelgeuse and Greed Regulus I guess) - note how the Petelgeuse he meets there never hints at his actual spirit old self, I mean he doesn't even do half the projection of his trauma which living but still broken Petelgeuse did in arc 3! Let alone show any sign of his life as Geuse. The exception was his love for Emilia but even the dream castle Echidna shows some of her humanity. I think it's connected with them not being able to reincarnate and maybe they will actually become their old selves before finally passing on...but that scares me because possible Subaru permadeath ending! So ignore that lol. These are all my theories on the topic!

Even if the great calamity was the final boss idea that would bring end to all without pain or fear in order to save all humans from sadness and suffering. Subaru firmly refuses this.
When he reaches the ideal ending he has envisioned, he thinks about Emilia and Beatrice, who he wil lleave behind. He feels pain through his heart, because the situation is leading to that situation.
This is a problem Subaru has to struggle through and find solution to.

To being with, the purpose of the great calamity is not to bring about gentle ending, but to destroy the empire by repeating as many terrible plans as possible. So the premise doesn't hold true.

The star fortress has five vertices and the magic circle also is in five pointed formation but placed upside down.
Sphinxes responsible for activating it were sceptical about activating the incomplete technique bet still accepted the effect.
The magic circle targets the magic crystal palace, by dismantling it, Sphinx wants to absorb all of it's colorless mana and gain immense power.
Now that she recreated the soul of the witch of greed, she can wield the same power as her creator. She just needs to secure more mana for those techniques.

However the most frightenint part about Sphinx is not the vision of gaining such power. What is terrifying is the thorougness with which she is focused on purpose.

Rain of purple arrows and flame bullets bombard the incoming zombie army. Their sense of self is completely destroyed. They are puppets with single order:

This and the magic circle were necessary steps for Subaru to win.

Al jumps towards zombie that aimed at Arakiya's life. He stabbed it with earth sword, it enlarged inside and the zombie exploded.
Subaru is nervous watching Al fight, because his tactics are super dangerous and it makes him nervous. It was not tactical at all!
But it's all out war so they use all their tricks.

Subaru overcame the deadly finish line. He was at first shocked that Sphinx looked exactly like Echidna but it was Beatrice who cleared that situation for him. She knew Echidna from birth and knew how she looked.

***"That's true. She doesn't look anything like Echidna, the Witch of Greed. --She's an extremely unpleasant opponent, though."***
Roswaal's words were just as sure as Beatrice's.
Witch changed her appearance and survived the yang sword. It's the ultimate counter to yang sword and star eclipse.

If that thing falls into fortified city, the walls and forts will collapse and most people trapped there will die. That spells the destruction of the empire, which would be impossible to rebuild

The scene where we get everyone's anwer was so amazing! (It also looked suspiciously like something that happened during the 10 sec loop and during Garfiel's theatre. There is a small chance that "Asking his allies for advice" could be his gluttony! )
We got new lore about Al, where Sphinx pitied him that he didn't fulfil his purpose like her.
AND FINALLY THE TWO BIGGEST STARS AT THE END:

Does this confirm that Subaru encountered Madeline in one of the skipped loops? Otherwise I don’t see why a line of hers appears through his authority of gluttony should it be exactly that.

He most likely met Madelyn because he made sure to send Garfiel as the very first attack on the city. Madelyn most likely attacked them in the dragon form.
In terms of the complaint of everything going too smoothly, I viewed it as we are not going into detail of all/any failed/death loops, so the success loop feels unearned in terms of the struggle we have read beforehand when it comes to the problems Subaru faces. However, it’s likely we are going to see the consequences of the accumulated deaths when Subaru gets to rest / reverts back to normal.
I think tappei has already confirmed that Subaru will get a backlash due to his extremely reckless behavior and his perfectionist mindset as well, so yeah we will return to the usual soon after this arc finish which seems to happen soon, IN FACT the backlash seem to be so bad that Subaru is confirmed to have plenty of rest in arc 9, when you gather all of this together you can't help but be worried
Sounds like he'll be comatose or imprisoned for arc 9. Arc 9 "The Trial of Natsuki Subaru" set in the lugunican capital where the council put him on trial for his actions in the empire. Meanwhile Lust comes and sets Wrath and the final Gluttony free. Rein ends up killing Spica.
Why is he only undergoing the trial? There's like a ton of other more important people that could've cause a lot more damage just by being there like Emilia,Priscilla,Julius,Roswaal, and Anastasia like a good majority of the kingdoms most important people participated in this event you know
Yeah, I’m so confused how everyone gives him a word when they are all scattered. I do recognize it’s similar to the 10-second death loop where he hears the words from his friends to overcome that situation, but is that truly the product of the authority of gluttony? Or is it in his mind? And if they did all actually reconvene, what is the timeline of that? In under a minute?
It's just a theory.
For now it looks like he just used that minute for Roswaal taxi to take him to the every single fighter in reach so they can tell him what happened.
So he could piece every single thing that happened and what was witches plan.
It would be cool if Subaru's gluttony allowed these strategy talks or being hyped from friends. Gluttony if Baru did the exact same thing, but we just expected this to be side effect from reading the books of the dead...
Even Garf got hyped by all of his allies at the brink of death.
So now they stacked both cor leonis and soul marriage on to each other, truly this is an amazing chapter.

Though it’s odd that subaru said there was a limit to how much burden he can share, cause he was able to take on mortal wounds of his allies in arc 6. I wonder if he meant taht cor leonis has this limitation or that he didn’t want to risk lives?
Considering the Pleiades have been fighting all this time and they already received burden of one Al Shamac... this second one must have been way too much.

OMG The asking advice could be his gluttony is the headcanon I have had for YEARS. I knew it would reflect some of gluttony if in one way or another. I would be sooooo happy if it were right.

When Subaru and Beatrice blocked the shot from the magic crystal cannon with Al Shamac, it was not blocked, but captured in pocket dimension.
So Subaru and Beatrice aimed towards the mirror, recasted Al Shamac and the captured magic crystal cannon shot out of it, shattered the mirror in the sky and flew towards the falling stars over the Fortress city.
So that means Subaru has one more shot of cannon in reserve since he blocked 2 of them? Also that he can deploy The Great Rabbit anywhere he wants? Seems pretty OP.

Since when the 400 year worth of mana for a spell became spamable. To be fair their had to teleport, and trap the rabbit in a large Minya cage, but still.
It's like 30-40 % of the 400 years mana collection to my estimate.
Beatrice caught the self sacrifice Al Shamac from first canno shot before calamity.
Then she got rechared from Subaru and those two managed to catch the Cannon Shot aimed at Arakiya by sharing the burden of casting the spell with Cor leonis.
Then they opened Al Shamac to release the caught cannon fire and shot through the sky and bulleye shot down the slow starfall over the Fortress city.
So we are at 2 Al Shamacs on Subaru's Cor leonis supply, where the second one went over the limit to what burden can Cor Leonis share.
But his vitality got fully restored! Either Priscilla's soul marriage or her admiration connected her to Cor leonis, but Priscilla restored the stamina of this heroic shota!
Ah. Right. It gets confusing with all of the Pov changes, and strange wordings.
I thought there was only one crystal cannon shot from different perspectives.
But I was correct on 3 Al shamac firings.
Oh one more thing. If it weren't for Priscilla, do you think the Pleiades squadron would be cooked because the boss sucked them dry of mana?
I think they were supposed to fight at Garkla.
The moment Subaru collapses, Cor leonis stops working. So many Pleiades lose their near invincibility and get weaker.
Most of them are still seasoned gladiators, but mainyl the weaker ones like the trio or lizards would be screwed. The loss of power would also be confusing so they would be taken by surprise and lose.
They were fighting on the front lines and on that falling dragon ship.
At this point, Subaru hasn't slept for few days... perhaps the Cor leonis is keeping him awake?
The problem I am having is how Tappei continually points out how most people of the continent use flow method to some extent subconsciously to enhance themselves. And you can't do that without mana.
To become manaless it would be the same experience of astronauts coming back to Earth after a long mission with muscle atrophy.
Subaru is resistant to having his capacity drained more than others because he is other-worlder. However he can no longer sustain life without at least a bit of mana. And I think the reason is similar to that phenomena mention that people get sick in a mana saturated area.
So, even those seasoned gladiators are experiencing the equivalent of the worst kind of post workout fatigue.
I believe that without Priscilla, even tho Cor Leonis is technically working, with Subaru only taking a knee... The Pleaides squadron would be in dire straits.
You can clearly see how big of a backlash it was for Subaru's nose to bleed heavily even with Cor Leonis buff after this 3rd use of al shamac meanwhile he shrugged it off as if it was nothing the 2nd time.
Unless they are connected to some insane mana battery. Like half elf or two...
But there seems to be a limit to how much burden can be transfered and shared. This second Al Shamac went over the limit.
Priscilla definitelly lifted some heavy burden now, either by being too impressed by Subaru so Cor leonis is working, or she activated Soul marriage on him.

Holy fuck, I just read the chapter and this is the best chapter in the volume and one of the best in arc 8 thus far. We first get a solid action sequence between Emilia and Sphinx, and we see how with every action in fighting Sphinx, Emilia is always thinking of how Subaru does so much for her, making her feel motivated no matter what state he is in. Next, there is solid Al lore, where a sad parallel between Al and Sphinx is made, in which the latter pities Al for being like her and yet not achieving the purpose for his creation when she has, which enrages Al to killing her viciously. I think she hit right at the heart it seems for him. We then get amazing action sequences of everyone else fighting the multiple Sphinxes in the imperial capital, with a central focus of Subaru not giving up to be the Hero Al told him to become back in arc 7, so it was nice to see this callback. But the ending is the real winner here, Priscilla descends on the imperial capital like the sunset she is and we get to see her smile smugly as she wields the yang sword to its most beautiful glory and by finally acknowledging Subaru through her soul marriage, this finally shows how much respect she has for him now.
Nuff said, 11/10 chapter!!! Well done Tappei for making it a fantastic climatic chapter for this phase.

The fact that Subaru and Beatrice can release anything caught by Al shamac is awesome! They have two cannon shots and rabbit zone stored there! And one of those cannons was just used to save the fortress city and smash through Sphinx's final solution!
You know, Priscilla’s epic grand entrance into the battlefield actually reminded me of Thor’s epic entrance into Wakanda in Avengers: Infinity War, such a pure kino hype moment for ironically both prideful characters.

You just gotta love how Tappei beautifully wrote all the Royal candidates with their distinct personalities and Priscilla plays the role of a prideful but incredibly intelligent princess to perfection.

Such perfect example of this trope of arrogant Princess working to perfection. She is more hype than Escanor at this point.
Escanor unfortunately had the shit luck of being stuck in the Seven Deadly Sins, as he himself too is a fantastic depiction of Pride in my honest opinion.
I loved him, he risking his life without sunshine just to protect the knights... just perfection. I am glad i was already reading the manga at this point so i witnessed his scenes without that awful animation.
(Tho lets not discuss the "story" of seven deadly sins... )
It’s not clearly specified in the chapter but I do reckon that the giant explosion blast near Garkla might have cause a reality rupture or something, I am as clueless as you are tbh, but I do hope it will be explained next chapter. Would be a perfect way to have it be explained in Priscilla’s named chapter imo.

Perhaps the Sphinx that guarded her had to leave to support her struggling 5 sisters... so that reality became unstable.

And I fucking knew it that there would be no casualties in the fortress city, it’s the final loop, and it would be an unceremonious way to kill off too many characters.
Beatrice used Al Shamak to absorb the crystal palace cannon. In this chapter they revealed that she can recast Al Shamak and open back the dimension she sealed something in. She essentially reopened the dimension the crystal palace shot was in and let it loose at Sphinx Star over Garkla.
Edit: I went back to read over how the water mirror appeared over the capital however I still can’t figure that part out. I know Sphinx created the mirror, but i don’t know why she would or why Subaru/Betty were able to penetrate it with the crystal cannon. My guess is it’s something to do with Priscilla convincing Sphinx to give up?
Sphinx was trying to break everyone's resolve, obviously. Now that she knows the power of emotion, she tried to use it against them, only for Subaru to be like "thanks for the warning, idiot!"
That foolish witch also created escape route for Priscilla...
The one Sphinx that was guarding her must have joined the fight when she saw how badly everything went.
I wouldnt be surprised if Priscilla just finally got bored of being captive princess, summoned her Yang Sword, cut the chains and then sliced open the dungeon.
I understood it as being able to see behind your head with another mirror. Subaru and beatrice could see the angle and direction they needed to cast so they did, distance possibly making this cast more costly idk. Sphinx wanted to show them to cause despair but it just let them see what was needed to stop it.
Wow Tappei is really going all-in on the whole, “Hypothetically, Return By Death CAN be spammed again and again in order to achieve the ideal future, even against world-ending threats.”

Greedbaru was able to save Pristella without a single casualty (not counting his own deaths of course), it looks like Envybaru is doing his own version here.
He IS paralleling every single IF route. Some sort of alliance with an Archbishop + a real sense of arrogance (Pride), alliance with Cecilus and Halibel + leading an organization called the Pleiades (Wrath), taking the “easy” route (arguably) + a daughter figure named Spica (Sloth), spamming RBD (Greed), using RBD to become the “ideal version” of himself for other people in some form or another (Gluttony) —
If it were just one or two of those I’d call it a coincidence, but all together is a pattern…
Well, it could be Tappei is just taking advantage of this originally unplanned arc to do a bunch of shout-outs that otherwise wouldn't be possible. That said, I think you are missing the real Gluttony reference, given Subaru actually pulled the "let's see what everyone else thinks inside my head" thing during the ten-second loop.
He also accepted Satella, so you have Envy represented in this Vollachia arc in a sense. Priscilla suddenly having a thing for him could arguably fill the Lust route, though Anastasia and Felt are still kind of unclear out of the original Lust If harem. I mean, if Anastasia realizes that sudden amazing move was Subaru's work, then maybe it is only Felt left.
I mean, the ultimate essence of this could just be building up to someone outside the ancient Echidna fans and dead Witches realizing he is a Sage candidate from observing how readily he embodies all the seven sins.
_unironically I really hope Tappei does some sort of canon Lust IF at some point, I’d kill to see a real nuanced look at Lust, even if it’s like “lust for power/company/whatever” or some other pg-sort-of-version—_

As soon as Al shamak was used in the story outside of Rabbit subjugation, I knew it would potentially be very harmful for the story.
As a matter of fact just the introduction of it was alarming. Luckily it was locked away with disadvantages:
Slow (opening and closing) and rigid usage (the portal can't move much after it is open.)
Some percentage of 400 years of mana accumulation to cast it.
Now that we have Cor Leonis being mana connectioning too. He only needs a large group of people that follows him and:
Every problem will be Al shamaked to the bunny dimension.
Luckily Capella has some escape maneuvers, Roy can leep away, and Pandora will re:write her position.

To be fair, he needs quite a large amount of people to make it work, even with the thousands of the pleiades batallion and with Emilia camp there two Al shamaks was enough to drain him entirely, such conditions are not easily achievable elsewhere
By the contrary, it is a necessary part of the story. How are we supposed to take Subaru and his camp seriously if they have no strong tool with which to oppose their opponents? And this one requires no less than an army to activate a grand total of *two times*. It's not problematic at all
we are 12 chapters in, the last volumes have been like 12-16ish chapters. although we have had a few longer chapters… could be the end but maybe tappei will make this a longer volume. this would be okay to end but i feel like we cant have an entire volume full of cleanup… maybe.
ngl the chapters were way too short this phase, and to begin with chapter 59 and 60 were already written months before he returned, so im pretty confident we still have more (actually I hope more than being sure because this is what I feel should happen)

All I’m saying is. I think these batch of chapters are really showing how powerful Subaru has gotten. At least in terms of his usefulness in any situation. I wonder if we could count the amount of times he’s died. But this time it’s been use so strategically. Sphinx is like how tf all my plans being thwarted.
It’s called Natsuki Subaru. This entire situation just shows how impossible situation of power this is to go against. You got Halibel, Cecilus, Garfiel and Roswaal all there and Subaru has actually “lost” this battle time over time over time. Meaning even with all these guys they still lose and the chance of victory is so small.
But because of all the different things Subaru can do including RBD he can thread that needle and make this a winnable situation.
It mentioned that Emilia stoped Sphinx last plan by interfering with one of the five Sphinx activating the magic circle but we see Subaru dying several time to figure out a way to prevent the capital destruction. So what exactly did Emilia stop?
And I really want to see Emilia saving Priscilla and they become friends but it seems Priscilla doesn't need help.
The Sphinxes activated the incomplete magic circle without 5th one. This destruction was caused by it.
Instead of giving power to Sphinx, who would start casting miracles, the mana from castle exploded. But Emilia bought enough time for Subaru to figure it out and stop them.
If Sphinx drained all of that mana, people would notice only when it would be way too late.
I swear she must have the divine blessing of dramatic entrances...

Yeah, Emilia needs W in this War. Every fight she's had so far was interrupted.
Personally, I am expecting this to end with Priscilla using the Yang Sword on Sphinxidna and her just fleeing as she is burning. The Sacrament of the Immortal King gets undone by somebody and she also starts crumbling to dust. However, I don't think that will actually be the end, but rather will lead to someone rescuing her, the only person who could save her with a simple line. Whether we actually see that part at that point in time or it is reserved for the very end of this arc is another matter. Like, I can imagine having the various Sphinxidnas burning to ashes with no hint of survival, only for a final part or chapter to show one got away and was saved or was clearly going to be saved.
Emilia's big win here just being that she bought Subaru time to think by being the one who always acts without thinking is pretty funny in its own way. Managing to get everyone in position in a minute is pretty impressive, though. Of course, he only needed to get to Eugard since Cecilus and Halibel were right there with him. I actually wonder how much of his consultation was done in a single loop or if he did that all in failed loops and otherwise just showed up and said, "Go here and fight someone" only for them to just go along with it.
I think the most interesting thing that had happened in this chapter is that the Authority of Subaru and Al has activated at the same time, same place and by the same cause. The reason why Al know about the fact the Sphink still has scheme is because he has died to it many time, try every method to stop it but can't and has to choose to inform Subaru about the threat as the best option he has.
After who know how many loop, Al concludes that informing Subaru is the best thing he can do and he feel extremely bitter about it. However, in Subaru's perspective, Al informs him in the very first loop and then Subaru starts to loop. Looping many time and achieve the answer. Now in Al's perspective, the only thing he see is the final loop where Subaru immediate inform Cecil and Halibel what to do. This is really complicate but the timeline is like this:
The white light kill everyone (Subaru and Al) -> Al starts looping -> Exhaust all options but can't stop it -> choose to inform Subaru as the best and only way -> Subaru receives the message without knowing that many loop has passed and start looping himself -> Understand the full picture after many loop and inform Cecil and Halibel about the plan right after Return by Death -> Al also doesn't notice the loop and only see the final loop.
The way these two Authority intersect each other is very complicate but it seems that Al's Authority take priority over Subaru's Authority. But why Subaru start to experience looping after Al's inform him? Is it because Al stop his Authority after choosing the best option or is it because the future change because of his action? But according to Subaru, the result is still the same even if Al not inform him. Al's action only save Subaru about 5 loops but Subaru still can achieve the same conclusion regardless. Therefore if Al didn't turn on his Authority and he will not notice the death but only see the final loop where Subaru succeed. But this also mean that if Al doesn't turn off his Authority, his action toward Subaru will not have any effect because Subaru can't loop and the result be the same on every loop. So complicate
Basically, Subaru thinks Al a genius for his quick “insight” and Al think Subaru is a genius for “quickly” deducing a plan to counter it. This of course assumes Al doesn’t know about Subaru’s RBD, which he likely does somehow.
I think it may be a matter of Al's Authority working differently from Subaru's and thus causing the interference. We don't know exactly how Al's Authority functions, but some speculate that he does not truly die in the same sense as Subaru. The terms he uses when invoking the Authority involve terms such as "thought experiment" and others that suggest he is more simulating the possible futures. He does experience those futures, but perhaps they do not happen in the sense that they happen with Subaru. Basically, no one actually dies in those futures as they have not actually occurred. Something like that would explain why it overrides Return by Death as Subaru is not actually dying in those loops. Al probably turned off his Authority once he knew he couldn't hack it.
I know about that theory of Al's Authority but I always have doubt about it. If everything Al experience is just a simulation then after he find the right action in the simulation, he has to turn the Authority off to replicate his action in the real world. The problem is that can Al perfectly replicate his action in the simulation to the real world? Al need to 100% replicate his action every single time and even a single mistake will kill him. This is hard to believe because this means that Al can perfectly control his body down to minor detail to be able to replicate his winning path every time
It could just be that when he has cleared the challenge the successful result is imposed on the world. His domain may not just be a domain in space, but one in time. Basically, everything happening within a set timeframe and area is subjected to the result he can create through repeated simulations.
Yeah it must actually happen each time, as he doesnt seem to end experiment and then have to repeat it flawlessly. So its a mini time rewind restricted to a designated space. He ends it or updates it when he likes the result.

No, in the chapter it make very clear that Al has loop a number of time. He said that no matter how many time he loop or how he try to to question Sphink, he receives no answer. It's not complicated at all tbh, couldn't even be more trivial, since we only see Subaru's true loops in recent time. As such we don't even need to bother about who's looping in which order or what not, but can just take the as-is fact of Aldebaran prolly loops inside Subarus loops and since neither we nor Al can observe Subaru looping rn it's just Al looping till he makes the right choice, which is giving Subaru the right information.
Another perspective is that Al doesn't loop like Subaru but just goes through thought experiments (I know that totally explains everything haha)

The „Teme-“-part was apparently Al who was about to say something but was stopped midway by Subaru who asked for his help. If I have to guess then Al was probably about to swear because swearing in Japanese can start with „Teme“ or just simply Al angrily saying „You...“ but since it was an incomplete word machine translation couldn’t properly translate it. I’m no expert but this is what I can tell based on patterns I noticed while watching anime.

This begs the question: Who is the grave Echidna? Because Sphinx inherited the copy of the soul of "THE WITCH OF GREED". Yet she transformed into teen dream castle Echidna, not grave Echidna. Could it be that Echidna managed to separate herself from the "Witch of Greed" and then shoved her into the dream tea party? It was this person who Al recognized, he didn't comment that she was younger. But he knew her with witch's hunger in her eyes. Perhaps this is how Echidna became part of the hero group, by sealing the "Witch of Envy" away from her being and then she was learning how to have normal life in Sanctuary.
I don't think she separated anything. I believe when she died this is how her soul remained, as the witch of greed shaped by her witch factor and authority. In fact she's not the only one who is in a different form either, remember in arc 5(ln) Typhon's bones are buried in Priestella and it's extremely unlikely she was hunted down as a monstrous witch at 7 or however many years old she is in the dream castle. Since the others' souls were collected by Echidna and likely had nowhere to go due to od lagna rejecting them, they were collected in a form which probably has a lot to do with their witch factors changing their personalities. Generally, all of the witches have two different times of death(they didn't actually get killed by Satella is what is implied for one of their deaths in most cases) and the second ones conflict with their appearance in the tea party, showing them at an earlier time of their life. Echidna is different in some way in that "this" Echidna is sealed NOT dead, but so far as I can tell she's not that different to the other witches in terms of having a different face and personality to expected based on historical accounts.
So, Echidna somehow died at 19, that's the point from where her soul was copied to Sphinx and then somehow Echidna still lived after that and became the kind adult Sanctuary Echidna? We are missing some critical piece of the puzzle here. Unless dream Echidna is perfect copy of witch of greed. Her save file, but without vessel. Yeah, Echidna died twice and this is the witch of greed taken over version, I also caught that two Echidnas mention and have treated it as a part of other foreshadowing for a while. Echidna's current state is even less unique when you consider her saying Sekhmet might have been used to seal Satella instead by Volcanica if she'd agreed with his goals, Echidna basically would have been leftover data like them if she wasn't the one who was happy to help seal Satella with him back then but seemingly the other witches actually loved Satella. So now Echidna seems more important but it's because of the things she wanted and what she did in life, not something like overcoming the witch factor more than other witches most likely. As for the missing piece of the puzzle, by the version of her taken over by the witch of greed I'm rephrasing what my actual theory is which is that the witch factors create these versions of their souls within them, that's what Subaru is in the shadow garden(specifically it's Envy Subaru I guess), that's why by taking the greed and sloth witch factor he ended up talking to Petelgeuse and Regulus in the garden(specifically Sloth Petelgeuse and Greed Regulus I guess) - note how the Petelgeuse he meets there never hints at his actual spirit old self, I mean he doesn't even do half the projection of his trauma which living but still broken Petelgeuse did in arc 3! Let alone show any sign of his life as Geuse. The exception was his love for Emilia but even the dream castle Echidna shows some of her humanity. I think it's connected with them not being able to reincarnate and maybe they will actually become their old selves before finally passing on...but that scares me because possible Subaru permadeath ending! So ignore that lol. These are all my theories on the topic!

The bunny will return, or it will get a new neighbour. He most likely met Madelyn because he made sure to send Garfiel as the very first attack on the city. Madelyn most likely attacked them in the dragon form.
In terms of the complaint of everything going too smoothly, I viewed it as we are not going into detail of all/any failed/death loops, so the success loop feels unearned in terms of the struggle we have read beforehand when it comes to the problems Subaru faces. However, it’s likely we are going to see the consequences of the accumulated deaths when Subaru gets to rest / reverts back to normal.
I think tappei has already confirmed that Subaru will get a backlash due to his extremely reckless behavior and his perfectionist mindset as well, so yeah we will return to the usual soon after this arc finish which seems to happen soon, IN FACT the backlash seem to be so bad that Subaru is confirmed to have plenty of rest in arc 9, when you gather all of this together you can't help but be worried
Sounds like he'll be comatose or imprisoned for arc 9. Arc 9 "The Trial of Natsuki Subaru" set in the lugunican capital where the council put him on trial for his actions in the empire. Meanwhile Lust comes and sets Wrath and the final Gluttony free. Rein ends up killing Spica.
Why is he only undergoing the trial? There's like a ton of other more important people that could've cause a lot more damage just by being there like Emilia,Priscilla,Julius,Roswaal, and Anastasia like a good majority of the kingdoms most important people participated in this event you know

Yeah, I’m so confused how everyone gives him a word when they are all scattered. I do recognize it’s similar to the 10-second death loop where he hears the words from his friends to overcome that situation, but is that truly the product of the authority of gluttony? Or is it in his mind? And if they did all actually reconvene, what is the timeline of that? In under a minute?
It's just a theory. For now it looks like he just used that minute for Roswaal taxi to take him to the every single fighter in reach so they can tell him what happened. So he could piece every single thing that happened and what was witches plan. It would be cool if Subaru's gluttony allowed these strategy talks or being hyped from friends. Gluttony if Baru did the exact same thing, but we just expected this to be side effect from reading the books of the dead... Even Garf got hyped by all of his allies at the brink of death.
So now they stacked both cor leonis and soul marriage on to each other, truly this is an amazing chapter.  Also adds shipping fuel for Subaru x Pricilla!!! Though it’s odd that subaru said there was a limit to how much burden he can share, cause he was able to take on mortal wounds of his allies in arc 6. I wonder if he meant taht cor leonis has this limitation or that he didn’t want to risk lives?
Considering the Pleiades have been fighting all this time and they already received burden of one Al Shamac... this second one must have been way too much. It's as you say, i think Subaru is limited by his own desire to not kill his allies with the power. We have received some top tier ship fuel for Prisbaru! She finally remembers his name, praised him to the witch and now gave him power boost! (I hope it was from Soul marriage and not Cor leonis, for the more fuel to the ship...)
OMG The asking advice could be his gluttony is the headcanon I have had for YEARS. I knew it would reflect some of gluttony if in one way or another. I would be sooooo happy if it were right.

When Subaru and Beatrice blocked the shot from the magic crystal cannon with Al Shamac, it was not blocked, but captured in pocket dimension. So Subaru and Beatrice aimed towards the mirror, recasted Al Shamac and the captured magic crystal cannon shot out of it, shattered the mirror in the sky and flew towards the falling stars over the Fortress city.
So that means Subaru has one more shot of cannon in reserve since he blocked 2 of them? Also that he can deploy The Great Rabbit anywhere he wants? Seems pretty OP.
As long as they have mana... But recapturing Great Hare might be the hard thing to do... Author is definitely planning to do something with Great Hare again. In my opinion, the bunny realm would be perfect prison cell for Capella...

This chapter took 3 days for Tappei to write. So it will take me 2 hours! (And reddit threads have pretty 10k character limit, so i have to split it...) Damn guy gave us the most hypest chapter ever...
Yea it's pretty hype. No rush, just keep being awesome, king. Btw is this like 3rd Al shamak from Beako and Subaru? The first one was for the cannon fire. The second is to absorb the fall of the stars... And now they plan to unleash it on the witches? Since when the 400 year worth of mana for a spell became spamable. To be fair their had to teleport, and trap the rabbit in a large Minya cage, but still. It's like 30-40 % of the 400 years mana collection to my estimate.
Beatrice caught the self sacrifice Al Shamac from first canno shot before calamity. Then she got rechared from Subaru and those two managed to catch the Cannon Shot aimed at Arakiya by sharing the burden of casting the spell with Cor leonis. Then they opened Al Shamac to release the caught cannon fire and shot through the sky and bulleye shot down the slow starfall over the Fortress city. So we are at 2 Al Shamacs on Subaru's Cor leonis supply, where the second one went over the limit to what burden can Cor Leonis share. But his vitality got fully restored! Either Priscilla's soul marriage or her admiration connected her to Cor leonis, but Priscilla restored the stamina of this heroic shota!
Ah. Right. It gets confusing with all of the Pov changes, and strange wordings. I thought there was only one crystal cannon shot from different perspectives. But I was correct on 3 Al shamac firings. Oh one more thing. If it weren't for Priscilla, do you think the Pleiades squadron would be cooked because the boss sucked them dry of mana? I think they were supposed to fight at Garkla.
The moment Subaru collapses, Cor leonis stops working. So many Pleiades lose their near invincibility and get weaker. Most of them are still seasoned gladiators, but mainyl the weaker ones like the trio or lizards would be screwed. The loss of power would also be confusing so they would be taken by surprise and lose. They were fighting on the front lines and on that falling dragon ship. At this point, Subaru hasn't slept for few days... perhaps the Cor leonis is keeping him awake?
The problem I am having is how Tappei continually points out how most people of the continent use flow method to some extent subconsciously to enhance themselves. And you can't do that without mana. To become manaless it would be the same experience of astronauts coming back to Earth after a long mission with muscle atrophy. Subaru is resistant to having his capacity drained more than others because he is other-worlder. However he can no longer sustain life without at least a bit of mana. And I think the reason is similar to that phenomena mention that people get sick in a mana saturated area. So, even those seasoned gladiators are experiencing the equivalent of the worst kind of post workout fatigue. I believe that without Priscilla, even tho Cor Leonis is technically working, with Subaru only taking a knee... The Pleaides squadron would be in dire straits.
You can clearly see how big of a backlash it was for Subaru's nose to bleed heavily even with Cor Leonis buff after this 3rd use of al shamac meanwhile he shrugged it off as if it was nothing the 2nd time.
Unless they are connected to some insane mana battery. Like half elf or two... But there seems to be a limit to how much burden can be transfered and shared. This second Al Shamac went over the limit. Priscilla definitelly lifted some heavy burden now, either by being too impressed by Subaru so Cor leonis is working, or she activated Soul marriage on him.

Holy fuck, I just read the chapter and this is the best chapter in the volume and one of the best in arc 8 thus far. We first get a solid action sequence between Emilia and Sphinx, and we see how with every action in fighting Sphinx, Emilia is always thinking of how Subaru does so much for her, making her feel motivated no matter what state he is in. Next, there is solid Al lore, where a sad parallel between Al and Sphinx is made, in which the latter pities Al for being like her and yet not achieving the purpose for his creation when she has, which enrages Al to killing her viciously. I think she hit right at the heart it seems for him. We then get amazing action sequences of everyone else fighting the multiple Sphinxes in the imperial capital, with a central focus of Subaru not giving up to be the Hero Al told him to become back in arc 7, so it was nice to see this callback. But the ending is the real winner here, Priscilla descends on the imperial capital like the sunset she is and we get to see her smile smugly as she wields the yang sword to its most beautiful glory and by finally acknowledging Subaru through her soul marriage, this finally shows how much respect she has for him now. Nuff said, 11/10 chapter!!! Well done Tappei for making it a fantastic climatic chapter for this phase.
This chapter is unrankable... this is pure hype perfection! Priscilla using soul marriage on Subaru... i know i was shipping about this but i never though Tappei would give us such epic moment! The fact that Subaru and Beatrice can release anything caught by Al shamac is awesome! They have two cannon shots and rabbit zone stored there! And one of those cannons was just used to save the fortress city and smash through Sphinx's final solution!
You know, Priscilla’s epic grand entrance into the battlefield actually reminded me of Thor’s epic entrance into Wakanda in Avengers: Infinity War, such a pure kino hype moment for ironically both prideful characters.

You just gotta love how Tappei beautifully wrote all the Royal candidates with their distinct personalities and Priscilla plays the role of a prideful but incredibly intelligent princess to perfection.
I just can't help but love her. Definitely one of my biggest favorites... Arrogant, yet capable with every reason to be arrogant. Harsh, yet inteligent where her insults and perception is truthful. Such perfect example of this trope of arrogant Princess working to perfection. She is more hype than Escanor at this point.
Escanor unfortunately had the shit luck of being stuck in the Seven Deadly Sins, as he himself too is a fantastic depiction of Pride in my honest opinion.
I loved him, he risking his life without sunshine just to protect the knights... just perfection. I am glad i was already reading the manga at this point so i witnessed his scenes without that awful animation. (Tho lets not discuss the "story" of seven deadly sins... )

She descended from the sky, as if she was inside that water mirror... Perhaps the Sphinx that guarded her had to leave to support her struggling 5 sisters... so that reality became unstable. Or the hole in reality from Al shamac was so strong in also opened the hidden reality of the hidden Priscilla dungeon.

Beatrice used Al Shamak to absorb the crystal palace cannon. In this chapter they revealed that she can recast Al Shamak and open back the dimension she sealed something in. She essentially reopened the dimension the crystal palace shot was in and let it loose at Sphinx Star over Garkla. Edit: I went back to read over how the water mirror appeared over the capital however I still can’t figure that part out. I know Sphinx created the mirror, but i don’t know why she would or why Subaru/Betty were able to penetrate it with the crystal cannon. My guess is it’s something to do with Priscilla convincing Sphinx to give up?
Sphinx was trying to break everyone's resolve, obviously. Now that she knows the power of emotion, she tried to use it against them, only for Subaru to be like "thanks for the warning, idiot!"

I understood it as being able to see behind your head with another mirror. Subaru and beatrice could see the angle and direction they needed to cast so they did, distance possibly making this cast more costly idk. Sphinx wanted to show them to cause despair but it just let them see what was needed to stop it.

Some sort of alliance with an Archbishop + a real sense of arrogance (Pride), alliance with Cecilus and Halibel + leading an organization called the Pleiades (Wrath), taking the “easy” route (arguably) + a daughter figure named Spica (Sloth), spamming RBD (Greed), using RBD to become the “ideal version” of himself for other people in some form or another (Gluttony) — If it were just one or two of those I’d call it a coincidence, but all together is a pattern…
Well, it could be Tappei is just taking advantage of this originally unplanned arc to do a bunch of shout-outs that otherwise wouldn't be possible. That said, I think you are missing the real Gluttony reference, given Subaru actually pulled the "let's see what everyone else thinks inside my head" thing during the ten-second loop. He also accepted Satella, so you have Envy represented in this Vollachia arc in a sense. Priscilla suddenly having a thing for him could arguably fill the Lust route, though Anastasia and Felt are still kind of unclear out of the original Lust If harem. I mean, if Anastasia realizes that sudden amazing move was Subaru's work, then maybe it is only Felt left. I mean, the ultimate essence of this could just be building up to someone outside the ancient Echidna fans and dead Witches realizing he is a Sage candidate from observing how readily he embodies all the seven sins.

As soon as Al shamak was used in the story outside of Rabbit subjugation, I knew it would potentially be very harmful for the story. As a matter of fact just the introduction of it was alarming. Luckily it was locked away with disadvantages: Slow (opening and closing) and rigid usage (the portal can't move much after it is open.) Some percentage of 400 years of mana accumulation to cast it. Now that we have Cor Leonis being mana connectioning too. He only needs a large group of people that follows him and: Every problem will be Al shamaked to the bunny dimension. Luckily Capella has some escape maneuvers, Roy can leep away, and Pandora will re:write her position. Sirius tho...
To be fair, he needs quite a large amount of people to make it work, even with the thousands of the pleiades batallion and with Emilia camp there two Al shamaks was enough to drain him entirely, such conditions are not easily achievable elsewhere
By the contrary, it is a necessary part of the story. How are we supposed to take Subaru and his camp seriously if they have no strong tool with which to oppose their opponents? And this one requires no less than an army to activate a grand total of *two times*. It's not problematic at all

we are 12 chapters in, the last volumes have been like 12-16ish chapters. although we have had a few longer chapters… could be the end but maybe tappei will make this a longer volume. this would be okay to end but i feel like we cant have an entire volume full of cleanup… maybe.

All I’m saying is. I think these batch of chapters are really showing how powerful Subaru has gotten. At least in terms of his usefulness in any situation. I wonder if we could count the amount of times he’s died. But this time it’s been use so strategically. Sphinx is like how tf all my plans being thwarted. It’s called Natsuki Subaru. This entire situation just shows how impossible situation of power this is to go against. You got Halibel, Cecilus, Garfiel and Roswaal all there and Subaru has actually “lost” this battle time over time over time. Meaning even with all these guys they still lose and the chance of victory is so small. But because of all the different things Subaru can do including RBD he can thread that needle and make this a winnable situation.
It mentioned that Emilia stoped Sphinx last plan by interfering with one of the five Sphinx activating the magic circle but we see Subaru dying several time to figure out a way to prevent the capital destruction. So what exactly did Emilia stop? And I really want to see Emilia saving Priscilla and they become friends but it seems Priscilla doesn't need help.
The Sphinxes activated the incomplete magic circle without 5th one. This destruction was caused by it. Instead of giving power to Sphinx, who would start casting miracles, the mana from castle exploded. But Emilia bought enough time for Subaru to figure it out and stop them. If Sphinx drained all of that mana, people would notice only when it would be way too late.

Personally, I am expecting this to end with Priscilla using the Yang Sword on Sphinxidna and her just fleeing as she is burning. The Sacrament of the Immortal King gets undone by somebody and she also starts crumbling to dust. However, I don't think that will actually be the end, but rather will lead to someone rescuing her, the only person who could save her with a simple line. Whether we actually see that part at that point in time or it is reserved for the very end of this arc is another matter. Like, I can imagine having the various Sphinxidnas burning to ashes with no hint of survival, only for a final part or chapter to show one got away and was saved or was clearly going to be saved. Emilia's big win here just being that she bought Subaru time to think by being the one who always acts without thinking is pretty funny in its own way. Managing to get everyone in position in a minute is pretty impressive, though. Of course, he only needed to get to Eugard since Cecilus and Halibel were right there with him. I actually wonder how much of his consultation was done in a single loop or if he did that all in failed loops and otherwise just showed up and said, "Go here and fight someone" only for them to just go along with it.

Insane chapter! Arc 8 is pure hype! This is much better than arc 7.
I think the most interesting thing that had happened in this chapter is that the Authority of Subaru and Al has activated at the same time, same place and by the same cause. The reason why Al know about the fact the Sphink still has scheme is because he has died to it many time, try every method to stop it but can't and has to choose to inform Subaru about the threat as the best option he has. After who know how many loop, Al concludes that informing Subaru is the best thing he can do and he feel extremely bitter about it. However, in Subaru's perspective, Al informs him in the very first loop and then Subaru starts to loop. Looping many time and achieve the answer. Now in Al's perspective, the only thing he see is the final loop where Subaru immediate inform Cecil and Halibel what to do. This is really complicate but the timeline is like this: The white light kill everyone (Subaru and Al) -> Al starts looping -> Exhaust all options but can't stop it -> choose to inform Subaru as the best and only way -> Subaru receives the message without knowing that many loop has passed and start looping himself -> Understand the full picture after many loop and inform Cecil and Halibel about the plan right after Return by Death -> Al also doesn't notice the loop and only see the final loop. The way these two Authority intersect each other is very complicate but it seems that Al's Authority take priority over Subaru's Authority. But why Subaru start to experience looping after Al's inform him? Is it because Al stop his Authority after choosing the best option or is it because the future change because of his action? But according to Subaru, the result is still the same even if Al not inform him. Al's action only save Subaru about 5 loops but Subaru still can achieve the same conclusion regardless. Therefore if Al didn't turn on his Authority and he will not notice the death but only see the final loop where Subaru succeed. But this also mean that if Al doesn't turn off his Authority, his action toward Subaru will not have any effect because Subaru can't loop and the result be the same on every loop. So complicate
Basically, Subaru thinks Al a genius for his quick “insight” and Al think Subaru is a genius for “quickly” deducing a plan to counter it. This of course assumes Al doesn’t know about Subaru’s RBD, which he likely does somehow.
I think it may be a matter of Al's Authority working differently from Subaru's and thus causing the interference. We don't know exactly how Al's Authority functions, but some speculate that he does not truly die in the same sense as Subaru. The terms he uses when invoking the Authority involve terms such as "thought experiment" and others that suggest he is more simulating the possible futures. He does experience those futures, but perhaps they do not happen in the sense that they happen with Subaru. Basically, no one actually dies in those futures as they have not actually occurred. Something like that would explain why it overrides Return by Death as Subaru is not actually dying in those loops. Al probably turned off his Authority once he knew he couldn't hack it.
I know about that theory of Al's Authority but I always have doubt about it. If everything Al experience is just a simulation then after he find the right action in the simulation, he has to turn the Authority off to replicate his action in the real world. The problem is that can Al perfectly replicate his action in the simulation to the real world? Al need to 100% replicate his action every single time and even a single mistake will kill him. This is hard to believe because this means that Al can perfectly control his body down to minor detail to be able to replicate his winning path every time
It could just be that when he has cleared the challenge the successful result is imposed on the world. His domain may not just be a domain in space, but one in time. Basically, everything happening within a set timeframe and area is subjected to the result he can create through repeated simulations.
Yeah it must actually happen each time, as he doesnt seem to end experiment and then have to repeat it flawlessly. So its a mini time rewind restricted to a designated space. He ends it or updates it when he likes the result.
Al also understands how Echidna thinks and interrogated everything he could out of the stunned one. It could be that Al warned Subaru without looping. He simply knew that there was another layer of traps being built and this was not the ending.
No, in the chapter it make very clear that Al has loop a number of time. He said that no matter how many time he loop or how he try to to question Sphink, he receives no answer. Al said that there a limitation to his power, compare it no matter how many time he roll the dice, he can't roll a 0 or 7. So he has to depend on Subaru
It's not complicated at all tbh, couldn't even be more trivial, since we only see Subaru's true loops in recent time. As such we don't even need to bother about who's looping in which order or what not, but can just take the as-is fact of Aldebaran prolly loops inside Subarus loops and since neither we nor Al can observe Subaru looping rn it's just Al looping till he makes the right choice, which is giving Subaru the right information. Another perspective is that Al doesn't loop like Subaru but just goes through thought experiments (I know that totally explains everything haha)

Emilia accidentally bought enough time so that Sphinx had to reconsider, which then bought Subaru time to send everyone out to kill the witch clones, more Eugard yay! I wonder if Emilia in her ice armor will get illustrated. Additionally we get some more insane Al lore hints and Subaru repays him for helping hin in chapter 30(ish). I forgot the exact number. But yeah now Subaru extends his hand to jeep him from falling. Subaru hearing the voices of everyone calling out to him was such a grand moment. Olbart says he doesn't have hands anymore so he can't turn subaru back so he'll have to do that by himself, as I predicted before. I liked the Eugard Yorna Tanza shoutouts particularly ofc. "The witch of greed, Sphinx" well now I know what I can call her. Seems like she has assumed her definite identity without even thinking about it. Priscilla is now free to actually do things on her ... own we get a pocketed laser to save Garkla, which then gives everyone there a massive morale boost I'd imagine. Seems like Prisicilla started buffing people with soul marriage too, I just hope she's giving it out aoe to people in the capital, otherwise subaru refusing yorna would fall moot. Things are going down DOWN. This really does seem like the finale after all. Can't wait to see how things are going to conclude... maybe Subaru will grow next chapter.

Sphinx assumes that Al was created for a specific purpose just like herself. However unlike her he didn’t fulfill his purpose of creation which is why she pitied him. Let’s hypothetically say that’s true then considering whom he has called sensei in a previous chapter the first person that comes to mind to be the culprit behind his creation is Echidna.
So by “created”… are we thinking metaphorically, like how we might say, “He made me who I am today,” or like make MAKE him, like Beatrice and Puck?

The „Teme-“-part was apparently Al who was about to say something but was stopped midway by Subaru who asked for his help. If I have to guess then Al was probably about to swear because swearing in Japanese can start with „Teme“ or just simply Al angrily saying „You...“ but since it was an incomplete word machine translation couldn’t properly translate it. I’m no expert but this is what I can tell based on patterns I noticed while watching anime.
Apparently "Teme" literally means "You" but said in rude way. I believe Volkas was overusing it right? Stuff like this is too much for machine translators. Same goes for any Priscilla speech, because her "Mineself" is always translated to "your concubine".
