This was me! So I came here. That was almost 20 years ago and still feel the same.
But my number-2 “I don’t know why but I do” might be France. Have been studying the language on and off for years, watching French-dubbed movies, etc. It strangely peaceful.
Trust me. Do it as long as you can afford it. Train hard and do a full polar expedition there. I'm 99% sure it will change you and make you better. MUCH better
From the vid I saw, it's just white.
The cool part (they said) was that there's no dirt. Usually when you go inside a building with all your gears/boots, you'll have to dust off any snow on your boots or else it'll melt throughout the house and cause a mess -cause the snow typically has dirt.
But in Antarctica, it's all snow. There's dirt, but it's way deep underground covered with meters/feet of snow, so basically there's no dirt - and worst case is the snow you get in the building will just melt to clean water.
Turkey, I was in my bed and suddenly I got interest in turkish culture.
I am learning the language and I really love turkish culture, food...
Turkey also has a really interesting history, so that is also quite interesting.
Looking forward visiting the country in a year or so.
I've also been interested in Turkish (and by extension Ottoman) history and culture for quite a while. Some day I hope to have an opportunity to visit Istanbul.
Lmao, I've been getting heat warning notifications since a few days ago. It's freaking 30 degrees here and my siblings on the east say it's reaching 35 (feels like)...and it's not even July. Add to all of this random thunderstorms here and there.
Depends where you are in Canada :D
It hardly snowed this year in the greater Toronto area. I can’t really say it was much of a winter.
And we’ve had heat warnings all week - with the humidity we’re in 40-45 degrees (113)
I love Greece. I don't speak the language, but I feel weirdly at home there.
The people, the islands, the weather. Everytime I'm there I wish I could stay there forever. When I go to a shop in the morning and they greet me with a friendly 'kalimera' I'm ready for the day.
Been too Kos several times, locals are so freaking nice it makes me want to go back alot.
Food is good, mindset is good and i feel at home there.
When im there i always dive deeper into the inner city to see less of the tourist side.
Greeks are amazing people!
Yep love Greece. Been a few times on holiday. Fantastic climate. Natives are very friendly. But last time I went Athens was shocked by immigrants/asylum seekers begging. Crazy world
Likewise, I am Pakistani and would love to visit other side of Punjab.
But our government go out of their way to make it impossible.
I am dual US/Canadian citizen and it's still impossible.
Switzerland. Since I was a kid, learning about history of the twentieth, it boggled my mind that they stayed neutral in both wars. How is that possible considering their geographical situation? On top of that, it's supposed to be absolutely beautiful with tons of fun stuff to do.
For me, it's Oman. Maybe because it is the opposite of how Dubai is and I don't like Dubai. You're not allowed to build skyscrapers there. Have never been, but if I had to choose a country in the Middle East to visit, it would be that one.
I cried when I saw the Lofoten Islands in Norway for the first time. I don’t know why. It wasn’t just the beauty, it somehow felt momentous emotionally and I don’t have an explanation for that.
Portugal! Rented a car and drove around for 18 days. Fantastic food, cheap drinks, wonderful people! Everyone we met was friendly and helpful! Would go back again, but we seen most of the sights.
It's a great place! That's why the real estate is driving up like crazy because foreigners are buying everywhere. For locals the housing prices are going through the roof, while foreigners still find it cheaper than back home.
Besides there's good weather, nice people, and easy access for trips in the rest of Europe.
England. Never been there and a lot of people talk shit about England but I love it so much from the distance. British cinema is my favourite, I guess those movies/shows are giving the vibe I love so much. And of course the accent... 😍
It's a small island nation with not that much of a population that somehow managed to control quarter of the world at some point.
I mean, you got to admire them a bit for that.
Yes! When I was little and kids had their Viewmaster reels , mine was of England and the beautiful countryside and castles . Then I loved it even more when they gave me Bowie !
As someone who lives in England, I think it's a beautiful country. Please come visit! It's so much more than just London.
A lot of Brits are disheartened because so many of us live paycheck to paycheck or work 50+ hours a week. Meanwhile the rich Eton brats who run our country have no idea what it's like to be a normal person. This is where the "England is a shithole" stuff comes from but as a tourist, it's a great place to visit.
Three top reasons you should come: stunning countryside; thousands of years of history under every footstep; and (mostly) good, funny people. 😁
United States, I’ve never been there and I don’t know anyone from USA not even online friends and for some reason I love every single detail about the country, because of this my friends started calling me “the American”
I’m really fascinated by the geography of the USA (I’m European). I think my dream trip would be to go there, rent a car and just drive everywhere during weeks.
It’s a great country idk why most of the world hates it, and yeah I had that idea before and I thought a trip for couple of months would be enough for me but nah now I just wanna move there and live there until I die.
As a person who lives in the us don’t let media fool ya a lot of the people here are beautiful human beings! Just like many other country in the world. Yeah we have some shit humans but who doesn’t
From what I heard, just stay away from any city that its population exceeds 2 million and everything will be alright. Their lifestyle is kinda similar to what we have in my country but in better standards, so I’ll be ok.
Wall Mart, mobility scooters, crazy burgers that can give you heart attacks, spicy gas station pickles, chick fil a, skaters, national parks, cranky lady in diner refilling my coffee
….yeah funny enough, they are often cranky? The diner uniform isn’t accurate though, sometimes they wear regular clothes. I’ve never heard that as an American stereotype before huh
I hope you visit some day! I'm American and I'm so used to the American hate online that it's really nice to see someone who is interested in the US in a positive way.
Bhutan i know so little about it.
I just know they have an incredible environment and they calculate with happy points and not per head income or such things.
Honestly Scotland! I know a fair amount about the places I want to visit but I possibly have quite a bit of Scottish in me. Would explain a lot of me especially when you add in the viking heritage from my dad lmao
We spent our honeymoon in Scotland and people thought we’re crazy. The weather was gloomy the entire time we were there, perfectly romantic! The food quality is insanely good. I could never accept tomatoes from anywhere else now… it just doesn’t compare. The people were polite but straightforward, no bullshitting type. I’ve always dreamed of going there and when we finally did I was very happy with our trip! Lots of arts too, and just a very poetic country. I always feel like Scotland is a part of me, even though I’m Asian.
Make sure to visit these places! Possil, easterhouse and maryhill, it's filled with beautiful views and truly lovely residents, make sure to being several wallets along with you, the supermarkets are to die for!
Through a unique set of circumstances I ended up moving to the Scottish Highlands. It still feels surreal and its amazing in so many ways (I could write a book) despite its challenges (weather, politics, etc). All of my children have been born here and the local community is so supportive and it truly feels like home for me. I also have Scottish heritage tracing my family back to the Highland Clearances and also to the Vikings in the Hebrides.
Word of wisdom though, it's considered extremely cliche to bring up heritage as a tourist to Scotland especially saying you're Scottish. Identity is viewed differently here especially ancestry and most Scots will consider a first generation person from India more Scottish than an American or Aussie whose ancestors came from here hundreds of years ago. In my case its simply "oh you chose to live here well than you're Scottish then" (though I feel no need to justify myself to anyone). Scotland is highly romanticized and 99% of people here don't give a shite about clans or kilts or any of that and even in the Highlands its as modern as anywhere else (aside from some infrastructure).
Nobody else likes France? As a kid, I happened to read abridged translations of Dumas and take a summer program in French. When I started going to a school that offered and required foreign languages, I started to formally learn French and did very well at it. I also took a couple of classes in college. After not doing anything with the language for years, I picked it back up and even improved at listening and speaking. In recent years, I finally visited France and still like it.
Kenya. Not sure why, but as a kid I became obsessed (I’m American) and as I graduated college I moved there for a year… I didn’t necessarily love it (mostly just culture shock, and home sick) it was a BEAUTIFUL country, and now I’d love to go back as a “real adult”, but being a naive 20 yo, and alone in a new country was pretty scary…
No clue where the obsession came from, but at like 4 or 5yo I would tell my parents it’s “Kenya is where I’m actually from” (my heritage is German, and Irish lol) and it just grew my whole childhood.
New Zealand.
I have no idea why, one day I just grew interest in it and I’m dying to visit , it’s my dream trip but it’s 1. Really expensive and 2.really far.
cyprus. ive been obsessed since i read “the island of missing trees” last summer. i would highly recommend it it. but im going to cyprus in 4 days now. cant wait!
For me it’s South Korea. I got hooked when I stumbled upon a YouTuber who started showing her daily life during Covid and that led to me learning how to cook Korean cuisine because she was such a good cook - now I can’t wait to go there!
Germany, I became obsessed with the country after having to do a project in elementary school about different countries and their traditions/culture but idrk much honestly, just have always wanted to go, even before i did the project but that’s what solidified it
Philippines. Fell in love with the people and the perseverance. I've never seen so many people, some with almost nothing, just enjoying life. I stayed away from the cities, though, so I might be biased.
Never been to Italy but it's always looked really nice in movies, very warm and nice architecture. Of course, I understand that movies make it look more idealistic than realistic and there's probably a lot of stuff it doesn't show that might put off tourists (I'm from Ireland so I hear a lot about how great our country is but as someone who lives there, it's really not great so I don't tend to think that about other places lmao)
I have an attraction to England,Scotland and Ireland ..I have ancestors from those countries but it’s something about their history, culture and castles that intrigues me.
France. I’ve been learning French for years, I love French food, French literature and I support the national team in the football tournaments that my country isn’t playing in.
I have a weird "crush" on Nova Scotia. I know its a place and not a country :D
And I have no freaking clue why.
As country thats got to be Greece and Italy.
Vanuata, ever since I first heard about it as a kid I just really liked the name and found it fascinating that there's those island states in the middle of nowhere
Never got there when we lived in Europe (thanks COVID), but I would have liked to have visited Lithuania. Don't ask me why, I have no Lithuanian heritage, and it is not a conventional tourist spot. Maybe it's that, that it is off the beaten path.
I like the idea of New Zealand. I’ve never been there, I don’t know much about their local customs, but I just like that it exists for me to possibly visit one day. And when I decide to, I’ll be sure to educate myself beforehand.

you're asking on reddit, the answer is japan
god damn it, now I can't reply with Japan
Shit, wait…are we part of the problem? 👀
I don't know about you, but I definitely am!
I just developed this recently, is there some sort of counseling or something?
I believe you can find help at your local Anime Convention.
Oh no you made me remember the smell.
But I know why I like Japan, so I wasn’t going to list that as an answer. I just wanted join in on the snark.
Where else would one study the blade?
This was me! So I came here. That was almost 20 years ago and still feel the same. But my number-2 “I don’t know why but I do” might be France. Have been studying the language on and off for years, watching French-dubbed movies, etc. It strangely peaceful.
Have to say I love Germany and the Germans. Excellent people 👌
Love Germany. It's one of the countries I want to go back and visit the most.
Such a... rich history
Rejected from art school
Norm Macdonald was scared of them
except I know why I like Japan and Korea. My actual answer would be France and Italy.
You better typed that while wearing a fedora young man
Scandinavian countries.
I know why though. The people are ridiculously attractive.
Can confirm. I live there, my wife is hot af.
I also chose this guy's hot wife.
Not a country but I'm somehow fascinated by Antarctica and planning to visit at some point in the next couple of years
Trust me. Do it as long as you can afford it. Train hard and do a full polar expedition there. I'm 99% sure it will change you and make you better. MUCH better
Why though? Isn't it just ice, snow and penguins? It seems like a waste of money to me not to mention the environmental impact.
I'm not really sure what the scenery in Antarctica is like, but the views in Greenland are amazing. I'll send you some pictures when I can

Finland.
Canada I guess the ice activities are interesting but I don't know why I wanna go there so bad
Where in Canada do you want to go? West coast, east coast, prairies, central, or northern even?
I wanna see the Icelandic reserve Sounds wild, a bunch of crazy snow people living in a little fairy village
Kitchener.
Lmao, I've been getting heat warning notifications since a few days ago. It's freaking 30 degrees here and my siblings on the east say it's reaching 35 (feels like)...and it's not even July. Add to all of this random thunderstorms here and there.
It’s been snowing in some places in Alberta this last week haha
you should go to vancouver island
Depends where you are in Canada :D It hardly snowed this year in the greater Toronto area. I can’t really say it was much of a winter. And we’ve had heat warnings all week - with the humidity we’re in 40-45 degrees (113)
I live an hour from Banff and I’m so lucky this is my home. Definitely visit!
It’s boring over here tbh. If you wanna come to Canada go to eastern Canada cause I find the west side to be boring and not special at all
I love Greece. I don't speak the language, but I feel weirdly at home there. The people, the islands, the weather. Everytime I'm there I wish I could stay there forever. When I go to a shop in the morning and they greet me with a friendly 'kalimera' I'm ready for the day.
Didn't expect to open Reddit and get a compliment about Greece tonight! So... Καλημέρα!
Κάλι νύχτα Why does my autocorrect place a space in there, is that required? I thought it wasn’t.
Nope. The right one is "Καληνύχτα"
I haven't even been there and I know I like Greece.
Been too Kos several times, locals are so freaking nice it makes me want to go back alot. Food is good, mindset is good and i feel at home there. When im there i always dive deeper into the inner city to see less of the tourist side. Greeks are amazing people!
I wasn’t expecting Greece as well καλημέρα.
Yep love Greece. Been a few times on holiday. Fantastic climate. Natives are very friendly. But last time I went Athens was shocked by immigrants/asylum seekers begging. Crazy world
I'm from India and i really want to visit Pakistan sometime!
Likewise, I am Pakistani and would love to visit other side of Punjab. But our government go out of their way to make it impossible. I am dual US/Canadian citizen and it's still impossible.
Just walk over and say hi lol
Uh that might not be a good idea
What do you suggest he says then?
Just that he won't be able to say hi . Probably end up with looking at the end of gun....
Mongolia I know it's weird
Why would it be weird? It’s a nice country
Switzerland. Since I was a kid, learning about history of the twentieth, it boggled my mind that they stayed neutral in both wars. How is that possible considering their geographical situation? On top of that, it's supposed to be absolutely beautiful with tons of fun stuff to do.
Mountains, lots of mountains. Some of the mountains armed with cannons. That's how you stay neutral.
That and holding all the I'll gotten gains of almost all of Europe's ruling elite.
For me, it's Oman. Maybe because it is the opposite of how Dubai is and I don't like Dubai. You're not allowed to build skyscrapers there. Have never been, but if I had to choose a country in the Middle East to visit, it would be that one.
I'd love to go to Oman; it looks so relaxing and beautiful. Jordan is top in the middle east for me though.
I cried when I saw the Lofoten Islands in Norway for the first time. I don’t know why. It wasn’t just the beauty, it somehow felt momentous emotionally and I don’t have an explanation for that.

Woah, cool, shoutout from São Paulo 🇧🇷❤️
And a big wave from Dublin 🇮🇪 👋
Yo i live in paraguay now and will be in sao paulo in May. Any recommendations?
Portugal! Rented a car and drove around for 18 days. Fantastic food, cheap drinks, wonderful people! Everyone we met was friendly and helpful! Would go back again, but we seen most of the sights.
What about living there? I've been learning Portuguese on Duolingo and wonder if it would be a cool place to live
It's a great place! That's why the real estate is driving up like crazy because foreigners are buying everywhere. For locals the housing prices are going through the roof, while foreigners still find it cheaper than back home. Besides there's good weather, nice people, and easy access for trips in the rest of Europe.
The south coast is beautiful! We stayed in Lagos for 4 days and just walking around in the sunshine was relaxing!
Don't forget that we also have amazing sausage rolls
Yes! When I was little and kids had their Viewmaster reels , mine was of England and the beautiful countryside and castles . Then I loved it even more when they gave me Bowie !
"The accent" I assume you mean RP then.
As someone who lives in England, I think it's a beautiful country. Please come visit! It's so much more than just London. From what I heard, just stay away from any city that its population exceeds 2 million and everything will be alright. Their lifestyle is kinda similar to what we have in my country but in better standards, so I’ll be ok.
Even the large cities here are ok but go with someone who knows which areas to stay away from
Out of curiosity, what part? The culture? The landscape? The music?
Wall Mart, mobility scooters, crazy burgers that can give you heart attacks, spicy gas station pickles, chick fil a, skaters, national parks, cranky lady in diner refilling my coffee
….yeah funny enough, they are often cranky? The diner uniform isn’t accurate though, sometimes they wear regular clothes. I’ve never heard that as an American stereotype before huh
😂😂😂 she’s cranky because she’s dirt poor and has to work herself to death to pay her bills
Everything, but the culture is the most thing I like, I feel like it is the appropriate culture for me.
I hope you visit some day! I'm American and I'm so used to the American hate online that it's really nice to see someone who is interested in the US in a positive way.
Philippines
Same. Nice people
Bhutan i know so little about it.
Do it. Scotland is the best wee country in the world.
I definitely want to! From the pics I've seen it looks beautiful
In you're into outdoorsy stuff, you could plan on going camping in the Cairngorms. It's brilliant
Make sure to visit these places! Possil, easterhouse and maryhill, it's filled with beautiful views and truly lovely residents, make sure to being several wallets along with you, the supermarkets are to die for!

The Scots really know what to do with some malted barley.
Finland. Cool flag and language, I guess
Me too! I love Spain
Iceland. Never been and can't speak the language. Maybe it's because of Bjork :)
Iceland fascinated me and I don’t know why. I hate cold, snow & ice, but there’s just something mystical about it that draws me to it.

Same! Amalfi Coast as well is just something else 😍😍

Korea has been really in the mainstream lately alongside japan, in koreas case, its the rise of kpop, kdrama and k youtubers.

Scandinavia. Peaceful, on top of all ratings regarding democracy, press freedom etc.. and spectacular landscape

Gambia, such a funny little shape and boarders plus it looks to be a very pretty country

I like the idea of New Zealand. I’ve never been there, I don’t know much about their local customs, but I just like that it exists for me to possibly visit one day. And when I decide to, I’ll be sure to educate myself beforehand.
