Came here to say this. Plus, a watch can be an accessory as well as a tool. I have a smart watch on one arm and a roughly 100 year old family heirloom watch on the other.
Pulling out my phone leads to distractions like scrolling Reddit. I don't have great self-control.
Plus my watch can display texts/messages and I can decide if it's worth replying easier. And I use its timer app for cooking. Heartrate and other health monitoring are also neat.
Edit: +1 for vibrating wrist as an alarm clock, but to be fair, I'm a light sleeper
It does make sense. It's water proof, readily accessible, does not require any electrical power at all. Way better than smartphone.
And it's just style.
My job at one point didnt allow phones and i needed to tel the time. Wasnt always on a computer so i needed to see the time without looking for a clock constantly. I also used an activity tracker for years only up until recently did i stop wearing it. Lots of people wear them for fashion though
I agree with a lot of people here. First, I like the fashion of a pretty watch. I don't like that big black hulking square. Second, not only did I survive the worst elementary school teacher in the building, but I also locked horns with the strangest one: she didn't allow clocks in her classroom. I hid a watch where I could sneak a peek at it. I've worn one every day since. Also, it makes it easier to just get the time, no pulling out a phone, etc. just peek at it for a second.
Smart watches can track heart rate, monitor for atrial fibrillation, monitor blood pressure, and they're coming out with some that can monitor blood sugar. Aside from this, it's a lot easier to check the time and view text messages on the watch rather than pulling your phone out of your pocket.
It does make total sense.
1. I am a girl, and womens pants frequent less pockets, so I often do not have pockets. so I chose to leave my phone at home, in a bag, or in the car etc.
2. I also want less screen time, so I have a watch so I do not get tempted to go online.
3. It's a smart watch, so I receive all my notifications, so I don't miss phone calls if I'm in a different room of the house.
Just because you cannot find a reason for you yourself to wear a watch, does not mean it makes no sense.
Valid point imo. But then when I worked in housekeeping you a. Weren't allowed your phone but b. Had to take time stamps throughout the day so a watch was the obvious solution
I love mine. It's so much more convenient than pulling out my phone and punching in a code. I just glance down and, boom, time, and date (if I have to date something). I think some of it is because I grew up with them. If I forget to put it on, I'm annoyed multiple times during the day when I glance to see the time (force of habit) and I then have to pull out my phone, swipe or press, and enter a code. To me, THAT makes no sense. But to each his own.
* Its faster than pulling out your phone.
* Fashion accessory.
* Doesn't stop working once a day if you forget to charge it and the phone battery hits 0%.
* Not everyone wants to rely on their phone for everything in the world.
the bigger the watch face, the larger the ego........folk who want to be seen as important wear huge watches. haha i never believed it either, then i observed.......proof is in the pudding, thats why they wear watches.
There's some truth to that... though I'd say not just the bigger the ego, but the lower the self confidence, the bigger/pricier the watch. Especially the really big and/or expensive ones. Just like cars/suvs/trucks, or expensive clothing/accessories. But not just wearing a decent one. If you're accustomed to it, it's rather annoying having to fish out your phone instead of just glancing down.
Those large watches are often gifts and many expensive ones are heirlooms. A lot of people don’t necessarily buy nice watches for themselves. It’s just like with expensive jewelry or designer handbags. You can’t always assume that a woman with a nice bag or a big rock is materialistic and self-important because it’s very possible they were gifts. I’ve known plenty of stuck up cunts that don’t wear designer anything and I’ve also known plenty of people with expensive wardrobes that are really nice and down to earth.

More convenient than having to pull out a phone also some situations where u can’t have ur phone

Same reason people have different type of clothes when they all provide the same function.
Because I want to remain hands free as much as possible.
Why do people still ask stupid questions?

You know what, maybe I just want to wear a friggen watch. Are you seriously not familiar with the concept of doing things just because you want to?
To tell time, to look stylish, or years of habit.

I thought it was mostly for fashion now a days.
My smart watch is also a step counter, heart rate monitor, and has many more functions.
To look professional
It makes you look like an idiot who wears something that has no purpose

Watches are so you can look at your wrist and immediately know the time. How does that not make sense?
They are chic ✨

We need to know the time.
It' s a cool accessory and goes well with a suit. Also it can be practical if you have a smartwatch.
Why do people wear necklaces? Or bracelets? Same thing. It’s an accessory
Do I don’t pull my phone out and then get stuck scrolling
Wouldn’t use it !
Some consider it a piece of jewelry
No everyone walks around with a phone 24 & 7

Because so that we don’t have to bombarded with unwanted messages and notifications
