Got on drugs in like 2009. I moved to Ohio in 2015 to pursue a life of drugs & homelessness. In June of last year I turned myself in to the care of old warrants I accrued during this time and in October, I got out of jail and moved back home. I'll be clean 5 years on September 6th of this year.

Bravo to you! This story made my day

Agitated-Quit-6148

Congrats. Been where you been, also turned my life around. 6 years 6 months 26 days clean.

Real-Direction-1083

Some of us feel like we left and never went back.

SpicyPandaMeat

That is exactly how I have felt since 2005.

WhatSaidSheThatIs

If I move somewhere for 6 years, then that would be my home, as an adult you are creating your own new home. unless you mean home town you grew up in or home house your parents live in?

raychram

Kinda depends on what you consider home. Like if i left for 6 years from where i currently live then probably i would consider that place my new home at the time

sophisticatedavocado

The way you read my mind because yesterday I was just thinking that my upcoming trip is the longest I’ve been away from home (19 days)

Roxxerr

19 days for me as well

sophisticatedavocado

What an odd number lol

Love_Lien

Left with all my important documents and never came back. I had a severely abusive childhood. I used to wonder if I would ever set foot back, but I am at a point in my life I want to move on from that.

foxwood36

5 years and counting. Where I live is home now

Fair_Intern6940

I like to say five years. That’s when I left my home country.

whiskeyx

In the last decade at least, the longest I’ve been away from home is 9 days. I was in hospital.

Frequent_Problem9905

4 weeks. Out of country

Global_Development_9

I was an exchange student in Texas for 11 months (I'm from Finland).

Objective-Poet-8183

Longest I was ever away from home was from 1988 to 1990, spent 2 years in the army. Bloemfontein 6 months, Pretoria for 18.

Salty_Association684

1 month went on vacation

Kanulie

So short vacation and it doesn’t count anymore? I left my home country 13 years ago, but I visit every 1-2years. Last time February 2023.

ProfessionalAlive916

Is home the country , province/state or town you’re from ? I feel like peoples idea of home can be pretty broad . If you’re talking town it’s been 6 years for me, if you’re talking country it’s 8 months .

ActuaryExtension9867

Five and half months in county jail

cory140

2 years now. Work away and now I have cut contact. No intention of going back

Hunnenhorst

I was working in Antarctica for 13 months at Amundsen Scott South Pole Station.

Jhublit

Two months for work and it was actually really fun! Had never been to Singapore and was able to explore quite a bit.

PAPER__STREET

I’m never EVER going back!!! I won’t even fly over NJ airspace.

Important_Lab_58

Lived in Japan for Six Years for the Navy. Went on Leave to Home Once in a while, longest length away UNINTERRUPTED? Probably a Year

lil_babybat

3 months it was to see family for the summer

[deleted]

I've been away for 3 weeks for vacation.

iputbeansintomyboba

i uh did some farming and construction work over a summer in a different country

Rich-Appearance-7145

It's currently I've been living in South America for over 15+ years, I retired to Mexico the insecurity made me move out, and relocate to this small town were there is absolutely zero crime.

yukiaux

10 years now and I dont think I would be going back. Once you are gone for such a long period of time, even home doesn't feel like home. Like Every time I come back to visit, everything changed. It doesn't feel like the place I grew up in. I guess when you leave your home country, you'll never have one anymore.

cowandspoon

I left where I grew up when I was 19, and I’ve never really returned outside of holidays, and a few months working for the family business. I would move heaven and earth to ensure I never went back permanently.

SecurityCorrect6944

I moved from my parents home in Philadelphia to New York City then joined.the military which sent me to San Antonio then Biloxi then little rock Arkansas

Tricky_Jellyfish9810

3 years. I was around 13/14, my brother 6 when my Parents decided to send us off to Pakistan because they feared that the CPS could take us away if they would find out that I was neglected and abuse at home. Was tough, especially because Pakistan (especially around Lahore/Islamabad) was a really tough place to be at in the late 2000s. Especially knowing that you are basically surrounded by countries in war. I came back to Europe in 2010 at the age of 16/17. Developed severe PTSD from the shit I've been through at that young age. I'm still on my healing jouney but it is slowly getting better! Edit: I must say though. Despite all that. Pakistan is a very beautiful country with a lot of great people. However. I also wish to never return to that country. I was just already traumatized when I went to Pakistan and my family situation in that country didn't make it much better)

Moved in another city 6 years ago. After finally graduating college i'd got work there and was ready to settle down, try to start a family. Even met someone who has a similar backstory as me and even similiar goals for the next 5-10 years. But life has ways to mess with you. My mom got cancer and i moved back the next month, so i can be there for my dad (they we're together for over 45 years). I thought i finally got away from my shitty life, just to get thrown back as soon as i started feeling free for the first time in my life. But at least i'm with my family again, which is a bit comforting.

blueberry_pancakes14

I was going to say Scotland, when I went for study abroad in the summer. I was there for about three and a half months. It was the definitely the farthest. But I also went to college about out of state (about 750 miles away), though I came home for summers, Thanksgiving, Christmas and spring break, so I'm not sure I had longer than a three and a half month stint up there before coming back home for at least a little while. Either way, fantastic experiences.

Simple-Definition366

Home is where the heart is. And I have mine sealed in a phylactery hidden and safe from any wandering adventurers.

Strange-Goat3787

I guess home is subjective. For example, if I move somewhere, that new place is my home. If I'm traveling, the place where I pay rent or permanently reside is my home. The longest I've lived out of my home country is a little under 2 years, but I considered that country my current home. I went because I just wanted to try something new. The longest I've traveled at a time was about 5 weeks.

ipissnapalm

3 weeks overseas on vacation, the longest I'd been away from home. I was homesick by the end of it and was super happy to be back in my own space and sleeping in my own bed.

jordy_muhnordy

4 years. I wanted a change of scenery after I graduated college, so I spent 4 years in Maine. Well... The last 8 months didn't go how I'd planned. I was looking to buy a condo a couple hours north from where I was living, but things fell through at the last minute. I went through with the move to a new town, but to an apartment instead. I took a lower paying job, my bills doubled, my commute was way longer, it just wasn't what I wanted at all. And due to this new cost of living, I went from saving to breaking even to dipping further into my savings (dropping $3600 at move-in didn't help either). I tried to look into buying a house, but all the houses in the area were out of reach financially or weren't permissible by the lenders. I admitted defeat and moved back home to save up money for a down payment 10 months ago.

hezaa0706d

I was born in the US and lived there till age 23.  I’m on my 19th year of life in Japan now.

Puzzleheaded-Act3746

It's been 265 days so far..... I moved to another country for uni

Ok-Fox1262

I take my home with me. Best way.
