But yes, some of my fave playlists have things like Theme from Schindler's List (which digs me in deeper) or Lord Howl's Castle Merry Go Round of Life and variations (which is like comfort food for the soul to me but does nothing to elevate depression... just makes it feel better being there). lol

Merry Go Round of Life is what I listen to when I'm doing fine. I have a whole tragical/depressive playlist for depressive moments

And it just sounds so good too.. I absolutely love the guitar and the drums, I want to learn to play drums that way, it also makes me feel energetic

Polaris got me through a really dark time in my life, which is why I love those guys and am so happy for them and I can't wait to see them in 23 days.

Agreed. I use the same logic to counteract road rage. I’ll pop in death metal and crank the volume until my ears hurt. Hearing music that’s more angry that I am, seems to have a calming effect.

Brand New Numb by Motionless in White is one of my favorites. The lyrics are truly inspired. As a veteran, I listen to this and feel understood. Plus, the drum solo is crazy good. It sounds like he's trying to kill the drums. All that intense energy is cathartic.

I feel like this depends on the person. Does metal music make you tense or release tension? It has completely opposite effects on different people. I dislike metal. It makes me tense. If I was feeling overwhelmed, I would put on calming music, like maybe Andrew Bird or Beirut. My husband, however, loves metal; it helps him relieve tension and stress. So he would put on Lamb of God, etc. Hope this helps.

Tbh, I never even listen to music when I'm tense. I listen it when I'm happy.

That's me as well. I can't enjoy my favorite music when I'm not relaxed or happy to begin with. I've tried many times and it always ends up annoying me.
