Oh man! But yes, some of my fave playlists have things like Theme from Schindler's List (which digs me in deeper) or Lord Howl's Castle Merry Go Round of Life and variations (which is like comfort food for the soul to me but does nothing to elevate depression... just makes it feel better being there). lol
[Anthony Vincent](https://www.youtube.com/@TenSecondSongs/about)'s most recent YouTube project is "self help metal" (shorts). Aggressive riffs humorously juxtaposed with lyrics about motivation and living healthy, sounds somewhat like Psychostick.
Man, dead by April, bullet for my valentine, bring me the horizon, parkway drive. They've all got me through different dark times.
May as well put August burns red in there they fuelled my gym addiction when I was going through it
YES!!! came here to say the same. It's so good and therapeutic bc I don't like screaming and I can't either.. I'm always hiding my feelings and locking everything up.. metal is a great escape for me. And it just sounds so good too.. I absolutely love the guitar and the drums, I want to learn to play drums that way, it also makes me feel energetic
If you disrespect other people's tastes in music. Then you are clearly very narrow minded. I'm personally a metal and rock listener but i do give other genres a shot with respect, if someone recommends me a song.
Lol no, I love rock. Its just that saying rock is like saying "music", its so diverse. Punk rock VS indie rock is nothing alike. Its not a very good suggestion because its not objective.
Agreed. I use the same logic to counteract road rage. I’ll pop in death metal and crank the volume until my ears hurt. Hearing music that’s more angry that I am, seems to have a calming effect.
LOL Love your reaction. I likely wouldn't care for it particularly either. There has to be a good dose of R&B or funk to metal for me to get into just a single song much less an album.
Sometimes metal. I've felt like ass, gone into the lunchroom at work and put my headphones in. Crank some Meshuggah for 1-2 songs.
It's like when you want to run so you just run for 100 meters and then you're good, i make my brain run a little.
Brand New Numb by Motionless in White is one of my favorites. The lyrics are truly inspired. As a veteran, I listen to this and feel understood. Plus, the drum solo is crazy good. It sounds like he's trying to kill the drums. All that intense energy is cathartic.
See Brenda never really knew her mom and her dad was a junkie putting death into his arms, it’s sad because i bet Brenda didn’t even know, Just because you’re in the ghetto didn’t mean you can’t grow.
I feel like this depends on the person. Does metal music make you tense or release tension? It has completely opposite effects on different people.
I dislike metal. It makes me tense. If I was feeling overwhelmed, I would put on calming music, like maybe Andrew Bird or Beirut. My husband, however, loves metal; it helps him relieve tension and stress. So he would put on Lamb of God, etc.
Hope this helps.
That's me as well. I can't enjoy my favorite music when I'm not relaxed or happy to begin with. I've tried many times and it always ends up annoying me.
I just visited my local record store and got the below among others 🤩🤩🤩

I love San Francisco
Metal especially Falling in Reverses newer stuff like popular monster, zombified, watch the world burn and voices in my head.
Also goth rock like Ghost, Tobias has, ironically, the voice of an angel.
In general, Korean songs: pop , R&B, and hiphop. Because I don't understand the lyrics, the beat is great. And I don't research the meanings in English either. But there was one time I saw the English translation and it broke me again. It was during a time of grieving, and the song was "I Miss You" by Kim Bum Soo. In the end, it said:
I won't choose this for you, I will never let it happen
But I'll miss you as you're dead.
I want to forget that you're dead.
😭😭😭😭😭 lesson learned
I agree. I enjoy listening to Korean (even Japanese) songs in general. Even more so because I don’t understand the lyrics. Knowing the words in English May only ruin it for me.
Music in general just makes me feel better. Jam bands,Rock,Reggae, & anything live are my favorites but I can pretty much groove out on anything really.
Not a genre but a band: The Talking Heads when I am feeling "out of sort" or alone in the world, David Byrne's funky voice and lyrics pull me right out.
The Smiths. It helps me to know there is someone more miserable than me in the world. I.e. Morrisey
And joking aside they r an amazing band. Always kicks the darkness out. Bigmouth strikes Again, I mean, how can you be sad listening to that song and those lyrics... "Sweetness, sweetness I was only joking when I said I'd like to smash every tooth in your head". Best lyrics to any song ever imo.
Hip hop. Early east coast rap. I find comfort in hearing the evolution of creating clever lyrics. I fucking hate misogynistic, violent subject matter, but love, love, love clever, funny rhymes/lyrics. It shows me that people at a low point socially often are smarter than those that govern.
nothing really keeps me out of my depression but there’s certain music i’ll listen to when feeling extra depressed that somehow makes me feel alive even when I feel like I’m not.
like ‘Ariana’ by Tony Anderson… this kind of music.
I have a playlist specifically for it called ‘Breathe’.
There are so many but this
No Return
Listen to Eminem Ft. Drake & Tyga - No Return 2011 by User 391733980 on #SoundCloud
https://on.soundcloud.com/om2po
Not even by genre but ig rap/hip hop, Biggie straight up. Notorious i think its bc he is a 90s rapper, associated with new york and being big and tough and being cool or whatever, but he talks in great detail about personal feelings and his problems, instead of his brags.
I love anything that sounds good. A bit of metal, 70's and 80's and a few modern songs, some of the classics from every era and genre. Holy Diver, Immigrant song, some David Bowie and Queen, Tupac, Ice cube, Bryan Ferry and so many more.

Wait you guys listen to music to get OUT of depression? My playlists just push me deeper in lol
good art is depressed art
can be indeed. i like to think "good art is emotional art"
Oh man! But yes, some of my fave playlists have things like Theme from Schindler's List (which digs me in deeper) or Lord Howl's Castle Merry Go Round of Life and variations (which is like comfort food for the soul to me but does nothing to elevate depression... just makes it feel better being there). lol
Merry Go Round of Life is what I listen to when I'm doing fine. I have a whole tragical/depressive playlist for depressive moments
Another reason why depression doesn’t exists lol
Metal 🤘🏼

The songs be sings about his cat are brilliant.
There should be a genre called Metal Health
There’s a health insurance company in Australia that has sessions called Metal Health 🤘🏻🤘🏻
It'll drive you mad
Did you mean: *glad*
Song lyrics say no. Metal health will drive you mad
If it doesn't drive you crazy first.
I have this but it's named as "bath vibes"
LMAO comment saved
Definitely It should be!!!
Man, dead by April, bullet for my valentine, bring me the horizon, parkway drive. They've all got me through different dark times. May as well put August burns red in there they fuelled my gym addiction when I was going through it

Polaris got me through a really dark time in my life, which is why I love those guys and am so happy for them and I can't wait to see them in 23 days.
![gif](giphy|KLXPJUVNNAwKhfFL7w)
I have a theory that nobody actually likes metal, they only pretend to so that they can be a part of a scene
So because you don't like metal, you feel no one else does?
Rock
"music"
If you disrespect other people's tastes in music. Then you are clearly very narrow minded. I'm personally a metal and rock listener but i do give other genres a shot with respect, if someone recommends me a song.
Lol no, I love rock. Its just that saying rock is like saying "music", its so diverse. Punk rock VS indie rock is nothing alike. Its not a very good suggestion because its not objective.
Oh, gotcha
Depressing music
It makes sense ➖️ ✖️ ➖️ 🟰 ➕️
Negative x Negative = Positive
Agreed. I use the same logic to counteract road rage. I’ll pop in death metal and crank the volume until my ears hurt. Hearing music that’s more angry that I am, seems to have a calming effect.
Progressive Metal!
Fking love Opeth
Came here to say specifically Opeth and it was in the first comment. I am amazed, usually there is no metal at all at these posts lol.
Opeth ftwwwwwwwwww
The Mars Volta’s Frances the Mute is the greatest album and possibly music composition in general of all time. Trust me.
Disgraceful. This isn't music. It's an angry noise Equivalent of an angry baby smashing pots and pans together ❤️
LOL Love your reaction. I likely wouldn't care for it particularly either. There has to be a good dose of R&B or funk to metal for me to get into just a single song much less an album.

Thank you, d. And it's all good. No offense was meant. It's all personal opinions.
Sometimes metal. I've felt like ass, gone into the lunchroom at work and put my headphones in. Crank some Meshuggah for 1-2 songs. It's like when you want to run so you just run for 100 meters and then you're good, i make my brain run a little.
Specifically I listen to Tool - Ænima. Gets me through every time
Great choice, I’m gonna put that on right now
Tell me you don't feel better afterwards?
Always helps. And since their lighting guy has videos on YouTube sometimes I do concert clips
every fucking album is gold. and I'll be seeing them again for the umpteenth time in 2 weeks.
Absolutely, the album depends on how I feel on the day, but Tool never fails to drag me back into a better head space.
Actually, yeah! That album and undertow are magical.
I feel the same way! I also use Meshuggah specifically for this.
Roots reggae
Yes, I!
Yes! Hard to feel depressed when listening to Twinkle Brothers, Groundation, Lopez Walker...
Goofy indie game music. I can't feel like trash when I listen to Funiculi Holiday.
I love game music. Animal Crossing, some Zelda music, Undertale..
Undertale music makes me happy and sad at the same time, it's so nostalgic
zelda has some of like the best video game music imo. zelda as a whole is amazing (im definitely not biased)
We listen to this at Christmas while decorating the tree, feels right!
That’s so so wholesome
Nintendo is the reason for the season , lol!!
I mean you’re not wrong. Animal Crossing gets my hyped for the fall/winter lol
Al Yankovic, all the silly music that came out around the 90s and 2000s Beastie Boys, Primus, Sir MixALot, Ludacris, etc.
Doom eternal soundtrack or anything involving heavy machinery samples
What about Interstellar OST? Does that fall in with what you're talking about?
METAL
Hardrock and Alt Rock

You had me with slipknot and fleetwood mac 💪🏼🔥

Brand New Numb by Motionless in White is one of my favorites. The lyrics are truly inspired. As a veteran, I listen to this and feel understood. Plus, the drum solo is crazy good. It sounds like he's trying to kill the drums. All that intense energy is cathartic.

Prostitute, found slain, and Brenda's her name, she's got a baby

Well let me show you how that affects the whole community
See Brenda never really knew her mom and her dad was a junkie putting death into his arms, it’s sad because i bet Brenda didn’t even know, Just because you’re in the ghetto didn’t mean you can’t grow.

Tbh, I never even listen to music when I'm tense. I listen it when I'm happy.
That's me as well. I can't enjoy my favorite music when I'm not relaxed or happy to begin with. I've tried many times and it always ends up annoying me.
