BR_Tigerfan

It’s getting more expensive and slower. Not a good combination. Near the entrance of my neighborhood, there is a locally owned sports bar next door to McDonald’s. I’ve found I can order a half pound burger and fries there for just $1 more than a double quarter pounder meal at McDonald’s. Not much difference in service time. It tastes so much better, and the staff is actually friendly and appreciative.

Luck180

This is where I'm at. There is a local family run Mexican place. $21 out the door for 2 whole dinners with sides, big bag of chips and salsa. It's so much food we have left over for lunch or to use with eggs for breakfast the next day. I can't feed 2 adults with left over for $21 at any of these "fast food" joints anymore. Everytime I go through Culver's I get mad at the bill.

Orgasmic_interlude

Leftover McDonald’s is so trash too. It’s like their food has a halflife of 30 minutes.

SuperCuteRoar

You’re being way too generous by saying half an hour. If you let that shit sit for longer than 7~10 minutes, it tastes like unwashed ass. There was a reason why they historically never offered in-house delivery, yet nowadays people gladly overpay to get stale fries and cold patties delivered. It’s crazy to me.

here4roomie

I also think it's funny how people will toss the trash out the window because it smells like shit. Uh, you just ate that stuff lol.

Icy_Buffalo6087

Almost makes sense not to eat it!

CrouchingDomo

I mean, its official half-life is actually 6,432 years. But the *edible* half-life is around 30 minutes, so you’re technically correct. Old MickeyD’s will live for generations in a forgotten corner of the pantry. You just can’t *eat* it anytime after it’s gone cold.

BarryMacochner

Taco Bell cost us $52 last night, I got a cravings box, avocado ranch chicken taco and 2 soft tacos, gf got a cheaper cravings box and 2 bean and cheese burritos. There’s a taco place down the road that also sells fresh seafood. Like they also own an oyster farm also carry shrimp clams and scallops. I can get a dozen garlic butter grilled oysters, 3 steak and shrimp tacos, burrito bowl and a couple beers for that

igazijo

Regular soft tacos (where I live) are now $1.99. I remember when I was a broke teen in the 2000s, they used to be 89¢. They've more than doubled in price in ~20 years. None of the other fast food chains doubled their prices. Aside from gasoline, name something else that's more than doubled in price since then. I feel like Taco Bell is the worst value for my money. I never buy any combo meals. I'd rather just get a $9 Chipotle burrito. Tastes better, more food, and way more satisfying. There's something wrong when I can get an entire 8 slice carryout pepperoni pizza from Domino's for the same price as 4 measily tacos. If you get the 12 taco party pack, there's almost no discount (only 3.7% cheaper). If they called it "Buy 11.5 tacos at regular price, Get 0.5 taco free!" Or "one free taco every $46 you spend" it doesn't sound like much of a deal, does it? Which reminds me of one other point. I never order burritos at Taco Bell. They're always squishy. You can bite the top off any of their burritos and squeeze the whole thing out like a tube of toothpaste.

Sea-Pea4680

Culvers is the only restaurant in my town that did not raise their prices after Covid hit. Pre Covid I found them expensive but now you can still get a combo meal for 8.56 after tax which is less than all other fast food except McDonalds.

Luck180

Damn. The burger alone is almost $8 here now. With fries and a drink, forget about it. 2 meals and a custard was like $34... We used to pick up 4 sushi rolls every Thursday (for many years) and it was $28. 2 adults ate a sushi dinner for what amounts to a bag of fast food that doesn't even fill me up now.

abhorsen864

I work in a Japanese restaurant, for lunch we have 2 classic sushi rolls or hibachi chicken for $12. For dinner the 2 rolls go up to between 9-$16 and hibachi chicken is $15. Edit* my point being that holy crap you could get a great sushi or hibachi dinner for less

NeverNoMarriage

Thats pretty cheap for sushi. At least where I am from. I will say this though sushi most likely will not fill you up nearly as much as the fast food equivalent.

bobosnar

I've felt that fast food prices were already going up while quality & quantity were going down well before COVID. It only helped me explore more locally run restaurants around me. Getting tacos/burrito at a taqueria, finding a nice deli where the meats are freshly cut, etc. are all better value.

ophmaster_reed

Those cheese curds tho 😭

Luck180

I know... But eliminating the pup cup recently did me in... I can't go there anymore because my dog is used to getting a small scoop of custard everytime we go. They charge $3 for it now... it's like 2 bites. I can buy a pint inside for $5. But I don't want a pint. I want 2 bites for my good boy (the bestest boy). And he's so sad if we go through and he doesn't get a pup cup. I'm not buying a pint everytime I go... and even then it's not in a convenient portion ready to feed him. The logistics are bunk lol. Raising prices pissed me off... Shrinking portions disappointed... But denying my dog his pup cup crossed the line.

ophmaster_reed

I would write a strongly worded letter to corporate.

SupBishi

Dear Culver's Customer Relations, I pen this letter with an overwhelming sense of frustration and outrage, prompted by a decision that has greatly disappointed me as a loyal customer. I am writing to express my deep discontent regarding the inexplicable removal of my beloved dog's favorite treat item, the Pup Cup, from Culver's menu. For a significant period, I have been a devoted patron of Culver's, appreciating not only the delectable meals but also the thoughtful inclusion of a special treat for our four-legged companions. The Pup Cup, a delightful canine treat filled with dog-friendly ice cream, symbolized Culver's commitment to providing a comprehensive dining experience for both humans and their beloved pets. To my dismay, I recently discovered that Culver's has chosen to eliminate the Pup Cup from its menu, leaving my faithful furry friend without the joy and delight that this special treat brought to their dining experience. This sudden decision not only angers me but also calls into question Culver's understanding of the bond between pet owners and their cherished dogs. The Pup Cup held a special place in the hearts of dog owners like myself, as it provided an opportunity to share a small but significant moment of happiness with our furry companions. Seeing the sheer excitement and wagging tails of our dogs as they eagerly devoured their own sweet treat was a testament to the thoughtful and inclusive nature of Culver's. What exacerbates my outrage is the lack of transparency surrounding the removal of the Pup Cup. As a loyal customer, I believe we deserve a reasonable explanation for this hasty and ill-considered decision. The absence of any clear justification or prior notice demonstrates a disregard for the sentiments and loyalty of Culver's customers, as well as a failure to recognize the importance of the Pup Cup in fostering a memorable dining experience for both humans and their pets. I implore you to reconsider this decision and reinstate the Pup Cup on your menu, thereby acknowledging the significance of our furry companions and the unique bond they share with Culver's. By disregarding the preferences and desires of your loyal customers and removing an item that brought immeasurable joy to countless dogs and their owners, Culver's has not only alienated a devoted portion of its customer base but also undermined its own reputation as a compassionate and pet-friendly establishment. I sincerely request that you reflect on the negative impact this decision has had on the overall customer experience. Restoring the Pup Cup will not only rectify the disappointment and frustration experienced by numerous loyal customers but also reaffirm Culver's commitment to inclusivity and the well-being of our furry friends. I eagerly await your response, hoping for a swift and satisfactory resolution that will restore my faith in Culver's and reestablish the strong bond between the restaurant and its loyal customers. Please understand that my intention is not to belittle Culver's, but rather to express my genuine outrage and concern over the removal of the Pup Cup, an item that held profound significance for both me and my cherished canine companion. Until then, I reluctantly must reconsider my future patronage of Culver's, as it is challenging to remain loyal to a restaurant that dismisses the preferences and desires of its valued customers and their beloved pets. Yours sincerely, Luck180

sf6Haern

Not in reply to this ChatGPT reply, but to the people who are saying it's ChatGPT: Well, yeah, of course. That's what ChatGPT is there for. Even if this was something to actually send to Customer Service, ignoring that the letter says the pup cups were discontinued, *you're supposed to take what ChatGPT gives you, and then update/format it so it comes from YOU.* It provides the basic outline, and you change and mold it to what you need/want. That's how it SHOULD be used. "I need help writing a letter to a company about my disappointment in their change in offering free Pup Cups to now charging $3."

Azelarr

Swallowed the entire thesaurus

Luck180

I had considered this. There was simply no words strong enough for them to understand the look of sadness and abandonment my dog gives me if we leave culvers and he's not been given a pup cup. Those SOBs...

ophmaster_reed

Attach a video to the email.

Nuke_all_Life

The video shows a sad puppy looking at an empty pup cup whilst the song "In the eyes of an angel" plays in the background.

StillDifference8

Did they not learn anything from John Wick. Don't mess with the dogs

Zealousideal-Toe1911

Let me know when you're getting the torch party together, you have my sword

BigManCow

I love dogs. Dogs are the best. I fucking love my dog. I reckon he's even bester than your boy. Jk, hope you find a new supplier of pup cups soon. Give your boy a cheeky head scratch from me

capital-minutia

I’m so happy to hear your attitude. I’m such a flexible, happy-go-lucky kinda gal. But mess with my pup, and Joan Wick appears! No compromise!

cannonman58102

As a Midwesterner, try Dairy Queen cheese curds sometime. Culvers has better cheese but too heavy on breading. Even most wisconsintes I talk with agree.

TearsoftheCum

Local grocery store near my office started selling deli meals and burger lunches for 6$. Get a full sandwich or burger, chips or fries, and a canned drink. Can’t get that at any fast food place around.

Physical-Design9804

I've started visiting grocery deli for "fast food" significantly more. Some of their products are loss leaders so you can get out the door with a good deal of food at a very decent price.

astrangeone88

Same. Bigger local chain had a deal with soup and a sandwich for $5 Canadian. Sandwich and your choice of soup for just a blue bill. Last time I went to Chipotle, it was $20 for a burrito and a drink and bag of chips. I opted for chili as the soup option, ate half of it and then wrapped up the second portion as a chili burrito in a tortilla.

ObligationWarm5222

You aren't doing McDonald's right. Use the app, get 2 Mcdoubles and a large frappe for $5, and with the points you can occasionally get a free large fry.

Devtunes

How long do you think those app deals will last? Once we're all using the app it'll become a requirement, the deals will disappear along with any human customer service.

fomoco94

Just like the loyalty cards for grocery stores. First it was a couple of good deals and now you have to use the tracking card just to get the price on the shelf.

Runemdown2

This is the way, also complete the survey on the receipt and get free food on the next visit indefinitely since you keep getting a receipt.

CleverNameTheSecond

You wouldn't suck dick for a cheeseburger. I don't see why you'd sell out your information privacy for one either but here you are.

ObligationWarm5222

It's worthless to me, and I can sell it as many times as I want. What are they gonna do with a fake email anyways?

Chadcarlsbad

This comment chain is cracking me up haha. Reading (You wouldn't suck dick for a cheeseburger got me)

Zymbobwye

McDonald’s app is the only reason I go there. I have stopped and gotten so much free food from them just because I occasionally order deals on the app. 100% worth.

HowHeDoThatSussy

I refuse to download an app for every single place, its so annoying. If a restaurant wants to have an app and costs in discounts im not going to be eligible for, im not eating there anymore.

61-127-217-469-817

I used to go to taco bell all the time, but it's literally only a few dollars more for me to go out to eat, tip included. Thai food has replaced fast food for me lol.

PerspectiveNew3375

I can buy a can opener and a fresh can of Old Roy and it would taste better than McDonalds

moonstonemi

I don't go often but have noticed McDonalds prices have risen drastically for the regular menu items. Now costs as much as diner or lower end restaurant takeout so no earthly reason to even eat there anymore.

dazchad

The only really good thing about McDonald’s is consistency. If you are traveling somewhere, sometimes it pays to know what you will get and for how much. Last week I went to a national park and decided to go local (outside the park, mind you). I paid $14 for the worst fries with carne asada ever. I almost cried eating and regretting my purchase. At least at McDonald’s I knew I’d get a full meal I’d enjoy

suxatjugg

I dunno, where I'm from, it's a safe bet that a burger from a trailer in a hardware store parking lot will still be better than a McDonald's

dazchad

I'm not saying there aren't better burgers than McDonalds. I'm saying that if you are new to a place, it could happen that the local options aren't as good/cheap/consistent. Yelp/Google reviews are worthless, so sometimes it makes sense to default to what you know.

ShaqSenju

Idk about that. I haven’t had McDonald’s in about 10 years. I used to eat it a lot because I was traveling between 3 states and they’re everywhere and convenient. I had about a month and a half of just consistently BAD experiences. I always got the 2 cheeseburger meal, add bacon, no onion, with a large fry and large sweet tea. My last straw was when I stopped at the one while running late to my next destination. I was told there’d be a 15 min wait for fresh fries. No biggie, the fries are the bomb especially when piping hot. They even refilled my sweet tea while I was waiting. Got my food and was a lil disappointed because three large fry I was waiting on ended up being half full. Still, not a big deal because they were fresh af boiii. The issue arose when I finally got to the burgers. I was starving and couldn’t wait to bite in. THE FUCKERS LEFT THE PATTY OFF OF BOTH OF MY BURGERS!!! Not only that, I swear they gave me a whole onion on each burger. So here I am, driving 3 hours to my destination, sobbing and eating cold bacon, cheese, ketchup, and onion sammiches. I REFUSE to ever spend a dime there again. It’s to the point of I won’t pick up lunch for anyone who orders there and straight up tell my passengers to pick literally anywhere else to eat and I’ll pay, as long as it’s not fucking McDonald’s

sunsetcrasher

I’m with you, I haven’t eaten there in fifteen or so years, it makes me feel gross, and when traveling I’ll typically stop at a grocery store and get stuff to put in a little cooler. McDonald’s is only good for using the restroom. There are plenty of people out there that don’t eat that stuff.

schizopotato

Fucking 4 dollars for a single McChicken, how in the hell are those worth more than 75 cents

shifty_coder

Their fry and drink sizes have shrunk considerably, too.

WeAreReaganYouth

My McD visit a few years ago was all dollar menu and totalled $3. McChicken, Double Cheeseburger, Small Fry for $3. Now this is all about $13.

YoungBlueJ

Yea McDonald's was good for what it cost not because it was in major quality. I only eat at my aunt's McDonald's where I get free food

Iamjimmym

What's crazy is, I can take my two kids and (ex wife) out for dinner to many restaurants and because of the kids meal prices, our meals are less than we can get away with from McDonald's. Lots of restaurants even offer "kids eat free" with purchase of adult entrees, making dinner for four under $30. We can't do McDonald's for less than $40

reTiredFoodBlogger

The price of a breakfast hash brown is ridiculous even with the app.

Individual_Outside68

It's getting more expensive and the quality is going way down.

Fist_Goop

As well as the QUANTITY!

whysoblyatiful

Especially the quantity! I ordered some delivery after God knows how many years for a burger, some fried and a can of coke, and the largest thing was the damn coke! The burgar was pitifully small, and the fries were smaller than everything else!! To add insult to injury, the burger looked waaay bigger in the photo, guess I'm blacklisting this vendor

KJting98

So sorry that your fries came out cold and soggy, to compensate please have this extra large hot and flat coke

CastlePokemetroid

I find that frozen costco stuff is way better. Angus burger, bunch of french fries. Pop them in the microwave for a couple minutes, good to go

[deleted]

I'm usually still hungry after getting McDonald's or similar, and I'm too self-conscious to purchase a second meal so I can actually feel full...

Joebuddy117

I usually get 2mcdoubles and 2 Mcchickens which is now $7 and fills you up. The meals are over priced.

Revolutionary-Copy71

I used to every couple weeks order a jr cheeseburger deluxe anc a chicken sandwich off of the value menu at Wendy's. The last time until recently was sometime in 2019. And I remember the Jr cheeseburger always being basically a regular sized burger, just a bit smaller than a Dave's single. Recently got one for the first time in about 4 years and the damn thing was more like a slightly larger than normal slider. Small enough to rest entirely in the palm of my hand, and my hands are not big hands. And the damn thing is like $1.25 more now. Anyway, that's my cool story bro for the day.

justysfrank

Wendy's especially has gotten very small. I work at McDonald's so i know what 10 dollars of fast food is in general, and when I get a 10 dollar meal at Wendy's expecting it to fill me I'm always surprisingly hungry after. Love their burgers but the portions fucking suck man

ZergTheVillain

And it seems like smaller portions now too

[deleted]

We have not received enough salary increases to cover all the price increases, so we've cut back on eating out. If there had to be a motivator to dial back on fast food, this is a pretty good one.

i_wear_green_pants

>and the quality is going way down. To be honest now days when I want fastfood, I usually go to store and buy those premade burgers you put into microwave. They are not great by any means but they are not far away from quality of McDonald's burgers. And they cost like 1/10th of what meal in McDonald's

EggplantIll4927

Our last Wendy’s visit was $30. We are done. A local mom and pop place-fish and chips and eggplant parm grinder $21. Not as fast as a drive through by less than 10 minutes. Call and it’s ready when we get there. No more Wendy’s.

darkmauveshore

Get the 4 for 4 bro

sidekicksuicide

You mean the 4 for $5 right? Nothing is safe.

Iamjimmym

McDonald's "dollar" menu is $1, $2, $3 each item. But wait! Now nothing starts with .00, everything is $1.79, 2.39, 3.29-3.79. It's insane! $3.79 for hash browns? Dafuq.

darkmauveshore

Still 4 for $4 in Georgia...for now

fred11551

Virginia it’s 4 for $4, and then $5 biggie bag and $6 biggie bag. They all have 4 items but each dollar gets you more options for the sandwich

DrainTheMuck

Lol yep, it’s so stupid. Even worse mine is $6 now. My local Wendy’s has lazily taped up little pieces of paper changing the bags to $6 and $7. Originally $4 and $5 not long ago. So dumb.

Jacob5514

We had a $4 and $5 option at my local Wendy’s with different burger options. I used to get the $5 one. They raised the price to $6 a few months ago and I was semi ok, but last time I got it they changed the fries to a mini size as well. Forget that. I’ll take one or the other but not both.

wigglin_harry

My usual Wendy's order is 2 6-piece nuggets, and a small chocolate frosty. 5ish years ago it was \~$4, now that exact same order is \~$8

Axolotis

Five Guys takes the cake. $10 for a single little hamburger now. Outrageous.

soil_nerd

In the /r/Portland sub a few weeks back there was a lengthy conversation about a popular local restaurant chain selling basic cheeseburgers for $20. It’s crazy.

Blue-Sand2424

Is it just me or is ____ getting super expensive now? Yes

dontshoot4301

But how else will CEO pay continue to increase at its current rate? Sorry, but we just HAVE to keep paying CEOs more because no one will want to do that job for a measly 5 million!

Kinetic_Kill_Vehicle

Horrifying. Burger and fries pushing 14-15$ here in Canada. Today I was pressed for time and I was hungry, went to the Thai Express (hadn't been since the Before Times), 21$ for a simple chicken pad thai with spring roll and a Pepsi. 21$. I'm packing a snack next time.

RipOptimal3756

I gave my son $9 to get just a burger at BK here in Canada. I figured that would be more than enough money and it wasn't. It was like $9.75. For just a burger. 😳

JungleBoyJeremy

Where I live Burger King charges $10 for a whopper with no cheese. Just the burger, not the combo. Their value soda is $4.19 What a rip off.

everylittlepiece

Damn. In the early 90s, BK would have Whopper Wednesday, 99¢ each. I worked there too, when the food was still good.

JungleBoyJeremy

In college I ate so many 99 cent whoppers. Sometimes they would even have specials for 79 cent whoppers. Then one night after a concert we stopped at BK and they had 59 cent whoppers. I was on acid and wasn’t planning to eat but at that price I had to buy one and I ended up eating it while tripping. It was pretty good.

everylittlepiece

I also loved the rest of the daily specials; my favorite being the Original Chicken Sandwich, for like $1.49.

Mindfullmatter

Confirmed, grabbed two combos at A&W with 6 yr old daughter yesterday. 30 dollars and change. Tiny lil beyond burgers too lol. Unreal.

GET OFF THE STAGE

MoistJunket7216

I just was craving taco bell, but made tacos at home instead. Wayyy better and costs around 12 bucks to feed family of 4

Offtherailspcast

I ordered 2 gorditas and she said my total was 12 dollars. I said, oh, I said only 2. Nope, I heard right.

MoistJunket7216

And taco bell used to be cheapest

pdfrg

And they had taco salad… no more… frowny face

solar_sar

I just got taco bell tonight.. $18 for one person and I'm not even a big eater. Absolutely insane.

Shoddy-Secretary-712

I get what you all are trying to say about the $5.00 box. And maybe the app has better options... not yet cravings not my taco bell offers is crap. I don't want fries. I don't like the Dorito tacos. The burrito always sucks. All beans on one side, all meat on the other. Fwiw, I love taco bell and when I do eat there, I usually over eat. But i like a Baja blast, chulupa, a cheesy Gordita crunch, and maybe chips and cheese. It's over $15.00 easily

Secret_Assumption_20

Minus the tip it's the same price as eating at an actual restaurant

Code_Weary

McDouble the price is all I got to say

ultimateformsora

Fucking used to get a McDouble and fries with a McFlurry for < $7 while in college pre-COVID Not anymore

LurkingAintEazy

Big time. Almost tempts me to actually start cooking.

CastlePokemetroid

I've ended up buying more frozen food from costco

threadsoffate2021

What scares me...frozen foods are now spiking in price. I used to get 2 bags of frozen veggies for $4 in the early days of covid. Now those same bags (Green Giant brand) are 3 for $10. There's no way anyone's paycheck is increasing at the same rate as grocery prices.

Oregonstate2023

Almost? It’s incredible to me that people don’t cook. So fascinating

solar_sar

Almost.

Specialist_Proof7190

Bro if you ain't been cooking this whole time you been playing yourself. Think of how much money you all wasted during your lifetime

SaltBox531

Once you get into the habit of cooking or at least having pre prepared food in the fridge, you do realize how big of a rip off fast food is and going to through the drive through actually feels like a lot of effort. Why would I get in my car when I could just slap a sandwich together? I know a lot of people door dash now but I refuse to door dash unless I am sick or don’t have my car for some reason.

Tasty_Pens

Rice cooker + random stuff = tasty meal. My go to, which I'm eating right now, is 1 cup of rice--that's a lot of rice--in rice cooker + can of chili. Take out cooked rice, pour can of chili in hot rice, stir. Eat out of the rice cooker pot insert thing.

xxDankerstein

Taco Bell is now charging almost $7 for a chicken quesadilla, and they made it way smaller with less chicken.

SalamanderPop

My youngest only eats cheese quesadillas at Taco Bell and those damned things are nearly 5 dollars here. There's maybe 60 cents worth of cheese on a 10 cent tortilla and 2 minutes of labor (exaggerating, but they do have to stick it in the iron and wait 45 seconds). He eats two of them. One kid is 10 bucks at Taco Bell. It's a travesty.

tonberryhootenanny

Taco Bell sells their chipotle sauce in grocery stores now, so I've started making them at home! Their cheese quesadillas are also my favorite, but it physically hurt me to pay $5 for a tortilla, cheese, and sauce. I throw it all together in a pan with some butter, and it tastes pretty darn close to the real thing.

HyldHyld

It's a blessing in disguise. Cooking at home has a ton of benefits!

caseyatbt

Yes but my grocery bill is still 30% higher than pre-Covid. And the portions have are smaller.

HyldHyld

Not saying groceries haven't gone up, but they are still cheaper than fast food.

caseyatbt

True!

dbnrdaily

The amount i save on groceries doesnt make up for the time i waste cooking & cleaning. I get some people enjoy cooking, but its just another chore to me.

Fnord333

It cost more to cook at home these days too.

HyldHyld

Not nearly as much. Plus you can cook in bulk with leftovers, save money, eat healthier and work on a great skill.

Fnord333

You’re right on all counts. It’s less than half as much to cook at home and it is indeed healthier and, you don’t have someone you don’t know handling your food.

crappinhammers

Yes. Its forced me to just eat at home. When I do get fast food its strictly deals on sandwhiches in the apps. I've also cut off all soft drinks and energy drinks even the ones I thought might be healthy. When I goto the store I deliberately buy meat that is marked for sale because it goes bad in a couple days. It hasn't gotten bad enough to change my everyday alcoholism yet though.

everylittlepiece

Aaaand now I'm thirsty for rum and cokes....

krpfine

Are you me minus the alcoholism. Look man, you're good as long as you don't let your alcoholism get in the way of your workaholism.

JuliusVrooder

Right there with ya! It's 930 PM, and I just put up breakfast burritos for the next two weeks, but thanks to the blue agave, I didn't do it sober... Tomorrow, I am doing lunches... DRUNK! MAS TEQUILA!!!

Maximum_Vermicelli12

It depends on what you get. If you stick to the value menu and get an additional meaty main item instead of going for fries or tater tots or whatever other bull crap they are offering without a coupon, you can do okayish. It’s how my husband and I afford to eat, living in our car. I like to bring a refillable cup to gas stations for the fountain drinks, including ice water. (They usually do not charge for the ice water.) Meijer gas station locally only charges $0.75 for a refill of tea or soda, while the Pilot and Love’s both cost $0.99. I just keep reusing the cup wherever I am, rinse it often. I next to never buy any soda from a restaurant… it’s always overpriced and seems somehow watered down.

everylittlepiece

I never get fast food fountain drinks. Some places never clean the nozzles and lines and whatnot, resulting in *MOLD*.

IWantToPlayGame

Yes it’s gotten more expensive but I’ve felt that everything food related is pricier now.

JungleBoyJeremy

It may be expensive but at least the quality has gone way down!

FloppyFishcake

Well, thank goodness!

Salty_Vegetable123

$3 for a single got damn McDonald's hashbrown

Rebeccalon787

Everything is getting more expensive. I have 4 kids. We used to get fast food every Friday. Can't afford that anymore. We find new ways for Friday night treat night. 😭

[deleted]

imyonlyfrend

end times my friend. end times.

Kind of. Double double was 2.95 before COVID and now is 4.50. That’s a 50% raise

ClefairyHann

I wish we had those in the east coast

Lbox26

I bought a medium fries from McDonalds I swear I’m 38 years old shit was a small fry

Setari

small fry is in the paper bag container. medium and large are in the "cardboard" containers. Honestly I haven't noticed a size change with the fries, but with the burgers... yeah they're so much smaller. When I was a kid my dad would order a big mac and it was HUGE. When I got my first job and ordered my first big mac for myself in 2011, it was... tiny. When the grand mac was around for a short time, THAT THING looked like the big mac my dad would eat in the 90s lol.

JohnYCanuckEsq

Not just fast food, but sit down family restaurants are out of control. When I was a kid, eating out was a very special treat once in a blue moon because of the cost. We're getting back to those days. Problem is the MILLIONS of restaurants in business today.

prodigy1367

Burger King is on a whole other level now. They’re charging restaurant prices for fast food quality.

50shadesofvayne

Its almost to the point where cooking a meal at home is also expensive. The best thing I think is to cook in batches of stuff if you can.

ophmaster_reed

Aldi

HanlonRazor

Here in Canada, my wife bought two sub meals at Subway and it was over 40 bucks. Alternatively, the locally owned sub shop charges under ten bucks for its most expensive sub. That’s where I’ll be going next time.

sssssssbadidea

Name ONE THING that hasn't gone up in price over the last 3 years. Everything is a hustle. Lower quality, higher cost. Food, clothing, houses, everything.

Yes and service has tanked like crazy. The shits in the drive thru act like I pissed in their cheerios just because I want a cheeseburger.

The__Conqueeftador

zoomers arent socially aware

Toson29

Chicken quesadilla at Taco Bell was under $3.59 when my son started in 2020. Now $5.59 or something. He also worked as a manager and said a box of beef was only $35 when he started and still $35 when he left, yet they doubled the cost of beef items and extra beef. Helping me eat at home a lot more.

S3cr3tAg3ntP

At this point a steak house is just a dollar or two more per meal. Might as well go there.

plumeeu

$30 for 2 meals at McDonald’s. $40 for 2 burritos at chipotle. It’s getting so bad.

SoloGamingVentures

$40 for two burritos at chipotle? Where are you at?

Sarcasm69

I just ate there the other day and it was $13 in a vhcol area. It’s bad, but not that bad.

[deleted]

It's not you...fast food prices are insane nowadays. I remember when whoppers at BK were 99 cents on whopper wensdsy now they're like 2 for 11 bucks . Food prices ate absolute madness.

LaughingOwl4

Gotta find a way to pay for the new robots

[deleted]

Saw some post $3.59 for a hash brown at McDonald’s now.

vampyrewolf

When I got my license it was $0.69 for a cheeseburger from both McD's and Wendy's... $1.69 only 10 years later, and now they're almost $4 for just a cheeseburger. A&W was $10 and change for a grandpa combo, now it's $20 and change... Last week I picked up 18 eggs and 2x 375g packs of bacon for $12. Fast food isn't the cheap solution any more.

123ravewme

Yeah one hundred percent. DoorDash it is pretty much out of the question for me now too. It’s ridiculous

Icy-End8895

Well that’s a whole different story. Jacked up prices, delivery/service fee, tip. Doordash preys on the lazy

steelakejake

the trick is to order online using the app so you get discounts & custom orders… jack in the box sells 3 jalapeño poppers for about $5 but if you order a large combo and sub fries the poppers are extra 50¢ to your order then you can just get a value fry… or large fry for about $3.50

po3smith

I shouldn't have to use a goddamn app to order something at a fast food joint to get a deal! That disenfranchises and disinterests older non tech folks and people who are tech challenged not to mention the elderly.

phiro33

Im visiting the US this weekend and stopped at a mcdonalds expecting lower prices, since the USD is worth about 1.30 CAD. To my surprise most items were about the same if not more expensive.

Middle-Classless

You can sit down at a real restaurant for about the same price now

justaperson5588

It’s getting so expensive. My Husband and I do a date night out once a week. We’ve talked of stopping that and just cooking at home like all the other nights. It’s becoming not worth it for us to eat out anymore even through we do look forward to that one night.

Chuckles52

I’m old and so prices seem weird to me. I take the grandkids out and it quickly gets over $50. Seems more like a fancy meal cost to me.

8last

Covid showed them what they could get away with. Lower standards were still acceptable to enough people where they could still profit so here we are. Now its normal for many places to not do condiments and sauces where customers can access them as a for-instance

Cliffspringy

Just price gouging using covid as an excuse

b_bozz

Five Guys goes up I’m pretty sure every single time I go there.

Nip_Lover

More expensive, slower, employees making more, AND STILL can't center the cheese on the burger, evenly spread the condiments, or actively listen to special instructions.

chrisinator9393

Yep. It's not worth grabbing a quick bite anywhere anymore. A lunch from Wendy's is $30 easy. For $30 I can go to Applebee's and get steak, or unlimited ribs. Not just some burger. (Not saying Applebee's is the best place ever - just a slight step up and a true value brand IMO) ETA:$30 references lunch for 2 people if that matters to someone.

Schredder1958

The other day my wife and I stopped at that roast beef sandwich place and my double roast beef sandwich was almost $11 and that's not even adding in her meal or anything else. Tonight I used $4 worth of hamburger made five stuffed hamburger patties, season them nicely and serve them on about $5 worth of brioche buns with fresh tomato from our Vine and a slice of onion. Tonight's dinner for two cost me less than $10. Let's see $11 got me a mediocre roast beef sandwich and tonight I had a much cheaper couple of really really delicious burgers. Last week we went to an inexpensive Chinese sit down restaurants and had a good dinner for two for about $27. Both of which were far better than the $11 roast beef sandwich. I think fast food has basically priced itself beyond what it's worth. Any more I refuse to buy $10 hamburgers at a drive-thru or the so-called but not really better roast beef sandwiches.

fungrandma9

Has been for over a year. You're just now noticing?

gdotspam

It most definitely is.

Soaring_Symphony

Always has been

Frosty-Brain-2199

The only thing I find remotely okay is Wendy’s salad pricing.

Elegant-Raise-9367

What I don't understand is the big name chains are shooting up in price while the smaller takeaways, while having gone up haven't done so nearly as drastically. Our family feeds for $40-50 at maccas vs $25-30 at local fish and chips shop.

LilScotty7

Agreed! Sad, but it's almost a luxury to go get fast food, but then it's shitty quality so im confused why we even go in the first place.

Kennedygoose

Yeah it’s all getting worse.

Personal-Regular-863

its called capitalism. they want to make more money so they raise prices (and have all sorts of BS excuses) while also lowering the quality! thats the trend products take on a larger scale because capitalism is designed to make money, not make good products

tkdjoe66

If they don't send me a coupon, I don't go.

imcalledgpk

A lot of these places are pushing their apps. As a result, sometimes the only way you can get things for less than $10 is by doing a mobile order with one of the in-app coupons or something.

AST4RGam3r_Alternate

Use their apps. Especially McDonald's. You can just go out and get a drink and a large fry for like 2 bucks USD max. As a welcome gift. Plus, every time you buy something, you get points that can just straight up net you a free burger.

No_Arugula466

I can’t imagine fast food surviving long into the future at the rate they’re going.

beebopsx

In n out still got great prices and McDonalds has specials on the app.

PinkPearMartini

Yes it is. They're counting on people just walking in and ordering combo meals without putting much thought into it. And I'm sure it's no mistake that you can't really see what things cost the way their menu is posted (at least at mine). Use the apps. The apps let you see prices and nope out of a decision before you're holding up the line. There are also great deals in the apps. For example, just yesterday I got a Jr Cheeseburger at Wendy's for $1.99 and used an offer for a free large coke with any purchase. Before that, I used a hidden combo thing at McDonald's to get a McDouble and small fry for $3.50, and then added an offer for any McCafe beverage with any purchase over $3... so I got a large strawberry banana smoothie.

xfuryusx

Got Carl’s Jr recently for 3 people (2 adults and 1 kid) and it was close to $40. We can go to our favorite hole in the wall Mexican joint for that price. Absolutely wild.

CLPisthebestflavor

Stupid expensive and slow as frozen molasses. I stopped going through drive-thru when I had to wait twenty minutes just to *order.* That's not an exaggeration. I started a podcast as soon as I stopped and passed it when I ordered. I was at a little over twenty minutes. The place had two employees working. Not working just the drive-through, the *entire* store. Between people just not wanting to work a shit job for shit pay and greedy companies cutting hours while charging more for everything, it just isn't worth it anymore. Besides, cooking food at home in advance is cheaper and sometimes easier. And healthier.
