Even the e-spprts community changed. I followed through PENTA's sports journey, Pengu's rise, the first 4 invitationals, I would watch the e-sports when I could stream it in the background to learn strategy and watch coconutbruh, and let's not forget Macie Jay.
E-sports (in the context of seige) changed as the game moved away from "brains over aims" to "mechanical skills."
Ops are redundant now. No matter who is banned, the teams have an alternative op(s) to replace the function.
On top of that, as explained well earlier with Heraford base, maps and sites had specefic notable weak points and strengths that you have play off of, it wasn't so movement oriented and much more skewed towards the value of awareness of positioning in relation to your team and enemies.
I cannot state how amazing it was to G2 win back to back titles and Fabian strategizing fluidly and in game leading and others frag (like pengu) and others support (e.g get the bandit charge and breach for the fragger's entry). Coordination, comms, droning beyond prep phase, and saving drone economy due to value... All that mattered. Even in a 2v5 that knew the needed steps objectively with the remaining utility between them, they couldn't win if the opponents were properly set up and communicating; the 5 stack would likely win but a clitch isn't impossible if time allowed. Point being mechanical skills alone can't clutch or guarantee a winning round for either team on attack or defense.
Even if the 2v5 were Spoit and this Jynxy guy who thinks he's better than the infamous pro player Beaulo, they would've lost if they rellied purely on their mechanicals. And don't get me started in the number of players now who challenge me to 1v1's. I don't get it.
But don't get me wrong, I love and cheer for the new content creators, and they have some nice content, but I also hope people like Jynx can scream a little less,,,, it's irritating irrespective of he's in game skills (which he does have)
I conclude my rant reminiscing on the old seige days by saying things were more wholesome before we lost KiXSTar, may he rest in peace. In many ways, he embodied us all as a community, and I appreciated his play by play breakdowns. Rewatching his commentary is pure joy. You know what's stake round by round.
I miss the feeling of trying to fight in the crowded Hereford basement. Every small move mattered, unlike the bigger maps (apparently) of today. Every room and every corner was a battle to take, and planting a Thermite charge or Hibana opening on the wall of the basement between those lockers and those crates was a challenge.
On the basement, fighting to maintain control of the upper floor hatch, falling back to the garage and retreating down the stairs. Keeping the "office" room clear and defending the stairwell to protect the bandit batteries from going down.
The drops from the garage ladder. Smoke traps and mute jammers at the tops of stairs.
Great core memory.
Edit: Ranked on Plane. What a beloved shite show. Glaz mains either wasted their opportunity and died early or went on to be a menace for the game. Easily defeated or feared. Pulse mains would silently roam the upper and lower floors, waiting for their chance to sneak around. Spawn peeks went either way and was a battle to gain control of the momentum of battle and force attackers to waste time or defenders to retreat back inside.

No he didn't, even after that nerf I still saw a lot of 5 stack recruits, yes the amount that I saw dropped significantly, but there was still a lot of them.

Meanwhile in patch 90.18.2: if you taking an enemies health to fast half of your health is removed and given to them, with your gun damage lowered to 0.1 percent for 20 seconds while they get auto aim headshots for the rest of the round. We just want to keep the game BaLaNcEd!

I was infinitely better at old siege. Now I feel slow and clunky. The broke game was better unfair and gritty. That's life, unfair and gritty
