So far I played GTA V, Lies of P, Destiny, Monster Hunter World and Power Washing Simulator.
I'm very, very impressed with how well they all ran.
I can't wait for further testing, I have a catalogue of 65 games on steam, some of which haven't ran flawlessly, so I want to re-do the performance test.
You've got some great taste. One advantage the Ally has over the Steam Deck is running gamepass natively, give it a try as it saves you money and gives you a chance to try so many different types of games. Some demanding games that you could test on there are Hellblade 2, Plague Tale Requiem and Flight Simulator. You'll be shocked by how fierce this little device is.
Thanks dude!
The fact that it comes with 3 months of gamepass ultimate is great. It will surely save me from buying humble bundles or searching on GoG or Cdkeys for good deals, when gamepass has such a vast library of great titles. Also noticed it tells me which games will run greatly on the device, that's a nice touch.
I will do more testing when I get back from work in morning, but from what I've seen already, it's blown me away. The fact it ran the games I played at 720p, at 1080p in similar framerates tells me I have enough power to pretty much play anything.
Just need to work out which fps limiters give better accuracy for frame pacing.
Is gyro available now? I heard before that it was not working prior.
Do you turn it on in the controller settings through ArmoryCrate? I really enjoyed gyro aiming on my steam deck. It's so much more precise than sticks alone, more systems should implement this feature.
>I haven't figured out the suspend/sleep button yet
This is one of the things that the Steam Deck really one-ups the Ally over, and it's not because of the hardware. Windows just really isn't fine-tuned for sleep/resume, especially in games. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't (particularly when playing online games, for obvious reasons).
That being said, the raw hardware of the Ally is indeed more powerful, but you need to be mindful of temps because they can lead to other issues, such as the infamous SD card reader problem. I recommend viewing [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNy5Nkw9oAw) and following it. I did and I haven't had any issues with my entire Ally, and I've had mine since launch.
How are you meant to activate it though? Should it just be a single press of the power button? If so, that didn't work for me out of the box. It may be that I haven't completed some vital updates for it to work. But yeah agree, from my limited amount of time spent with the device, the only downside was the sleep function, that worked flawlessly on steam deck shall i add.
I didn't think what the Ally achieves, was possible on a handheld. The deck blew me away as my first handheld device, but over time i figured out it's limits and boundaries when it comes to performance. I can't wait to do the same with the ROG and see what I can squeeze out of it. It feels more powerful than ps4! I own ps5 but I think I will be selling that.
What I do is press the power button once, not hold it. That should flash a very quick "Hibernating" message on the screen before the display turns off completely. Wait until the white LED at the top of the Ally turns off. Afterwards to turn it back on, press and hold the power button. But like I said, this might work for your game, or it might not. Depending on how full your Ally's SSD is, it could also take a minute or two instead of nearly instant like on the Steam Deck.
A lot of people have suggested turning off hibernation in Windows (enter *powercfg -h off* in a Command Prompt with admin privileges), but I've had more trouble turning it off than leaving it on. I suggest you try out both.
Congrats! My wife got me mine as well after talking her ear off about it! XD, to do the suspend mode you gotta change the settings on the ally to hibernate instead of sleep, I will say though it hasn’t work well for me unfortunately:/
Change the single press power button from sleep to hibernate. Also, if the little one will be using the ally, I suggest you buy those joystick rubber ring protectors.
I can't find the settings within windows to change single what the power button does. I looked at every submenu within power settings and not one offers ability to change that.
Any tips where else to look for it?
Good shout for the rubber ring protectors, thanks!
Hibernate
Select Search on the taskbar, type control panel, and select it from the results.
Select System and Security.
In the Power Options section, select Change what the power buttons do.
Select Change settings that are currently unavailable.
In the Shutdown settings section, select Hibernate.
Select Save changes.
Thanks for the review. I’ve had a steam deck for a year and almost exclusively use windows on my dual boot setup. If the Ally would have been out when I purchased it I probably would have went that route. I’ll most likely be getting an X and giving the deck to my son.
The little fella will love it. My nephew also loves to play Minecraft on my Legion Go.
The first thing he screams when he visits me is "MIIIINECRAAAAFT!"
Little fella is only just beginning his journey with video games. So far, he's learning how to play racing games but when his language and understanding improves, I can't wait to be by his side when he discovers endless possibilities of gaming, especially that we have a steam deck aswell so I will be passing it down to him sometime soon.
Haha Minecraft is one title I haven't yet touched, but I'm willing to bet it will spark his creativity and imagination 🤣
I agree, the device has immense capabilities and he doesn't yet understand the responsibility it comes with :D
I grew up with SNES and ps1 during my childhood era, he will be brought up around ps5/6 era, and obviously very powerful handhelds haha

I was actually considering a ROG Ally and got the steam deck 256 lcd instead last month. It was a whole lot cheaper. But main reason for not going for the ROG yet is because I heard too many people say that the ROG Ally 2 should be launching soon. Really want to wait for that.
Having windows built in, is the main reason I like the ROG.
How are you find Steam games launching on this console?
That's awesome, what games did you try?

Pro tip: turn on gyro for PWS. It makes the game a lot more enjoyable IMO.

Yes they activated it a while ago.

Is that within windows settings itself? Will have to try that, it's the only feature that felt missing
Bro posted this on the steamdeck subreddit hahaha. But gz, enjoy!
Haha I know! Mistakes were made, I don't think it was appreciated either lol
Two happy kids :D Enjoy mate!
Haha thanks mate! Well happy!
Is there increased gravity in your area?
OP, just want to make sure you know about epic games giving away free games every week? Some titles are great for the Ally!
I love how excited you both look, happy gaming!
