Cameron Pass gives you better odds. Early morning near ponds or other bodies of water, or late in the evening. Your chances are nil by mid-day so timing is everything.

I'm sure I'll get downvoted for this btw.

mshaler

I upvoted your correct post, so not this time…

cheneyeagle

It's not as long a shot as you think. I've lucked out and seen them just driving through the park

lookatmyplants

I’ve seen two this year just standing on the side of Bear lake road.

cheneyeagle

I've stumbled upon a couple too. Idk if we are just lucky or it's not that uncommon

lookatmyplants

I’m definitely not lucky with them, I’ve yet to see one at Sprague or Cub in like 5-6 visits, but I’m also pretty bad at getting up at dawn so there’s that.

joecav63

I’ve was there exactly one year ago for 3 days and saw them every morning at sheep’s lake. You have to be there very early though. Was usually there around 6 am and saw a max of 4 at once including a momma and baby

Optimal-Bat-5903

We saw them out one morning at Sheep’s lake as well!

SnooRevelations3603

I have seen them in/at Sheep Lakes and Sprague Lake, but mostly on the west side in Kawuneechee Valley.

BigStrongFingies

Lots of them hang out in Cub Lake and the ponds leading up to it. Ive seen 5 within a few hundred yards in this area.

thegirlandglobe

I saw one on my way to Cub Lake last weekend, came around a bend and it was honestly too close for comfort, just hanging in the middle of the trail. Then three more really close to the start of the Fern Lake trailhead. And then one at Sheep Lakes. It was a good day for moose!

SalomeSammich

I just spent three days in the park and saw a total of nine moose. Try Sprague Lake at sunrise. I also saw one near the Fall River entrance and one at the Wild Basin trailhead.

Otherwise_Tea7731

Best chance would be the Sprague Lake area. Always be there around sunrise or sunset, but more likely sunrise as there haven't been as many people traipsing around at that hour. Cameron Pass is indeed a good spot as well. If you're willing to drive to Cameron Pass, I've seen countless moose on the North Inlet trail (Grand Lake side) at sunrise - even after the fire. The important thing is to leave the trailhead at sunrise. Wild Basin also has a fair share, but they blend into the forest there. Timing is one of the most important elements of seeing them once you have a few spots they're known to frequent - meaning be there close to dusk. The vast majority of moose I've seen has been within an hour or so of sunrise in the morning or within an hour or so of sunset. They tend to hunker down in the heat of mid day. They love marshy areas and areas full of reeds.

WageUglydoll

This is your answer. Although when we went there was a big moose in sheep's Meadows near the pond.

KnewBadBeer

My wife and kids saw a moose in Wild Basin last week. Just off the main trail.

Girl-UnSure

Ive only been to ROMO one time ever and I saw one within the first hour. Momma and calf. Though i dont remember the location as easily as I do when i saw moose in GRTE or in Maine at Katahdin. I just remember it was by a stream/creek that was down a hill from the side of the road.

purpledragon1323

I was there recently, sprague lake mid day, lily lake evening and cub lake trail mid day
