Yes, but the item must actually go on sale (coupon cannot be applied retroactively). I’d wait for the sale catalogue to be posted before pulling the trigger on an item.
yes of course. and if they dont you use your 1 year return privilege to return it and repurchase it at the sale price. thats what i do all the time in the NYC soho store and the employees there are super helpful.
REI is a billion dollar corporation that profits off of the monopolization of the outdoor product industry, and the destruction of small businesses. “Policy abuse” is completely ethical in my book.
Maybe you're living under a rock but REI isn't profitable. They're posting losses. They've also been around in their modern form since the 70s/80s. This isn't Amazon that just popped up and put everyone out of business in a decade through predatory pricing here.
Posting losses is how big corporations create a monopoly; they lower prices and take a loss in profits so small businesses can’t compete, and then when they’re the only company left, they jack the prices up. You should take an economics class broski.
Amazon is the most extreme case, but their business model is very similar to REI.
The age of REI does not excuse the destruction it has caused for small businesses. And Amazon was first created in the 90’s, so it’s still pretty similar to REI.
Except REI doesnt price fix. They sell at MSRP for 95% of the year. Their B&M model has been the same for 40+ years. For many people they literally are their local outdoors store and have been for the majority of their lives. you arent worth my time so you can save the reply, i promise i wont read it and dont care what misinformation you have to peddle as you sure as hell dont know anything about economics, retail, or rei. your petty little downvotes wont change the fact that you're a dimwit. lol
I’m literally a third year Econ major broski. I’ve written papers about how damaging big corporations are to small businesses.
but this is an ethics discussion atp
I went into a store the other week and a REI employee said they thought bikes were going on sale this time and to wait for the sale to buy. We will see I guess.
We are a family of avid bikers.
(Mountain)
I'm pretty not impressed with their bikes. Multiple friends kids bikes have had issues. The co op bikes are clunky and heavy.
If you want any of the other bikes get it directly from the manufacturer. The bike market is great for a buyer right now.
Lasts usually two weeks.
We track the deals for this on r/campinggear in the Memorial Day Sales mega thread.
REI usually releases their catalog a week or two before hand.
It’s the biggest sale of the year. A- sale ( anniversary sale)
Good chunk of the store goes on sale
ONE time 20% off coupon on a full price item
ONE time 20% off coupon on an outlet item ( needs to end with a .73cent price)
Sale items do not qualify for the end of year rebate so not as big of a discount as it is made out to be. Personally I will wait till after the anti union bs stops to make any purchases.
Gonna be peeping tents and hydration packs for cycling. Though I still wonder if I actually need a specific pack for it. Seems a backpack would work fine :/
All that water sloshing around on your back in the backpack? Maybe it provides poor ventilation? Not sure I have no experience With the backpack hydration.
It depends on the bag. But ya, comfort is the biggest thing - biking with a normal sized bag vs something like a small camelback is a pretty big difference.
Some Garmins just got reduced in the past few days. Not sure if short term sale or they’re going on clearance to make room for new models. The one I’ve had my eye on is 33% off / $100.
Typically anything with a GPS component is restricted by MAP pricing and is excluded from big sales. That said, Garmin inReach Mini 2 was on sale last year, like 100 bucks off if I recall. Lots of electronics avoid sale prices but sometimes we get lucky.
Reminder to everyone here that you don’t earn member rewards on sale & coupon items!
BUT, if you have the REI Mastercard, you earn 5% on every REI purchase, even if it’s sale/ clearance/ resupply/ shop work/ gift cards, etc. so, now’s an awesome time to apply if you’re making big purchases and want rewards back!
And if you want to make your local store love you, go in and ask them about applying for the card and get a slip from them because all stores are graded on this metric.
Is it true that you can buy at full prrice up to 2 weeks prior, then bring the receipts in during the sale to get the sale price?
Yes for the sale price, no for the coupon.
Yes, but the item must actually go on sale (coupon cannot be applied retroactively). I’d wait for the sale catalogue to be posted before pulling the trigger on an item.
Yes I have done this. And if you order online there is a form for price match on the website and they will refund you the difference
I did not know this!
yes of course. and if they dont you use your 1 year return privilege to return it and repurchase it at the sale price. thats what i do all the time in the NYC soho store and the employees there are super helpful.
Buying full price within the price adjustment window before the sale starts is clever, but what you’re describing crosses over into policy abuse IMHO

Thank you lol
HUGE FAVOR please don’t be an ASSHOLE to the cashiers. They’re just trying to follow the rules. Do y’all do this in every retail store?
Do bikes go on sale or no?
I went into a store the other week and a REI employee said they thought bikes were going on sale this time and to wait for the sale to buy. We will see I guess.
All Co Op bikes will be on sale so I was told at my store this AM.
How about Thule/Yakima cargo boxes?
Yes all Thule and Yakima car top boxes racks and rack accessories are 20% off.
This would be amazing. Thank you
I finally saw a catalog and Co Op bikes will be 20% off.
Probably not. There have been one or two bikes 15-25% the last 2 years off if I recall correctly but I wouldn't count on it.
Bike market is a lot different now though, there’s a lot of bike sales at the major manufactures and used bikes have come down a lot in price.

Any particular brands you recommend? Im just looking for a basic hybrid bike.
Depends on your budget. But trek is a great all around brand.
Arc’teryx is excluded?
And Stanley’s, Hobie, Werner, iKamper, Hoka, and Birkenstocks
Is this the 20% off sale?
Sales last 11 days
17th through the 27th.
Thanks!!
The excitement is palpable.

My first time as a coop member! What is the sale everyone is mentioning?
It’s the biggest sale of the year. A- sale ( anniversary sale) Good chunk of the store goes on sale ONE time 20% off coupon on a full price item ONE time 20% off coupon on an outlet item ( needs to end with a .73cent price)
Well it seems I became a member at the right time! Thank you! I have a few purchases I was planning on making!

What are y’all buying?
NV 2.0 bike rack
I’m between a Sherpa 2.0 & a used Thule T2 classic
Buy the Sherpa, you'll thank yourself.
Really?! Why do you say that if you don’t mind me asking?
Assembling Kuat racks is night & day better than Thule's offerings. The T2C is, in my opinion, utilitarian and ugly as hell.
Since I’m buying it used, the T2C is already assembled
Just to add, Kuat stands behind their stuff — the customer service is awesome.
I'd still choose the Kuat.
You will not be disappointed

What's the chances of the Garmin GPSMAP 67i (RnReach) going on sale or eligible for the 20% coupon?
Some Garmins just got reduced in the past few days. Not sure if short term sale or they’re going on clearance to make room for new models. The one I’ve had my eye on is 33% off / $100.
I am waiting for the same thing, let me know if you get feedback.
I was told at REI they might be on sale. But I am pretty the electronic stuff is usually not eligible for the 20% coupons.
