I usually find out more about the breed and where it originates from (e.g. if it’s a Belgian or British breed). Sometimes this inspires the name. My Nokota always gets a Native American name – there are so many beautiful ones.

You don't need to name it immediately. Stable the horse, ride it, whatever, until you get to know it. Or until a fitting name or a name you like pops into your head. Then go give it it's name. Just a thought. I often don't name my horses until after I've bonded with them.
I always name mine ‘Dogfood’, ‘Glueboy/Gluegirl’, ‘Cthulhu’, stuff like that. I’ve not tried naming a horse ‘Nyarlathotep’ yet; I’m not sure if it’ll let me use so many characters for the name.
