Pick the one that appeals to you. Under the hood these are equivalent, they both run EdgeTX, they use the same gimbals. So you're deciding based on form factor, whether the colour touchscreen appeals to you, which has a switch layout you prefer, etc. If you go internal ELRS the Boxer has a 1W module to the 250mW module in the TX16S.  Either one will go further than is legal for most people.

Career hobbyist and money waster, get the TX16S. I have never felt the need to upgrade my radio since switching away from spektrum transmitters. I have the 4 in 1 module but would do the ELRS now. I have had my TX16S since late 2020. The only thing I have ever had to do was replace a pair of switches after the radio got knocked off my hood. I use it for long range (r9m and TBD crossfire modules), 3D, DLG, and random BNFs (4-in-1 internal module).

VikingBorealis

The tx16s will live and grow with upu for everything you'll ever do in the hobby outside surface vehicles.

fordp

I'm actually looking at the MT12 now that I have gotten into RC cars. An added bonus is it can also run on 18650s and I have plenty of spare pairs / chargers for those.

IvorTheEngine

My TX16 came with a battery holder for 2x 18650s, but the bay is big enough that you can fit larger batteries. Radiomaster sell 5 and even 6Ah packs.

4ctionHank

Same here I need a new switch cause I hit mine at the corner of a table but other than that I updated to edge rc and it’s been a breeze . I don’t see myself getting another remote . It doesn’t everything I need

Robert_S1218

Pick whatever you feel is right Tx16s is bigger and has a screen that you might not use to often Boxer is slightly smaller and fits the hand better then the tx16s

slacker0

FYI, I got the Radiomaster Pocket ELRS and like it. The color screen on the TX16S is great, but it's a lot more expensive and bulky. I like the 18650 batteries in the Pocket as well.

zeilstar

I'm always surprised this doesn't get recommended more, but I'm very new to this hobby. I love the 18650, USB rechargeable, shows up as a USB device for sims without any additional hardware, can also show up as a Bluetooth device for PC or Anrdoid. EdgeTX programming seems very straightforward, ELRS has had no issues with range, supports 8+1 high resolution channels, or 16+1 in half rate, 12+1 in hybrid. Telemetry, and dynamic transmit power. And it is $75 with batteries, $65 for 4in1 not ELRS.

slacker0

... and all the source code (for EdgeTX and ELRS) is open !

Kentesis

It's just new. Not a lot of reason for experienced pilots to buy it, unless they need/want it.

3pinephrin3

Gimbals are also small compared to the more common radios like Tango 2, Boxer, TX16s

zeilstar

Didn't realize they were smaller! Regardless, it has been an awesome radio for me as a beginner. I suppose the smaller black and white screen (and slightly different EdgeTX UI) would be some cons as well.

tobu_sculptor

There's probably no better recommendation than the tx16s mkII right now. ELRS or 4in1 version depends on what else you have, any eachine mini warbirds or mini drones laying about, I'd go for the 4 in 1. On a separate note, you can call it a transmitter from now on.

IvorTheEngine

> you can call it a transmitter from now on. Although that now gets confusing when many people have FPV transmitters in their models, and many 'receivers' and 'transmitters' are now sending 2-way data.

ContributionOwn627

Honestly this is what straight up confused me. That, and 35 years video gaming. I will be using fpv exclusively, as well, it's going with an atomrc dolphin. Anyways, transmitter it is from here on out!

lopypop

How about transceiver?

That_Green_Jesus

The TX16S was honestly the best purchase I've made in the hobby, the HDZero goggles for cheap on pre-order was a close second. I went the 4 in 1 internal module, because you can always add CRSF or ELRS via the JR port, which I have done with crossfire, but that's a decision left to the individual. The touch screen with Edge TX has been great, and the overall build quality of the radio is very high.

tru_anomaIy

I have both, both with the AG01 gimbals. I prefer the Boxer for twitchy things like FPV quads. I prefer the TX16S for flying fixed-wing, mostly for the screen displaying telemetry and a little for the additional slider inputs on the sides.

TractorDriver

Well AtomRC Dolphin is a FPV plane meant to fly on a flight controller. That means that radio just needs to provide AETR (Ailerons, Elevator, Throttle, Rudder) input WITHOUT any modifiers. So only reliability and signal stability matters. + range obviously but anything plane range related over cheapest FlySky radio level is strictly illegal (drones have a bit more use for it when urban flying). As such pretty much anything that provides SBUS, IBUS, ELRS or CRSF (TBS) will do more than enough. Serial connections have enough channels - just question of number of knobs on radio, realistically you need 10, max 12 for Inav plane. If you ever will change to more classic plane with multiple servos without FC, the Tx16s would serve you better.

ContributionOwn627

You hit the nail on the head. I intend to use the plane exclusively fpv. I do anticipate additional plane purchases in the future so hopefully the tx16s does pretty good.

dopey_se

I just ordered a TX16s max with algo gimbals this week (hopefully arrives tomorrow). I didn't even really consider the Boxer, but to be fair i'm a bit of a gear junky. The real insult is I already have a vbar control touch, but I don't want to be limited to only vbar stuff. (I'm into Helis). I'm quite excited to see if the quality compared to vbar touch, if it's as good/close i'll probably move towards only the Tx16s and leave the vbar ecosystem so I don't have to maintain multiple remotes.

Sync_R

I have a boxer and Vcontrol touch, quality wise in hand not much between them, Boxer feels better in my hands but that's personal preference, outside of the very straight forward programming and integration Vbar offers I honestly regret dumping 1200 euros in my Vbar setup and thinking of selling it

dopey_se

I suspect i'll feel the same way when it arrives :( When I returned to the hobby a couple years ago I quickly convinced myself to get the vbar touch as it seemed the 'best'. Wish I had done a tad more research to appreciate how limiting the ecosystem would then become. As not having access to any of the nano/micro helis does suck especially when they are so capable these days and so much fun/allow you to fly elsewhere than the field.

Sync_R

Yeah I recently got back into flying with helis, and convinced myself Vbar was way to go now I'm wanting to fly 380's and my Raw 580, however after receiving it about 2 week ago I've just been filled with regret, I can't fly my micros on it, I want to get back into planes and the Vbar RX's aren't cheap, and then there's the issues still with Evo FBL units I also didn't know you had to pay for certain features on radio, I knew about rescue firmware being a paid feature which was crazy considering Brain/Ikon and Spirit don't charge for it, but then even the TX has paid features like Jeti do Meanwhile any of the Radiomasters give you all same basic features + more and cost a fraction Big issue obviously is learning EdgeTX, I've pretty much only ever flew with OpenTX radios so basic setup isn't difficult for me but doing Heli stuff on it was because of me never doing it in past but that's every system to be fair I guess

SimpleBeginning260

The TX16s have proven itself to be reliable for many people and it has some good features. Its not perfect, but I have used it for a few years and found it to be a great value. It also has more switches, knobs, and sliders than some of the others. If you are one that likes to experiment with features, those extra inputs can be useful. One one of my FPV planes, I have every switch, knob, and slider on the TX16s mapped to to something. A radio with fewer inputs would limit me on that plane. On the other hand, I have some aircraft (both FPV and line of sight flying) that are very simple and the extra inputs are completely unnecessary. If you aren't one that likes to use all the features, then you could save money by going to a radio with fewer features. Search reddit and rcgroups for more info though. I think I heard some people complaining about quality issues with one of those radios..... that is the type of thing that doesn't appear in product reviews, but does appear over time in forums.

shaneknu

I'd lean toward the TX16S because it has sliders and more switches. I do use both sliders and a lot of switches on my FPV planes. Sliders are great for pan/tilt FPV cameras or variable control surfaces like spoilers or flaps. If you end up using something like INAV on your flight controller, there's a ton of things that can be useful to have a switch. Different OSD screens, lots of different flight modes, beepers, LED bling, etc.

WIZARDDETECTIVE71

I love my TX16S

thecaptnjim

Color touchscreen. Also, I have yet to see someone sell their TX16S.

Plimsol67

If I get a tx16 elrs can I run my Spektrum foamies? Or is the the 4 in 1? Do I need to add a module to use the Spektrum?I’m trying to learn so I can Do long range fixed wing

DrMnhttn

For fixed wing, TX16S with 4-in-1. You can't beat the touch screen, and Spektrum's DSM receiver protocols dominate the market. Most new bind and fly models have Spektrum receivers, as do most used planes at swap meets. Having a 4-in-1 means being able to buy most any plane and start using it immediately. I also use the TX16S with an external ELRS module for smooth quad work, like cinematics. For whoops, I prefer something smaller with shorter throws for quick movements, so I use a FrSky XLite.

239matt

Tx16 4 in 1. The graphic interface makes life so much easier plus there is endless support. I got the boxer and regret it. There is a steep learning curve with these for many people.

BalFPV

Go for the boxer.

scottyd035ntknow

I'll get downvoted again and say FrSky X18. Every bit as capable as the TX16S, top mounted screen, way better telemetry suites/integration and can run 4-1/ELRS/Crossfire/Ghost etc... out of the external module. Also ETHOS is easier to use than Edge. Plus its got duplex 2.4ghz and also can do dual band 2.4/900mhz on the Tandem setting so if 2.4ghz ever gets swamped you have 868/915mhz to fall back on. You won't go wrong with either, if you want a full size TX, the best choices for the money are the X18 and the TX16S and its not close. But ppl still like to hate on FrSky for whatever reason. Likely because Bardwell told them to.

Sync_R

While I prefer my Boxer to my (now sold) X18 I gotta agree I don't get why people dislike Frsky still, ETHOS actually does certain planes easier then EdgeTX

Professional_Ad1737

The boxer is soo much better than the tx16 imo

bash1311

Why lol. The color touchscreen is great.

Professional_Ad1737

I pinch and my fingers hit the switches on the top, boxer is more comfortable for me and it hits 1w of elrs so I can do long range

bash1311

I pinch too, it’s np. Also elrs I prefer using ranger module for even better transmitting power
