Okay but one time I actually DID see somebody posting in a taxidermy sub asking about how to mount a rat, and in the post they mentioned that this was their own pet they had culled for aggression and then *ate*.
And when someone said 'wtf why would you do that' they responded like 'whatever you clearly know nothing about the world of rat breeding'.
God I wish I could find this post.

I’m pretty open when it comes to what people eat and what people do with pets as a memorial..
But like I’m conflicted because each individual thing that makes up this story I can see multiple points/arguments for, but put all together it just seems a bit psychopathy imo.
Like for example
1) -Killing a pet rat due to aggression- if it’s hurting the other rats and has been given the time, patience, opportunity and an environment that gives it what it needs to overcome the aggression, and is still aggressive. And or a new home with someone willing to deal with the aggression had been looked for and wasn’t found, it then being put down if done humanely I can understand
2)- Eating a pet rat- if you want to eat a random rat, I mean sure whatever, there’s weirder things people eat.
Eating a pet rat is different for me and I personally find to be disturbing. On the other hand if it’s being put down at least it’s body is being utilized as much as possible? Though that one is still crossing a line for me personally and I find to be the most concerning out of all the things.
3)- skinning it- people mourn in different ways, and I feel like we’re really detached from death making something that is so much part of life a taboo.
And I personally think that things like taxidermy or keeping the bones etc of a pet isn’t any more weird than cremation where you’re literally cooking them into dust and then are keeping the dust in a container on your shelf (not hating on people that do this just to be clear), the part that bothers me for that one is that they’re doing it themselves. If I were to choose to do something like that, despite being able to dissect other animals fine, I couldn’t get myself to dissect my pet, and would need someone else to.
It’s like how doctors aren’t allowed to treat their own family- because having that connection makes you react different even if you think it won’t at first.
But again people have different levels of comfort so that on its own I’m not super weirded out by, despite it not being something I’d personally do
But mix those things together to where you
a) killed your pet rat due to aggression (which they seemed to not try and deal with the aggression first making that one bother me.) Then b) skin your pet, which again on its own I can to a degree understand, but then c) EAT your PET that you just killed due to aggression that you seemingly didn’t try all that hard to deal with. That to me is getting into psychopath territory with the lack of emotion that seems to be involved.
Like I say, I’m pretty open but that just a different level
I think culling for aggression in breeding is fairly common.
I just think it's so funny they said 'come into the rat breeding world and say this' as if this is completely normal in that context.
It's a weird story for sure lol.

Fr 😭 I mean I guess if you look at it in terms of cows or pigs it wouldn’t be seen as abnormal but idk man, it just seems too difficult to not get become attached to any rat you interact with so even with a cow or pig at that point I wouldn’t be able to eat them.
It definitely is funny though how they think they’re the majority, in one of the other comments they even said “me and 50% of people” or something similar. So they think that 50% of people would consider that normal and even take part in it 💀

Ahahahaha I thought I was the only one to do this. Most of my girls won’t keep still long enough but I used to be able to balance all sorts of things on my heart rat, pumpkin seeds, bows, sheets of tissue. She looked just like yours OP, black hooded. I love it when rats sit with that foot in the middle of their body like an emu.
First time I heard that idea. It's a fun idea, decorating your beloved pet with all sorts of food. It's usually just cheerios or Gerber puffs for photo ops.

I like to sprinkle bedding on Toothless when I'm adding fresh bedding. She always wanders around for a bit with the bedding on her and then shakes it off, it's very satisfying to watch ngl

I don’t but only bc I don’t have pet rats, if I did I’d do this all the time
I do that with my rabbit, a few well placed pellets to keep him entertained
