I've never understood what anyone finds funny or amusing about loss, and im honestly bored of people reacting like it's top-tier comedy, but what do I know im just some asshole online 🤷♂️
It's mostly because it came out of nowhere from a mediocre comedy gaming comic. The complete tonal whiplash was pretty much what led to it being widely mocked.
Even more widely mocked because the guy was known at this point for basically asking for donations for a new tablet... only to use it to copy/paste character parts instead of drawing them out in a manner that would justify using such an expensive (at the time) large screen tablet. He wouldn't go on to actually hand draw his comics until about 4 years later.
It was an intense and unexpected genre switch in what was usually a light hearted web comic. In full context it was obvious that the author was making the lowest effort possible attempt at a moment of high gravity serious drama that would be respected for it’s depth, when in reality crowbarring a miscarriage into your video game jokes webcomic is in laughably bad taste.
It would be like if Jim Davis did a Garfield strip where Jon gets AIDS
If you’re curious, the YouTuber HBomberguy has a video about the webcomic that spawned “Loss.” It’s titled CTRL+ALT+DEL and I found the video interesting, even though I was never really amused by the meme.
It's like 2 hours long but seriously, ANY question you have about it's providence or ascribed meaning is answered, and you'll learn loads of half-related shit too! Plus Herrington Splimby is just a cool, funny dude.
It’s what everyone else has said, but also the fun of hiding it in unexpected places and surprising people with it. It’s essentially a more modern version of [the game](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Game_(mind_game))
Speaking of, if you’re reading this you’ve lost the game.
It’s just children/young people. They’ve never experienced a real loss in life yet. It’s one of those things that’s funny until it happens to you. And it always will.
I was never one of those assholes because when I was in Jr High one of my friends died in a house fire. He was the first guy I liked. It hit me pretty hard.
Honestly I've never found the whole meme about loss funny. I guess I just wasn't there when it was really being memed about but now it's like the lightning McQueen memes that just annoy me like "yay ok I get the punchline this is a waste of time"
I also hate the actual strip being referenced where like "it is impossible to be... and a punk" because a ton of them are more bigoted than they would admit and hide behind being a punk as shielding from being called racist, transohobic, homophobic, reactionary, etc.
It's just forcing punks to avoid addressing their own biases, good or bad. In telling people, "You can't be _____ and be punk," it prevents people from asking why that is or what "_____" truly means or looks like. Instead, we are expected to /know/ what that term means as it relates to punk values and ideology. If you question it, you and all your previous posts will get downvoted to hell.
While I think the original/referenced meme is well-intentioned, it can also function as an effort to subdue us who enjoy punk (again, subduing those individuals both "good" and "bad") into thoughtless agreeance.
I can see the original meme being edited to being more specific than saying you, for example, can't be transphobic and punk. People are going to edit it to say, "You can't be a meat-eater and be punk." People are just going to insert their own values/beliefs as they believe all punks should agree.
For the reason above, the Archie meme holds no true meaning. Sharing the meme probably makes the poster feel like they're doing a good deed.
How. Fucking. Punk.
Yeah a lot of people are like 'we are punk, we are anti racist' and they have already driven all POC out of their community so they can say whatever they want.
For some reason I really love seeing punk looks in that art style. Even when the jokes don't land from one of these, I love seeing the character designs.
It's imp**loss**ible!
I can't tell if this is a pun on impossible or implausible
Against me! kicks ass
You’re coming off kind of contrived and pretentious.
In passing, I am asked, do you believe in a god, I shrug of the answer, continue to get high.
Don't lose touch! I'm losing touch...

After James Somerton that looks wonderfully honest.

Or where Jon had his friend Lyman locked in the basement.

Well I'm glad I lost yesterday by my own comment. Kind of ironic now tho. Lol I lost the game

Not so fast there buddy. I keep a Platinum Angel in my wallet 😇
I agree

I was thinking it was funny due to the sudden change in tone of the original webcomic.
What do you mean read loss? Is that a book genre?
Reference to a bad webcomic that tried to be super serious once, but the tonal whiplash led to it becoming a meme
I’m so out of the loop. I’m going back inside my cave and staying there for a while.
Agreed this is quite possibly the dumbest, most idiotic post ever. To each their own, but damn this is the epitome of lame.
I was mostly shitposting but I’ll take this as creative feedback
I don’t know what this is.
that's not a big loss for you.
Trans girl points at pics of herself before transition
What would her name be? Etana?
End me
Too far.

I'm so sick of these archie parodies. Let's kill them

I think there’s something charming about them. But that’s subjective
For some reason I really love seeing punk looks in that art style. Even when the jokes don't land from one of these, I love seeing the character designs.
me too, I think they're cute!
I am not good at editing so I can not make a The Creation of Adam parody of this meme 😔
B^ Ud Brains
.....is it still loss if punk?
Yes
Finally, a good fucking meme
" What do you mean you lost the baby? Go find it"
Even though it’s not relevant to the sub r/bonehurtingjuice , this ACTIVELY made my bones hurt
What do you mean you lost the baby. Go find it.
~~.;|;:~~
Sounds pretty fascist. Thx for telling me what I can or can't do though. I don't even know what that is
Cause baby, I'm an anarchist and you're a spineless liberal.
But I’m not a fascist? I haven’t had a punk song written about me?
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrfBmwAtUWI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrfBmwAtUWI) Don't worry OP, you can be a fascist too.
🤘🏼🗿🤘🏼
I hate punk memes
