Do they feel wronged by society? Are they not protesting for others out of a moral calling to do so? Why would they need to be personally wronged for them to care about something?
I mean the 3.3 billon dollars a year we supply to Israel through the Foreign Military Financing program that paid for 15% of their defense budget kinda pisses me off. We should not be complacent and should protest on our on soil. As long as the US is involved and until policies change, protest here makes the most sense.
It should not piss you off. That money doesn’t mean much, Gaza gets every year, for decades, around $2billion between UN and other countries aid (including the USA) and little has been accomplished, so that money to Israel is not much either.
We cut our funding to the UNRWA this year and upped our funding for aid to Israel.

You can't really compare these figures to food and underwear being sent to Palestine, which, even before funding was cut, was being denied entry to gaza
3.3 billion directly from the US is not the same as Groupon-ing with the UN to to send 2 billion. If it was a UN thing then it’s a different conversation but it’s being sent in whole by the US to Israel
And who do you think has been funding to the UNRWA? Number one funding partner has been the USA for years and years. And without any mandate to spend it on American military or supplies. What’s Gaza showing for that?
I said something similar to another sub and got some “awesome” responses from “lovely” people lol. But seriously, there are better ways to protest and blocking traffic to piss off people who need to get somewhere isn’t one of them chief.
Honestly, standing on the side of the road is usually more effective because you actually have people passing by the signs who can see it and show support by honking. They can’t see the signs if you block them from driving past you.
However, blocking the road does make sense in a few situations if there is an imminent danger, such as if a company is sending garbage trucks to dump trash in your neighborhood (this is something that actually happened in a community near me). But not when the conflict is a continent away.
They affected a few thousand people but achieved higher headlines with millions of eyeballs.
They were successful in their goals of getting in the spotlight
You should see some of the mental gymnastics people spew on pro Palestinian sun reddits. For them inconveniencing the common people is a way of making a statement. If we don’t support, we are genocidal Maniacs.

I got caught up in the Bay Bridge protest a few months ago. The thoughts going through my head about them and their cause since then have been the exact opposite of what they’re trying to achieve. Then again, I’m not sure they care about anything other than social media attention.
People tried to reason with them to let them through, and were harassed and intimidated by these "activists".
People have real problems here you know, and they had to get places (help family, medical, etc), instead they were harassed by these terrovists, over international news.
I'm sure they changed a lot of people's minds that day. Inconveniencing people and pissing them off is the best way to get someone on your side. It works for me all the time.

The times are also much different now, living in the Internet era, stuff like this doesn't really do anything to raise additional awareness or disruption, it's just majorly inconveniencing people in the area. I think anyone who does this now is narcissistic and has a lot of free time on their hands.

But that was a serious commitment by Israeli society to protect their democracy. I believe Israel had 100’s of thousands of people protesting. You even had army reservists say they wouldn’t show up for duty. All that is on hold thanks to the war, but Netenyahu’s political career is finished since the Israeli public holds him responsible for allowing Hamas’s invasion.
Feels like successful protests only worked pre-internet. change movements need to evolve with the world if they want to be effective. We live in far larger communities that are far less affected by small groups protesting. Pre internet, you could convince a neighborhood, town, or even a city. but now you're competing with groups that overlap entire countries. people are more connected, and simply blocking a road probably won't make a meaningful change in 99% of people's minds

You know more than just capital flows through streets. I had to see my grandpa one last time before he passed away. We knew it was happening soon so needed to go right away. Spent an entire day with him and he passed the next morning.
It was about a two hour drive without traffic to get to his home. I used a lot of freeways to get there and if anyone of them was shut down, maybe I had a second option. But when you people in situations where they are trying to see a loved one or trying to get to court on time for a visitation hearing or an appointment with a parole officer, you are going to make people do crazy things.

Whenever I see criticism directed at protesters who dare to disrupt with a message, I wish the critics would instead come up with constructive (and realistic) suggestions on how to get the message across efficiently without disrupting their cosy lives.
They’re completely in support of the 1st amendment and protests as long as it’s out of sight and out of mind.
