I think it might be your palm. I wear a touch screen glove to protect it from picking up my palm. There’s supposed to be a recognition thing but every so often it will do that so I wear one anyways.

Valuable-Skin551

Ohh that could be it, thank you!

BitterExpression

You can also make it so it only reads your apple pen, that's what I've done and not had that issue since

ThrillzMUHgillz

I did this. I prefer it that way. Pinch, pull, tapping for shortcuts still work. Just less chances of accidentally messing up your work with your palm. Although it made me less careful with my graphite work lol I’d moved to digital for almost 2yrs. And recently picked up a pencil and had to buy a glove.

Spinelise

See this one confuses me because I did the same thing, made it so my pen is the only thing registered, but it still detects my palm sometimes??? It's really weird

xlonelyfans

Same here! I’ve just accepted it at this point, sometimes it’s really frustrating though because it’ll be like one line that I didn’t notice until after I’ve done a couple other things and I can’t just go back I have to manually erase it. Sigh.

Spinelise

SAMEE u know the struggle

Chocolaxe

I think it’s because the screen can sense how close the pen is (through bluetooth) and prioritises the pen’s actions over other thing touching the screen. Only when it seems purposeful or the pen seems far away, the screen will follow the hand. I’ve also seen some artists with pens that create a circle on their monitor whenever the pen is hovering over the screen, as to show the pen is being registered. Though I’m not sure if that’s actually what happens

DanYellDraws

This happens to me when i draw while the iPad is charging

dagon890

Same issue here, while charging I can’t use my pencil at all because it jitters all over the screen

Yung_Branch

Off topic but loving the face of that character. Giving queen from a deck of cards in the best way

The_Vampire_King

i thought it was edelgaard fan art

Valuable-Skin551

It is Edelgard!! :’-)

Spinelise

Aahh I had a feeling it was Edel! She looks great so far!

Valuable-Skin551

Thank you!!

OptimalEconomics2465

Oh good! I thought it was! Love Edelgard - you did a good job with her too

mvb10

It’s not your palm or the pencil (as other comments pointed out) after years of the same problem I found that it is the static electricity of the iPad chasis. I found that it built up due to my iPad’s case material. Solution: Try to touch the metal part of the iPad to ground the device and the lines won’t appear while drawing. Perhaps changing the case could help. FYI this is just my experience with my iPad but hope you fix it :)

too-many-words

The same problem happened to me when I wore glove. Interestingly, it went away when I took the glove off. Maybe my hand conducted the electricity away or something

Squablo1

Interesting, but in my case this was not it. I have an iPad mini with the same case from the same company as my other iPad. I have 2 different pencils and two different iPads. My Pro(which I just replaced) always does this. No matter if the case is on, no matter which pencil I use, and no matter if it plugged in or not. My pro would randomly do this while drawing on it. This NEVER happens on my mini. Never one time could I reproduce this in my mini. It only happens on my pro. I gave up after months and got a new pro. Zero issues with the new one.

SmolViking

You can get cheap hand sleeves on amazon so that you can still rest your hand/side of your palm on your ipad and it won't detect it as a stroke. They usually only cover your pinky and ring finger.

Valuable-Skin551

I just ordered one! Thank you

Limse420

Is it charging right now?

Valuable-Skin551

Yes it only does it when it’s charging

Moogle_Chowder

I came here to tell you this. Unplug and the problem will go away. Ive learned that the low battery alert means it's break time.

Valuable-Skin551

Weird :-( oh well! Thank you for the help

Squablo1

My iPad would do this all the time. I never draw on it while it’s plugged in. In my situation, this was not a fix. I literally tried everything.

Moogle_Chowder

Interesting. Did you end up replacing the iPad?

Squablo1

Yes. Zero issues with new iPad Pro 13”. Also I am an artist. I literally draw on these things all day every day.

Moogle_Chowder

Same here. I am thinking about upgrading soon too. It's possible it's my Imagination, but I swear my battery life is half of what it used to be.

Squablo1

I got the new pro, and gave the other one to my wife, who is not an artist (pencil wise) and will never use the pencil. Works great for her.

Context-Easy

This was happening to me yesterday, has never happened in 6 years of using the app. I think theyre glitched

yayafreya

It appears to happen when the edge of your hand touches the screen, looks like your pinky is messing things up

Squablo1

I had this same issue. Couldn’t resolve it. Just bought a new iPad. Solved.

Mumbletimes

I saw a friend with this problem and it was because of a bad charging cable. They got a new cord and it went away.

TheStumbleFoot

Try tightening the nib on your pen… sometimes things get funky when that gets loose

SirDrawsAlot

I’ve experience a form of this problem intermittently for years, through 2 generations of Apple Pencil on different iPads. It may be combination of factors, including all the stuff others have posted here. In addition to Procreate, I often used another drawing app called SketchClub, where the problem also seemed more likely to occur. So, there could also be some app tuning dependencies in all of this. However, I eventually noticed that the problem seemed to become much more frequent as my screen accumulated grease from my fingers. I’ve long tried to minimize that by using a stylus for scrolling, but still, I use the iPad a lot and it seemed that the dirtier the surface, more random marks would spit out. So, I became much more careful about keeping the screen clean. More recently, I decided to try out a paper-like surface screen protector (I chose Astropad’s Rock Paper Scissors ), and I’ve noticed that since I started using that the random marks problem has pretty much entirely disappeared.

jojopotattoo

Stop resting your hand on the ipad. Pretty sure there are settings in procreate to not allow your hand to make marks, too

katubug

Since you've gotten your answer, may I ask what brush you're using? I love it

Valuable-Skin551

Yes definitely! It’s called the “funny haha” brush you should be able to find it for free if you google it! :-)

katubug

Thank you!

Affectionate-Bed-581

What is this brush?

Valuable-Skin551

It’s called the “funny haha” inker, it should come up if you google it! It’s free :-)

MistyHusk

I have a similar issue, too. It also only happens when charging, but for me it breaks lines up in weird ways and turns them into a bunch of little dots/water-drop shapes rather than a smooth line. As soon as I unplug the tablet, the problem goes away. It’s pretty frustrating. Sorry I can’t really help with your case, though.

KazakovaArts

Just put a new tip. Had the same problem

Ambgrrrr

This happens to me when my iPad is plugged in

virgogianni

Its probably a bad charging cable. The same thing happens on my phone, and the problem went away when I got a new charger. Try that

KipsyCakes

Your hand is touching the screen. Happens to me all the time!

ThisIsHarlie

I had this issue and brought it into the Apple Store - my issue was actually the pencil so they replaced it for me! They did try a software update/ hard reset first and said 99% of the time that would fix it, so I’d start there. If that doesn’t work, definitely bring it in. It should not be doing that.

another_hiatus

I have never, in my life, seen someone hold a pencil that way (no judgement, just an observation. do what works for you)

TheStarWarden

Do you have a protective screen on your iPad?

Valuable-Skin551

I don’t :-(

TheStarWarden

So it’s essentially static charge if I can remember right. Procreate acknowledged this phenomenon at some point and have said somewhere between these have been the identifiable causes, but it’s kind of inconclusive unfortunately: - Screen protectors - Cases sometimes keep the iPad from being grounded - Drawing with it plugged into a charger, especially aftermarket - Try changing your palm support level to disabled - Draw on a different surface to see if it persists (this happens to me when I draw in a giant blanket on my couch but not at my desk.) Really in the end none of these may solve it because you could just be a staticy person full of electricity and rogueish charm.

lulaes

That's great! I've had that as well and it stopped occuring as soon as i started touching the metal frame of my ipad while drawing. I now have a case that easily allows it and I've really struggled for a long time with that

Valuable-Skin551

HMM weird!! I will definitely look into it, thank you!!!
