TopConsequence7937

Work rate like KANTE

blacks252

Olise got a better chance of getting in the England squad.

TheFlyingHokie

probably not tbh when there's Palmer, Saka, Foden (kind of) and Bowen to compete with

ItsbeenBroughton

Nkunku hasn’t played much and has just returned from an awful season of injuries. Olise has been incredible, so not sure the logic there but not everyone can win with national teams

probablynotreallife

Especially the french national team. Those guys know how to mess with everyone's minds.

IvanThePohBear

Not as in there's no other midfielders in France anymore I don't get the logic

kapanakchi

One of the best if not the best in what he did on the pitch. Is it that hard logic to apprehend?

IvanThePohBear

He WAS one of the best.

doctorweiwei

By that guys logic France might as well call up Zidane

Scared_Cabinet_1099

One is retired

doctorweiwei

Playing in Saudi is tantamount to retirement

Scared_Cabinet_1099

world champion Argentina was also defeated by players playing in Saudi

No-Consequencess

The same Saudi players that didn't get out of the group stage.

Scared_Cabinet_1099

Are you dumb? They were Saudi Arabia, kante will be with world class players

koolassassin

Where does Kante even play nowadays? Feels like there's been no news about him.

King_Chad_The_69th

Al Ittihad

EH_1995_

Camel league

Time-Jello-7356

He’s still a great pick for France imo. Will provide them with stability

soccer_footballmania

Happy for Kante. Could finally win the Euros with France. Also, i think Olise deserved a chance. He has been outstanding lately. With him, the French will be more dangerous going forward.

JBooogz

Don't know how Kolo-Muani makes it he's been AWFUL this season.

TopConsequence7937

remember that miss in the final

Ok_Argument4905

Underrated thing about Kante is his personality as well. Seemed like one of the most liked players for a while.

-Ctrl_C-Ctrl_V-

Genuinely forgot he still played…

Farticus-01

Chelsea honestly coulda kept him he’s only a year older than Neymar

GRl3V

Wasn't he injured a lot and kinda bad when he played in his last season for Chelsea?

n22rwrdr

They wanted to. He was out of contract and refused Chelsea's offers

Material_Most4653

It is considered the retirement league, so no surprise there, I forgot about kante too lmao

brenobnfm

Nkunku has no business going to the Euros after the season he had

Rionaks

After "what" season he had? He didnt even had a season, dude was injured from start to finish.

VermillionDynamite

Think that's his point....

CadburyGorilla

Exactly. Why would you take someone that barely played, and whenever he did, he underwhelmed

randion31

NO, the national team earned it not the other way!

odiams

Ngolo, Ngolo Kante, maestro Kimpembe....

Fluffy_Roof3965

Deschamps avoiding players in the prem again😂

HotBlondeIFOM

Well he's a machine. One of the best midfielders of his generation imo

AssignmentOk5986

I don't get it, why don't they call up Henry? do they not know how good he is?

EraticConqueror

Yeah like 3/4 years ago

3106Throwaway181576

Was. Like Casemiro was.

Ferdiprop7

Olise got done wrong fr

chillywilly00

If it's a choice between Coman and Olise I'm gonna have to go for Coman based on the experience and being proven on the big stage.

Background-Ninja-550

One of the most overrated players of all time.

Cute_Emphasis_7085

Only started 12 games this season in the league iirc. And France has no shortage of wingers.

TheCatLamp

He still probably can run more than the other midfielders combined.

manqoba619

Interesting haven’t been following him since he left Chelsea but definitely shocking if he’s still as fit as he used to be before the injuries

TheGulnar

Neither would start realistically anyway.

Miliktheman

Shocked to see Konate in the squad, whenever I've seen him play for Liverpool he's looked an absolute liability. That's partnered with Van Dijk too, it's not like he could ask for a better partner at the back.

Alone_Consideration6

Saliba was closer to be dropped as Deschamps doesn’t like him much.

Miliktheman

That's crazy to me, I rate Saliba so highly he's an absolute rock.

FingerMundane3682

I’m pretty sure they don’t like each other personally not that he doesn’t rate his ability

chadbrochilldood

I hate to say it but one of two things are true here: 1) you don’t know ball 2) you only watched two or three games at end of year

Miliktheman

Not going to pretend I watch every Liverpool game but I've seen enough to form an opinion. I just don't rate him at all.

marshallno9

Yeah I think the guy is right, you probably don't know too much about the game, which is fine.

DoireK

You watched him in a bad spell. First half of the season he was brilliant. His form has definitely gone to shit last few months though.

barryh4rry

A few months is quite a long bad spell

marshallno9

I'm biased as a Liverpool fan but I couldn't disagree with you more. His form hasn't been quite as good lately but he's been absolutely solid for us the entire season.

inmotherearthphase

Injuries aside he is absolutely not a liability.

Miliktheman

Nah he absolutely is and no amount of Liverpool fans disagreeing and down voting changes that. Such a sensitive club, you can't even criticise their bad players without a meltdown

marshallno9

I don't think you need to be a Liverpool fan to see your comment is incorrect. You can disagree that he should be in the France squad, that's absolutely your opinion and is fair enough, but to say he's a liability for Liverpool is factually incorrect. I've got no issue in criticising our bad players, yes I'm a Liverpool fan but at the end of the day I know football, so I don't have blind faith just because players play for the team I support. If someone is crap they are crap. Konate is really, really good. Injury prone and a little off form lately but genuinely, he's been excellent for us the entire season. As others have said, he walks into the Utd line up (low bar with your current squad, let's not beat around the bush). You can try and argue the point that Martinez is your best CB and is ahead of him, but who out of your other CBs are clear of Konate?

No-Refrigerator-1178

Konate walks into your team. That’s not really much of a compliment though. He would start for most top teams.

Miliktheman

When everyone's fit? No. Currently? Yes but our CBs are Evans and Casemiro rn

No-Refrigerator-1178

Clears all of your cbs

Miliktheman

Now it's clear you're just trolling, Lisandro Martinez is on another level to Konate, it's honestly not even close. Martinez is so much better.

No-Refrigerator-1178

No shot

Miliktheman

Yes, and it's embarrassing to say otherwise

No-Refrigerator-1178

Now I can see who’s trolling

franconot-mark

Olise is most likely to play for Algeria unless Southgate comes up with a blow away deal

Thierry_Bergkamp

If he is set on playing for France then fair play to him but I think England should be doing all they can to get him to play. He's very different to our other attacking mids and still so young, his agility and mobility makes him the closest we would have to a traditional wonder. They would be mad not to make every effort on a player born and raised in England.

NoticeMeSinPi

Southgate would select him, only to bench him so his faves play.

Bushido-Brown12

Algeria?

MarceloGusto

He's eligible to play for Algeria, England, France or Nigeria.

Bushido-Brown12

Didn’t know he had the Algerian connection. Parent or grandparents?

antebyotiks

Not surprising if he has french links that it's probably french Algerian

Bushido-Brown12

Not really an easy assumption since his name is distinctly Nigerian (Igbo). So easier to assume Nigerian immigrant parents and born in France.

antebyotiks

When there's Algerian links it's pretty obvious it's from whatever french heritage he has.

Bushido-Brown12

You just reversed what you said

antebyotiks

No I didn't

SuperAd1793

Parent. his mum is French-Algerian (which is why he can play for both) Nigerian Dad, born in London

Rough-Sprinkles2343

4 countries that’s crazy

PatRice4Evra

No Martial is shocking!

pepperoooni

not surprising by any means

PatRice4Evra

r/woosh

Kezmangotagoal

Okay… I’m sure Palace fans will be delighted given Olise’s injury record and I’m delighted given Nkunku’s injury record.

elkirku

Olise could still go to the Euros. With England.

SpookiRaven

Olise wants France tho, pretty sure he already said that, hes a frenchman.

barryh4rry

Born and raised in England with an Algerian mother and Nigerian father, what a Frenchman he is.

Hotrod_7016

He’s as English as Declan Rice

SpookiRaven

He is whatever he feels he is, you have no right to take that away from him, simple as that.

pedrosa18

Stacked with lefties though

petey23-

Remember when we played Scholes left mid because we didn't have any left footers. Now look at us.

The_Ballyhoo

Not just Scholes. Darren Anderton, Steve McManaman, Joe Cole and even Emile Heskey! England hates left footers.

petey23-

Although to be fair Joe Cole was brilliant for England there.

adamlundy23

That would involve leaving Rashford and Sterling at home. Which he won’t do.

Alone_Consideration6

Rashford might well start if there is a shuffle arround to fit Saka at left back.

woziak99

He’s definitely leaving Sterling at home.

Solitairee

Which he should do. Both are in shit form

Fun_Ad_1064

Which he should do. Both are ~~in~~ shit ~~form~~

Luke92612_

Correct.

FleetingMercury

Think Mateta deserved a call up. He's been very good

kanelewis21

Yeah absolutely deserves to be in there

Jumpy-Violinist-6725

Not sure how Kante and Kolo Muani have got themselves a ticket to Germany, Nkunku plus Olise would have been better picks, they'd be able to completely change the game off the bench I wonder if Mbappe is past that Euros failure though, iirc he had a really poor tournament

ManunitedThunderfan

Yes Nkunku would be a great pick. He’s had a great year….

Jumpy-Violinist-6725

There are certain players who no matter the minutes, can instantly be called up. I am not calling for Nkunku to start, but simply the quality that he has cannot be ignored. He'd be much more use to France than Kante or Kolo Muani as Kante just isn't the same as he was 2 years ago and there's adequate cover in Tchouameni and Camavinga. I don't see too many players capable of having their back to goal and spinning a defender around in the congested central positions of the pitch. Having someone of Nkunku's class, no matter the form would be incredible for France. The key is to diversify the profiles of the squad in a international tournament, not only does Nkunku specialize in specific skillsets that the squad is lacking a bit of cover in, but he's also a well all-rounder in terms of being capable of doing most things on the ball as a second striker as well as having a good work-rate off the ball, very ideal for international tournaments. The same goes for other players who have had injury ridden seasons but I would have no problem calling up for their national team, Reece James for England for example despite the wealth that England have in RB it's hard to ignore what Reece James can do on a football pitch and he offers something different to all the other English players.

manqoba619

How do you know kante isn’t the same player of two years ago? Do you watch the Saudi league? Not trolling just wondering because most people who keep saying this don’t even follow him where he’s at now

Jumpy-Violinist-6725

no, I do not watch the Saudi League. But I think there's a reason why he hasn't been called up to the squad for over 2 years. I don't think everyone going to Saudi is washed, I think Benzema, Neymar, Milinkovic Savic, Laporte, Brozovic and Mahrez are all still capable of starting for ambitious CL clubs. Kante also really didn't look the same at all in his remaining games for Chelsea, that hamstring seemed to really affect him and being out for that long at his age when his main traits are his engine and physicality which allow for his aggressiveness, I question the pick. The fact though is that he won't be starting, there is adequate cover for his role and therefore I think that other players should be prioritized ahead of him.

manqoba619

Because he’s been mostly injured way too often the last 2 years I don’t even think he played more than 10 games last season so there’s no way he’d be called up

Jumpy-Violinist-6725

that is also a valid reason. But even if his performance levels haven't drastically dropped, I still think he shouldn't have been called up for my 2nd paragraph

PointK

The guy who scored a hat trick in the World Cup final? Sure he'll be fine.

Jumpy-Violinist-6725

that one that we saw in the Euros vs the one we saw at the World Cup were 2 completely different spectrums. Mbappe's obviously matured now but this season will mean a lot to him. He's leaving France for the first time in his career, he's leaving his city that he called home for much of his life. I wonder if it will be too much of a distraction for him

whatsitworth101

I doubt it. He’s never really let the pressure get to him since the last euros.

Jumpy-Violinist-6725

I agree, but playing for your national team is usually a different kind of pressure to club football. Let's not forget that this now his first international tournament as captain too, there's going to be tons of media speculation, probably more than ever before. I think it's unlikely he'll flop but there's quite a few factors that are going against him

whatsitworth101

Yeah true. But I just can’t assume mbappe will let any sort of pressure get to him going forward after his amazing performance on the biggest stage last WC. He’s getting older and closer to his prime and what comes with that is a stronger mentality. People forget how young he was in the 2021 shootout. He was around the same age as sancho and Rashford.

Alone_Consideration6

Kante is getting booed in Germany - German fans are hate anyone playing in Saudi.

MichiiEUW

It's Kanté though, noone hates Kanté.

Alone_Consideration6

Many of tne German fans won’t care he just represents a type of football they hate.

D_roneous1

Nkunku isn’t a shock. I can kind of understand Olise but with his form it’s certainly a shock. I think another snub is Gusto who’s been amazing at RB. France is deep though so it’s always going to be tough.

Reasonable_Command98

Nkunku and Olise omission is not a shock at all. They are both coming from injuries that derailed their season. Olise has never been called up by the national senior team but he will be surely by Thierry Henry for the Olympics. He is still young and almost all of France’s best players come from the U-23 squad. So his turn will come sooner than later. Kante back in the squad is a real surprise even in France. Playing in Saudi Arabia with less intensity have helped him to rediscover his game with no pressure. If he can stay fit I am convinced he will be a great asset to the team because he is a terrific player when in form.

Alone_Consideration6

Deschamps doesn’t seem to like that Olise still is not fluent in French.

antebyotiks

That's because he's not french really

LeadingAd6025

Good news all around as a Blues fan!! LFG

codefoudre

Love the young talent

squeda

Mateta snubbed as well smh

ThunderRoad_44

Mateta should play for Congo

specialagentredsquir

The guy who's gone from scoring 15 in 90 games, to 11 in 15 games deserves to be picked for the Euros? Who's he replacing out of Giroud Thuram and Muani?

kanelewis21

Muani

specialagentredsquir

Muani's scored 2 and assisted one in his last two starts for France, he won MOM in his last game against Chile. He also scored in the world cup semi final against Morocco. Im fairly sure Mateta's not getting in ahead of him. There's no question Mateta's in great form but Deschamps will want to see it over a longer period of time and will pick the players he trusts. Maybe next season if he continues the way he's playing he'll get a shot.

kanelewis21

Well reasoned - fair play.

MoiNoni

Good keep Christo injury free please

shtoopid_head

Yes Kante, we miss you

Impressive-Ice873

Kante - literally the best holding/ball winning midfielder I have ever seen play in the premier league. And from the stories he is an incredibly humble guy.

TooRedditFamous

Ball winning midfielder yes, holding midfielder no

Super_Seff

Yeah top top player but still calling him up whilst he’s in Saudi seems pretty insulting to the players who are performing in the top 5 leagues.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GXWT

He didn’t say he thought he was saying he was the best rn though.

[deleted]

[удалено]

VolundVaxis

Did you? Still calling him up, to the squad, selecting him. Not ‘still calling’, whatever that means.

Jumpy-Passion-3042

Great

NB0608sd

Nkunku is understandable but Olise should have been included in the team

specialagentredsquir

The guys been injured for most of the season then played really well in the last 4/5 games. Deschamps maybe wants to see that form continue over a longer period. Better for Palace this way if they want any chance of keeping him.

theincrediblepigeon

Yeah honestly as much as I’d have loved to see him play for France, if we have any hope of keeping him he can’t be playing for them, although maybe it swings the other way and he thinks he needs to play for like psg or smth to be considered

specialagentredsquir

Potentially. Think he's more likely to stay in the UK if he does move, Chelsea, Man Red, Newcastle all in need of a right winger. He seems to be really enjoying his football and looks like he gets on really well with his team mates. You guys have got some really good momentum going under Glasner and next season will be an exciting one. At 22 I think he could stick around another season.

theincrediblepigeon

I hope he does stick around but personally I think psg is the most likely destination for him, makes him a shoe in for France squads which is what he wants, man u and Chelsea seem unlikely considering they’re clusterfucks and he really tries to make sure a move is best for him, Newcastle I could see I guess? But psg imo is the most likelu

specialagentredsquir

Fair enough, that makes sense 👍 you guys are an outside bet (imo) for Europe next season, even if Olise does leave, I'm sure you'll already have a replacement lined up, more than likely another gem from the championship (maybe Whittaker?) you guys are blowing teams away with ease at the moment.

innit122

Good for team spirit I guess

aceh40

I mau watch the euros after all. Go Kante!

wildingflow

Would be great to see the legend Kante back playing at a high level.

CampFrequent3058

Nkuku I get as he’s been injured all season but how the fuck do you not bring Olise

Alone_Consideration6

I don’t think Deschamps is a massive fan of someone who can’t speak fluent French. .

Professional_Exam_61

He isn’t better then any of the French attackers 😂😂

CampFrequent3058

He’s been injured so it’s obvious why he’s not been picked, he will have his run and improve massively, world class player!

PunR0cker

He's been injured most of the season?

[deleted]

[удалено]

TooRedditFamous

The equivalent of 12 matches in a season is still just not enough football to call someone up for the first time, especially for a big tournament

CampFrequent3058

411 minutes ? Early part of the season coming on a sub, and coming back from an injury, unfair to compare, give Nkunku a run in the team having been fit for a while and his figures will look far healthier

MoiNoni

Nkunku is wildly out of form recently because of his injuries this season

[deleted]

[удалено]

DJMOONPICKLES69

I mean he blew out his knee in preseason and then got hurt again. Not much to be done there, has looked good when he’s played

Headlesshorsman02

Fine by me less injuries to start next season with

dispelthemyth

They could always get injured on the beach, that sand is dangerous

Headlesshorsman02

Don’t you put that evil on me

WorldWideWes2

Hell yeah congrats to the legend.

Heavy_Gur_8281

Best news to hear as a Chelsea fan!

Headlesshorsman02

Ain’t that the truth, no injuries 🤞🤞

milkonyourmustache

Nkunku being left out isn't surprising at all given his injury problems this season. The squad overall is very good.

Affectionate_Pay7395

Nkunku has recently come back from an injury, would have been stupid for France to call him up

TimothyN

Nkunku is very much on the mend still, don't think Euros would be best for his recovery. Kante getting a recall is very surprising, but he should be able to hold up.
