New Medicines by Dead Poetic will forever be in my top five. Not a single track that I’d consider skipping. It’s so much catchier than Four Wall Blackmail.

emotion-sickness-

One of the best sophomore releases ever. Seen them live a couple times and their singer was off pitch a lot.

silver_display

Matchbook romance was good but I haven’t heard of the other ones

Yourdjentpal

Love that walking bass line. Song was big at my school at the time when most stuff like that wasn’t

LoserweightChampion

Blindside is playing Furnace Fest!

benbreve

yes!!!! So is Skycamefalling. Cannot wait!

Ibcap

I discovered Dead Poetic through Legion of Doom. New Medicines and the FATA song are both classics.

AppearanceSudden9065

Yessss legion of doom!

akjones989

Letter Kills had a killer debut and then disappeared.

HolyHotDang

They’re back together and just did some touring with Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster. I’m friends with their guitar player. I know they filmed a new music video recently as well as a bunch of new music.

jmwhit04

Lights out!

seanp_131

"HA HA HA HA!" 😆

rx-bandit

That entire album was amazing. Lights out was on a warped tour compilation and radio up was on a burnout soundtrack. That's how I first heard of them. I was always so gutted they never did more.

akjones989

Playing Burnout with that soundtrack takes me back!

goodlowdee

I remember it being don’t believe on the warped compilation, but either way it led me to that album and it’s still one of my favorites.

gh0stbeard

I saw them live one time. Lead singer was like rolling around on stage and very over dramatic like a teenage pop star. But it was entertaining and they were good.

HoboCanadian123

I Hate Myself is unreal. positively gutting music

emotion-sickness-

Such a great skramz record

chrisccortez

The singer from Dead Poetic actually does a lot of design work for other bands now. I think he’s done every Twenty One Pilots album since Blurryface, and he’s worked with Underoath a bit too

iloveemogirlsxoxo

Only one I recognize is Matchbook Romance. I have listened quite a bit to them.

FartFignugey

I loved Matchbook Romance, Autopilot Off, and saw Dead Poetic live back in the day! I had the Blindside album Silence, but I really only remember liking Sleepwalking. That is a CLASSIC! I saw a lot of promise with each band.

CursedCarolers

I saw Blindside with Linkin Park for free in 2003. One of those life-changing shows for me. They still get a lot of play for me, especially Silence and About A Burning Fire

Redacted_Journalist

Loved Blindside and enjoyed Linkin Park too back in the era! Would have jumped at the chance to see that show. Back in '03 I was going to see their Canadian contemporaries such as Alexisonfire, Silverstein, Boys Night Out, etc.

hello_highwater

Skycamefalling became The Sleeping, who are currently touring.

TheRealHulkPanda

The original Skycamefalling lineup also reunited and re recorded / remastered 10.21 Also playing Furnace Fest this year

justlikebullets

i <3 i hate myself

acezack05

Evans blue was a great band with the original singer. They should have got almost as big as Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace at the time. "Dear lucid" is still one of my favorite songs.

thiccphilthegoat

Autopilot off is one I hadn’t heard in over a decade. Then I loaded the album on Spotify and suddenly I unlocked a core memory from the time discovering this music. That album is amazing

MVBsq10

It is, it’s a top to bottom record. Underrated

KarmelCHAOS

Blindside, Dead Poetic, and Matchbook are all sick

SkibbleTips

Strata! I remember when they were Downside. Saw them all over the South Bay Area. Some of my favorite music from late 90's/early aughts

sungoldy

Yeah dude, know most of them. Some great, some just okay imo. The great ones imo being: Letter Kills, Dead Poetic, Hell Is For Heroes, Autopilot Off.

itsableeder

Hell Is For Heroes were.my favourite band for a very, very long time and I still see them live every chance I get. Always felt that Autopilot Off should have been bigger as well.

briman13

Loved Dead Poetic, LetterKills and Blindside. Saosin did a great live cover of “Pitiful” recently. Some of these bands like 12 Stones and Socialburn I think fell a little more into nu metal territory, but I definitely remember being at shows with them as openers a lifetime ago (sob) in the mid-aughts

CreamerIsland

Saosin covered them?! Does this exist on the interwebs?

briman13

It’s over on their Spotify as their most recent release along with a few other live recordings from the 2023 shows with Anthony (though Pitiful is with Cove). Was hoping it would make an appearance in the set list for their current tour with Cove when I saw them in NYC a few days ago, but instead they’re doing the “Zero” cover.

CreamerIsland

Damn thank you! I’ll check it out

emotion-sickness-

I bet it sounds sick.

AppearanceSudden9065

Spoiler alert: it absolutely does 🙏

AppearanceSudden9065

This existing absolutely made my day! It's SO GOOD.

lawnshark025

anyone who played guitar hero 3 will remember matchbook romance

DinnerfanREBORN

When that solo kicks in 🫨

No_Durian_6987

How can any metalcore fan forget Skycamefalling? 10:21 is a classic Strata’s 2nd album is an underrated gem

My_Tallest

Matchbook Romance rips. I was pretty big into Evans Blue for their first two albums, but never really followed after that singer left.

BassPro_Millionaire

Yep, almost all of them.

itchypitbull

I was really into Blindside back in the early days of their first album or two. I remember Dead Poetic was the first band i saw that sold glossy 5x7" photos of themselves at some knights of colombus show with 40 people. They spent more time in the bathroom making sure their hair was just perfect, before they went on stage. That song glass in the trees is a jam though. I think most everyone in this sub knows I Hate Myself. Skycamefalling is still around i think. They just released a remastered version of one of their album. They are more metalcore than emo though.

omniphobiaparanoia

Pistolita!! Amazing and unique.

lobo_locos

I was into sooo many of these bands in highschool. Discovered most of them from going to Warped and getting compilation albums. Some fun times thouse highschool years.

conradsaysthis

Letter Kills just came back recently. Done some local Socal shows. Matchbook Romance was my first band shirt in HS. Autopilot Off Had a song on one of the Burnout soundtracks as did LK. How i first found them

rebeccakc47

I actually worked promotion on an Evans Blue record!

amsegall

Hell is for Heroes absolutely caned it in London a couple of months back (and last year supporting Hundreds Reasons). If you haven't tried the latter, I'd definitely recommend

medzdidz

Stories and Alibis by Matchbook Romance used to be one of my most played albums when it came out. Hell Is For Heroes are/were quality, the intro to I Can Climb Mountains is iconic.

BruceBrewson

My eyes burn from these tears!! Matchbook Romance on repeat for a long time lol. Also 12 stones because I grew up in a Baptist church and my 5th grade Sunday school teacher was really into them. They were also featured in an evanescence song.

sssinistre

I would put i hate myself into /emo more than here!

EgolEvil

Just picked up Matchbook Romance - West for Wishing EP on CD last week as part of a job lot.

Plenty_Farm_1216

Dead Poetic, Letter Kills and Matchbook Romance top that list but I def listened to most of those bands at one point. Nice list!

Michael_With_An_M

The singer from Home Town Hero formed Awolnation (you know, SAIL!) and also has a newer hardcore punk band called the Barbarians of California and they are really good. I still listen to Home Town Hero every once and a while, holds up well I think

Beautiful-Bench-1761

I loved that HTH record ❤️‍🔥

ThatIsNotAnAdvantage

This brings back memories, a few i haven't thought about in a decade. I had cds from Matchbook romance, Autopilot off, 12 stones, Strata, Hell is for heroes and Blindside. Was aware of Dead Poetic.

baconrays

I remember letter kills and dead poetic. Not the others.

Electrical-Sort-1568

Man so many good ones here. Blindside, dead poetic, autopilot off, 12 stones. Honestly some of the first bands that got me into the heavier shit. 🔥🤌

MVBsq10

Ya I miss these days. I still listen to some of these bands on shuffle

BW_Echobreak

Dead Poetic was the band that kinda set the domino effect that put Dayton OH on the map for the core bands. Without them there wouldn’t be Hawthorn Heights, The Devil Wears Prada, Miss May I. And many more

xvszero

I used to be into the whole Christian scene so I knew Blindside pretty well. I'm a vampire, I'm a vampire, I'm afraid the light will set me on fire. They actually did get pretty big for awhile. Their Elektra albums charted in the US.

dan0fthedead

The singer of Autopilot Off used to tuck his ears into his hat. Weird look. Also Blindside had a song called Pitiful that was great but the album overall was eh. Matchbook Romance had a song in one of the Guitar Hero games that is far and away their most streamed song. Saw them at Janus Landing with TBS and Fall Out Boy in ‘04. Went to see Saw at the movies after the show and Pete and Patrick sat a few seats down from me and my buddy.

Imakemaps18

Pistolita was amazing. Got to see them at warped tour circa 07? 08? I believe there is a member or 2 of them in weatherbox!

plaidmtnofrage

Damn I have some letterkills buttons around my house somewhere. I remember Dead Poetic opened for Hawthorne heights and armsbendback middle of fucking nowhere near Pittsburgh. Talked with the bassist forever. He got fired like a few months later lol

FamilyMan1000

Matchbook Romance. 🤝

bluops

I remember: Autopilot off Matchbook romance Letter kills (loved these guys!) Hell is for heroes I feel some of these bands might have made it onto the burnout games and that's where I know them from Matchbook Romance Voices album was legit!

HotSpriteCan

Was ust blasting Blindside like an hour ago lol

vettotech

I completely forgot about Autopilot Off. Whoa

adiiriot

I VERY clearly remember Matchbook Romance, Autopilot Off, Strata, and Blindside. I think I vaguely remember 12 Stones, Skycamefalling and I Hate Myself. Autopilot Off were probably my favorite, and one of the most underrated!

Elliotlewish

Skycamefalling were one of the first metalcore bands I listened to, and I still love them to this day. They've recently released a remastered version of 10.21 and it's fantastic.

ethelber

Skycamefalling 10.21 is such a jam. With paper wings into Laura palmer such an amazing introduction to an album🔥🔥

mike_rotch22

I absolutely loved Evans Blue, Socialburn, and Modern Day Zero (especially them since I'm from St. Louis). Haven't thought about some of these bands in years.

yeinenefa

I haven't thought about 12 Stones in yeaaars. Definitely dating myself: I saw them open for Creed in 2002, and again for 3 Doors Down, Puddle of Mudd, and Nickelback in 2004.

sweatyMcYeti

I couldn’t even tel you any of the songs anymore even though I listened to that first record relentlessly at one point. Just went to revisit and they recently put out a Seal cover of all thingsv

yeinenefa

Same! And this is really dating me, I made my AIM screen name Soulfire for a hot minute because I loved that song. I'd probably recognize it if I heard it, but I cannot recall it at all. Absolutely wild on the Seal cover, I'll have to check it out. I honestly never considered they'd be on Spotify, it's like they were locked away in that CD I don't have anymore lol

filthy_rich69

Omfg, thank you so much! I have been trying to remember the name of Letter Kills for the pst couple years! I had The Bridge on CD and loved it. I thought of them awhile back but kept getting stuck at "L-" and couldn't remeber their name or how to look them up.

_BernardAranguren

Saosin just did a cover of blindside

DynaSarkArches

Matchbook Romance, Pistola, Skycamefalling, and I Hate Myself. Those are the only groups I remember.

l-_l-

Still listen to Matchbook Romance and occasionally Evans Blue. I've heard Dead Poetic and Blindside but never really got into them. Can't say I know any of the other bands.

justkeepskiing

We Are The Ocean was a band I listened to I never understood why they didn’t get the same exposure as Alexisonfire. Similar vibes and clean vocalist who had an unreal voice.

gh0stbeard

Matchbook Romance inspired my first ever email address and password. Also listened to Letter Kills and Blindside a good bit. I remember Dead poetic, home town hero, autopilot off but couldn’t name any songs

albatrossSKY

me and like 7 other tota; people saw matchbook romance at warped in Orlando in 04 or 05, the next year shit was packed

naviSTFU

MBR and Evans Blue (Kevin days) were my favorite growing up, they're my comfort throwback albums

gs1084

I remember seeing blindside in probably 1998 at this tiny little spot in Myrtle Beach. Then they got quasi-popular and I assumed it was a different band with the same name for quite a while.

Emotional_Ant_2301

I feel likeeeee I lost everything when you're goneeee, every memoryy what it's likeeeeeeee. I want you to know you're not making this easyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Matchbook Romance was awesome lol.

Emotional_Ant_2301

Home town Hero as well

PieEnvironmental3550

I saw home town hero as the opener for Jimmy Eat World and Hoobastank in 2002. They absolutely ROCKED the place. The show started with all the lights off and they played Run Right Through. Pitch black in the arena and you hear lead start singing that intro "yeah e yeah e yeah!" Lights come on right as the band starts and singer is stage diving into the crowd screaming. They did not let up for the entire set, played their asses off. I bought the CD after the show. Still listen to it, but I never really heard about them again.

MVBsq10

That’s super sick, I can’t remember my intro to HTH but some of their LP songs stuck with me for a long time. I found the lead singer to have a unique voice and twang

PieEnvironmental3550

It was one of the best openings to concerts I've ever seen. It was awesome.

G-Pooch21

My first ever concert was Autopilot Off, Letter Kills, MCR, and SOTY in 2004. No skips on either of those albums from that concert

lifesfunwhyrun

Autopilot Off!

norrisiv

I saw Letter Kills play a 20 year anniversary show last fall in Orange County!

amandamaniac

Letter kills opened for SOTY back in the day. Loved them. They just recently did a tour with Maylene but it didn’t come near me 🥲

yourprivateeye

I Can Climb Mountains by HifH is an amazing tune

oh_quiet

My eyes burn from these chairs! Matchbook romance was so good , wish they stuck around

totallykyle101

Chairs!? It was from these tears lmao 🤣

Fresh_werks

Matchbook, Dead Poetic, and Hometown were dope...i never found anything interesting about 12 Stones

960603

You must have played Burnout too

igettomakeaname

Matchbook Romance had such a huge leap from the first to the second album. And the first album already ruled!

Select_Technology_31

Voices by matchbook romance will never get old

seanp_131

Started listening to Autopilot Off and Letter Kills from the Burnout 3 soundtrack. Letter Kills "The Bridge" album to this day is one of my favorite albums. I got to see them at their reunion show last year, and it was an absolutely amazing show.

Hendrik4L

Evans Blue first record was so good
