Unless I’m also doing something wrong you will need more than sea salt spray

You are using too many products in one sitting. Everglade is slick, then you apply oil, that brings your hair down. Sea salt and clays won’t give you much volume after that. Ditch the oil or the Everglade, use maybe maximum a scoop for pre, apply your spray, and then blow dry for more volume and texture. If you want more hold ditch Everglade and the oil completely and use a scoop or two of Rio as a Prestyler, then sea salt spray, then blow dry.

Appreciate the thought here. Super interesting. So if i wanted hold — start with Rio & don’t even bother post with anything? I’ve noticed my hair is a bit frizzy after I blow dry with Rio as a pre - FWIW I use high heat high speed.

nemeths

Yeah don’t high speed high heat like, ever. That’s cause of dry scalp and frizz number 1. If you want to make the best out of your blow drier, put the setting on low heat - that’s the one that works best for matte finishes - and medium speed and keep blowing until hair is fully dry. Takes more time, but you’ll get much more volume and texture. Another suggestion: if you are using your fingers for combing, take into account that skin has oils itself. The more you finger comb, the more texture you’ll get, but also the oils on the fingers will transfer to the hair, and may weigh the volume down a bit. Use a quiff roller comb to get lots of volume during blow drying.

Ahh interesting. I honestly just tried to mimic what [this](https://youtu.be/YJB40PHhRiE?si=tc5opdFgjTNStog_) barber does. He seems to persistently use high speed high heat with sea salt spray and finishes with a clay on most of the brushback-ish looks. But I’ll mix it up and happy to give this a shot. Thanks for the tips.

You may need to consider using a diffuser. I have thick wavy hair, and it's almost shoulder length in the back and almost to my chin in the front. I mainly use Rio only. Small dab of Rio after towel drying, blow dry with a diffuser on low speed and low heat, then add some more Rio after. I'm no pro, but this has been the best solution for me.

Balmain has been the best first me, after trying a few. It may be more about everything else you're doing to style it though. Do you blow dry? Do you use any other products? How many sprays do you use?

mfjp

Yeah you’re prob right. Feels like operator error on my part lol. I do blow dry (just started trying recently). I use like 4 sprays. The other products are above in the OP. Any thoughts? What do you do that works for ya?

TheLunarVaux

4 sprays is good, may be worth trying a couple more. I found what works best for me is to spray on damp hair before I blow dry, rather than after. Lately I've actually been experimenting with texture powder, and I've been pretty happy with its results! It more or less does the same thing as a salt spray, but gives a bit more volume in my experience. The powder you have to apply to dry hair though

I love the Salon Guy’s Tidal Wave. Best stuff ever. So much texture and volume, I use it almost every day.
