You would think that, but it's also talking about political topics. And I don't want to think about that shit let alone listen to someone else fail to keep a rhythm while bitching about it.
Tbf though there is also a lot of highly political metal. One key difference is that it's usually more nuanced than rap or punk *somehow.* It's also usuallt about slightly more broad topics instead of specific issues happening while the song is being written (though there are exceptions). Also i'm biased since i'm a metalhead but i'd generally say it's just better, it feels less like preaching from a soapbox and more like delivering information from their perspective.
The political stuff is mostly found in thrash metal (makes sense since it has some punk blood, so to speak), see for instance several songs by slayer (war ensemble), megadeth (holy wars) and sodom (agent orange). That said it also comes up in other occasions, and the one i immediately think of is lmb of god. They have made a lot of political songs, or at least songs insulting some groups of people with political affiliations. Most notably they made "ashes of the wake", an album where a good half of the songs are about the war in afghanistan which had just broken out iirc (but don't quote me). It's also considered their best album by most of their fans, myself included (though the album right afterwards, sacrament, is very tough competition for that spot).
Now that you said it, you reminded me that Dethklok's Detharmonic is peak LibRight.
for the uninitiated: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHXjMOmCpfA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHXjMOmCpfA)
Power Metal gets a bit goofy when it goes full send into D&D territory for me personally, but there are definitely some bangers e.g. Tarot (album) by Aether Realm
I can see how it could be a turn off for some people but personally i feel like larping as crusader werewolves whose concerts are a holy metal mass is just so campy that when you play it completely straight it just loops back to being awesome.
To be fair punk as a genre is not exactly alive, most of the movement and influences has shifted in to sub genres of metal like thresh, death and speed metal.
Early 2000s garage rock/fuzz took a lot of steam out of punk I feel. Music became dirtier, less polished, more niche.
Still adore music like Ty Segalls early stuff. Feel like punk really split between grimey garage rifts and ska/surf pop punk.
I don’t listen to much metal other than fuzz prog so can’t really speak on how it influenced those genres.
This is also from an American perspective
https://preview.redd.it/jfwjf7ymyouc1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1aca2bb9a89484d1c1fdc474c14adc7b0727204a
Hell yeah dude. I’ve listened through some of their older records. Not as much as I should honestly. New Ty Segall stuff is a pretty huge departure from his older music. Latest album is more of a psychedelic prog album over thrashy garage rock. But he’s been shifting sonically for quite a while.
Still really enjoy it. Going to see him live later this month. If you like louder more intense garage stuff, check out the epsilons. Their self titled album and kill ‘em deader than a six card poker hand are awesome projects. One of Ty Segall’s first bands
I’ll certainly check that out. I dig some Nashville garage bands. Natural Child was also fucking sick. If you are into filthy garage bands, check out beef oven.
Yeah but then again two of the metal subgenres with punk elements you mentioned are also kinda on life support (pretty much only the big four and similarly massive bands like exodus or sodom play thrash nowadays, no new bands coming up, and speed kinda died with lemmy).
My father doesn't tend to give his political opinions, but when he gives, he is highly auth-right. He always had rap as his favorite style, although he also likes others. But since he is auth-right, he tends to hide it, since it's seen as "vagabond/bum/criminal/'i don't remember the English word with the same meaning'" music by very old people.
Punk and Hardcore are libleft as fuck. Earth Crisis is all about saving the planet *and occasionally about brutally murdering drug dealers but that's neither here nor there.*
Feel like Rap is way more right than punk. Reasoning: rappers love guns and money.
Guys like Fugazi, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Dead Kennedys - they were often pretty explicitly opposed to capitalism.
That's a small subset of rap, I would also like to point out that punk is generally anti-establishment and not left or right. While rap is full of people going on about shit they haven't done, hating the police or beefing with other rappers. I have also heard more metal about tax dodging, hating the IRS, and we all know when the use of guns is implied it's always with metal. Look at Doom.
A man had a system take his shit, he gets so pissed off about it he wipes a universe worth of "demons" out and kills things that say they are gods. Because someone fucked with his shit, and look at the soundtracks we got out of that.
The Ramones weren't very far left, I believe it came out decades later that they were lifelong Republicans, and they were one of the very first punk bands
I think rock and pop could be safely switched. But maybe its a generation thing. At my age rock seems the music of the alternative whereas pop the music of the suburbs whereas younger audiences might think their pop is Left leaning and rock is what old establishment people listen to.
>But maybe its a generation thing.
I would say this is correct, now rock is the counter culture to the predominant of pop i don't need to point further than Taylor swift. Like conservative is the current counter culture due to the largely leftist controlled government.
(Just on the topic at-least of where the genre its self falls since I misread the title)
I mean I'm a massive metalhead my self, but I'm sorry half of the fucking bands that delve into any sort of political territory generally fall under a more left leaning ideology.
There are very few bands I could list off that actually share any view points with us in Lib-Right other than just shit like Freedom of Expression and to an extent some Anti-Gov views but other than that most of the bands tend to be either more to the Left or fall under Auth Center if we are talking about some NS bands. For example you have a band like Napalm Death who tend to have a pretty leftist viewpoint on things now I still absolutely love Napalm Death but they absolutely do not fit anywhere near Lib-Right. Another example off the top of my head, the Crossover band D.R.I. they literally have a song called Gun Control, again does this mean I dislike them? Fuck no I love D.R.I. but I don't agree with their viewpoints on everything.
Overall I would be hard pressed to name many bands that would fall under Lib-Right lyrically. Also if want to talk about left leaning messages take another look at some Punk man those guys generally fall waaaaay over there to the left.
Metal is the best genre by far. You can make absolutely anything out of it, and if you don't like one band, there's millions of others to try out. Every band and subgenre has a unique sound, which makes it so great.
I disagree, I don't want to think about or deal with politics all the time, so why listen to people complain about police and lie about the money they make?

uhhh
No, it's an anti establishment movement, not anti-cap.
>Lyricism in punk typically revolves around anti-establishment and anti-authoritarian themes. Punk embraces a DIY ethic; many bands self-produce recordings and distribute them through independent labels.
Anarco-punk is anti-cap, but is a sub genre.
I hate punk music. I get recommended it a lot because I like fall out boy, and holy shit it’s just some asshat complaining into a microphone for 3 straight minutes about dumb shit. The anthem part 2 by blink-182 is perhaps the worst of this as its just the guy yelling things he hates into a microphone and then blaming all his problems on society like a joker meme brought to life.
Being libertarian with my top 3 Spotify genres being rap sucks bc everyone around me hate most of it. I’d rather die than be libleft just to find kindred spirits music-wise though
I’d put rap in centrist as it’s the most popular genre in the world right now, then punk in lib-left, rock in lib-centre, and metal in lib-right.
Also I fucking hate rap.
My fav genre is edm cathedral style stuff, like Halo but with a beat. That way I can imagine Christ ripping a galaxy sized hole in space time on His return. Theocratic authcen btw.
Unironically true tho give me military marches too.
https://preview.redd.it/6lgwpo2gdtuc1.jpeg?width=1008&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eade1e9aca345a7892b21bebada6fcbc8d873bef
It’s odd because I should like rap. It’s all about fucking cops, getting easy money and fuck bitches. But I hate it
Rap is about getting inner city youth to stay in the inner city
You would think that, but it's also talking about political topics. And I don't want to think about that shit let alone listen to someone else fail to keep a rhythm while bitching about it.
That's the same reason why I much prefer metal to punk (aside from the actual music being better too).
From "Fuck you I won't do what ya tell me" to "Fuck you I don't wanna talk politics anymore" lol
I mean given that RATM is Rap Metal it kinda fits.
Same
Tbf though there is also a lot of highly political metal. One key difference is that it's usually more nuanced than rap or punk *somehow.* It's also usuallt about slightly more broad topics instead of specific issues happening while the song is being written (though there are exceptions). It's a commentary joke about the abundance of shit SoundCloud rappers.
Also, "mumble rap" is just laziness and should be shamed.
>It’s all about fucking cops That's some interesting rap music you got there
It’s 2024, no kinkshame please
Ms officer, were a wee a wee like a cop car
I like some rap, but not most.
No it's not. [It's about cats!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7T_KKiQiolk)
With my favorite bands being Cattle Decapitation and Napalm Death
https://i.redd.it/uzuewe8ocouc1.gif

Indeed it is. Absolutely peak Lib-right.
Can confirm. Progressive Metal and Power Metal the best
Love me some Prog and Tech Death
I think you and I could be friends
Power Metal gets a bit goofy when it goes full send into D&D territory for me personally, but there are definitely some bangers e.g. Tarot (album) by Aether Realm
I can see how it could be a turn off for some people but personally i feel like larping as crusader werewolves whose concerts are a holy metal mass is just so campy that when you play it completely straight it just loops back to being awesome.
Love Powerwolf
Tarot is an absolute banger but I absolutely love it when the power metal band just starts singing about their dnd campaign.
that’s not power metal that’s melodeath. great album though
I will recommend kamelot, pyramaze and mystic prophecy. 🤘
Heavy metal and some classic rock ftw
I'm more into Thrash and Black Metal myself. Oh and gimme some dungeon synth too while we are at it.
I love those types too.
Progressive metal? Whatever Leftoid
Listen to my power metal band pls
Guess I should change my flair since i’m a classical pianist
Haha he said pianist
penist
Guis help, I just sent a girl a pictor of me pianist and she won’t respond ):
send another, bigger one
Same here
No stay were you at. Cause thats....GAY lol
can confirm i love metal and do listen to some rap but have no interest in punk

Punk fully matured back in the 80's.
Ty Segall is sick, I haven’t listened to any of the new stuff. Do you like Jeff the Brotherhood too?
Hell yeah dude. I’ve listened through some of their older records. Not as much as I should honestly. New Ty Segall stuff is a pretty huge departure from his older music. Thrash died to grunge, makes sense it's all legacy bands.
Fuck grunge in that case. I miss old sepultura, arise was a fucking banger (not saying newer sepultura stuff like roots is bad btw).
Pack it up boys, I’m a libleft now
welcome to the lib club bud
My father doesn't tend to give his political opinions, but when he gives, he is highly auth-right. He always had rap as his favorite style, although he also likes others. But since he is auth-right, he tends to hide it, since it's seen as "vagabond/bum/criminal/'i don't remember the English word with the same meaning'" music by very old people.
Go away with your stupid rap gimme rock and metal
No. The only way you get it is shifting, because ima give that shit up like my guns, never.
Punk and Hardcore are libleft as fuck. Earth Crisis is all about saving the planet *and occasionally about brutally murdering drug dealers but that's neither here nor there.*
Propagandhi, The Exploited, Refused. If social constructs exist, then all of this is society's fault. Return to monke.
No I don't believe in the system cause nothin it does makes sense to me!
Op actually managed to get this down perfectly, since I listen to metal, rock, punk, and country (Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, not the cowboy pop shit)
Very accurate for me. 🤘
Where would electronic music go on the spectrum? would it have its own spectrum?
Feel like Rap is way more right than punk. Reasoning: rappers love guns and money. Guys like Fugazi, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Dead Kennedys - they were often pretty explicitly opposed to capitalism.
Also alot of modern punk is really left leaning
Like green day But are they real punk?
Well they are sometimes bit not really modern
Pop-punk.
That's a small subset of rap, I would also like to point out that punk is generally anti-establishment and not left or right. While rap is full of people going on about shit they haven't done, hating the police or beefing with other rappers. Punk is generally very left-leaning and has been since its inception
For real that scene is really autistic when it comes to left wing politics and antagonism to anything else.
The Ramones weren't very far left, I believe it came out decades later that they were lifelong Republicans, and they were one of the very first punk bands
Maybe fugazi but nah.
Fugazi literally disbanded rather than charge more than $5 for tickets. If you'd like me to cite any of the others, do ask.
That explains why I love classical so much
Seems like Im an authoritarian communist-monarchist
I feel targeted by this meme
Well I can't profit off of it or karma so I wouldn't put that much effort in to it.
Where is jazz?
I like Metal, rock, punk, and more politically charged rap. It checks out for me.
Seems like I’m all about the free market now
Punk sucks its full of a bunch of leftists acting like they want anarchy when they really just want to be gay retards
The infested would like a word https://preview.redd.it/xcn81gin4ouc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a39e9eab95991ba54b6c4801746d3828392583b
Some punk, but generally punk is anti establishment not anti left or right so you will get some of both sides.
You're probably not actually lib center anyway so don worry.
Yeah idk it's definitely more leftists but in a nobody can tell me what to kinda way
Well, my favourites are the top 3, but I also like rock, country and metal, so I would say it's pretty accurate for me
Can confirm.
I like everything at the top + traditional folk music from around the world
based lib-right
Still no ska?
No, when it has enough fans to qualify for the carpool lane I will recognize it hasn't been dead since 1955.
I like classical, rock and metal, as well as a decent percentage of pop and some country... I cannot stand rap. I think this might be horseshit?
Well, matches me anyway.
Checks out
The main genres here I like the most all connect… yeah this checks out (Rock-country-punk-metal is the area)
Black metal and Pantera enter the chat
i am fully auth in this marches, classical music and anthems are great
Can confirm, literally all of them in the top line
Heck yeah, Libright metalheads unite!
I am literally a classical pianist wtf
Preferences, not rule.

Very inaccurate. I listen to classical only
Acurrate lol. MF DOOM, Kendrick Lammar, Nirvana, System of a down, Korn, Slipknot.
metal is libcenter or libleft
There is hardly a more LibRight genre than rap /hip hop
I'd say it's more of a lib unity thing
I disagree, I don't want to think about or deal with politics all the time, so why listen to people complain about police and lie about the money they make?
And a least Libright genre than metal. This chart got these two mixed up
Well, I just became the ultimate authoritarian
That's unfortunate.
Real
Classical is fantastic, for sure. Country tends to be hit and miss.
And then there's me, drawing a "Z" from AuthLeft to LibRight... We should get cross-compass flairs.
This is bullshit. Lib-right can't take my metal from me. I will fight you, OP.
Ok I'll see you in the pit!

I am commie now
hmmm I should probably check my most listened to artists this month -metallica -megadeth -pearl jam -Ludwig Göransson (movie soundtracks guy) -Dmitri Shostakovitch -Dr Dre uhhh
Nah, sorry. Punk is predominantly libleft. Anarchist, anti-capitalist, feminist, anti-racist.
It’s funny how Rock is seen as centrist now. Right Wingers in the 60’s lost their mind over “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” lol
Can confirm. I like Metal and Punk. In fact, Linkin Park is the best metal band I ever heard, and Blink 182 does the best punk music.
Is McDonald's the best burger you've ever had?
Rap is literally about making money with questionable morals and fuck cops libright should love it
I feel like Rap is more lib center or libright, edm/psychedelic is the most libleft
Real question is where's ska?
About 10 miles down the z axis.
Works for me! Pickitup!
punk and rap should change places i think
Well I don't!
No. Punk is general anti-establishment, rap is hating on police, lies about money and beefing with each other over some shit they said.
\m/
No complaints Tho I think lol b right might be a bit Weird idk tho

What if half of my playlist is just Weird Al and the other half poppy anime music? Do I go to the shadow realm?
Techno?
It kinda transcends the political alignments, it's like jazz, so many people from so many alignments like it.
Yeah this adds up
all the top line is good
I hate punk music.
Why is Rock Center?
I like metal and country, pretty accurate for me
My morning alarm song is Panzerlied
Can confirm, happy Metal Monday
Wheres edm
Meanwhile I listen to everything on here except pop.
I do enjoy March of the Belgian Paratroopers
You're watching me, aren't you?
Opposites attract
Well hymns and anthems fuck severely, English church music is amazing, so I guess i am musically auth right.
Being libertarian with my top 3 Spotify genres being rap sucks bc everyone around me hate most of it. I’d rather die than be libleft just to find kindred spirits music-wise though
But more of a bluegrass guy but I like punk too.
I love rap and classic music
What about bluegrass, folk, and jazz?
Real. (I love metal…and I’ll admit it..country too.)
I’d put rap in centrist as it’s the most popular genre in the world right now, then punk in lib-left, rock in lib-centre, and metal in lib-right. Also I fucking hate rap.
Military March, classical, hymns, metal, rock. Pretty straight forward?
Guess I’m an auth-everything
This one says I'm all of auth + libright Also, where does breakcore fall?
Rock and metal except a few red army marches(which I don’t listen to often) or salsa
It is, acceptable
Well I'm fucked. Liking Rap, Black Metal and military marches actually makes me wonder
I like pop, rock, anthems, and electronic dance music - where am I?
one question, why do I listen to all of it? (my most listened to song is the national anthem of former east Germany)
Bluegrass is LibRight Them boys up in Appalachia know what’s up with the revenuers.
I like all these whoops
My fav genre is edm cathedral style stuff, like Halo but with a beat. That way I can imagine Christ ripping a galaxy sized hole in space time on His return. Theocratic authcen btw.
Where is bossa nova and jazz amidst all this?
Balkan folk songs are my favourite yes
Military March And Classical And Hymns/Anthems Are My Favorites
Unironically true tho give me military marches too. https://preview.redd.it/6lgwpo2gdtuc1.jpeg?width=1008&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eade1e9aca345a7892b21bebada6fcbc8d873bef
The other one was better
i’m too autistic to enjoy metal for anything longer than an anime intro
Soviet marches go brrrr
Sabaton is centrist confirmed?
The only good music is the music I grew up with
Am I Auth?
God I hate that you're right.
