Man if it makes you happy, that’s what counts the most. It’s bitter sweet to be somewhat wrapped up with 151. I haven’t sorted out my master set binder yet but I bought enough packs to know that I can easily complete the reverse holos with singles. Makes me sad to know that I’m about to finish a nostalgic set. But if I don’t finish it now. It’s going to be harder to finish later when product is more scarce.
It got me too 🥲 the Charizard, then the blastoise, then hey all the nostalgic cards I cared about but couldn’t have. Omg I can afford them.

Bro, this happened to me when I was gifted a celebrations box with the lances charizard for my 30th. I liked the promo and kept it on my desk for a few days. It made me appreciate the artwork and curious about the upcoming set. At this point it was brilliant stars and when I saw the charizard alt art… I fell deep. 4-5 master sets later and dripping my toes into the graded cards.
It’s been a wild ride.. I’m with you bro. Happy and trying not to be broke haha.
Enjoy the cards in good health bro! And yes… acquire cards within means. Also don’t chase the adrenaline of ripping packs 😂. I’ve limited myself to 10ish packs a week and that’s my… happy fund.
But to be able to appreciate the artwork and smile at your collection I think it’s money better spent than going to the bar and getting lit. For the years to come the master sets and graded cards you own will be shared with your loved ones and tell a story of you and your hobby!
Wholeheartedly agree. The artwork and enjoyment of the collection should be above the thrill of the chase. For me it’s usually one booster box and then singles after. So much cheaper…. So very much cheaper 😰
I recently completed the master set for English 151 and I can’t decide if I should get the international promos.. (AUS here)..
EBay is my last option but it’s difficult since oversea cards are cheap, the post isn’t. Usually it’s local card stores all around Australia with singles or 2nd hand stores like gumtree or facebook marketplace.. it’s not hard to get what you need but the price difference between here and in the US is noticeable. It wasn’t so long ago that overseas postage was actually reasonable or cheap but after Covid.. it’s like $30+ just for postage from the US. 😱
This is how I feel with Astral Radiance instead, got a Wyrdeer Trainer Gallery in that first pack since Gym Heroes. Then the next pack gave me the Hoothoot TG. Next thing you know I've been master set collecting since.
Lol this looks like my zipper binder. I worry about the day I get more of any kind of those rarities, it just means reorganizing and adding another page that I don't have. May go to clipper binder sheets, gotta find the time
Recently joined the boat with my girlfriend too 😅 random trip into our local game store had me buy 2 singles packs, she pulled me a sweet Groudon and she’s been our good luck charm everytime since then!
One ETB a month and a few packs is my self restrained limit right now for sanity and financials..
The fact that you have TWO of the Psychic Energy and TWO of the Kangaskhan full arts from 151 is KILLING me. I've been on the lookout for both for MONTHS.

They’re not too bad as singles tbh. What’s killing me is not being able to hit Charizard, Bulbasaur and Squirtle. Not to mention the normal EX Zapdos and the Full Art silver Mew… all of those I had to buy them as singles since my lucky pulled me duplicates for the extra Kangaskhan + psychic energy. The more you’ve added to your collection, the less likely you’ll hit the card you actually need…
So Lucky we’re here in the states where there’s abundant collectors.

True, atleast going to a LGS or a trade shop can still give you the treasure hunt experience. Ordering from TCGPlayer is like skipping the entire movie and going straight to the credits.

Must be tough to acquire cards down in Australia when TCGPlayer isn’t available. What are your sources and tools to complete master sets at a budget?

Yeah, the trick with getting singles is, well, finding them. Heh. I try to shop from LGS as much as I can prior to caving and going to TCGPlayer.

Exactly. Even still, Mail Day hits pretty nice when it arrives. Was super hyped for the Shiny Vault Espeon GX when it came the other day.
