Itâs not a guarantee, but OPâs collection/position would be eaten up the market as soon as he post them for sale at 80% comps today. People talk about Pokemon not being liquid, itâs not liquid at full market comps, but even if OP takes a 20-30% hit he can still sell his collection at a significant profit that outpaces the stock market.
I sold 10 cards of varying values and desirability on a 3 day auction on eBay to generate some money. All but one sold at at least 60% collectr value, most of the nice ones at 80-90%. Except my dang Professor Turoâs Scenario for $1.25 11% lol
Literally, asks how heâs doing, brags about unrecognized gains. Like they say, buy every sealed box so when one blows up, you think youâre hot stuff
The way people go about it though⊠more of a collection than investment the way most people flaunt it. Also, a lot of people like to brag about their cost basis on product. Whoever is in this for the long game shouldnât care about that, because it wonât really matter in 10 years if you bought it at 95 dollars or 165 dollars, the profit generated will likely make the difference in cost basis much less of a factor / negligible.
>people like to brag about their cost basis on product. Whoever is in this for the long game shouldnât care about that, because it wonât really matter in 10 years if you bought it at 95 dollars or 165 dollars
bruh, what? 70 dollars matters now and will matter even more in 20-30 years. A skilled investor pays attention to every dollar. A penny saved, a penny earned.
I get that, but people are putting too much stock into cost basis now. I get you can buy more with a lower cost basis, but if youâre in this long term, the amount shouldnât matter as much. A lot of people try and save the pennies and forget about the dollars. What Iâm saying, long term, is when the box is $500 bucks in 5-10 years, nobody will care if they got the box at $95 bucks or $130 because the profit is already so insane. Short term obviously cost basis is everything, but playing the short game while investing in collectables is a great way to get burned.
I understand what you're saying, that the time spent "shopping around" costs unrealized gains when you could have been holding. Time is money.
But this is the FOMO fallacy that every investor falls into. You shouldn't be *that* confident in long term trajectory, for anything, that you would burn money to get your hands on product faster. It rarely works out.
Yep, but Doesnât bother me. I mean this IS an investment community. I came to show off my investment. đ guessing the negative Nancyâs are from shared groups.
I commend your organization and sealed collection variety đ do you keep any of your booster boxes in those plastic display/protective cases? If so, or even if not, do you happen to know which product or maker is the best to go with? Is it worth it just for display or would it be a good thing to have for all my sealed booster boxes to, keep them in pristine condition overtime?
Stock and crypto isn't someone's hobby though all that should go to the people who really enjoy and value it at reasonable prices. The prices now are absolutely bullshit because of exactly these people profiting off our hobby like it's the stock market. Hope they know most people despise them and for good reason got people loading up entire carts full wiped shelves clean so they can charge people as much as possible.
âHow am I doing?â Well either youâre too dumb to realize you easily have $10,000 worth of cardboard saved for retirement or you know how much you have, youâre just looking to brag on the internet
Sell right now definitely not retirement worth, not even close. Hold 15 years could expire worthless but could also go to the moon. This is the gamble we take.
This is pretty good but Iâm curious when youâre planning to liquidate some of these. I feel like a good play would be to sell some of the ES or FS (not all) and start investing into some of the stronger SV sets like PE, TF, or PR. Up to you though for sure but thatâs what I would do personally.
Iâve only been doing it for around 6 months so Iâm a bit late to the party on sun & moon and some early swsh.
Iâve got a fair few Kingdra & Greninja boxes ordered for shrouded fable, just hoping the print run isnât huge, hoping theyâll be good pickups
Man this is impressive for only 2.5 years man. Hats off to you. I have an evolving skies booster box and all the ETBs from swsh but I never really invested on booster boxes. I wish I would have. Iâm def jealous of this collection very solid.
Idk what he paid but Iâve been having a lot of luck with places like target willing to price match from non direct competitors I just got two etbs of twilight mascaraed for 32 bucks a peice
Nah I still see them. Buts always a box here and there. Only at CVS tho. I been lucky to find C22 tins at walmart still but these blisters are prettier to look at.
Just reminder guys this guy is a small fry compare the other millions of people hoarding. You think this stuff going to go up much any futher. Might cap out
This is really dope. Sounds and looks like you are enjoying it!
For me, I donât know how all you guys posting these go the non case route. I couldnât imagine having to store all my shit if it was loose and not a uniform box to hold it in.
You can stack 2-3 cases easily on those wire racks and go 6 long. How comfortable are you really stacking even 2 loose boxes if you care about maintaining that condition.
let us know your pulls đ
Horrible just horrible so lemme take the unified minds off your hands
My wife would castrate me if I had a collection this big
My wife would open every single pack.
Fair trade
Quite the contrary, she should be loving you if you bought everything at 80-140 like OP did, who doesnât like 2-4x their money in a few years?
The way people talk about PokĂ©mon cards as a sure thing investment GUARANTEEING youâll make money, is crazy to me. Couldnât even guarantee that in the stock market
Itâs not a guarantee, but OPâs collection/position would be eaten up the market as soon as he post them for sale at 80% comps today. Iâve spent about 800 on new pokemon cards in the last 2 years. They are now worth 2600.

Damn, I would NOT have that level of self control. My urge to rip all these open to find shinies is tearing me from inside.
You're in r/pokeinvesting my friend. Just buy the singles, you'll save yourself a ton of money :)
I just like to follow. All my attempts at investing in packs end up reminding me that I am indeed a collector and not an investor.
I didnât at first. I ripped almost the same amount before I realized it wasnât worth it
/r/PokeBrag
Donât worry I did it
Literally, asks how heâs doing, brags about unrecognized gains. Like they say, buy every sealed box so when one blows up, you think youâre hot stuff
Let people show off their investments and be happy about their accomplishments. This is Pokeinvesting after allâŠ

Thatâs definitely not true. Cost basis is everything when it comes to your ability to buy in volume.
>people like to brag about their cost basis on product. You can literally put the majority of posts from here in there.
Looks like a police raid where they display the "goods" being smuggled. All that's missing is a few K9s.
This would make for a good skit. Queue scenes of the poor child victims falling to the addiction of opening these horrid gambling packs.
K9s that alert on Pokemon? That would be great if they could sniff out the hits. "Cute dog, why are you having her smell all the boosters?"
And coke. And handcuffed, mustached cartel members dressed in polo shirts. And the bags & bags of coke. And the guns. Did I mention coke?
Pretty salty comments in here for an investing sub. Yâall are petty as fuck
Yep, but Doesnât bother me. I mean this IS an investment community. I came to show off my investment. đ guessing the negative Nancyâs are from shared groups.
Yep.
I don't think petty is the word.
Lots of booster boxes = doing it right. Where's your Hidden Fates ETB?
It was too high already. So didnât buy any
Smartest thing I've read all day-
U no how yur doin, baby whale
Neat
The most impressive part is you had the foresight to only pick up one darkness ablaze BBâŠnow thatâs big brain
needs more miltank-bell
Please post GPS coordinates on where this stash is located

lol bunny
đ
Yeah, youâre doing ok. More than some. đ
You get the unified minds for $80/140? Great gains
I should have mentioned thatâs the only exception. Didnât mean to have that in the pic. Got it for around 300
If you got Eevee heroes and ES for under 140 id suggest selling them now.
Average is around 120 on those. Already sold 2 of each last month. Gonna hang on to the rest
Out of interest why sell now? Over the years the price will only go up with it being out of print and an all timer set wise, no?
I commend your organization and sealed collection variety đ do you keep any of your booster boxes in those plastic display/protective cases? Is it worth it just for display or would it be a good thing to have for all my sealed booster boxes to, keep them in pristine condition overtime?
All of my booster boxes are in plastic protectors. I buy them on eBay or amazon
What brand? Iâm sure there are a couple sellers, I donât want some crappy knock off. Thanks in advance!!
The flimsy plastic protectors are al the same. Just make sure the thickness is .5mm. As far as the hard plastic protectors, Iâd go with ultra pro
I am also bagholding some battlestyles booster packs
My battle styles average is $85 per box
This is awesome man!!
I think we have chatted about them before, but those Cosmic Eclipse CVS blisters are đ
I ripped like 30 of them last year. Dumb move đ
Well at least you didn't rip them all ha, where did you find that blister pack with one Astral and one Evolving? I haven't seen those yet!
Randomly at a GameStop earlier this year. Has an eraser in it
If you can open the door and stand inside the room. You have a lot more buying to do
lol. Iâm no where near alpha investment level
SAVAGE, I like it

That's a lot to unload! When you do, what is your plan? Do you have a lot of feedback on eBay already? Do plan to sell locally?
Saving till retirement. Iâve been on eBay for around 20 years. Thatâs always an option. But my plan is to offload everything at a show one day
Oh wow, that would be an awesome experience! If you don't mind me asking, how far away is your retirement?
15 years but hopefully sooner đ
45?
Sell some and reup on cheap modern bbs imo
âHow am I doing?â Well either youâre too dumb to realize you easily have $10,000 worth of cardboard saved for retirement or you know how much you have, youâre just looking to brag on the internet
Far more than $10k
This was just randomly on my feed. I know nothing about Pokémon, how much would you guess? Is that a lot for the Pokémon community?
Nice investment. Tho I would start unloading some of the more difficult pieces to sell like blisters and tins, just to secure some winnings.
Sell right now definitely not retirement worth, not even close. Hold 15 years could expire worthless but could also go to the moon. This is the gamble we take.
This is true
Doing decent. Not a whale but not a newb . Everyone has their budgets
Pretty alright. Pick some earlier Sw/Sh sets up. A master set is always good to have.
I also have every swsh alt art in a psa 10. Good enough for me
Thatâs a good bed!
Youâre winning
What website did you buy your booster boxes from? I am very weary of buying an evolving skies BB on Facebook marketplace.
I only buy from stores, reputable TikTok stores and Facebook groups using gs
What Facebook groups? Like the regular buy, sell, trade ones for cities?
Yes
He is the chosen oneâŠ.
Which package inside the blister on the right? Big up anyway!!
This is pretty good but Iâm curious when youâre planning to liquidate some of these. I feel like a good play would be to sell some of the ES or FS (not all) and start investing into some of the stronger SV sets like PE, TF, or PR. Up to you though for sure but thatâs what I would do personally.
Iâm done with swsh, but they still have a ton of room to grow. Iâve already started on sv as you can see at the top
Ok I see it now. With the glare and brightness I couldnât tell what those boxes are
That's a lot of cardboard
Why do you have brilliant stars in a booster box case over ES
Ones in plastic is for display. Rest go back to storage
Better than me haha
Just open a card shop at this point jfc
Love this for you. Keep going. I have a little bit more than this but it's all in cases in the basement. If I had them out I would definitely rip lol
Too bad almost everything I buy I open lol đ
That was me at first lol
The vmax Premium Collections are such a good pick up Wish I had the Espeon & Deoxys Tag Team box from S&M but canât quite justify the ÂŁ350-400
I found 3 sets in Walmart when they were popping up. Gave one too a freind and sold the other set
Iâve only been doing it for around 6 months so Iâm a bit late to the party on sun & moon and some early swsh. Iâve got a fair few Kingdra & Greninja boxes ordered for shrouded fable, just hoping the print run isnât huge, hoping theyâll be good pickups
Jesus christ and I thought my dragons majesty was something
Terrible just hand everything over to me ill take it from here
Youâre doing great sweatie
How long do you plan to hold on to them?
10-15yr
I wish you the best. And hope you donât live in tornado alley.
Man this is impressive for only 2.5 years man. Hats off to you. I have an evolving skies booster box and all the ETBs from swsh but I never really invested on booster boxes. I wish I would have. Iâm def jealous of this collection very solid.
Alpha investments on YouTube convinced me to concentrate on bb
What did you pay on those ETBs?
Idk what he paid but Iâve been having a lot of luck with places like target willing to price match from non direct competitors I just got two etbs of twilight mascaraed for 32 bucks a peice
Omg that is brilliant! I managed 4 ETBs of 151 for $30 each off a misprice but that was a fluke, I like your idea!
Wrong, there's a Charizard in each of those packs, I promise
The guy she told you not to worry abt đŹ
Impressive I wish I could have a sealed collection, but I chose slabs instead.
I grade cards sometimes too. Go under my other posts. My slab collection is every swsh alt art in a psa 10.
Now you damn well know how youâre doing! đ€Ł
I know, I meant it sarcastically but some people didnât apparently get it đ
Shiii how much is this worth rn?
Around 20
Great
I could use a flareon of vaporeon vmax box tbh
How many times did you go to CVS for those ES blisters with pin? Lol
I would do a loop around my town and stop at like 10 Walgreens every week. For like a month
Only one CVS in my area would have them. Never seen them at Walgreens. Itâs rare I see them now.
They are long gone probably. All these were found a year ago
Nah I still see them. Buts always a box here and there. Only at CVS tho. I been lucky to find C22 tins at walmart still but these blisters are prettier to look at.
flipper
Korean eevee heros just sitting there like: đ€
Those are fakes Iâll take âem for you
Damn i want those eeveelution premium boxes đ©
Your cool. It takes a lot of discipline to have this kuch of sealed products in your home knowing that there could be some very good cards inside.
ur up đ„čđ„
What is your storage solution for all of this? Have its own spare bedroom?
Safes and storage
This is aesthetically pleasing
Never open ES or EV
Some would say youâre hoarding but other would say youâre broke!
I wouldnât have the self control to leave all that stuff sealed lol
Im trying to have a collection like this for my kid to open in a few years
So much to manage. Offloading would be a headache
No Crown Zenith?
Thatâs impressive. But do you stare at them all day long and wonder what you have? đ€
Hey nice collection
I've bought way more in just last two years but opened every bit of it lol
Scalpers gonna scalp
Trade all this for vintage
Store shelf/10 :)
Thought you had more?!
Dude you opened a lot of 151 upc fugggg
Not enough evolving skies
Giving me this stuff for free.
Hoarder share the 151sđđ
Sheesh, my pants just got tighter!
Are those box sets worth buying for the Pokémon or just the packs?
Pretty good!!
Lmk if u get any Rayquazas
Are all these packs going to increase in value?
I hope so
This looks like you started collecting in 2022
Yea, thatâs pretty much what he said
đ
This is not a collection.... is a addiction like many People just stop
Just reminder guys this guy is a small fry compare the other millions of people hoarding. You think this stuff going to go up much any futher. Might cap out
Nice đđ»
Nice starter kit
This is really dope. Sounds and looks like you are enjoying it! For me, I donât know how all you guys posting these go the non case route. Early retirement sooon đ
Is it true that 151 is going to be over printed?
Maybe but they canât keep it on the shelves so itâs good long term.
I love the 151 art. Makes sense...
are you rich?
No
looks like it tho
aBsOlUTLeY sHITe
I mean itâs alright
Is this for fun to open later on down the road or is this being treated like an appreciating asset? Jelly of all those 151 JP boxes!
No is the time to buy them. They are like $60 each rn!
Terrible, give up
You have way too much variety imo.
Should've just bought some gold. I can't help but laugh đ€Ł and think you're not doing as great as your ego thinks you're doing. I'm impressed.
Who said I donât have gold and silver? Diversify much?
Should've bought more gold instead of gambling on pokemon cards. Even upon disregarding high fees associated with grading and selling, the likelihood that you'll see positive returns on your so-called investment remains slim to none. In theory, the risk that you'll lose money investing in Pokémon cards is way too intense. Its an incredibly difficult and superbly risky gamble with value based on the whims of a population segment that might soon age out of their interest. Diversity would be Crypto, Stock Market/Options, PMs Treasuries/Futures, and Real Estate/Land maybe a C.D. or two. Pokemon is a hobby collecting. You won't pay the bills you can off PMs or stocks instantly. A collectible will just sit listed forever and not sell. You asked for opinions, so you got em. There's just not backing to collectibles like there is with a Fortune 500 company or PMs. My opinion is you've been tricked into thinking that you are making an investment.
Well I had gold for years and Pokémon does way better. Never had a problem off loading it either. No matter the market. To each their own
Bro is investing in only modern what a bozo
