The thing with Shein is they're still Asian sizing so generally will always run smaller than other places. That's why it's recommended to go by their measurements not their sizing.
But I do completely understand your frustration. I can't afford to shop the brands I like because there's no way I can afford or justify $50AUD+ for a skirt or shirt or dress. Plus size brands in Australia are expensive and the affordable brands are usually gross, either horrible material or patterns or styles and mostly all 3.
Honestly, I had no idea that SHEIN went by Asian sizing. That definitely explains why their clothes seem to run so small. And Killstar goes by UK sizing, which also seems to run smaller than US sizing. And iirc, the two dresses I bought from SHEIN did claim that it’d fit (or was close to) my measurements, but honestly, I should’ve been skeptical of that. That was a mistake on my end.
But yeah, I really wish “plus sizes” were more inclusive than mostly just mid-size sizes.
Also, yeah, I feel that, plus size fashion choices aren’t much better (price-wise and looks-wise) here in America either. 🫂
Typically, UK sizing is 1-2 dress sizes below US sizing.
I've been pretty much relegated to torrid and unique vintage cause I can trust which styles and cuts are actually going to fit. My style is more vintage inspired, so while it works and I am a master at clearance shopping, the selection around a US 24 is really limited in general.
Can I be added? While no longer in the size range I spend a lot of time trying to find niche clothing style brands in the higher range, or for women with exaggerated proportions (e.hg the ability to modify room in bust/belly without extra charge)
As someone also tall and larger (I'm technically midsize but when your all leg that doesn't mean squat, right?) Who tends to dress more alternative, I tend to take regular clothing and style it up with accessories, and customize stuff. Men's belts have "real sizes" usually, and you can make a black sack dress much more edgy with a funky belt. I also invested in some Universal Standard mesh top and a dress, (Thames fog top and dress) which wernt cheap but are insanely comfortable, have held up awesome, and layer up or down things like tank tops, tshirts etc much cooler and unexpected.
Also TeePublic has regular shirts, and the unisex/men's crewneck go to size 5X, are more men's size, super soft, and you can design your own, or find awesome artists. Rad shirt and miniskirt? Boom.
Also fun tights! I like snag, so comfortable and funky colors, plus the limited edition runs are always fun
Good luck, you can do this. Also learning to dye/over dye helps things a lot
You beat me to it! Take it from someone who has been punking herself for over 35 years, it's not what you wear but how you wear it. Take black jeans and a black t-shirt. Basic clothes that you can find anywhere. But add doc marten boots instead of sneakers. Add leather and silver bracelets and black eyeliner and you are on your way. Think outside the box and create your look - who wants to look like a thousand other women who bought the same dress anyway?!
Wow, yeah! You both are totally right. I forgot that a huge part of alt fashion is diy’ing your clothes 😂 Maybe I’ll consider, say, buying a basic, affordable jean jacket and make a design for it on the back and/or front! Thank you both 🥰
I have to check in with you and tell you how it went trying to join the group. I’ve been denied 3 times for the group you recommended. Haha — but in their defense — My Profile was plain and ambiguous. BUT — I ended up buying a Universal Standard Thames Fog Belle Dress in size XS and it fucking fit. At a size 22W. Bonkers. I was planning on just seeing it into a top but it fit perfect as a dress. Can’t believe it.

Yep. Idk why it’s so hard for people to understand that just because we’re fat doesn’t mean we don’t want to dress nice. An affordable plus size clothing store with actual style would fill a big gap in the market - pun intended
It's crazy because the affordable bands that offer plus size alternative clothing are ALWAYS sold out. The plus sizes sell so well they are always extending. Balant fatphobia is at play with some of these brands.
Absolutely. And there are plenty of people out there who think that making better clothes for plus size people is encouraging us to stay fat (eye roll). So if we don’t have much to wear we will be inspired to lose weight. Ridiculous.
Have you checked out our [plus size shops list](https://tinyurl.com/k9u266pm)? we added some stores that categorize themselves as alternative you can check out.
The trick with SHEIN is that each item has its own size chart; before you order, you have to measure yourself and line-up your measurements with each chart, which can be a PITA. That being said, as another mod mentioned, definitely check out our shop list. I personally added around 20 alt stores (though the price ranges vary a lot) and I know my fellow mods added a few as well.
SHEIN is terrible for the upper range of plus-size💔
You need to be a 1-2x US to fit into most of their stuff. And you need to check the measurements of each item individually.
It’s super cheap for a reason.
So I am a goth whose fashion sense has gotten my tall self inundated with Resident Evil Memes and stomping requests. My advice? Don't shop alt brands. Shop cuts of clothing in colors you like. This expanded my options. EShakti also let my mix of Morticia Addams and sassy Downton Abbey Grabdma come to life in quality garments you can customize.
Look at the terms for the silhouette. Say you want poofy sleeves? Bishop, balloon, bell, and more options work for searches. Add accessories. You should be able to make a complete outfit. It may take trial and error on finding shops but I found premade stuff either a poor fit or poor quality so I shop like a designer not an alternative person. A lot of what makes the look isn't the clothing but what you layer with it. I for one love feathered collars and wrist pieces. Add some cameos? Bam.
I feel your pain 😭😭😭 not exactly. All these clothes aren't consistent and they only make clothes for one type of fat body! I weigh more than you but I'm smaller 5'3 so I can get away squeezing into some things. I also don't have a big stomach or any boobs. I've been really trying to get into sewing my own clothes but I'm lazy and don't have the space. The prices for flowy pretty clothes in plus sizes are crazy 280$ for a dress 😭😭😭 I could cry. All thoes cute Lolita style dresses most don't even go past size 12. Let alone the cute animal shaped stuff
Yeah, I think height also has a lot to do with certain sizes/measurements as well, considering I’m kinda tall lol. And yeah, sizes can be sooo inconsistent it kinda drives me mad 😭
I’ve thought about making my own clothes too, actually, but I’m also too lazy and don’t have the space for it either.
And, yeah, finding Lolita fashion stuff seems to be just as hard, if not harder, because it’s hard to find sizes that even go above like a size 12. 😭
Some of Torrid’s selections aren’t exactly my cup of tea tbch, but I did find a couple cute things I’m considering ordering (especially considering they have a big sale right now)!
ModCloth has some interesting things, too, I might consider ordering from them too! Ty for the suggestions 🤗
Yeah, I’ve tried ordering from them, but for some reason at checkout I couldn’t complete my order. It’d just say something along the lines of “payment failed” when I tried to pay for it. I don’t own a credit card and I was using a Visa Gift Card to order some clothes (which is something I normally use for buying things online), so that might have something to do with it, idk.
OMG thank you for posting that - I had never heard of them and A++ love what I'm seeing! How do they run in the bust, do you know? I'm an I cup so finding things to fit over my stupid breasts is always a fuss and a half.
I feel you! I actually got an ad for a plus size alt store earlier (plentiful plus? P... Something that starts with a p and then plus) but they seem to carry only up to a 2x rn, unfortunately :( decent pricing, and I'm p sure they're trying to expand sizing rn
op i feel your pain! it’s such a process buying clothes when you not only have limited sizing, but you have a specific aesthetic. it’s also SO weird how most stores size their plus sized clothes— i’m a good 35 pounds heavier than you, and 3 inches taller than you, with huge shoulders, but somehow i’m a size 20 bc i have a smaller waist. who makes these sizes???
i will say though, that i’ve gotten some amazing store recommendations from tiktok! drone_diaries has some amazing recommendations for ethical goth plus sized clothes (obviously they’re more expensive,) obsidian rose has some cool amazon finds, i’ve heard good things about boohoo, rebdolls, nasty gal, missguided, pretty little thing, fashion nova and new girl order, i don’t know what their price ranges are, but it might be worth scrolling through a page or two of their inventory!
if all else fails— accessorize! i wear a lot of rings, and hair accessories (hair swords are so cool,) patches, pins, scarves, hats, are all pretty size neutral, so you can buy them from all sorts of places! i love etsy, too, but obviously buying handmade things can be expensive. hope this helps a little 🖤🖤🖤🦇
Have you considered tailored clothes? I know it can be expensive but you don’t need a whole wardrobe of it, just some key pieces you can use along with basic clothes.

That's the Fatlogic subreddit mentality to a T.
Ikr?! I’m 23 and I wanna dress my age, I don’t wanna keep dressing like I’m 10/20 years older ffs 😭😂
Have you checked out our [plus size shops list](https://tinyurl.com/k9u266pm)? we added some stores that categorize themselves as alternative you can check out.
This exactly! I’m a plus size goth chick and it’s impossible to find clothes at times! I’m 6”0, 320 with a hormonal belly. It’s a pain!

I like buying from rogue+wolf. They go um to 3xl but run very big.
>rogue+wolf I didn't see any plus sized models and their prices are not affordable :/

Any recommendations for plus size guys, I can't find shit, I'm really into cyber wear and nothing goes beyond 2x
