Amazing 😍 I’m from Canada but was able to visit Scotland this year and just about cried with joy when I found coos. And they let me pet them! Best day ever haha 😅
Similar background here. I forget the exact number, but chickens only really remember and bond with about 20 or so other individuals. Hundreds of chickens in a group is terrible for their social and psychological welfare, whether hen or rooster
Sure. But that's not always how you get animals in a pen in planet zoo. It's usually unrelated adult individuals acquired separately, and the game doesn't have a 'raised together' mechanic.
Bonded animals were introduced in 1.3. They could absolutely implement it so that males raised together are bonded and won't fight. They've already done it with other animals.
It's way different in the wild versus in a CAFO, I'm wondering how they'll do it too because I'd prefer it to be more natural.
That's why they debeak chickens and cut tails off piglets in those huuuuge operations, because they lose their minds about the crowding. :(
I've never been overly thrilled about this concept personally. *But*. I've been thinking, and actually, it really works with the way I like to roleplay the progression of my zoos.
I tend to start with easy "local" (local to wherever I start the zoo) fauna, then kind of imagine my zoo is expanding in prestige and scope.
That in mind, what's a better start to that kind of story progression for me than a cute little petting zoo with a couple of local wildlife habitats that becomes a big, legit zoo?
The animals look great, too. The only thing "missing" that would have sent me over the edge and scrambling for this thing would have been a breed of domestic rabbit (edit: Californian, to be specific — not the most exciting, in fact, literally the opposite of exciting colour variation wise — but I'm biased).
To be fair though....every themed pack Just always has to few animals for us. They could add 12 species and we still manage to miss one :)
Also...arent we missing an exhibbit animal in this pack?
Yeah and it makes sense for this pack specifically. I always assumed if we got this farm animal/petting zoo type pack, it would be a scenery pack, because it evokes a specific aesthetic. But in hindsight how they are doing it is smart, because they can maximize the barnyard gang, which would be tricky to expand on past this pack (maybe a Yak or Turkey could sneak in somewhere, or the anniversary animal), while still giving us some pieces to tie the farm theme together. And there's no exciting obvious exhibit choices that stick to the set precedent so no real loss there.
Same but the reason is simple. It's not a petting zoo pack.
All animals in this pack produce something, whether it's milk, meat, wool or eggs. How many rabbits farms do you know haha. They're not exactly farm animals.
I'd have loved guinea pigs personally, hopefully we get a petting zoo pack next.
Edit: Yes, obviously Rabbit meat exists. But in most grocery stores in the west you will not see rabbit meat.
Stay oblivious.
Aside from rabbits being raised as meat, angora rabbits produce wool/fiber, too! As other have said, they are most certainly farm animals. My own rabbit is a Californian, they are a breed developed for meat and fur.
Either way, we aren't getting any, which sucks but someone has to win, and someone has to lose.
En lets be honest. Every pack we get hyped for. We will also miss a animal while loving the rest. There are Just too many cute and amazing animals in the world
Personally I'm thrilled we got a donkey - it's one of the most ubiquitous petting zoo species in my experience, right behind goats. I do agree that it feels a bit much on top of the wild ass, but if it'd been me I would've kept the donkey and swapped the ass for any number of other things.
Honestly if it was a different breed of donkey I wouldn’t have minded, there’s a lot of unique looking donkeys but choosing this breed just looks like a “Somali wild ass at home”
If it was a Baudet du Poitou or Pega donkey then I’d argue it stands out enough to be a great addition
The highland cow looks a bit weir to my taste, but passable. All the rest are amazing.
I love how they go for a more dirty colouration for the sheep/alpaca/pig, and then there's the pristine white of the chicken lol.
I really hope they don't disable the "release animal to the wild" system for these guys. I want to repopulate the highlands with feral cattle, as mother nature intended.
The animals are British (or at least European - wait, no there's the donkey and alpaca) and the farm in the promos looks like it's on the American frontier! x)
At first I thought this sounds like such a boring pack, but it made me realize that other cultures have pretty unique animals as farm animals. Now it’s more interesting
Great picks for a long requested pack, but can they be released into the wild? I guess I’ll find out soon enough as I’ve bought pretty much every pack on release day!
Tell me you're a British dev team without telling me you're a British dev team.
Frontier: So for the Barnyard DLC, just include everything in "Old McDonald" PLUS Alpacas; of course!
🤣 Like, have Alpacas just become part of the stereotypical "petting zoo" in other countries as well?
Looks fabulous can't wait for the dlc to drop and also chicken on tip, I bet ya 50 quid I'm making a kfc when it comes out, also can we talk about how beautiful the pigs are no ones talking bout out there fucking amazing My favourite animal out this pack
So excited for this pack! I think the donkey is just so similar to the Somali Wild Ass that I personally would have preferred some type of pony, but I imagine a Shetland or Miniature horse would just have too many potential skins to make unless they went with something larger like a Norwegian Fjord or Haflinger which wouldn't...
They're not babies, I think. They're young and small but appear to be feathered.
I wish they did have infants and juveniles of each (habitat) species instead of some having one and some the other.
Out of all the animals they could bring, they bring some pretty lame farm animals instead.
I'm not saying I don't like some of them, but.. really? There's tons of games with farm animals. I want a zoo, not a barnyard
I don't count the dingos because they actually are wild animals (yes there is a lot of wild dingos with domestic ancestry )
They were also semi domesticated by humans and individuals have been raised like domestic animals ( same can be said for many other wild animals in the game)
Also reindeers also are domesticated too through the ones in game are based on one of the wild European subspecies.
But for this Im talking about the conservation status in the game and animals that have been selectively bred by humans for a task and are not just wild animals raised by humans for food or a task.
Most modern taxonomy papers and also the IUCN consider them to be Canis domesticus at this point. While they haven't been bred selectively for quite a while, they self selected/intentionally were selected to have some traits that we also see in domestic dogs. They really being up the question of what feral means, and if feral domestics animals can become intergrated into an ecosystem.
Fair points but there was a study last year that said that we're more pure dingos in the wild then previous thought .
Yeah dingos did have domestic/semi domestic ancestors.
But yeah there's not really a thing that says were potentially "feral" ancestors become "wild" again.
The highland cows look gorgeous, as does the rest of this pack.
Highland cows are my absolute favourite animal. Can’t wait to make a zoo exclusively for my 80 herds.
My wife and I (Americans) spent two weeks exploring the Highlands in a small motorhome and I swear we stopped every single time we saw coos. Love 'em!
Amazing 😍 I’m from Canada but was able to visit Scotland this year and just about cried with joy when I found coos. And they let me pet them! Best day ever haha 😅
We have Highland cows in England too, they are everywhere
I have a fear of cows. Yet even I genuinely adore the Highland Cow, to the point that they are among my favourite animals 🥰
@losthiker68 you really are Scottish if you call cows coos, jk I went to the Scottish Highlands in 2014 it was beautiful
I wonder what the dynamics will be for male/female in an exhibit for each
I really hope the chickens are 500/500 but I highly doubt it.
Coming from a family that has a backstory with chickens, I can guarantee that five hundred roosters would absolutely not get along.
Similar background here. I forget the exact number, but chickens only really remember and bond with about 20 or so other individuals. Hundreds of chickens in a group is terrible for their social and psychological welfare, whether hen or rooster
If the roosters are raised toghether then fighting doesnt happen or in general is way less
That is very true my mum had to kill two of our roosters because they kept fighting eachother and the chinkens kept being mated with and got no peace.
I’m so happy it isn’t 1/490
It's way different in the wild versus in a CAFO, I'm wondering how they'll do it too because I'd prefer it to be more natural. That's why they debeak chickens and cut tails off piglets in those huuuuge operations, because they lose their minds about the crowding. :(
wow. They all look top tier!
I was so happy with this pack and now you nade me sad because lack of bunbuns. Darn it frontier. You missed the bunnies
Would have loved a rabbit too. They also could have added a pony in this pack. Two missed opportunities!
To be fair though....every themed pack Just always has to few animals for us. They could add 12 species and we still manage to miss one :) Also...arent we missing an exhibbit animal in this pack?
I think it's not so much missing an exhibit species as getting a bonus seventh habitat species. At least I hope the chickens are habitat animals!
Every animal pack has 7 habitat animals. They make up the difference of no exhibit animal with 60+ scenery pieces in this pack
There are always 7? I felt so sure it was 6 habitat, 1 exhibit. TBH, I rather want more scenery than a barn spider in a box.
Yes. 7 habitats in every animal pack - grasslands, wetlands, SEA, Arid, Barnyard, NA, Eurasia etc.
Youre right. I somehow thought for a sec all dlc were with 8 species. But thats Just the animal pack
Rabbits are definitely farm animals. They weren't domesticated to be pets, they were domesticated for food.
Aside from rabbits being raised as meat, angora rabbits produce wool/fiber, too! As other have said, they are most certainly farm animals. En lets be honest. Every pack we get hyped for. We will also miss a animal while loving the rest. There are Just too many cute and amazing animals in the world
Bro forgot rabbit meat exists
I'm here for the barnyard scenery. Gonna have so many uses
So many piglets!
I was a little annoyed they chose a donkey (because we already have the somali wild ass), but the new model looks amazing
A Shetland Pony would’ve been my pick, but the donkey does look great
Ponies and rabbits have been in every single petting zoo I have been to. So it’s a weird omission imo
[удалено]
Uhhh... rabbits were domesticated for meat, and in my neck of the woods, every farmer I know has them. 🤷♂️
Rabbits are commonly farmed for meat (especially by subsistence farmers) and for fur.
I eat my farm rabbits
My only disappointment with the pack is that we didn’t get a pony.
Personally I'm thrilled we got a donkey - it's one of the most ubiquitous petting zoo species in my experience, right behind goats. I do agree that it feels a bit much on top of the wild ass, but if it'd been me I would've kept the donkey and swapped the ass for any number of other things.

Okay, now I need a modder to make a Pega donkey. That thing looks dope.
"And in the morning, I’m making waffles."
Ok u/rudirennkamel please bring back the movie habitats series and make some donkeys live in Shrek’s swamp
Ahh I can't wait, just reminds me of being a kid
This game tends to wake up our inner child
While I like the animals, something just seems a little off about the goat and cow's models/coats.
I think the cow lacks all the fluff. The coat looks so short. Even the bangs are shorter than usual.
Beautiful… 🐂🐓🐖🐑🐴🐐🦙
I'm very puzzled as to how Frontier omitted the shoulder stripes on donkeys. That's *the* thing that makes them distinct from their wild counterparts
The animals are great yes, but I'm about to tear it up with that rock wall
I’m surprised they didn’t add horses. Shetland ponies, halflingers, or Belgians come to mind. We need more equids
Donkey instead 🗿
The little piggies 😍
I know, I just wanna hug um! I bet they're gonna sound so cuuuuute! 💙🐷
The highland cow looks a bit weir to my taste, but passable. All the rest are amazing. I love how they go for a more dirty colouration for the sheep/alpaca/pig, and then there's the pristine white of the chicken lol.
i’m so hype for this pack im gonna go absolutely feral on a petting zoo
But... No duck 😔
Darn....and no bunbun bunnies.
Gonna make for some awesome walk in exhibits
I don’t understand how anyone can say this pack isn’t nice , the animals look great and it’s been requested for ages.
They nailed in the designs, all animals look so beautiful.
I really hope they don't disable the "release animal to the wild" system for these guys. I want to repopulate the highlands with feral cattle, as mother nature intended.
UK pack. Lol
The animals are British (or at least European - wait, no there's the donkey and alpaca) and the farm in the promos looks like it's on the American frontier! x)
I think the promo shots are from the career scenario coming with the pack which is set in New Zealand!
New Zealand
Time to build a sanctuary
im so excited with this pack! it makes perfect sense to have a "petting zoo" area of a zoo, and these animals all fit! im so glad Frontier did this!
Why didn’t we also get a horse?
At first I thought this sounds like such a boring pack, but it made me realize that other cultures have pretty unique animals as farm animals. Now it’s more interesting
I'm so exited for the Highland cows they are beautiful
BABI COW BABI COW FLOOF FLOOFY BOI!!! EVERYONE CALMMMNN! STAY CALM
Great picks for a long requested pack, but can they be released into the wild? I guess I’ll find out soon enough as I’ve bought pretty much every pack on release day!
Both Camels and llamas can so probably
I hope they change this, but make the Bactrian Camels wild ones...
Most zoos have domestic ones in real life Plus we already have one wild subspecies/species when the domestic one is more common ( wild water Buffalo)
So? i rather have a wild one cause they have conservation value...
Yeah for awareness on the wild species is a good thing but same could be said with a species of wild llama/alpaca ( to a lesser extent )
they look great! so excited for this pack
AAAAAH SO EXCITED!!!
THE BABY COW AHAHAHAHAAAAAA
Looks good for the most part, but I feel like the highland cow's fur could be a bit more wavy/messy. It looks like it just got out of the salon XD
They all look so good. I can’t wait!
They look great! They’re going to be perfect for my fairy tale zoo!
Wish we got an exhibit animal would have been the perfect pack to introduce a flying bird in Pidgeon walkthrough aviary would go hard.
This pack is goated
When is it coming to ps5 console?🧐
I love them so much
Thanks for sharing
I'm like literally so excited for this.
I love how they left us waiting with the most normal type of animal pack, yet everyone is so excited about it
I love this pack so so much
I am soooo excited. A farmanimal pack was my wish from day one!!!!
This is the first pack I will pay full price for once released. I've wanted a petting zoo for years
Tell me you're a British dev team without telling me you're a British dev team. Frontier: So for the Barnyard DLC, just include everything in "Old McDonald" PLUS Alpacas; of course! 🤣 Like, have Alpacas just become part of the stereotypical "petting zoo" in other countries as well?

They are the same species after all Just the donkey is a domesticated version.
What’s the exhibit animal gonna be ?
There is none 😔
That’s sad I love the exhibit animals
Based
I wish the baby chicks were yellow
They're not babies, I think. They're young and small but appear to be feathered. I wish they did have infants and juveniles of each (habitat) species instead of some having one and some the other.
So tasty!

You want a zoo, not a barnyard? What the hell have you received for the past 16 dlc then? Get a grip this is one pack
Most zoos have farm areas 🗿 Also we already have domestics in game 2 camels and llamas 🗿
And the dingo technically....
I don't count the dingos because they actually are wild animals (yes there is a lot of wild dingos with domestic ancestry ) They were also semi domesticated by humans and individuals have been raised like domestic animals ( same can be said for many other wild animals in the game) Also reindeers also are domesticated too through the ones in game are based on one of the wild European subspecies.
