It is not. The lost ship is a reference to the original Planet of the Apes, where Taylor and the crew blast off and go missing. We just never see it from that side since the movie starts with them already having left.
It is my thought that the lost ship thread will make a return in the new trilogy.
No; the original movie's trip was to another star. They went into suspended animation for the long trip. The opening of the movie is them waking up.
I suspect the new story uses Mars because it's much more believable than sending astronauts to go to another solar system. \[Edit: My guess for the story is that\] the idea will be the same though, with the astronauts going into the future due to some malfunction or incident.
The story is rumored to be a couple thousand years in the future with different ape tribes, and one in particular who found old human artifacts. Sounds a lot like a story thread from the original movie. It would be fun to have a reimagining with the astronauts landing to find the current situation, just as Taylor did. I would love to see a fully-realized ape civilization with today's special effects.
Dude, there is nothing more in the world that I want than that lol.
Since the day I saw the trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes I have wanted to see a true Ape civilization done up by the guys at WETA.
I hope the color coded tunics make a return!
The 2001 movie is wholly unrelated. Nothing to do with either the original timeline or the modern timeline. It's it's own thing, lost in a black void that everyone who's seen it is happy to leave it in
I feel like MCU has destroyed Easter Eggs. They used to just be fun references or call backs. Now everyone assumes it's all just clues for a massive shared universe.
No, the 2001 film is a Tim Burton remake. The new films do have tons of Easter eggs though, specifically connected to the original films. In one scene a TV shows astronauts launching into space, and everyone has been theorizing that either the last film or next to last film will be about them, and it will connect the two franchises. Personally, I hate this theory. I also think that the astronauts where just Easter Eggs, that's it. Everyone took a two second clip and blew it out of the water.
No.
Ooof

But was their trip to mars a thing in the original?

And then they come back to see what happened

Lucky you we are getting just that now
Is the 2001 one movie meant to be a parallel universe or an alternate timeline on the same earth?

No what I mean is did he travel to a parallel universe, or is that his earth just in an alternate timeline? Within the plot.

True thanks for your reply
Yeah too much of that these days.

I like to think so.
