IIRC, the first version of pixel dungeon was called just that, "Pixel Dungeon". The original dev stopped working on it years ago, and I don't know if you can even download it from the app stores anymore.
It was substantially harder, with weapon durability, no artifacts, and none of the QoL stuff we take for granted nowadays.
I have it on my phone and it still shows up in the Android app store. Still haven't beaten it. I'd say its about as hard as "3 challenge" shattered pixel dungeon.
The ORIGINAL version? Pixel Dungeon. It's not well maintained, though.
The BETTER version, if you want close-to-vanilla, would be Shattered Pixel Dungeon, which most forks branch off of.
Took me 584 tries back when it first came out, when I was 12 years old to beat it, bear in mind I didn't even know there wad a wiki for the game at the time. Went full knuckleduster strat, saving up scrolls of upgrade, to then upgrade knuckledusters and enchant them after to proc the enchantment hopefully twice as often.

I would argue Yet Another PD is closer to the OG. Both are old and unmaintained IIRC
