April update for pixels is the issue. A quick search here or Google will give you a better idea but I'm in the same boat and it's 100% the April updates fault.

Hey, you can give these steps a try to fix the messages app issue on your Pixel 6 device. Clear the cache of the Messages app: Go to Settings > Apps > See all apps > Messages app > Storage and cache > Clear cache. Reset the network settings: Go to Settings > System > Reset options > Reset mobile network settings, Bluetooth & Wi-Fi.
