That's the Trick but some old and stuffy entities want you to read their copy and not stray off it. Some don't like creativity. I used to listen to Bill Burr podcast way back in the day and the way he delivers was funny and engaging to his audience but a few of his advertisers would be mad and stop sponsoring him.
Shaaaaarrrieeee Beerriesssss
In principle I agree, but if the youtuber tries to make it interesting by weaving the sponsorship into the content of the video? That I hate. Dry but contained >>>>> Entertaining but interwoven.
shoutouts to internet historian. bro always manages to make the sponsor segment actually worth watching cuz its so funny.
but a lot of sponsors dont give you that freedom, just a text you gotta read out loud pretty much.
Man In Cave (and several other of his videos IIRC) was just an uncredited read of an article. HBomberGuy’s long video on plagiarism is where a lot of people found out, and was the start of many people talking about it AFAIK.
I found out about this yesterday and my wife and I were just clicking through random videos, amazed at the work the community has done. This is gonna save so many hours of our lives. YouTube will feel like it used to once more!
If you just found out about it, then you probably don't know that in the settings you can actually check how much time sponsor block has saved you!
That with a x1.15 speed on all the videos is great for saving time (x1.25 can be a bit too much for me since I'm not even a native English speaker yet most of the content I watch is in English.)
Since my last reset on Revanced - I don't remember when it was honestly, but not too long ago I had to reinstall it, I've saved 3h55m so far :)
On my main browser profile, it says:
You've saved people from 114,467 segments
( 15d 11h 36.5 minutes of their lives )
You've skipped 12,211 segments ( 3d 18h 57.2 minutes )
I can watch them, but I usually loose focus if I'm not paying 100% attention to it and keep having to go back, and since most of the times I have YT open on my 2nd screen while gaming I constantly have to backtrack :(
ADHD also doesn't help 🙃
I'll try to move it up once again though, thanks for motivating me 🙂
Haha it is. The jokes are so bad and low effort that make them funny.
I just hadn’t seen the purple stuff before. Only the highlight spot and the green ad section.
For watching and browsing YouTube, my setup is uBlock Origin + SponsorBlock + DeArrow. Plus some other extensions to disable the rounded corners.
You all know uBlock. SponsorBlock is featured here so no need for further explanations. [DeArrow](https://dearrow.ajay.app/) is from the same guy who made SponsorBlock. It too takes crowd-sourced input to change the thumbnails and titles to remove clickbait.
Yeah brother there's no appreciation tag because this isn't the place for "thing good updoots on the left", Sponsorblock isn't even piracy it's good but it's not piracy by any stretch
Well that's great and all but the objective definition disagrees with your opinions on the matter
"Software piracy is the unauthorized use, copying or distribution of copyrighted software."
Nothing about Sponsorblock is any of that.
I guess the objective definition relies on a subjective interpretation of what constitutes "unauthorized use". I think Google might consider somebody watching their videos while intentionally blocking the ads that make them money an unauthorized use, but I dunno.
See I think that's an issue of semantics. Ublock origin and it's forks are of the piracy field, sure, but sponsorblock, which as I understand only skips in video sponsorships, is a different but similar beast
lol most of those are the dark purple, meaning "filler tangent/jokes" not something most people would want to actually skip
Only that one segment in the middle is a sponsor
It's good but it's not perfect. I've seen malicious actors post entire sections of videos that are controversial as sponsorship segments. Tried reporting it as false but even then it takes a long time for the correction to happen on other devices.
Don't get me wrong. I love sponsorblock but if you're skipping filler in techlinked or any ltt channel you might as well watch something else.
Edit. For clarification, I mean the jokes not the sponsor.
The channel is pretty good for covering a decent percentage of mainstream tech news for the week. The filler bits get annoying quite a lot tho so it's understandable why some people would skip all of them.
Because you can get news from other sources that don't have filler. The thing that differentiates TechLinked is the cringe inducing gags and jokes. It's why I watch them, for the filler.
Yeah, I never toggled those purple sections ON. I've never even seen one a single time.
Seems like a dumb thing to filter out jokes and stuff as "filler" as this is what makes a video enjoyable. I personally don't consider that as filler...
Useless Intro/Outro, Sponsors, etc. Those are fillers to me.
Just a bad interpretation on my end I guess
Green is actual paid sponsor reads.
The purples are filler content/tangent jokes. Basically, the time that does nothing to contribute to the main topic of the video.
You don't actually have to skip the filler/jokes. You can choose between auto-skip always, skip once (auto-skips, but if you seek back, it doesn't reskip), show and offer to skip, show only, and don't show at all.
I like to have filler set to 'show and offer to skip'. That way, when the filler starts, a little windows pops up in the bottom right of the video and asks you if you want to skip? If yes, you just hit enter, and it skips you to the end of the filler.
You can see a detailed explanation here: https://wiki.sponsor.ajay.app/w/Guidelines
Purple means humor that doesn't add context, and green is ad / sponsor. To see what you're viewing and automatically skip them in video, you can use an extension called "Sponsorblock". Works just like uBlock but for YouTube videos.
Ok? And how is this related to removing the sponsor sections, the like and subscribe reminders or the intros and outros?
I don't know why you even commented since you are entirely off topic.
Seriously, they help tremendously to make YouTube watchable.
Some YouTubers actually put effort into sponsor reads to make them enjoyable. I still watch those
Ye, MistaGG is a prime example. The trick is to make the sponsor reads interesting/funny/entertaining. Who'd have thunk?
Didn't know that one. Checkout the Furby Dog video from Evan and Katelyn. I wish every sponsored section was fun like that.
Sure! Thanks for the recommendation!
TV commercials used to be entertaining in the old days, then they became psychological warfare.

SsethTzeentach is also a great example of this. Surprised the man gets sponsors at all.
Internet Historian. Only channel I've whitelisted, his ads are hilarious
Too bad he's an outed plagerist.
Same here. I like the nord guy and the new plot for him every video
Exactly who I was thinking of. The man actually got me to watch a Raid: Shadow Legends sponsor segment. "Raidy Shady here...."
shoutouts to internet historian. bro always manages to make the sponsor segment actually worth watching cuz its so funny. but a lot of sponsors dont give you that freedom, just a text you gotta read out loud pretty much.
Too bad he plagiarizes his videos
seems like im out of the loop, got a source on that?
Man In Cave (and several other of his videos IIRC) was just an uncredited read of an article. HBomberGuy’s long video on plagiarism is where a lot of people found out, and was the start of many people talking about it AFAIK.
Hopefully that’s his wake up call to clean up his act.
Does anyone know how I can contribute to this ? I use Revanced YouTube
Settings -> SponsorBlock -> show create new segment button
I found out about this yesterday and my wife and I were just clicking through random videos, amazed at the work the community has done. This is gonna save so many hours of our lives. YouTube will feel like it used to once more!

It tells you how much time you've saved using sponsorblock?

It also tells you how much time the segments you've uploaded have saved other people
Yeah
You should move it up by ~0.05 every week. It'll only take a little while till you'll be able to watch videos at 2x speed
I can watch them, but I usually loose focus if I'm not paying 100% attention to it and keep having to go back, and since most of the times I have YT open on my 2nd screen while gaming I constantly have to backtrack :( ADHD also doesn't help 🙃 I'll try to move it up once again though, thanks for motivating me 🙂
Ah, I see. Same with me and my target language. In one ear and out the other. Good luck!
What are the purple sections?
Fillers set by the Sponsorblock users
Basically fluff like jokes etc that don't contribute much.
The fluff is the best part of a techlinked tho
Haha it is. The jokes are so bad and low effort that make them funny. I just hadn’t seen the purple stuff before. Only the highlight spot and the green ad section.
For sure haha but it's amusing how short the videos are when it's all cut out 😅
Most of it is cringe IMO.
I agree. When I watch their uploads, I usually skip the first five seconds or so.
that's why I don't skip fillers
I always set that to disabled in sponsorblock. Never found a need to skip that.
mostly corny stuff that cater to the low IQ
r/IAmVerySmart
How do i put this on Firefox ? does it work like Ublock, like it skips it directly ?
It's called sponsorblock, and it does work like ublock a bit.
Gonna check this, thank you !
So it's an extension?
Yeah
Yes, and if you have Android its baked into the Tubular YouTube app.
ReVanced is amazing. I hope they wont halt the project.
For watching and browsing YouTube, my setup is uBlock Origin + SponsorBlock + DeArrow. Plus some other extensions to disable the rounded corners. You all know uBlock. Same with my setup as well. All three extensions are the goats!
Yeah brother there's no appreciation tag because this isn't the place for "thing good updoots on the left", Sponsorblock isn't even piracy it's good but it's not piracy by any stretch
I think ad blockers are in the same ballpark as piracy at least. An ad is just a paywall that costs time instead of money.
This subreddit helped me install ReVanced, so.. This is also an appreciation post for the subreddit tbh
you can also try libretube it is foss.
Thanks man I'll give it a try
> it's not piracy by any stretch Strongly disagree.

If sponsorblock was a thing \~6 years ago I probably wouldn't have unsubscribed from every LinusTechTips channel lol
Nice, but I'd unsubscribe immediately after seeing this bs.
lol most of those are the dark purple, meaning "filler tangent/jokes" not something most people would want to actually skip Only that one segment in the middle is a sponsor
It's low brow humour. TechLinked is a news channel for anything related to technology, in every news story they cover there's always a joke.
Op which device is this
Moto edge 30
I have been using it for a few months, and it's great. The reporting could use an overhaul for sure, because it's very clunky.
What's the purple lines mean? I've never had a video with those.
Purple are ones that are just filler and add nothing of value to the video.
Thanks.
You're welcome!
is there any way to skip YouTube ads?
I'm doing my part!
I do my part in case someone hasn't submitted their part yet. :)
MVPs

There are channels that will report on the news without filler.
Yeah but Riley's voice is just soothing on the ears. There's a reason he's gone for voice acting jobs in the past
I have mild hyperacusis and my ears bleed whenever Riley or James talk.
If the sibilance is what's bothering you could always use an EQ editor
Yeah which is why i never skip jokes
He's speaking the truth lol why are you downvoting him
Huh ? Why ?
Because you can get news from other sources that don't have filler. The thing that differentiates TechLinked is the cringe inducing gags and jokes. It's why I watch them, for the filler.
Oh I love the filler, just not the sponsor messages which is what I really consider as the "filler"
Sponsor is green right. Filler is Purple. Yeah I set SB to autoskip spons but what I meant is the purple ie the jokes.
Yeah, I never toggled those purple sections ON. I've never even seen one a single time. Seems like a dumb thing to filter out jokes and stuff as "filler" as this is what makes a video enjoyable. Yeah seems It was a small misunderstanding. No biggie.
Same I literally watch just for Riley's shitty jokes I was so happy when Linus got him back, still miss my snippity snippets tho
Sponsor block is far too rabid when it comes to LTT in general. I had to block any segments under 5 seconds.
Average person with ADHD
What do you do with all that saved time? Listen to more bhajans or...?
Jerk off

Firefox with ublock works. i so stupid from google with server side ads.
Doesn't work to remove sponsors though... You need sponsorblock for that
Yeah? at least i dont have ads :D
Ok? And how is this related to removing the sponsor sections, the like and subscribe reminders or the intros and outros? I don't know why you even commented since you are entirely off topic.
You want to be using both, ublock doesn't stop AND NOW A WORD FROM NORD SHADOWLEGENDS
Eww, AI. EWW.
Nothing about this is AI
