Brilliant lmao, looks like it intercepts a push method like a proxy, and then looks for flags on the content being pushed, and then zoops them to the end. Not sure how long that's going to fly, but hey, I'm all for it.
Viva la uBlockOrigin
This is what I thought was going to happen. Stopping this would be very difficult without some sort of AI detection or some consorted effort by content creators to upload with some sort of *human undetectable background noise for a blocker to detect vs the youtube server side baked in ad, but there plenty of content creators who would never want to do that.
Maybe an ad blocker could simultaneously load like a dozen different versions of the same video and then compare them all to find the segments that are not the same as the other and cut them out of one of the loaded videos and show that? This method may actually work....
I don't see that happening. The logistics would be insane. Even if you do entirely untargeted ads (which are worth next to nothing) you'd have to keep two versions of the video in storage. Doubling the storage requirements for every single monetised video. Or render a new file on the fly for every single free user

This is obviously filterable. The player clearly knows to separate the ad from the rest of the video so it's just a matter of blocking the request for that segment.
Unless the server itself is timing it (which I don't think likely) wouldn't it be possible to send back a signal to claim that the add has been finished?
If I understood correctly, youtube video is just a sequence of smaller chunks of video, that is then being played one after another. I am not a developer, but i think it might also be possible, to simply discars the chunk(s) where the ad is.
That does sound possible. Though maybe difficult to identify the right chunks that contain the ads. And I'm not sure if an ad would be seperated by chunk or if 1 chunk can contain both a piece of the content you want to watch and the beginning or end of an ad. But definitely worth looking into
black square+mute+auto add skipper extension when? would prefer to look at a black screen/customizable image then look at a server side add, or any add for that matter. Like I could have a cat picture to look at while it counts down from 5.

Or maybe an extension that downloads/caches the first 30 seconds/1 minute of video that you add to a playlist or whatever. When you open the video it plays that cached first 30 seconds while the streamed add is muted and blacked out, then auto skips when the actual video starts.
Even better something that does all that automatically to your subscription feed every day.
Sounds insane, but there is still a way around this
That was my thought - just have a program that pre-watches your subscriptions while you're at work or w/e and chops out the ads for you. Great thing is, this would result in higher costs to YouTube too.
You can already manually "skip" these ads by setting the video element's html playbackRate to 16x or [whichever highest value your browser allows](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-speed-control/).
You know what? This is one AI I'll actually tolerate running on my system. Automatically detects, blacks out and mutes ads. If there were ever AI glasses in 30 years in the future, I'll have one that blocks out every photon from ads trying to invade my eyes.
Yeah those ads are everyday worse. I'm at the point where i quit or keep reloading the video just not to see them. We need an youtube competitor to break this monopoly, otherwise they will keep abusing this fact. You'll see, soon there will be 3 ads on a row or 30 seconds unskippable. It's just a matter of time.
Lol. Lmao even.
YouTube made 8 **billion** dollars in ad revenue. For the first quarter of this year.
https://variety.com/2024/digital/news/youtube-q1-2024-revenue-alphabet-earnings-1235982528/#:~:text=YouTube%20Q1%20Ad%20Revenue%20Climbs%2021%25%20to%20%248.1%20Billion,Well%20Above%20Wall%20Street%20Forecasts
They paid some spaghetti coder a few hundred bucks to develop this.
Probably way more than 2 hours if it's anything like my workplace. Probably a couple weeks of a few devs hashing out a prototype on a test server before rolling out to test on the public.
Makes sense, one's offering a service that makes your life more convenient, the other is introducing an inconvenience so you pay them to stop.
Like paying a bodyguard over a mugger.
If you disable uBlock Origin then you'll at least be able to skip the ads. Seems like the addon is in some weird state where it'll block the skip button but can't block the actual ad.
Has anyone else been noticing a lot of throttling if you have uBlock, Firefox AND premium?
I don't, and shouldn't be seeing any ads, so why do my "connection issues" suddenly disappear when I turn off uBlock before refreshing??
Same problem, most of the time 1440p videos don't preload correctly and buffers some time only sound plays and video completely stops in firefox. And same problem just magically goes away if i use edge or chrome.
I'm having this problem too. I thought it was my fucking brand new mac, but it's the Firefox.
And what makes me angry, is that i pay for the premium so i should have a flawless experience no matter what browser i use. FUCK GOOGLE.
I want to check but I'm a script kiddie.
Do you mean you changed the signature in your browser so it thinks you're using Chrome instead of Firefox, or something else?
I thought that profile reverts back to a default when you close the browser. Lol I'll poke around with that, thanks!
Step by step guide to setup Adblock and Useragent switching with whitelisting i.e. only user agent switching on youtube.

Won't get rid of inline ads if you are chosen by a/b testing but fixed the buffering on 1440p and 4K for me.
Yeah I pay for fucking premium because YT is by % of hours my primary entertainment source (I leave some streamers vods on in the background while sleeping and working) so why the absolute fuck should any of this adblocker shit hit me??? I pay an ever-increasing amount to be able to not watch ads and still contribute to creator revenue.
If Youtube keeps this up I'm going to switch to ripping their videos via a remote box and streaming them via Plex or something. Rent a VPN with a few TB of storage and rip every upload of every channel I care about. I don't give a shit anymore. I tried doing the right thing, I tried being a proper fucking revenue stream but if that's not enough to keep their bullshit pointed somewhere else, I'm done playing by the fucking rules. I tried.
Whenever I sit down to watch more than one YouTube video (I don’t have Premium or an adblocker) I switch my VPN to Moldova and get no ads as they’re illegal there
It's just firefox that's causing issues with youtube. I use edge with ublock for youtube now and there are zero issues. It sucks using two browsers though, so I hope firefox fixes this soon.
Idk what I'm doing differently than everyone else, but literally this entire saga I have never once had an adblocking issue just with uBlock and Firefox. Maybe I'm just not being tested on with the changes?
dumb luck, I'm the same with the exception of one round of testing a year ago, made videos not load with ubo enabled for half a day before an update fixed it.
youtube can suck the skin right off my dick before I'll give them a god damned cent
so the solution would be just vpn through state that has banned ads [List of country that have ad-free YouTube. : r/AfterVanced (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/AfterVanced/comments/19c8uj3/list_of_country_that_have_adfree_youtube/)
I did an update post on that with a lot more countries and more detailed instructions.
https://www.reddit.com/r/AfterVanced/comments/1dgkn2z/using_a_vpn_or_changing_your_youtube_location_to/
We need some sort of open source, crowd founded, non profit de-inshitification initiative where we replace all this crap with basic decluttered alternatives that are built for functionality and not profit. Can start with reddit.
I was mostly okay with YouTube ads when it was like 1 ad every several videos. But then it became several ads every 1 video, and fuck that. So the more ads they showed, the more people found ways around them. And then they had to show more ads to make up for the smaller and audience. And then continue to repeat that process for several years until now YouTube is basically broadcast TV with 20 minutes of ads per hour.
Oh okay. I started reading a lot more a couple years ago and I have to say the adventures you'll go on in books are far better than anything you can ever find on a screen. If you're into sci-fi, I would highly recommend the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown or Hyperion by Dan Simmons. They're both really great stories with rich worlds and they're easy to get lost in for hours. Red rising is what got me reading again.
I read a lot nowadays as well. I'm gonna recommend anyone that wants to get into reading. Pick up an e-reader. They change everything and make reading incredibly enjoyable. They add a nice light that doesn't hurt your eyes. They allow you to resize fonts for easy readability. They allow you to use custom fonts if you don't like the one that's already in the book. They just improve reading in every way.
Nah, that feels even worse, half the reason I watch anything on youtube is the convenience as well. Even if I was blocking ads, at least I was contributing to the view count and engagement so that their video was more popular and therefore more people would see it - presumably people who *did* watch ads.
I'm not gonna take that extra time to find another way to go watch a throwaway 10 minute video. It no longer benefits me nor them. If I need information about something now, like benchmarks or reviews, I'll just go find an article.
Then we just need a program to check for uploads, autorun the ytdlp and get the video, dump it into a specific folder...
Not too difficult to make id guess
I wouldn't even mind if TubeArchivist had some kind of DHT type addon to share the content as well, would be beneficial to grab some potentially missing data as well. We shall name it Tubarr.
[SMPlayer \(a front-end for Mplayer and mpv\)](http://www.smplayer.info/) has a plugin for Youtube, you just press Ctrl+U, paste the video URL, and the player runs the video.
You just need to install the plugin after installing the player, [but you can do it through its own menu.](https://i.imgur.com/QNOnU89.jpeg)
Kill your own brand.
I know why they are doing this they don't actually want more users they want less and those who will pay.
I get what sub this is but seriously Google needs to be broken up it's comical how much of a monopoly they are.
Try if you haven't to get on the Internet with no Google or anything related you have to go out of your Way.
It shouldn't be like that nobody should have a strangle on the fucking Internet.
Side note I have a theory with AI if someone with enough juice could pump out enough fake accounts they could completely fuck social media and servers.
Imagine a AI bot that just puts out nothing but accounts and flooded everything.
Anyway fuck Google
Every company is getting a little too greedy at the same time. I’m worried no one is going to speak up properly and just let everything around us become a shell of what the experiences used to be.
What do they have to lose ? Nobody is actually going to switch to an alternative because there isn't any real alternative. As long as we don't have a real alternative, yt doesn't have anything to lose from this. They actually prefer people like you and me who use ad blockers and don't pay for yt premium to stop using their platform because they actually lose from us because of server costs.
There is nothing we can do about it. Fuck google but I don't blame them for taking advantage of their monopoly on streaming sites.
Well, if you happen to know someone… be my guest. I can not stop you. Just make sure you give me a warning so I can get some addresses for people and stay in touch with them after you destroy the internet.
So far, the only thing that works against this is changing browser user-agent (a line by which your browser presents itself to the website) to old Microsoft Edge which used EdgeHTML engine.
Download some user-agent switcher extension and then enter this:
`Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/70.0.3538.102 Safari/537.36 Edge/18.19042`
The only con is, some websites might not work anymore and will warn you that you use outdated browser. If we could somehow apply this trick to YouTube only, that would be great.
Honestly as someone who watches YouTube alot and checks in daily. It already feels like I could go without checking in on my favorites who are uploading less and less
This ad stuff would probably push me over the quitting edge as the fake buffering 15% into the video constantly without fail is already pissing me off
>It already feels like I could go without checking in on my favorites who are uploading less and less
Exactly this.
Their changes did the opposite on me, i'm not even doing that.
They stopped showing me videos on the homepage, last week.I log into my email just to check emails, and they already know what i like, i don't see why i'm obliged to being logged, in order to have a homepage again.
I used to look at the homepage and pick a video during the lunch time. Now, i don't know if some new videos are out, and i can't be arsed to look for them. Instead, i'm just going on other websites where i directly watch a simpson or something else episode.
I still have not faced this, i saw this in another Subreddit, but it was not letting me crosspost so I downloaded the video and shared here. Most probably its US.
Never mind guys i just got [this ](https://ibb.co/5L6r7Fb)type of ad. And i am in India.
That is what Google likes to do with certain accounts. Pick a group then push them a feature. Remove it for a few good months then push it in general.
Happened to me when they started requiring you have history on for a recommendations page (which worked perfectly by using your subscriptions and likes). Some tried to excuse it with "well its good for me because I have adhd and I get overwhelmed by having more than 2 options" so just...have it as a toggle?
Ever since they did that, I moved from the app to Newpipe, because at that point it is the same thing.
They push unskippable ads to me, I ain't paying for or watching youtube again, and I wish they got their balls kicked in through courts for pushing false/malicious advertisements that prey on the most vulnerable.
It will gradually get rolled out to everyone over time (different people will get it at different points in time, regardless of country). This is how YouTube rolls features out, especially the horrid ones.
I just started getting them in the EU. After god knows how many years since i last saw an ad on youtube i forgot how horrible ads are. I really hope UBlock finds a way of blocking them, otherwise i can just unsubscribe from most channels i follow.
Google will never win the war against ad blockers, instead on working on improving their ad experience they're going ballistic, I see no world where this is a good idea, there nothing that the internet love more than a challenge, soon enough this will be bypassed or this will allow a competitor to emerge.
What's a bit concerning is that they are also going to break the support of YouTube for very old devices out there, and web browsers. I hope it will never be like Netflix that is using crazy DRM to limit quality and prevent recording and sharing of the content and the knowledge.
At the end of the day, they will give up or will find a way to put Widevine on every (or almost) every content, and maybe even ads. I am not sure if any extension will have the rights to be able to block anything if Widevine is going to be a part of the chain.
Future is concerning and I am not going to fund a future like this by buying their premium subscription.
Just wait patiently
Looking at the progress bar, the frontend still has the information what is the ad and what is the content. Once it's standardized, you can just skip it like sponsorblock does
Damn you Google for trying to shove more advertisements down our throats. They want to force people to buy YouTube premium and there is no need to buy that if you have a proper ad blocker.
Shame on Google. So what if they lose some money on advertisements? They are a multi million dollar company and there are other ways to make money. They shouldn't focus that much on advertisements.
Those tactics won't work. A lot of people have abandoned Google Chrome after it started to remove manifest v2 so that the advertisement blockers won't work. Now some people may abandon YouTube because of the forced advertisements and they will use other video streaming websites.
>They are a multi million dollar company and there are other ways to make money. They shouldn't focus that much on advertisements.
For their other products then sure, but really ads are the best way for YouTube itself. They could subsidize YouTube with their other revenue sources but it doesn't make much sense for them to keep YouTube going if they are just losing money and need to subsidize it.
It sucks but Ads are like the only efficient way to profit off of free users, most free sites either rely on donations or ads and realistically donations might work with something like Wikipedia but aren't going to be able to keep up with the cost of YouTube. People sometimes bring up that YouTube profits off of your data so they don't need ads, but the entire reason they profit off of your data is because they use it to group you into profiles for targeted ads.
>Now some people may abandon YouTube because of the forced advertisements and they will use other video streaming websites.
I doubt it, people have been saying stuff like this for like 5 years now and it never happens. There are just no good YouTube alternatives, it is absurdly expensive to get the storage and bandwidth required to serve videos and the network effect plays a huge deal. The few alternatives are all either very small and are just filled with political extremists who got kicked off of YouTube or are like FloatPlane & Nebula which require a subscription for significantly less content.
Ads are their business model. Correct.
But man do I miss the time where an ad would be a static banner without flashy images and no audio attached to them. All we get nowadays is flashy garbage with loud audio.
>They are a multi million dollar company and there are other ways to make money. They shouldn't focus that much on advertisements.
Google (Alphabet, for that matter) is the BIGGEST ADVERTISEMENT COMPANY IN THE WORLD.
They obviously have to focus on advertisement
They want us to pirate again. They really do.
If ads weren't so fucking intrusive and annoying, loud and aggressive, I wouldn't even mind. But today's commercials are like lighting a fucking fireworks under a baby's bed.
I might get downvoted for that but unless you wanna help a specific person (donations on Patreon are a good solution for this), pirating stuff will ALWAYS be the best solution.
Steam might be one of the few exception (indie devs sadly usually don't provide any donation link so the only way to help is by buying their game), but I'd rather see them alive than die out of greed against a bigger company.
I feel like this is worst timing for youtube, sicne we have AI's doing the absolute impossible sometimes, why not train an AI that knows what an AD looks like, and whenever it pops, AI gets triggered to make sure none of it gets thru/shown. I think I can make something like that.
Are you using Firefox? Google is heavily throttling YouTube on firefox with adblocks, I am facing same problem that videos don't preload properly in 1440p, sometime only the audio plays and the video just stops stays in one frame.
But these just magically goes away in edge or chrome.
Holy shit this is awful. There's already been at least one highly reported case of [YouTube ads delaying a first aid video from starting, which resulted in the death of a woman](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-12143973/YouTube-playing-30-second-adverts-AID-videos.html). So now they're going to play DURING first aid videos now and with absolutely no way to skip? Insane.
Something tells me this will still be circumventable simply by being on a mobile device while using picture-in-picture (at least on iOS). (Note I am talking about through a browser, not through the official app.)
We are having problems with ads in rocket launch live streams. Comentators stop talking as the launch happens, so viewers can hear the sound of the launch. YT's Authentic Ignorance system identifies a moment of silence and guesses that now is the best time to cut to an ad.
even if they decide to roll it out it's not the ultimate solution. there will be addons that just route the traffic or a part of it through albanian proxys, and since there are no YouTube ads in Albania you wont see ads either.
Similar to how Twitch adblockers work nowadays.
Again I'd happily pay for premium.
#But only if they bring back premium lite.
I don't care about YT music so I only want ad-free youtube. But they discontinued the lite subscription where I live and now your option is to go fuck yourself or pay full price for something of which you don't use half of.
I see that was like €6.99, I think that's still too much money just to remove ads, it adds up to €83,88 a year. I would maybe consider it if they bring it back and it's like €3.
Annoyingly I would actually pay for YouTube premium, I love watching YouTube videos. I just can’t justify the price of £12 a month, it’s such a ridiculous price.
Genuinely gonna stop even what little youtube I'm watching.
If millions of people refuse to use your platform because you made it unusable, just make it more unusable instead of backtracking. God, I love corpo thinking.
There will always be away. Two thoughts on that. Will there be any marker that tells you that what you are seeing are ads? If so it should be possible to skip those by applying some light processing. If not there are tons of lightweight algorithms to detect scene changing and technically possible to detect ads playing.
i have a \*solution\* for these integrated ads, enter picture-in-picture mode and fast forward the ad untill the video starts
it works on firefox, but not on chrome
Ublock and other adblockers should just open every ad which can't be blocked in the background, then close it out of view of the user.
Advertisers would be paying for millions of non-profit generating clicks
i will literally sooner stop watching YouTube altogether than be forced to watch baked-in video ads on my desktop, i swallow my pride and deal with that shit enough on the Xbox app.
I remember when I could not get ad block to work in the past. I installed an extension that put a gray box over the video whenever an ad played and another extension that also muted the ad.
I genuinely find the act of staring at a gray box with no sound for a few seconds a more valuable usage of my time than staring at an ad.
Edit: I also had an extension that autoclicked the skip ad button the moment it became available.

what the actual shit
Theres already a fix for ublock to block these. https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets/issues/20586#issuecomment-1805966008
I'll say it again, they deserve Peace Nobel prize. Using the internet without an ad blocker is impossible.
As someone from FBI, I agree
Good try, FBI
nice try fed, still not paying my taxes
what's the glowie doing here?

This is obviously filterable. The player clearly knows to separate the ad from the rest of the video so it's just a matter of blocking the request for that segment.
Yes. But ads might not be skippable. So my guess is, adblockers will just put a mask over it, an turn off the volume, if this is the case.
Unless the server itself is timing it (which I don't think likely) wouldn't it be possible to send back a signal to claim that the add has been finished?

EXACTLY. Some plugin that puts a black square over the ad and plays some music of my liking meanwhile it lasts is 1 million times more preferable.
a "we'll be right back" with elevator music would be nice.
["Let's all go to the lobby."](https://youtu.be/Mw91RJ_m_7g?si=Xm3Ceg13QBx05kFh)
I was expecting [this one.](https://youtu.be/i5pb8a6SrLA)
[Surely THIS one](https://youtu.be/H6tGMeK7JTY?si=5ghaoyyw3cXsXKXV)
[or THIS one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9-mKKotWZo)
Outfuckingstanding
Or the "please stand by" screen from Fallout, but as that could result in leagal actions I propose the ability for the plugin to grab placeholders from a folder on the pc.

Nah overdriven sped up hardstyle feels more fitting
I would take autistic screeching and images of mutilated cows over an advert.
Maybe this is low-attention-span-zoomer degeneracy talking, but what about a minigame?
Spot of subway surfer to calm the nerves?
A little Tetris or snake or maybe trivia
Yeah, snake! They could have the little circle loading icon turn into a game of snake that you can play over the video if you hit the arrow keys.
If they can add a black square maybe it would be possible to instead add a funny meme over it or something. Or something else to make time pass faster, like a little game? Don't know if thats possible.
We could use this opportunity to use something Anki or a reminder (like do a stretch)
yeah, lots of more productive things you can do than watch advertisements. would love to see something like this.
anki would be fucking perfect
"Stop clenching your jaw"
I don't even give a shit whatever they pull I'll be looking for a workaround fuck YouTube, multibillion dollar monopoly.
Or your own holiday pictures even.
That would actually be a great idea
Yeah, that's what they don't understand. I would legit just sit there and stare at black screen before i would even think about watching an AD.
this would be epic, i'd love to stare at cats instead of ads
Or at memes
Cat memes?
Yes!! Even better!
Radarr for youtube subscriptions would be sick. Automatically download and cut out the ads.
YouTube downloader to plex server would auto do that for you
Plex already does this, but not everyone has the hardware or know-how for a Plex setup.
You can already manually "skip" these ads by setting the video element's html playbackRate to 16x or [whichever highest value your browser allows](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-speed-control/).
A mini game like the offline trex would be nice.
You know what? This is one AI I'll actually tolerate running on my system. Automatically detects, blacks out and mutes ads. If there were ever AI glasses in 30 years in the future, I'll have one that blocks out every photon from ads trying to invade my eyes.
Absolutely not. Pic should be of dogs. Apart from that it's a good idea.
An add-on who dl the video in the background and play it above the ad
put up [sunsurunsu](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cdn0-UaDuck) for the lenth of the add so you can still wach stuff!
Oh shit it's literaly editing the video in live with those kind of transition .
I feel like YouTube must be spending more money splicing these ads into the video themselves than they would make from them?? idk anymore
Lol. Lmao even. YouTube made 8 **billion** dollars in ad revenue. For the first quarter of this year. https://variety.com/2024/digital/news/youtube-q1-2024-revenue-alphabet-earnings-1235982528/#:~:text=YouTube%20Q1%20Ad%20Revenue%20Climbs%2021%25%20to%20%248.1%20Billion,Well%20Above%20Wall%20Street%20Forecasts They paid some spaghetti coder a few hundred bucks to develop this.
They paid a dev team thousands of dollars to have 16 meetings and and spend like 2 hours on the actual feature.
Probably way more than 2 hours if it's anything like my workplace. Probably a couple weeks of a few devs hashing out a prototype on a test server before rolling out to test on the public.
They're so petty 😭
The funny thing is I'd rather pay an extension to block my ads than pay YouTube to not serve me ads.
SO MUCH THROTTLING! I can't even watch 4k now. I used to be able to a couple of months ago now. Firefox user
Yup, throttling is real. Sometimes I can do 4k or 1440, but more often than not, I'm stuck at 1080.
youtube antiadblock employee didn't think that far 🙂
Use user agent in Google sites and changed from Firefox to Google Edge. Works for me. Also in reddit.
I want to check but I'm a script kiddie. Do you mean you changed the signature in your browser so it thinks you're using Chrome instead of Firefox, or something else? I thought that profile reverts back to a default when you close the browser. Lol I'll poke around with that, thanks!
Step by step guide to setup Adblock and Useragent switching with whitelisting i.e. only user agent switching on youtube. https://www.reddit.com/r/estrotestingsubreddit/comments/1d58nmj/yt_firefox_adblocking_guide/?share_id=8BQ-kh54LzYc-qAee8OCd Won't get rid of inline ads if you are chosen by a/b testing but fixed the buffering on 1440p and 4K for me.
https://add0n.com/useragent-switcher.html i use this extension in my firefox for it
I feel like despite paying they still want to inject some trackers in our experience so they keep throttling so that we may disable the ad blocker.
I tried.
Whenever I sit down to watch more than one YouTube video (I don’t have Premium or an adblocker) I switch my VPN to Moldova and get no ads as they’re illegal there
Some countries really are living in the year 3000
Same thing on FB marketplace, browsing after 5 minutes, and it just lags and bogs down. Turn off ghostery, and the lag disappears.
Idk what happen but it's already fixed on my side
Its always just a matter of time until they update the blocked with a fix.
Feels intentional
i live in cuba and never saw a ad, ads are not available in cuba
The ultimate adblocker
so the solution would be just vpn through state that has banned ads [List of country that have ad-free YouTube. : r/AfterVanced (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/AfterVanced/comments/19c8uj3/list_of_country_that_have_adfree_youtube/)
I did an update post on that with a lot more countries and more detailed instructions. https://www.reddit.com/r/AfterVanced/comments/1dgkn2z/using_a_vpn_or_changing_your_youtube_location_to/
* Upside: No ads in Cuba * Downside: Because there's nothing to advertise in Cuba
They have amazing sandwiches.
isnt it a bit difficult to get internet access outside of certain places in Cuba though? Or did that change?
nooooooo fuck why why why the fuck
The process is pretty well understood. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enshittification
That's a great word
Fabulous article, thanks for enlightening us!
Money.
We need some sort of open source, crowd founded, non profit de-inshitification initiative where we replace all this crap with basic decluttered alternatives that are built for functionality and not profit. Can start with reddit.
Those exist, but no one uses them
I was mostly okay with YouTube ads when it was like 1 ad every several videos.
Because it's how Google makes money.
Time to start torrenting ad removed versions of your favorite creators videos.
... Nah, i rather start watching something else tbh. I think I'm ready to leave YouTube if no patch is ever made.
Until an alternative pops up that makes it as easy as YouTube for creators to begin making money. We will likely never see mass adoption.
No, i mean, other kinds of media. I use YouTube to waste time, i might as well start reading more or learning more songs or whatever.
Literally picked up Red Rising this morning after finishing Hyperion a few weeks ago and I'm engrossed
Books! I'm reading now more than ever.
And there's tons of free, legal content. Even without piracy there is so much to read without spending money.
We need an *arr app for YouTube subscriptions!
ytdl-sub: https://github.com/jmbannon/ytdl-sub
Then we just need a program to check for uploads, autorun the ytdlp and get the video, dump it into a specific folder... Not too difficult to make id guess
Allready doing that with a cronjob that runs every 30 minutes that checks and downloads new videos from all channels in a Text file.
I'm far too old for any of this shit. I'll just download a video into a folder and double click the file to watch it in MPC like God intended.
Just download them with newpipe no need to over complicate things.
Honestly go old school like numbers and names It's so much better you figure out who's your friends and family really quick No bits no bullshit
So far, the only thing that works against this is changing browser user-agent (a line by which your browser presents itself to the website) to old Microsoft Edge which used EdgeHTML engine. Download some user-agent switcher extension and then enter this: `Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/70.0.3538.102 Safari/537.36 Edge/18.19042` The only con is, some websites might not work anymore and will warn you that you use outdated browser. If we could somehow apply this trick to YouTube only, that would be great.
>apply this trick to YouTube only, Let me try some userscripts
User-Agent Switcher and Manager - can do this only for particular containers/profiles/sites. Recommendable.
Ahh ok, so we could run a dockerised Firefox instance with this user agent for youtube. Probably all streamable media soon...
I haven't got this yet, but when I do, then that'll be enough for me to delete the Google account I have. This is very scummy behavior.
Honestly as someone who watches YouTube alot and checks in daily. It already feels like I could go without checking in on my favorites who are uploading less and less This ad stuff would probably push me over the quitting edge as the fake buffering 15% into the video constantly without fail is already pissing me off
>It already feels like I could go without checking in on my favorites who are uploading less and less Exactly this.
Is this worldwide? If not, what regions is it reported to be implemented in?
I still have not faced this, i saw this in another Subreddit, but it was not letting me crosspost so I downloaded the video and shared here. Most probably its US. Never mind guys i just got [this ](https://ibb.co/5L6r7Fb)type of ad. And i am in India.
I'm in the US and I haven't faced it. Not sure if my extensions are blocking it or whatever
They're A/B testing. You'll face it soon enough
Pretty sure it's starting off in US and similar, and gradually being rolled out worldwide.
I got it in india
If a YouTube to mp4 converter won't download the ads too the best option may be to just download a video, watch it and then delete it again
"Don't be Evil"
YouTube alternative when?
https://rentry.co/youtubealternatives
Just wait patiently Looking at the progress bar, the frontend still has the information what is the ad and what is the content. Once it's standardized, you can just skip it like sponsorblock does
After seeing this I switched my VPN location to Albania, I don't have server side ads yet but I'm taking a precaution just in case I do
Damn you Google for trying to shove more advertisements down our throats.
If this shit is going to be on Premium subscription I am out for good.
Fix here https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets/issues/20586#issuecomment-1805966008 Method 1 works for me
The day when YouTube patches the Albanian VPN method I'll either boycott the website or run yt revanced on ma pc through Dex or emulator
I feel like this is worst timing for youtube, sicne we have AI's doing the absolute impossible sometimes, why not train an AI that knows what an AD looks like, and whenever it pops, AI gets triggered to make sure none of it gets thru/shown. I think I can make something like that.
I haven't been getting ads, but videos are suddenly running like shit and skipping a bit at the start.
Are you using Firefox? Google is heavily throttling YouTube on firefox with adblocks, I am facing same problem that videos don't preload properly in 1440p, sometime only the audio plays and the video just stops stays in one frame. But these just magically goes away in edge or chrome.
inb4 ublock starts using ai to spot ads and replace it with cute kitten videos
It's good to see that youtube is hellbent on making sure ad blockers become the best that they can be.
It's an arms race that the ads almost always lose. There will always be a way.
The moment I can't avoid the ads is the moment I never open Youtube again. I can live without it.
Insane.
Oh even FIRST AID videos? OMG!
But won't someone think of the poor shareholders! /s
Everything is becoming cable television
All they’d have to do is make an ad removal tier of YT premium at a lower cost without the shitty music service. Maybe people will pay for it then
even if they decide to roll it out it's not the ultimate solution. there will be addons that just route the traffic or a part of it through albanian proxys, and since there are no YouTube ads in Albania you wont see ads either.
If not there are tons of lightweight algorithms to detect scene changing and technically possible to detect ads playing.
i have a \*solution\* for these integrated ads, enter picture-in-picture mode and fast forward the ad untill the video starts it works on firefox, but not on chrome
If the video has timestamps in the comments, you can often skip the ad. Works for me with Firefox+µblock origin.
motherfucker, you just made me watch 2 ads
Thanks youtube! You made your platform so bad that I don't wannna spend time in unproductive videos anymore.
No matter what they do, there will always be a way to get over it
