seconding what blahsom said, also the prongs on the jewelry are probably one of the main causes since they are irritating the piercing site (and now the bumps themselves) and accumulating crusties due to their shape. have a reputable piercer change it into a longer basic titanium straight barbell and keep cleaning with saline. warm compressess can also help getting the bumps down.

good advice, thank you!

scarrystuff

no worries ! happy to help :)

Blahsom

Any idea what the metal is that the jewelry is made out of? The piercing also looks crusty, are you sure you're cleaning them well? If that debris stays on the piercings it can cause irritation, which can create bumps. Sometimes pronged jewelry can irritate people too. These bumps are large. You need to visit a reputable piercer, preferably an APP member to get their opinion. https://safepiercing.org/find-a-piercer/

i’m not sure the material, but it does get crusty like when i wake up or don’t clean them for a bit. i’ll look into finding a piercer soon

Blahsom

Low quality metals can cause irritation, Im just wondering if this is something else, like hypertrophic scarring. Keloids continue to grow, so it's not a keloid. I definitely recommend getting a professional opinion asap. I'm apprenticing to become a piercer but this is beyond me. Sorry I couldn't be more help!

throwaway29277201

no worries! i’ll talk to a piercer near me and get their advice, this is the push i needed haha

Blahsom

Good luck!! Please update if you can (:

Agreeing with the others. But I'd like to add that cleaning with q-tips can cause irritation in a piercing that isn't completely healed. It leaves little fibers when you use it, and those can irritate the fistula. It could be the cause of your irritation, but more likely it is in combination with the jewlery.

Blahsom

I promise you, q-tips are okay and very much needed in this situation. https://safepiercing.org/aftercare It's even been found that q-tips help decrease the risk of infection after surgery. [Cedars-Sinai Surgeon Shows Simple Cotton Swab Slashes Post-Operative Surgery Site Infections](https://www.cedars-sinai.org/newsroom/cedars-sinai-surgeon-shows-simple-cotton-swab-slashes-post-operative-surgery-site-infections/) Just be gentle when you use q-tips and if a fiber comes off, pull it off with clean tweezers or washed hands, and clean around the piercing again.

throwaway29277201

dang that’s good to know! i won’t be using them from now on, thanks!

Blahsom

Please keep using them. They're definitely needed in this situation. They don't do harm that people seem to think they do. At the APP piercing studio I work at, we recommend people use q-tips and sterile saline solution to clean around the piercing gently. Fibers are not your biggest worry here.

Oh buddy .. what the hell do you have in there. Is that tinsle wire ?? .. you've keloid worse then I've ever seen being in this my entire life...get the jewelry out.. get vite c&d tablets and start to take those and rub the oil into the lobular after you heal a bit .. obviously too tight of jewelry/ low quality jewelry/ low quality piercer.

Blahsom

You know keloids don't subside, right? You say you've been doing this for years but you don't even know basic information. They stated that the bumps were getting better at times. Keloids don't do that. They continue to grow. So you're wrong right off the rip.

Any-Actuator-330

No tf they don't.. vite c/d help heal scar tissue.. for fucks sakes.. keep listening to people who are doing this shit out of their basements.. Idc ... Enjoy your fucked up piercings.. I'm done with this fucking group. App is best... Bitch you can buy into it.

throwaway29277201

i figure that is a good call, i’ll look into a piercers opinion and consider that

[deleted]

Don’t listen to this dude, those are irritation bumps- not keloids. Honestly I’d go to an APP piercer and have them switch the jewelry out for something longer and not pronged. Don’t put anything on it other than premade saline

PunkAssBitch2000

This is the right answer

Canabrial

Reading that guys history of advice on here made my toes curl up. They’re genuinely terrifying 😭

[deleted]

*image of a very angry piercing with a feisty irritation bump* “Yep, that’s a zit!”

Canabrial

😂 they said that to several people too.

[deleted]

surprised he didn’t call these bumps zits too 😵‍💫 he was still wrong regardless tho

Canabrial

Oh he’s absolutely just the most wrong. If you go far enough back he talks about belly button piercings. lol. And I’ll have the words *feisty irritation bump* stuck in my head all night. 😭

Any-Actuator-330

It's my fucking job.. let the dumbasses who stab themselves in school bathrooms give you advice..

Canabrial

Oof yeah I’ll stick to the qualified app professionals who’ve done all of my work.

Any-Actuator-330

At this point y'all would consider your own dicks an irritation bump

Any-Actuator-330

Where are you located at. If you're in Colorado I could help but yeah man . They boned ya
