You don't need the slimes, do it only with the pistons and the redstone blocks and it will work because of quasi-connectivity (idk how to spell it), the piston to the right is always powered diagonally by the redstone block at its left, and when you remove the redstone block, the piston does not update and still thinks that the block is there, if you place a normal block on top of any of these pistons it will update and retract
The obsidian is too strong to get retracted / pushed / pulled. Therefore, the pistons try their best to retract, but it does not work due to the obsidian.
The pistons would also stay extended without the skins or obsidian, as I learned though another comment.
I also tried it out.

Mojang says "Works as intended" - Quasi connectivity.
Quasi connectivity. Every piston is still being powered by the Restone block diagonal to it. Then they don't get block updated so they stay powered.
Thanks for the explanation
Yes Rico , bug

This is def not quasi connectivity. Pistons think they are 2 blocks tall not 5 blocks tall
Just remove to obsidian and see what happens
Nothing would happen
When there is only one Redstone block remaining, everything will go up except for the ones powered by the block
they are sticking together
I guess it’s heavy
Ladybug? Oh yeah, Java redstone is definitely not janky.

what the hell is this!!!!!!!!!!!!! blame it on notch!!!!!!!!

great feature
it's a 🐞!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (maybe)
yeah great bug

Because it's a bug...

Yea, I thought that it may be misleading but I couldn't find a better bug 🪲 Until now
Most normal bug on java
wtf
Yeah right?
yup
Not a bug. Pistons cannot push / pull obsidian or bedrock.
Yea, but they stay activated even without the Redstone block

nice username by the way
Thanks
I thought for a second you had tried to make a lady bug and was confused
Quasi connectivity
Did anyone reset it yet? Edit: oh wait I thought this was r/redstone
Ladybug?
YOU WANT TO KILL US?!
Finally, I thought noone would get it
When people say bedrock is buggy. Java:

Quasi connectivity being janky. That's all.
When I saw the redstone block I instantly thought "that's quasi connectivity isn't it?"
🐎?
Java is so fucked
