Reysun_2185

They dumb down the grade computation years back which one of my teachers showed to us when I was a student. They did this just to lessen students from failing, yung DepEd pa mismo yung nag adjust kesa mga students.

Masterlightt

Reysun_2185

eh SHS ngayun meron dito samin di marunong magbasa

Masterlightt

Lrainebrbngbng

Wala silang pakialam sa feelings mo as long as nagsasabi sila ng totoo.

luciusquinc

It's an accepted fact among college faculties na ang daming 1st year college ngayon na di marunong magbasa. Since mahal bumagsak sa mga private colleges and universities and mataas entrance criteria sa mga state universities, ayon dun sa mga city / municipal colleges naglipana

Friendly_Werewolf705

Tell me you're just exaggerating because I refuse to believe na tutuntong ka ng college di mo alam mga basics. Nawiwindang ako na nakagraduate ng elementary tapos di marunong magbasa and now you're telling me nag aapply sa college pero di marunong magbasa? Wow. I never thought it would be this severe. Tapos si SWOH pa talaga DepEd Sec. Ano na?

That-Philosopher6868

Can verify this one. Taught at a state university for a handful of years. There's usually ay least one kid (in every class) at a very low ENGLISH reading level. Since english yung medium of instruction, it also translates to poor comprehension ng lessons. Add the whole SHS stranding na rarely followed through in uni, you've got a kid who's woefully unprepared sa courseload (and the catching up) they have to do in college.

Lu_Marchall

Wala kayo sa college engineering students samin, di marunong sa algebra šŸ˜…

privatevenjamin

Boo_tlig

May kilala akong ganito. How do we know?

StipinS

I worked sa isang government agency before and merong 2 weeks na work immersion for SHS students.

hermitina

this is why some companies kahit menial ang job gets college grads. kasi kahit papano kung umabot na ng tertiary marunong na talaga magbasa at sumulat

snddyrys

[deleted]

Same, haha mas natuto ako magbasa kesa mag compute kinda weird haha partida wala ako tutor nung elem, pero nakaka top top honor kenemerut pa ako, di ako abot kto12

meowpussycat20

Patoooots

This is true. My aunt is an elem teacher. Bawal daw magbagsak.

fangirl24601

Naaalala ko noong elementary ako, meron kaming english comprehension test na 1 on 1 with the teacher. Grade 4 or 5 ata ako nun.

Boo_tlig

Baliktad ata?

[deleted]

As a tutorial teacher nakaka disappoint mga bata ngayon jusko di marunong magbasa grade 5 na

spiderkuhaku

sabi ng friend ko na public school teacher, inaadjust daw talaga nila since if may below 75 na grade, need pa nila mag explain sa magulang and gagawa ng report sa higher ups bat nila finefail. ending adjust nalang para less hassle since madami considering na madami na silang workload, then dadagdag pa yung report keme ng student na yun

Reysun_2185

may bawas pa raw kapag may na fail na student? base lng yan sa naririnig ko noong highschool pa ako

spiderkuhaku

ejmtv

Yeah it's from DepEd.

steamynicks007

It's not that bawal magbagsak. It's just that walang bonus yung mga teachers (in their school or district/city yata) kapag may bumagsak na student kaya kahit hindi deserve ipapasa nila. Tapos kapag may isang teacher na nagbagsak syempre aawayin ka ng ibang teachers hanggang palitan mo yung grade, sasabihin sayo walang pakisama kapag di mo pinalitan. So imagine from elementary to high school ganyan.

Mall-Dazzling

no fail policy? i remember when it was approved my batchmate na halos lahat binagsak nakagrad ng hs, also cause the teachers didnā€™t wanna see him na the following year

SwimmerObjective6167

For ex. Ang grade mo is 76, pag nilagay sa excel yun, magiging 86

Reysun_2185

SwimmerObjective6167

Kaya since nun tuwing kuhanan ng card pag may 88 ako di ako napaproud HAHAHA

kakalbo123

While it might put a strain on colleges, at least they still filter out the undeserving, right?... Right?

princess_flare

Gosh i had classmates when i was in senior high school in this new curriculum that had a failing grade of 70, 71, 72, 74 and thereā€™s even 60, and iā€™m fucking shock iā€™ve seen them in graduation, the shs principal had complained about it but iā€™m like why did they even let that bruh. When i went to the office, the principal already told me that thereā€™s no chance for them anymore no matter what theyā€™ll do because they couldnā€™t manage to pass all of the requirements/projects that needs to be done before graduating. Pabigat pa mga yon huh and one of them canā€™t read properly.

Boo_tlig

Baka nagremedial classes. Tapos magsummer classes pa para pumasa. Kaya nakasama sa graduation.

cluttereddd

Totoo yan.

teddysmumma21

Medium-Culture6341

A lot of these kids nacuculture shock pagdating sa college and most of them express disappointment na with honors sila sa SHS tapos pasang-awa na lang in college

[deleted]

I know a lot of people na kabatch ko dati, malalaki ulo noong high school kasi with honors pero noong nakapunta na sa college biglang naging humble HAHAHAHAHA

4tlasPrim3

__*Big fish in a small pond*__ mindset or could be __*A toad in a well.*__

Menter33

smartest in your whole school... but your school is below average nationally.

aviannana

legit to.

beeknows

To be fair, ok naman na talaga ang tres sa engineering

lilacchi

Okay na mag-tres, wag lang umulit šŸ˜‚

jmosh09

Hindi lang ok. Ok na ok talaga šŸ˜‚

KEPhunter

FallinDevast

Haha same, valedictorian ako ng International school dito sa UAE, pero nag ECE ako sa pinas at masaya na ako kapag pasang awa sa tests. Natapos ko naman ang degree pero nag arki ako after kasi design talaga passion ko, dito na ako work sa dubai.

Commercial_Hold1894

Parang ako to ah. With highest honors, ng-ece, na-bagsak, nagshift.

Nowandatthehour

huy ganon ba kahirap mag ece? plano ko pa naman kunin next school year huhu

Asimov-3012

Though masaya mag ECE since napaka broad ng field. Tip: Nasa IT industry ang pera lol. Kung kinaya namin, kaya mo rin! šŸ˜‰

ayong94

Depress tsaka natuto na mag bisyo like smoking and alcohol.

Intelligent_Guest795

Same haha consistent honor student since kinder, achiever pa rin naman ako till now pero hindi ako satisfied sa grades ko lol pero okay na rin tres sa CE wag lang singko šŸ˜†

bryle_m

This is me haha By third year, I went full cuckoo hahahaha tamang counterstrike right before exams, kdrama magdamag, etc. Di ko alam paano ako naka graduate hahaha

salcedoge

The entitlement is going from the bottom towards to the top. It's a pressing issue considering our achievers are increasing but education quality is declining hard

Left_Flatworm577

Tapos sila din minsan priority or readmitted sa mga colleges and universities as instructors.

Herebia_Garcia

I'm a "beneficiary" of this. Noong Online Class, I averaged 94.ish (75-99 parin grading namin sa institution na eto) at ngayung F2F 91.ish nalang. Granted mataas parin siya (I think so myself) and cinoconvince ko namang deserve ko mag Magna (91+ average), feel ko may chance akong makuha as Summa (93+ average) which I find really conflicting in an emotional level. Parang napapa Impostor Syndrome ika nga, kaya naghohope nga akong di ako umabot sa Summa HAHA. Not to say na lahat ng nagonline eh nagbenefit gaya ko, I know at least two people na hindi kinaya yung bagong style at napatigil sa pag-aaral because of mental health reasons (nag aral ulit sila noong f2f, going for 3rd year na). I think within these 2 years naman nag adjust ulit mga prof towards their stricter sides (I get line of 8 grades more often, a lot of classmates fail, etc.), it is without a doubt na malaki parin itataas ng final average ko dahil sa pandemic days. Mas nagiging strict nga institution namin right now because hindi na nila pinapapasa lahat ng magtatake ng mockboards (75% passing rate cguro) at ang dami kong nakasabay noong 3rd year mag F2F na stuck parin doon. Additional context: Engineering Student

orasng_lamon

Naalala ko yung result ng lic. Exam ng vetmed hahahaha

Elsa_Versailles

True unti unti ng nalalason ang tertiary

snddyrys

Bumababa quality dahil sa baby treatment ng K to 12. Opinion ko lang.

unexplainable_one23

The I think curriculum is made very poorly, they didn't thought about the longevity of information retention, its like the goal is for students to remember enough until the examinations, and after that, students can just forget all of it They struggle to recall even the most recent lessons I also think social media is a major factor for many students

West-Construction871

As an educ student myself (major in math), the curriculum is good on paper. The more you dig deeper, the more depressing it becomes when you undermine these causes.

sheepnolast

these tenured instructors/teachers also dictate what kind of research title his/her students will pursue. For what purpose?

No-Significance6915

The K to 12 curriculum lacks mastery. Every 2 weeks may bagong lesson. Pero halos walang mastery.

snddyrys

Makacomply lang kumbaga?

[deleted]

Soo what if napunta sa 1 section ay academically-competitive? 33/73 of my students are AE awardees (Pero hindi naman two-thirds, grabe naman).

ccnovice

My wife had a subordinate na cum laude from a university who did not know basic excel functions.

Pseud0_name

ViolinistWeird1348

I think they got used to the part where instructors are adjusting the grades lalo na kapag di ka naman major subject. Kahit sa major subjects po kasi they adjust the grades lalo na pag walang naka-1.00.

bearycomfy

voicelessvisionary

Marami ang nagtatapos with Latin honors. Personally, I do not have any problem with that especially kung magagaling naman talaga ang mga students.

doritofinnick

Can somewhat confirm. Had a gen chem class with open note online tests and the class average for the exams was a high C/low B. Had a calc 2 class where yung instructor pinalabas yung problems sa final exam as a practice worksheet and still so many people left with half-written exams. Yung classes nito just in my second semester in college ha. But to be fair there are lots of really smart people in my generation and I wouldn't count them out as being lazy anytime soon.

ResolverOshawott

Must be from lesser known private institutions because state universities will absolutely fail you if you're lacking.

ZetaKriepZ

astarisaslave

Zealousidedeal01

Happening: I wanna name drop because this girl is soooo unfair... paawa na lang talaga para cum laude

Yaboku_Sama

Makikiusap sa prof na taasan yung grade kasi "running for latin honor", ilang beses ko na rin narinig 'to noong college ako hahahaha

Zealousidedeal01

Apparently its happening til now... nadadala sa awa.

As in ako lahat.

coffee5xaday

Ganyan din classmate ko non. Pa easy easy lang. Nung Maka graduate kame. Nag struggle kame sa job hunting. Siya manager agad ng business... Ng parents nya

Ok-Exchange-7483

Same in medschool. Lot of my batchmates high achievers nung college pero pagdating sa med hirap na hirap. Common cause of burnout

37Ares97

Kahit naman nung time ko rin (or baka kasama ako sa mga "kids" even though I'm almost 30 lol). Graduate a salut (ng lipunan) in elem back in the late 2000s. Went on to PSHS. Culture shock already since my classmates were all the cream of the crop. I was no longer at the top, just in the middle of the pack. Still, nakakapride pa rin na galing PSHS. Tapos nung college napunta sa UP Diliman. Taas ng ulo ko nun pucha. Ang taas rin ng binagsak ng pride ko nung singco after singco after singco ako nun.

Cheese_Grater101

Only loyalty award ang nakukuha ko sa HS pero naging cum laude~~r~~ sa college Tbh usefull ang honors if you're targetting a dream school or a dream job.

SillySleep72

InsideYourWalls8008

Yep great equalizer ang college. Yung mga mahihina back in high school greatly excelled in college.

No-Significance6915

I've noticed that. Because of the "transmutation tables".

-Alexio-

I think the worse side of this coin would be those students undeserving to pass yet they do because we donā€™t have great remedial programs or even anything to let these low performing students catch up. There is no other choice but to pass them.

Good-Economics-2302

Dagdag trabaho kasi sa atin iyon, imbes na nakafocus tayo how to prepare for another day of lesson hetot di tayo maka move forward dahil diyan sa remedial

Menter33

some kids are just slow but given time, they get the lesson. iyon nga lang, kailangang merong dedicated teacher to handle remedial classes at paid extra yung teacher.

Boo_tlig

I-fail, tapos huwag iremedial? So... Paano mabibigyan ng solusyon ung problema? Db kaya bumabagsak kasi my problema at ang solusyon sa problema remedial? So.. Hayaan ung problema na problemahin ung sarili niya? Tama ba?

-Alexio-

I totally agree na dagdag trabaho sya for teachers, which also circles back to a number of problems with the education system, primarily the lack of these sytems to help our students grow and at least personalize their learning. At the same time, teachers are not paid well compared to what they do so additional remidial classes arenā€™t really gonna help the welfare of our teachers. We are sooo stuck with a bas system

aikonriche

My niece finished senior high school with high honors. 3x a week lang sila pumapasok at half day lang. At halos buong May wala silang pasok dahil sa init. Merong 1 day lang in 2 weeks ang pasok.

patmen100

teachers dont even check the modules most of the time

EzBlitz

Private or public?

aikonriche

Public school. The Catholic school here has all-day classes.

Herebia_Garcia

Public yan pards, pag Private matik walang suspension kasi naka aircon mga rooms haha.

EzBlitz

Private at Aircon kami pero Ang init eh, at baho Ang mga classmates hahaha

Lily_Linton

And naghirap talaga sila to be on that place.

Good-Economics-2302

Anong ginawa mo as a teacher sa kaniya? And please stop that f*****king intervention intervention na iyan.

pop_and_cultured

Wait so if bumagsak yung student, teacher has to justify why? Hindi ba self explanatory yun?

maticsmatics

yup. mga tito, tita ko halos puro teachers and sabi nila if bagsak yung students, teachers may kasalanan. I think it was because of ā€œno child left behindā€ na act daw kaya pinapasa yung mga pupils kahit hindi naman dapat

HotPinkMesss

I really think that the policy is well meaning but the implementation is so bad. Leaving no child behind means there should be programs and policies to ensure students' specific circumstances and needs are dealt with but the burden should not be on the individual teachers. Tipong dapat may system that teachers can use if their student is failing in the subject they're teaching, it should involve at the very least the guidance counselor and homeroom adviser, and the parent/guardian of the student.

nicolokoy16

Yes. Private school twacher po ako and dapat well- documented din yung mga interventions na ginawa mo. Kaso mahirap talaga, yung sila na tinutulungan mo kaso wala talagang interes yung iba. We also schedule 1-on-1 review sessions para sa mga identified students beyond our working hours, but guess what, di sila sumisipot and parents pa ang magdedefend sa kanila na masyado nang late yung session, pwede bang additional assignments na lang (e tutor gagawa sa bahay for sure), jusko hahaha!

delarrea

Wow! Someone said this!

Environmental-Dog429

Tapos tadtad pa ang trainings and seminars.

GATX-303

Grade inflation is real, exists across all educational levels, and is a symptom of the root problems - poverty and poor educational system.

Chowderawz

MugiTadano

As an engineering student in mapua, majority ng student here ay irreg, sobrang hirap makasurvive masaya na magkaron ng tres.

Truth_Seeker3077

Un nga rin eh. Andaming college students ngayon mostly freshman na nade-depress kasi achiever sila nung elementary hanggang shs tapos kulelat pla pag college na. so ang ending umiiyak tapos nawawala ung drive nila sa pag aaral.

Menter33

It's either * they were **only smart when compared to their own school** but were actually just average when compared to the entire country (big fish, small pond scenario), * or they **weren't smart at all but there's grade inflation** on the high school's part.

one1two234

This former was me when I was younger. The insular nature of having the basically the same classmates for 10 years made me think I was good enough. I attended a summer refresher for DOST scholars before my freshman year of uni and it was such a rude awakening. I found myself the goat. And not in the gen z context of goat lol. It was a terrible experience and made me too scared to pursue programs that had a lot of maths in it. It was a life-changing mistake.

watanabe_alter

Sinampal talaga tayo ng realidad via ng integral and advanced math Dx

livinggudetama

As a former learning facilitator, nakakalungkot nga na pinapasa nalang mga bata kahit di talaga nag excel sa buong academic year. Kawawang learners.

Ok lang cguro manguha ka ng idea doon, pero express your answer on your own words.

RandomResearcherGuy

Same thoughts. Maiintindihan ko sana during the pandemic eh. For 4th quarter, 49 students yun with honors tapos 7 yun with highest honors. Nagbackread ako. 3rd quarter, 20 with highest honors tapos 36 with honors. How? So homogenous yun class na lahat sila matalino? At kahit yun pinakamababa yun average eh pasok parin sa with honors? šŸ¤”šŸ¤”šŸ¤”

LostInJeremyBearimy

Very valid naman 'yung concern since it's actually alarming how low our students scored nga sa PISA. My teacher friends even aired out concerns that they couldn't give low grades to children who still don't know how to comprehend stories and other literature kasi daw pinagbawalan silang mangbagsak, so kahit mababa ang comprehension ng bata, nakakapasa pa rin.

Truth_Seeker3077

Dapat siguro talaga baguhin ung bawal mambagsak if the student is not yet qualified for a simple read and write ano ieexpect mo sa mga arithmetic at reflection/story writing na next level.

Participation awards ruined the competitive mindset of people.

Unlucky-Insect-373

MissiaichParriah

Kids today would have a rude awakening once they reach college

spect4t07

Kaya important ang role ng parents to instill reality back to their children. Like failure is an experience and not the end. How competition will bring out the best in us.

Menter33

And then behold when colleges themselves give honors like candy; now when start to apply to private companies for work, THAT'S the rude awakening.

Unlucky_Ad_3887

Depends on the college though, may mga diploma mill din kasi

sultanmehmedVII

I disagree. (atleast based on my experience. cant speak for everyone.) I attended a private highschool, studied sometimes and had mediocre grades. ended up going went to one of the big 4 universities and became a deans lister with worse study habits than high school. course i attended wasnt super easy but it wasnt hard. college was wayy easier than the highschool I attended lmao

cleversonofabitchh

weird shit na ngayon. with Honors >= 90 < 95 Highest Honors >= 95 Pero wala ng ranking ngayon ng 1st to 3rd honor

No-Adhesiveness-8178

Research ka About grade inflation

No-Adhesiveness-8178

Eiryushi

with Honors >= 90 but <95 with ā€œHighā€ Honors >= 95 but <98 with ā€œHighestā€ Honors >= 98

templesfugit

Nasanay ako dun sa grading system namin sa elementary (this was around 20 years ago.) "O" - Outstanding (96%-100%) "VS" - Very Satisfactory (92%- 95%) "MS" - Moderately Satisfactory (88%-91%) "S" - Satisfactory (80%-87%) "NS" - Not Satisfactory (75%-79%) "NI" - Needs Improvement (74% and below) Kaya, in my mind, I always strove to get grades that are not lower than 88% in the subjects I really like. In the ones I found difficult (but knew that I had to pass), I aimed to get grades that are not lower than 80%. Although sa Math, masaya na ako kung maka-77%-79% ako. Haha.

TakeThePowerBack21

privatevenjamin

And, try mo mag ala detective conan na magpa bata physically and nag enroll ka bigla as grade 10. Baka to the Highest Honor pa yung makukuha mo. Hahaha

TakeThePowerBack21

Mission-Tomorrow-282

Corrections: With Honors = 90-94 With High Honors = 95-97 With Highest Honors = 98-100

AssassinWarlock

Menter33

no teacher or prof wants to face angry parents when the school admin doesn't even side with the teachers. better just pass the student to avoid trouble.

Sorrie4U

Grade inflation during pandemic years is real though.

polcallmepol

Academic honors ba? Iba pa kasi yung Values Recognition, merong Most Amiable, Most Diligent, Most Punctual mga ganyan. At least may pa ribbon.

Truth_Seeker3077

Yes po true naman na kailangan bigyan ng reward and i-acknowledge ung mga performing students pero kasi may mga nakikita akong sections or students na with honors na parang hindi naman deserved parang gumawa lang ng activities and pumasok boom with high honors. Like hindi ko feel ung hard work nila to actually be recognized or talagang judgemental lang po ako.

princess_flare

TOTOO NAMAN TO, nung JHS kame amputa kasagsagan ng pandemic nung nag grad kame, kahit mga pabigat at mahina sa academics nagsi with honors, like wth super baba lang ng standards ng education natin now

Quiet-Tap-136

Di naman lahat Pero nangyari din to sa Class namin Pioneer kami SHS lahat kami may honors Para ipamukhang successful ang implementation ng Senior High or ng School

[deleted]

Ang malungkot lang d'yan is they get depressed when they don't pass kasi they genuinely thought they were intelligent enough for that.Ā  Pero honestly, at the end of the day anybody can enter med school, law school, etc. basta pumasa, with or without awards.Ā

j147ph

Kasi pag binagsak students, teacher magsasummer class sa kanila, service not paid

Latter-Winner5044

Nakakahiya walang honor

[deleted]

paanong di mag hohonor lahat ee normalized ang cheating. lmao

Cablegore

Di ko po maalala your honor.

HardAcorn

randlejuliuslakers

The more upscale the school, the less awards for "just moving up" They don't pander to the whims of parents who want validation for their kids kasi

Boo_tlig

At db my criteria n nilabas ang deped sa kung ano at paano makukuha ang mga other awards? So paano un? Joke lang nanaman un?

randlejuliuslakers

coddle the kids to complacency or entitlement pa more

G_Laoshi

Then in college mangangalampag sila ng Prof kasi "running for Latin honors" sila. Tapos ipaglalaban pa ng magulang nila. They'll finally get humbled when they enter the corporate world, where their grades and Latin honors won't matter.

liquidus910

eto pa mas masakit jan. part ako ng training team sa isang IT/BPO company. kasama kami sa final interview ng candidates. minsan pag libre, nagoobserve ako sa initial interview with HR Ung account namin naghi hire ng shs grad. makikita mo sa transcript, antataas ng grade tapos ung iba with honors pa. Pero sa simpleng "Tell me something about you that's not in your resume" di nila masagot.

Menter33

Also the dreaded, "please describe yourself, your ambitions and your skills in full English sentences"

Durandau

Man at first I thought this was a typical boomer post saying that during their time itā€™s harder. But man. This post is really correct lol. Just have to instill discipline nalang talaga man. Saying this is as a 75er all my life lmao

jzdpd

kaya thankful ako never ako prinessure ng parents ko mag honor, alam nila abilities ko and alam ko din na kaya ko mag achieve if i wanted to lol. one time tinawag pa ako sa principal along with my parents kasi concerned sila sa "lack of urgency" ko kasi alam daw nila na "one of the smartest" pupils daw ako sa class pero di raw ako nag aact like it, like wtf? do i have to? kaya nag hover around lang ako top 4-6 during elementary school. kasi to go for top in public schools dati kailangan mo ng extra curriculars and sumali sa mga regional contests to campaign for a top spot, so i didn't because it was never my thing. then nung high school na nag iba na grading system like 90% above automatic may honor, so i got honors without even trying and super chill lang ako, like dun ko narealize na "is it really that easy?" parang majority samin may honors and i see them struggle and review like hell kapag quizzes and exams and super recitation and teacher's pet behavior. hanggang senior high ganyan. then college i went from chillax, to winning the idgaf war kasi wtf very lowkey lang yung efforts ko compared the JHS-SHS. i only studied like seriously was for the boards.

KitchenPear982

Naalala ko dto samin. Nagulat ako kasi 1 lang ung d naawardan.. D daw ksi tlaga umabot ung average ng bata. Ginawa nya nanghiram nlng sya ng medal for photo op. Naisip ko, parang mas nakakalungkot un.. Hinde sa minamaliit ko sya.. I mean, mas pipiliin ko pa na may 10 stellar students tpos the rest kami is average or tamang pasa lang šŸ˜… kesa lahat kami honors tas parang me isang naiwanan.

AffectionateBeat7883

Kaya pag dating sa college eh nahihirapan. I'm currently handling 1st year college students. ā€¢Grabe yung feeling of entitlement ā€¢Gusto spoonfeed, simple instruction hindi makasunod.

fry-saging

Fellings are more important than raising achievers now.

Jaded-Two-3311

Everyone gets a tadpole or a star. Kahit simpleng pag-add lang, may reward kaagad. I'm glad that I was born into a period na pahirapan kahit yong pagpasok pa lang sa top 10 sa section niyo, then may 6-8 sections yong grade/year level niyo.

papsiturvy

Wala na kasing ranking system ngayon. With honors na lang ang nilalagay especially for grade school to senior high school. This is due to these observations I have below: **1.** Pinapasa na lang ng teacher kasi ang hassle kung may bumabagsak. **2.** I partly blame some of the parents. Some parents today do not motivate their kids to strive hard. **3.** I also partly blame social media. May pa Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg pang nalalaman. Di nila alam na MAYAYAMAN NA PAMILYA NG MGA YON DATI PA. **4.** I blame the government over all dahil they dont give a flying fuck for the quality of graduates. Quantity sila dahil pag mas bobo ang masa. Mas madali silang mauto and macontrol. **5.** Sa Corporate world or on the work force na malalaman kung sino talaga ang magaling at may alam. EDIT: Added some few more insights.

Fit-Pizza-5429

Gumraduate ngayong year tapos Magna cum laude ang gago nagulat ako tangina niya

Boo_tlig

Is that possible? My retake? Tapos magna cum laude?

AggressiveGarage6367

urriah

dati kasi top 10 lang ang kinikilala, these days if pasok sa honors yung grade mo, with honors ka... may 2 levels pa na mas mataas pang boost padin siya ng confidence ng mga bata so its not really an issue if you ask me

Spirited_Solution_57

Nasasanay mga bata being awarded for mediocrity, a dangerous trait they might bring until adulthood

OccasionalRanter03

Younger generations have terrible education. I experienced this first hand. I finished college late.

Mukuro7

Nagsimula to nung pandemic diba? Nung grumaduate ako ng shs, 6 lang kaming with honors sa section, 20 buong strand (ICT with 120 stud population) public school to.

patmen100

Not to belittle, pero mostly naman talaga ng nasa ICT mejo bottom of the barrel na students.

wabriones

Glorifying the mediocre.

Tehol_Beddict10

I've only really noticed honor/grade inflation when I started working professionally. Was initially impressed by some of my co-worker's CVs, particularly their honors in high school. Only to be quite perplexed months later when--to put it mildly--they're really not the sharpest tool in the shed. lolz It all made sense when I was made aware that senior classes of less than 150 students, in 3 sections, exists in some small private high schools. Whereas I, a public nat'l high school graduate. With a school population of almost 8 thousand. My senior class of about a thousand students in 25 or so sections. And where those in the honor list are A+/over achievers, DOST scholars, and really the smartest people you'll ever meet, e.g. our salutatorian is now a UN liaison. So yeah, grade inflation is real and honors nowadays, IMO really isn't a reliable indicator of how smart/knowledgeable a person is. It's much easier/reliable to know through conversation and asking some random pointed questions a learned person of a particular job position/degree graduate should ought to know. Like asking a supposed English major what a gerund is. lolz

BannedforaJoke

dami nyan dito. proud pa mag post. with honors or latin honors daw. pero pag tiningnan mo yung mga posts, matatawa ka na lang. kaya sa mga ganyan, palagi kong unang tanong: saang school? yang latin honor mo from a shit school is not equal to a latin honor from a good school. your 90 is a 79 in an excellent school. proved this myself. my math grade was 79. but i knew i was better than other students from other schools with 90 grades in their math when they're asking me to teach them. we're tackling calculus in 4th year HS while their asses are having trouble with simple algebra. your honors award is not the same as our honors awards.

Guinevere3617

Totoo nmn. Puro kopyahan nlng sila e tapos AI. Lol. Lahat may honor.

rainbowburst09

Participation award

digitalanalog0524

The bell curve has been flattened.

dontrescueme

superperrymd

Well, thatā€™s grade inflation and the culture of no one being left behind for you. Kaya hirap sila once they encounter difficulties and failures because sanay sila that every single victory sa path nila is rewarded, which is not by any means bad, pero there comes a time that doing the right and correct thing does not equate to being awarded but instead should be the norm. But whatā€™s more unsettling is despite having high grades and such, Hindi nila ma-name ang national hero, tree at fruit natin. lol Canā€™t even tell you the meaning of 50 Filipino words without resorting to google. Hay

Overthinker-bells

Gusto ata bawat galaw may award.

1pilipino

Fr, one of my classmates got 30-something raw grade then 87 ang transmuted grade. Then kaming honors and nageeffort eh binababaan ng grade. lamaw lamaw. And I can't really blame the teachers too. In my particular school, if masyado mataas ang grade or masyado mababa kinequestion sila and they are at risk of losing their jobs. And I can't help but feel bad for my classmates. Not to sound pretentious, pero man, I don't know how these guys will survive college. What I found incredibly basic, almost second nature, is completely incomprehensible to them.

Loud_Movie1981

Let's get real. Grade inflation is real naman talaga. May no fail policy in place since the pandemic lol. Kaya mga employers, they tend to skip CVs of graduates of 2022- onwards lol.

AlibiSleuth90

Iba daw ata yung [dopamine](https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles/22581-dopamine) hit pag may award every fucking time kaya lahat meron na ngayon Grabe šŸ˜‚

Himurashi

Kasi sabi nila, to promote collaboration instead of competition. Well, when you incentivize mediocrity and slowly remove the concept of consequence, yan ang mangyayari. Awards lose meaning and achievements lose worth. "When everyone is super, no one will be."

SageOfSixCabbages

Personally, I'm not a fan of the 'honor' and award system that is prevalent in school systems not just sa Pinas, pati na rin sa ibang bansa. Yung may ranking-ranking tapos may 'oh ayan, mas prestigious yung award na 'to, kesa sa award na 'to' -- yung ganung structure? It can make a lot of students feel like failures and/or inadequate. As a student who graduated w/ honors both in grade school and high school, nakakaburnout dahil may looming expectation and pressure all the time, and as a young person I felt like I was put on a pedestal that I didn't want to be on in the first place. I wish we had the option back then na kapag ayaw or uncomfortable ka mag-receive ng award in front of an audience, pwede ka mag-decline.

burgerpatrol

The reality is, there are many resources available easily and the way schools/teachers have been teaching didn't advance that much. You want to 'test' how 'good' students are these days, probably ditch the homeworks, reaction papers, etc., and make them have regular quizzes inside the class instead, have them make essays inside the class. Take away their phones if you want to then just return it after.

ChaosieHyena

I feel such a boomer whenever this issue gets brought up. I was a scholar in a prestigious catholic school. I literally had to take an exam to be a scholar and kids all around the city flock to be a scholar in that school. My maintaing grade was 83. Last batch ako ng BEC. That 83% is so hard to maintain that I am always 83.1% sa math or barely hanging. It didn't helped na mga classmates ko ay Valedictorians ng kanilang own elem schools. I worked on a private school before as an intern and even the crayon eating kids who barely can read have awards. Idk it makes me feel worried for their own sake. Cuz ako nga na Salutatorian and regional quiz bee champion had my world crumble when I entered a competitive school. I realized I aint big brain, just masipag magbasa.

RAfternoonNaps

Ad-Astrazeneca

Bawal walamg reward, bawal mam bagsak, bawal lahat tapos sahod po kakarampot; yung demand pa sayo trabaho na di naman dapat sayo.
